• Building Boost with LSB C++ Compiler

  I want to build my program with LSB C++ Compiler from the Linux Standard Base http://www.linuxfoundation.org/collaborate/workgroups/lsb. Program depends on the Boost library, built with gcc 4.4 version. Compilation fails. Is it possible to build the Boost library with LSB C++ Compiler? Alternatively, is it possible to build the Boost library with some old gcc version, what version is recommended? My final goal is to get my executable and third-party Boost libraries running on most Linux distributions. Generally, what can be done to get better binary compatibility for Linux distributions, developing C++ closed-source application depending on the Boost library?

• Solaris SPARC 10 32bit mode

  I'm looking for a definitive answer, does Solaris 10 running on a SPARC machine support booting into 32bit mode? I've found one site that states Solaris 8 was the last version that supported booting in a 32bit mode for SPARC. I've read multiple items that explain how to boot Solaris into 32bit mode, however they did not list the Solaris version. We've tried all the ways specified, but the system keeps booting into 64bit mode.

• Some problems I have on my iphone 5s

  I have some problems with my iphone 5s that would like to state here hope to get the sultions for them: 1- My iOS version was 7.0.2 and I installed some good apps on it, then I updated my iOS to version 7.0.3. After that when I tap some of my apps, first page of them appear and immediately vanish and don't go to the app. Does anybody know how to solve it? 2- At what percentage I should recharge the buttery? So, if I have 40 Open Tabs, and I want to keep only 3 open, this addon should be able to close the other 37.   I've been reading recently about DI and IoC in C++. I am a little confused (even after reading related questions here on SO) and was hoping for some clarification. It seems to me that being familiar with the STL and Boost leads to use of dependency injection quite a bit. For example, let's say I made a function that found the mean of a range of numbers: template <typename Iter> double mean(Iter first, Iter last) { double sum = 0; size_t number = 0; while (first != last) { sum += *(first++); ++number; } return sum/number; }; Is this dependency injection? Inversion of control? Neither? Let's look at another example.   I have two tables: Standards and Service Offerings. A Standard can have multiple Service Offerings. Each Standard can have a different number of Service Offerings associated to it. What I need to be able to do is write a view that will return some common data and then list the service offerings on one line. For example: Standard Id | Description | SO #1 | SO #2 | SO #3 | ... | SO #21 | SO Count 1 | One | A | B | C | ... | G | 21 2 | Two | A | | | ... | | 1 3 | Three | B | D | E | ... | | 3 I have no idea how to write this. The number of SO columns is set to a specific number (21 in this case), so we cannot exceed past that. Any ideas on how to approach this? A place I started is below.   Hi all, I've been reading about Random Forests (1,2) because I think it'd be really cool to be able to classify a set of 1,000 sentences into pre-defined categories. I'm wondering if someone can explain to me the algorithm better, I think the papers are a bit dense. Here's the gist from 1: Overview We assume that the user knows about the construction of single classification trees. Random Forests grows many classification trees. To classify a new object from an input vector, put the input vector down each of the trees in the forest. Each tree gives a classification, and we say the tree "votes" for that class. The forest chooses the classification having the most votes (over all the trees in the forest). Each tree is grown as follows: If the number of cases in the training set is N, sample N cases at random - but with replacement, from the original data. This sample will be the training set for growing the tree. If there are M input variables, a number m « M is specified such that at each node, m variables are selected at random out of the M and the best split on these m is used to split the node. The value of m is held constant during the forest growing. Each tree is grown to the largest extent possible. There is no pruning. So, does this look right? I'd have N = 1,000 training cases (sentences), M = 100 variables (let's say, there are only 100 unique words across all sentences), so the input vector is a bit vector of length 100 corresponding to each word. I randomly sample N = 1000 cases at random (with replacement) to build trees from. I pick some small number of input variables m « M, let's say 10, to build a tree off of. Do I build tree nodes randomly, using all m input variables? How many classification trees do I build? Thanks for the help!

• How to add .Net3.5 dll into .Net2.0 project?

  I have a dll which is based on .net 3.5 -- it uses internally for example Linq, but the exposed API is straightforward, no fancy stuff. Since C# generics are resolved at compile time I assume that for calling party all it counts is API (all public parts). However when I try to use this dll from net2.0 project I get info, that the dll cannot be referenced because the dll or one of its dependencies requires a later version of .net framework. I can install any .net version I want on target computer (when entire app is installed), but I cannot change .net version for the project itself. So: how to solve this? When adding a C dll to this project I had no such problems, so are C# dlls self-contained or not?

• How to systematically generate images from data?

  I work for a performing arts nonprofit. We have seating charts for each of the theaters we work with; each seating chart shows the number of sections, the shape of each section, and the number of rows in each section. We'd like to create dynamic seating charts based on this info. We'd like them to look/feel kinda like this: http://www.fansnap.com/tickets/177754-on. But the tricky part is we'd like to be able to store all the info about each theater (the section names, shape/size of each section, and number of rows in each section) as data and then build a system that reads this data and uses it to create a dynamic map. I'm a life-long web developer, but I don't have have any experience with a difficult graphics problem like this. I realize it's a complex problem and I don't expect anyone to give me a complete answer here, but I would love direction on where I should be looking for more info. Is what I'm describing possible? Does this sort of technique have a name? Where can I learn more about how to accomplish this? What software should I use? Any info would be helpful.

• Revert Skype contact list to be like it was before the latest update

  My Skype client has been updated to the latest version (on Windows 7). In the new version it's grouped all my Facebook contacts in along with my normal Skype contacts. I've tried to get used to it but it's being an absolute pain when you start a conversation with a contact, only to find your speaking to them through their Facebook account and not their Skype. Is there any way I can revert my Skype client to split the Skype contacts from the Facebook contacts like it was before this update?

• Maven. What to do with "homeless" jars?

  I have some proprietary.jar that I need to include in my project, but I don't wish to install it to the local repository. What I did initially was to put the jar into version control in my project's lib/ folder, and then specify the Maven dependency as: <!-- LOCAL DEPENDENCY --> <dependency> <groupId>topsecret</groupId> <artifactId>proprietary</artifactId> <version>0.0.1</version> <scope>system</scope> <systemPath>${basedir}/lib/java/proprietary.jar</systemPath> </dependency> However, this becomes a big problem when my project becomes someone else's dependency. Maven will not be able to validate this POM because the path is not absolute. What is the best way to overcome this problem?

  I'm not too good with SQL and I know there's probably a much more efficient way to accomplish what I'm doing here, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your input! I'm writing a short program for the local school high school. At this school, juniors and seniors who have driver's licenses and cars can opt to drive to school rather than ride the bus. Each driver is assigned exactly one space, and their DLN is used as the primary key of the driver's table. Makes, models, and colors of cars are stored in a separate cars table, related to the drivers table by the License plate number field. My idea is to have a single search box on the main GUI of the program where the school secretary can type in who/what she's looking for and pull up a list of results. Thing is, she could be typing a license plate number, a car color, make, and model, someone driver's name, some student driver's DLN, or a space number. As the programmer, I don't know what exactly she's looking for, so a couple of options come to mind for me to build to be certain I check everywhere for a match: 1) preform a couple of SELECT * FROM [tablename] SQL statements, one per table and cram the results into arrays in my program, then search across the arrays one element at a time with regex, looking for a matched pattern similar to the search term, and if I find one, add the entire record that had a match in it to a results array to display on screen at the end of the search. 2) take whatever she's looking for into the program as a scaler and prepare multiple select statements around it, such as SELECT * FROM DRIVERS WHERE DLN = $Search_Variable SELECT * FROM DRIVERS WHERE First_Name = $Search_Variable SELECT * FROM CARS WHERE LICENSE = $Search_Variable and so on for each attribute of each table, sticking the results into a results array to show on screen when the search is done. Is there a cleaner way to go about this lookup without having to make her specify exactly what she's looking for? Possibly some kind of SQL statement I've never seen before?

• Is there "good" PRNG generating values without hidden state?

  I need some good pseudo random number generator that can be computed like a pure function from its previous output without any state hiding. Under "good" I mean: I must be able to parametrize generator in such way that running it for 2^n iterations with any parameters should cover all or almost all values between 0 and 2^n - 1, where n is the number of bits in output value. Combined generator output of n + p bits must cover all or almost all values between 0 and 2^(n + p) - 1 if I run it for 2^n iterations for every possible combination of its parameters, where p is the number of bits in parameters. For example, LCG can be computed like a pure function and it can meet first condition, but it can not meet second one. Say, we have 32-bit generator, m = 2^32 and it is constant, our p = 64 (two 32-bit parameters a and c), n + p = 96, so we must peek data by three ints from output to meet second condition. Unfortunately, condition can not be meet because of strictly alternating sequence of odd and even ints in output. To overcome this, hidden state must be introduced, but that makes function not pure and breaks first condition (period become much longer). Am I wanting too much?

The number of required custom fields is known, but what kind of attribute is mapped to the column is available to the user E.g. I am putting down a hypothetical scenario below Say you have a laptop which stores 50 attribute values for every laptop record. Each laptop attributes are created by the some admin who creates the laptop. A user created a laptop product lets say lap1 with attributes String, String, numeric, numeric, String Second user created laptop lap2 with attributes String,numeric,String,String,numeric Currently there data in our design gets persisted as following Laptop Table Id Name field1 field2 field3 field4 field5 1 lap1 lappy lappy 12 13 lappy 2 lap2 lappy2 13 lappy2 lapp2 12 This example kind of simulates our requirement and our design Now here if somebody is lookinup records for lap2 table doing a comparison on field2, We need to apply TO_NUMBER. select * from laptop where name='lap2' and TO_NUMBER(field2) < 15 TO_NUMBER fails in some cases when query plan decides to first apply to_number instead of the other filter. QUESTION Is this a valid design? What are the other alternative ways to solve this problem One of our team mates suggested creating tables on the fly for such cases. • Generic validate input data via regex. Input error when match.count == 0

  Hi, I have a number of types of data fields on an input form, for example, a web page. Some fields are like, must be an email address, must be a number, must be a number between, must have certain characters. Basically, the list is undefinable. I wish to come up with a generic way of validating the data inputed. I thought I would use regex to validate the data. The fields which need validation would be related to a "regex expression" and a "regex error message" stating what the field should contain. My current mock up has that when the match count is zero, that would signify an error and to display the message. While still a white belt regex designer I have come to understand that in certain situations that it is difficult to write a regex which results in a match count of zero for every case. A complex regex case I looked for help on was Link Here. The forum post was a disaster because I confused people helping me. But one of the statements said that it was difficult to make a regex with a match count of zero meaning the input data was invalid; that the regex was very difficult to write that for. Does anyone have comments or suggestions on this generic validation system I am trying to create? thanks

  I am working with a LINQ to SQL query and have run into an issue where I have 4 optional fields to filter the data result on. By optional, I mean has the choice to enter a value or not. Specifically, a few text boxes that could have a value or have an empty string and a few drop down lists that could have had a value selected or maybe not... Product Status - If the user selected this from a drop down, need to apply selected value here. The query I already have is working great, but to complete the function, need to be able to add these 4 other items in the where clause, just don't know how!

  Is it possible to have whole or part of PATH environment variable specific to the type of running process's image (32bit/64bit)? When I run some app from within 64bit cmd.exe I would like to have it pick the 64bit version of OpenSSL library whereas when I run some app from within 32bit cmd.exe I would like to have it pick the 32bit version of OpenSSL library. FOLLOW UP where.exe does not find OpenSSL libs when %ProgramFiles% variable is used in the PATH environment variable

• Have visual studio copy x64 DLL or x86 DLL when building a C# project

  We're building a C# app that uses an external DLL for Sqlite.NET. This is a .NET dll but it embeds a C dll inside it and so it comes in x86 and x64 flavours. We add a reference to the x86 version in the project so when we build and run on x86 it's fine. Visual studio copies the dll to the bin folder and runs. On x64 it still copies the x86 version of course and then when it runs it fails to load it. We get round this by temporarily setting our project to be x86 only, but ideally we'd like to tell visual studio to copy the correct version depending on which flavour of machine it is. Any ideas how?

• Having 'mvn deploy' in Hudson's build goals and the standard approach of releasing

  I set up Hudson for my project with the build goals mvn clean deploy site:site, run a build every midnight and whenever there are new changes. One thing I have been wondering is whether I should include deploy in the build goals because it could happen that if I had just released version 1.0.0 of my project (I've changed the pom to be version 1.0.0 and committed it) but not yet increased the version number to 1.0.1-SNAPSHOT for several days, I could end up with multiple different 1.0.0 builds being deployed at different times. But I've seen people are using deploy in their Hudson's build goals - I wonder how they deal with this issue. What's the correct way of doing a release with Maven actually? Thanks for any pointers!
