  linux lubuntu HD4000 intel ivy-bridge 8gb 1600 ram. I am getting a duplicate entry error message from synaptic package manager and it says the problem is there. I am wondering a few things: What this directory is. Whether it safe to simply delete the offending duplicates from there. Whether this is a useful new discovery... Is this where all the packages I have no use for end up and something I can edit to suit my fancy in the long run? It would be nice to be able to reduce the clutter in my package manager. Especially find a way to get rid of all the 32 bit stuff or older versions of programs I have downloaded manually elsewhere. I had meant to post this in linux! So if this is wrong place let me know and I will move it there!

  Hello all! I have a pretty weird problem. We have setup an SVN-Mirror via cronjob (because it needs to go from inside to outside of a firewall, so no post-commit-hook possible) and svnsync. We installed a pre-revprop-hook just as told. Everything seems to work fine, except that it doesn't. E.g. when manually executing the script. # svnsync --non-interactive sync file://<path-to-mirror> --source-username <usr> --source-password <pwd> Committed revision 19817. Copied properties for revision 19817. No error, no complaints. But if checking for the revision properties it says: # svnlook info <path-to-mirror> 0 # svn info -r HEAD file://<path-to-mirror> 2>&1 Path: <root-of-mirror> URL: file://<path-to-mirror> Repository Root: file://<path-to-mirror> Repository UUID: <uid> Revision: 19817 Node Kind: directory Last Changed Rev: 19817 So somehow the author and timestamp information gets lost. But we need that information for our internal processes. Since no error or warning is produced I have absolutely no idea even where to start to look. Everything is local (except for the remote master), so there are no server-logs to look at. I also tried to manually recopy via svnsync copy-revprops (http://chestofbooks.com/computers/revision-control/subversion-svn/svnsync-Copy-revprops-Ref-svnsync-C-Copy-revprops.html). It says Copied properties for revision 19885. But when I query them, it's just the same. Any ideas how I could approach that problem, or even better -- how to solve it? Any ideas appreciated.

• How to avoid lftp Certificate verification error?

  I'm trying to get my Pelican blog working. It uses lftp to transfer the actual blog to ones server, but I always get an error: mirror: Fatal error: Certificate verification: subjectAltName does not match ‘blogname.com’ I think lftp is checking the SSL and the quick setup of Pelican just forgot to include that I don't have SSL on my FTP. This is the code in Pelican's Makefile: ftp_upload: $(OUTPUTDIR)/index.html lftp ftp://$(FTP_USER)@$(FTP_HOST) -e "mirror -R $(OUTPUTDIR) $(FTP_TARGET_DIR) ; quit" which renders in terminal as: lftp ftp://[email protected] -e "mirror -R /Volumes/HD/Users/me/Test/output /myblog_directory ; quit" What I managed so far is, denying the SSL check by changing the Makefile to: lftp ftp://$(FTP_USER)@$(FTP_HOST) -e "set ftp:ssl-allow no" "mirror -R $(OUTPUTDIR) $(FTP_TARGET_DIR) ; quit" Due to my incorrect implementation I get logged in correctly (lftp [email protected]:~>) but the one line feature doesn't work anymore and I have to enter the mirror command by hand: mirror -R /Volumes/HD/Users/me/Test/output/ /myblog_directory This works without an error and timeout. The question is how to do this with a one liner. In addition I tried: set ssl:verify-certificate/ftp.myblog.com no This trick to disable certificate verification in lftp: $ cat ~/.lftp/rc set ssl:verify-certificate no However, it seems there is no "rc" folder in my lftp directory - so this prompt has no chance to work.

• ZFS - Impact of L2ARC cache device failure (Nexenta)

  I have an HP ProLiant DL380 G7 server running as a NexentaStor storage unit. The server has 36GB RAM, 2 LSI 9211-8i SAS controllers (no SAS expanders), 2 SAS system drives, 12 SAS data drives, a hot-spare disk, an Intel X25-M L2ARC cache and a DDRdrive PCI ZIL accelerator. This system serves NFS to multiple VMWare hosts. I also have about 90-100GB of deduplicated data on the array. I've had two incidents where performance tanked suddenly, leaving the VM guests and Nexenta SSH/Web consoles inaccessible and requiring a full reboot of the array to restore functionality. In both cases, it was the Intel X-25M L2ARC SSD that failed or was "offlined". NexentaStor failed to alert me on the cache failure, however the general ZFS FMA alert was visible on the (unresponsive) console screen.   I am trying to install git on an OpenVZ container using the CentOs 6.3 precreated template. • autocomplete not working on one sever, works on others

  I have Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and x86 running on various servers and auto complete works on all of them bar one. The issue: apt-<tab> would show a list of options but sudo apt-<tab> would not. After fiddling with it for a few hours i've found that /etc/bash_autocomplete did not exist. on the broken server. Copying the one from a working one it now works. but still not properly. sudo apt-get ins<tab> does not show do anything. listing the files in /etc/bash_autocomplete.d/ on the working server has about 50 files, and the broken one only two or three. i dont think that i can just copy these files though as it might show commands for things that are not even installed. TL;DR autocomplete broken, how can i fix it. Seems like its disabled somewhere, why is this EDIT: Ok, it was not ever installed... $ sudo apt-get install bash-completion Reading package lists... Submitting my changes to CodePlex via the TeamServer interface is driving me crazy, and I'd really like a simple way of syncing my svn repos with CodePlex via there new SVN interface. svnsync or synmerge seem to be the way to go, but neither's instructions seem clear to a guy who's only ever used TortoiseSVN. And they seem to also seem need local access to the destination server (which clearly for CodePlex, is impossible) So, could someone give simple instructions how to do this?

• How to get local ActiveMQ broker to "mirror" a queue on a remote ActiveMQ broker?

  I have a local ActiveMQ broker which is on an unreliable internet connection, and also a remote ActiveMQ broker in a reliable datacenter. I have already sorted out a "store and forward" setup so that outgoing messages are sent to the remote broker when the Internet connection is available. That alone works great, but when messages are outbound. However, now I have to do the reverse. Here is the scenario: A new message appears in the remote ActiveMQ broker. The message is put into a specific queue. In a few minutes, the Internet connection becomes available to the local ActiveMQ broker. The local broker should then be able to pull the message from the remote broker, and place it in its own local queue. Local consumers will then be able to see the message. So in essence, I need the local broker to become a subscribed consumer to the remote queue. I have looked through the ActiveMQ documentations but I can't find anything yet about how to do this in the .xml configuration file. Is this what I should be looking for?   suppose I want to test a server's and its web application's ability to handle many simultaneous connections well and show decent latency. So ideally I would want a thousand machines to bombard it with usage requests, but that's not practicable. So instead, can I just make a testing script with a thousand threads to run on the same server and have them perform the testing, connecting to the server via a geographically far-away proxy? My reasoning here is that the signal will have to travel realistically big distances to the proxy and back, so that sort of emulates the reality of real clients accessing the server. Then again, to take this one step further, are there prepackaged emulators/frameworks that could perform a similar test without using internet at all, just simulating the latency of the network, realistically creating all the socket connections and other resource intensive stuff etc?

Then I went ahead intalling java by running the following commands from the terminal window (with some tips from various forums) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libreoffice libreoffice-java-common libreoffice-math libreoffice-gnome libreoffice-java-common Still I got the BASIC runtime error (as in the title), even after clicking Tools---- Options ---- Java and checking the 'Use a Java runtime environment option' and then clicking on 'Sun Microsystems Inc' under listed JRE environments installed. Even I ran the following commands to install latest Java run time environments from terminal window sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre icedtea-7-plugin But still I get the same Basicruntime error (details as in the title bar). This particular file opens perfectly in Microsoft Excel 2007, in Win XP Professional.

  I use a VPS with Ubuntu Server 10.10 x64. I want to use Java and run the command sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre but it fails because the installation encounted errors while processing ca-certificates-java. • Can't extract .tar.xz archive on 13.10 because permission denied

  I used to work with Ubuntu 13.04 and also i have installed Vlc 2.1.0 with a .tar.xz archive on that , but after release of 13.10 , i erased 13.04 and installed 13.10 . so i tried to install vlc 2.1.0 with the normal PPA (sudo add-apt-repository ppa:videolan/stable-daily sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install vlc browser-plugin-vlc ) way but it installed vlc 2.0.9 for me , so i 'm remove that and tried to install with the way i have installed it before on 13.04 (wget -c download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/2.1.0/vlc-2.1.0.tar.xz tar -xJvf download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/2.1.0/vlc-2.1.0.tar.xz cd vlc-2.1.0 sudo apt-get build-dep vlc ./configure make sudo make install) , but suddenly an error disturbed me in extracting the .tar.xz file : "Error setting owner : Operation not permitted" , but i the owner of file is me and i changed the all owner settings in file properties to read and write but it don't works ,so what can i do ? and also if it don't work , suggest me a good way to install Vlc 2.1.0 ! When I press Ctrl + C; its showing ^C on terminal but its not working.. The most important error: I am unable to see a "chip" icon on the status bar so as to install proprietary drivers for my ATI drivers... The interesting part is, powertop worked will on live cd and it even detected my ATI card. Update When I opened "Software Up to Date", this showed a error: Could not initialize the package information An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
