  Hi everybody. recently I've bought a VGA card, "ATI Radeon HD4650", and after that I installed it on my PC, i cant run any .exe files just from my CD-Rom ! even when i attempt to install the driver of VGA Card, I couldn't do that, So I downloaded it and installed it with no problems. after that when I try to install some games from DVD (more than 5 different games I have tried) it prompt me with: "setup.exe is not a valid win32 application" therefore I cant install the game, in addition I need to say that there's nothing wrong with DVD's and my DVD-Rom. I would really appreciate if you just can help me through this one !

• Triple Monitor Stand Recommendations

  I've got two Acer X233Hbid 23" Widescreen LCD Monitors from new egg back last summer, each weigh 10.5lbs a piece I Want to Buy a third Acer 23" (closest I've found is the X235 on Newegg, weighs in at 11.5 lbs) , one of the new ATI video cards that will output to 3 displays, and then a monitor stand that will let me use them in portrait mode like the image below. I found the following: $260 - ERGOTRON 33-323-200 DS100 Triple-Monitor Desk Stand and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this kind of setup and whether it would work for me or not.. • Triple ghost animated cursor

  Since installing the driver for Intuos 4 Graphics tablet, animated cursors display as a triple ghost cursor. I cannot find any reference to this problem elsewhere. System specifications: new Dell XPS, Windows 7, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670. Graphics tablet and graphics software are virtually useless since the cursor hotspot is nearly impossible to identify. All drivers and software are current. Any thoughts? Vendors deny any knowledge or responsibility. Removing the Intuos driver does not fix this.

• Getting jerky backgrounds on Win7 on iMac 27'' 2560x1440

  I installed Win7 on bootcamp on my new iMac 27'' (ATI videocard) and everything was good until recently I noticed that the default win7 background (then one on the background on login) looked jerky. When I say jerky I mean the kind of jerky you get if you can't display enough colours, and instead of nice fading shades you just get stripes and jerky patterns. I am on native resolution but even if I go down to 1920x1080 I get the same. This might have happened after a firmware update but as I don't use windows very often I am not too sure it's what caused it. Oh, and when I am playing games everything looks OK (as in not jerky!). Any help appreciated!

• Windows XP to Ubuntu 10.04 via VNC does not refresh

  I've tried tightvncserver and vnc4server on Ubuntu. I've tried tightvnc viewer and ultravnc viewer on Windows XP. I can connect from Windows to Ubuntu with any combination, but there is no screen refresh: I can drag a window on Ubuntu using my mouse in Windows or type into a terminal in Ubuntu from my keyboard in Windows, but the image does not change on Windows. I can request a screen refresh from Windows but the screen does not update. I am running the ATI driver on Ubuntu. I've tried stepping the System|Preferences|Appearance|Visual Effects down from Extra to Normal with no effect.

• HD movies stutter.

  I just put together a new system build in the hopes that all of my daily tasks would run smoothly and without any hiccups. Unfortunately I am still seeing some sound and sometimes video stuttering when playing HD movies in VLC (no problems with xvid/divx files). My setup is as follows: Intel core i5 750 quad core 2.66mhz 4GB ram asus p55 motherboard radeon hd 5570 video card 650gb 7200rpm western digital sata HDD 23" Nec ea23wmi monitor Operating System: Windows 7 What might be the main bottleneck that needs upgrading to fix my delays? Seems like the hard drive might be the problem but anything faster than 7200rpm is beyond my budget for a decent hard drive. Could it be anything else?

• Windows 7 Via Hyperion 4-1 drivers

  I have a clean install of Win 7 on some relatively old hardware. Everything works pretty well however my cpu is pegged at 100% most of the time. Task Manager shows srvchost as being a main culprit of course but also system interrupts. I have a Biostar socket 478 MB with Via chipset. I have tried to find Windows 7 drivers for this but when I download and try to install what VIA/BIOSTAR say should be good for all OS's it will not load. I get a message saying can't find components for this OS. Anybody have any idea where I might find suitable drivers for the Chipset? BTW I'm not using the integrated graphics on the board but have a radeon 4500 pci-e card.

• Computer becomes very slow (permanently) after running a bunch of apps

  Hello there, My computer with Windows XP installed becomes very slow after I ran some heavy tasks at a time. (play a full 3D online game while extracting a 4GB RAR archive) It freezes for about 200~500ms every few seconds, and this always happens if I do heavy tasks at once in my computer (for example, installing a program while playing games), and the lag remains permanently (even a reboot won't make it better) unless I repair-install the Windows. Since I have a low-end computer: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.00 GHz, 512 MB of RAM ATI RADEON 9550 AGP 256 MB And the only way I used everytime to fix this problem is by repair-installing my Windows XP. So that I won't lose any data or installed programs. But I believe there's a better and faster way to fix this without repair-installing the Windows. Any idea?

• How do you test if a PCI slot is working - motherboard diagnostic software?

  I suspect that my motherboard is bad, and that my PCI-E slot is not working. I have a Gigabyte motherboard that had a Hauppage 2250 working fine in the PCI-E slot for many months. However - recently - would not get TV channels that I used to get --- until finally Media center cant detect any channels at all. Got a new tuner card (ATI 350 card) - cant detect any channels. The cable signal is good - I have it connected directly to a TV - all channels come in clear. SO that is why I suspect a motherboard problem. Are there any motherboard diagnostic scanner utilities that can verify I need a new motherboard

  I have a problem that is driving me to the edge. My graphics card periodically looses power for a moment, then comes back. Once in a while it takes much longer, like 5 minutes. I have always tried rebooting during that period, since I don't know then. Black screen, with a no power message across my monitor. All equipment is only a few months old. The Motherboard is a few months old, MSI N9A2 Platinum Revision 1 (AMD). The Video Card is a Gigabyte Radeon HD 4850 1GB.   Core i5 2.3 Ghz processor 512mb ATI HD 4570 2GB 1333 RAM 64bit Windows 7 Home Premium. Should I "down-grade" to 32bit? Does running 64bit with only 2GB RAM make the laptop weaker than running 32bit with 2GB RAM or is the performance pretty much the same? Is there any performance benefit to running 64bit with only 2GB RAM? Is there an impact on battery life between 64bit and 32bit. Should I maybe just add another 2GB RAM? Thanks.

• Ubuntu Karmic, Maximize delay problem

  Hello, I have tried various ubuntu versions, Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 x86, Ubuntu 10.04 beta DVD, Ubuntu 9.10 AMD64, Mandriva 2010 x86, also a Fedora version and after installing compiz on all OS's, everything is working normal and smooth, even the compiz effects, cube, water, fire, wobbling windows, etc, except of the Maximize effect, where i get 2seconds+ delay for the effect. Cause it got me in a lot of thinking, why im getting this delay "problem", do you think there is any solution? or at least a way to decrease the delay? Thanks in advance. ;) P.S. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite P300d, AMD Turion 64 x2 Dual-Core TL-64 (2.20 GHz), ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650 512MB, 3GB RAM.

• Stuttery 1080p playback on decent system

  We have a media center system that was recently built. It works well for all types of content, however it has issues with 1080p content. 720p plays fine. I have tried VLC, ffdshow and finally, CoreAVC. CoreAVC plays the best however it still eventually loses sync due to stutter - this does not happen on other systems with the same file.   I am thinking of assembling this system: AMD CPU (A8-3870 APU which has Radeon HD 6550D inside: 400 stream processors:xxx GFLOPS) nearly 110$ AMD Graphics card: HD 7750 (512 stream processors:819 GFLOPS peak performance) nearly 170$ Appropriate ram (1600MHz bus) Mainboard What GFLOPS level can I reach as a stable mode with using OpenCL and similar programs? Can I use all 912 stream processors at the same time? I am not trying to do a VS question. I need to know what could be better for scientific computing (%75 of the time) and gaming (%25 of the time) because I have a low budget. With "scientific calculations" I mean fluid dynamics/solid state physics simulating; with games I mean those that need openCL and PhysX.

  I know that for an NVidia card I can sudo apt-get install nvidia-current mplayer, reboot, and then use mplayer -vo vdpau -vc ffmpeg12vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,ffh264vdpau FILE.mkv to get accelerated video playback of H.264 and other codecs, so even full HD videos can be played back with only little CPU. (And there are many other options, e.g. XBMC also supports VDPAU.) But how do I get accelerated video playback if I have a recent ATI or Intel video card on Ubuntu Lucid? How do I figure out if my video card has acceleration built in? The solution has to work with mplayer or mplayer2. It's OK for me to recompile mplayer(2), but I'd prefer installing both the kernel and the X.org X server from a binary package repository.

• Windows Experience Index Dropped After Adding Dedicated Graphics Card

  I purchased a new PC with a Gigabye Z68X-UD3H-B3. I had a Radeon HD 5450 graphics card spare, so I've added that instead of using the onboard graphics as I just presumed it would be better. But, my windows experience index has gone down. From 5.4 to 5. Dekstop Performance has dropped from 5.4 to 5, although gaming graphics has gone up from 5.9 to 6.2. I'm not actually going to be using the machine for gaming, just audio production, but I added the card as I'll possibly be doing video editing in future too. Why would this be? Can I trust windows experience index scores? Or is it possible the onboard stuff is just better for general desktop stuff? Thanks! Ludo.

• Install latest kernel to Ubuntu and have grub acknowledge the new installed kernel

  I have an installed Ubuntu Distro (Karmic 9.10) already. However, due to some problems with xorg ati driver, I cannot standby my computer. Some guy have suggested me to try the latest version of xorg driver which in turn requires a newer version of Linux kernel than the newest release available from Ubuntu Central Repository (2.6.33). I have searched though several articles on how to install a custom Linux kernel. However, these articles are so 2004/2005 and they were talking about lilo (???). Since then, I'm afraid that I cannot make the Grub Boot recognize the new Linux kernel properly (I'm just a newbie to Linux). I would love to know how to install the kernel into Ubuntu and have grub acknowledge the new installed kernel.

• Bad Resolution. Running Three screens at the same time

  Hi I am currently using three screens at the same time with my ATI 5770 & an active displayport converter. The thing is that the third screen ( the one that is using the active displayport converter ) is showing terrible resolution compared to my other two screens. ( Samsung syncmaster p23 ) two of my screens got a max resolution of 1920* 1090, meanwhile the third on is only capable of 1600 * 1200. Do any of u guys got any solution to this problem? • External monitor image not centered in the screen

  I'm using Xorg 7.5 on a Radeon HD4870 with the FOSS radeonhd server on my HP 6830s. The laptop has a VGA connector and I attach it to a 37" panasonic plasma TV. It works fine except for a little annoyance: when activated, the TV screen is set to the resolution of 1360x768 (which it reports as being the highest it supports) but all the image is shifted by about 100 pixels to the right. I can't see the leftmost part of the page, and I have a black vertical bar to the right. If I change the resolution to 1024x768 there is no shifting, the image fills the entire screen with no parts hidden, but at this resolution the image is stretched. How can I tune the position on the external monitor so that the image is centered in the screen filling it entirely?

• Looking for a laptop with a removable hard drive

  At the moment, I possess a Dell Inspiron 6400. Just removing two screws, I've made the drive removable (look here) and I can pull it off in one second. The new Inspiron and Studio laptops don't support this anymore (the drive is no more on the side but on the back of the laptop). • Few questions about SLI

  Hi all, thanks in advance for your help. I've just added a second card to my system so I can add a third monitor. I'd got as far as determining both cards need to use the same driver (after a blind alley with another cheap ATi card) so I'm now the proud owner of a second BFG 9800 GTX+ card. One is a BFG OCX and the other an BFG OC (small difference in clock speeds but they are in all other respects the same) but wanted to know the following:- 1) Is it worth adding the SLI connector, will it really boost overall performance (I'm guessing that the OCX card will then perform as the OC card does)? 2) Are SLI connectors (the one's that run across the top of the cards) motherboard or manufacturer specific? 3) If I do SLI the cards will I still be able to use all four monitor connectors or just the two on the master card? I'm not a gamer, I'm an IA and web designer so the system is mostly for Photoshop and Illustrator work and the occasional knock around in command and conquer.

  Hi, We are Rendering 16 live Streams at our client machine through one of our applications and the resolution of the video streams are as 4CIF/MPEG4/25FPS/4000Kbits. The configuration fo the client machine is below. HP Desktop Machine: Microsoft Windows XP Intel (R) Core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz 2.99 GHz, 1.94 GB of RAM Intel (R) Q45/Q43 Series Express Chipset (Inbuild) The CPU usage of the machine peaks 99% for 16 straems. After some discussion, we had decided to install external graphics card to reduce the CPU usage. So that, we have tried following graphics cards. NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440 - 128 MB Radeon HD 4350 - 512 MB GDDR2 Redeon HD 4350 - 1GB DDR2 ASUS EAH 4350 Silent 1GB DDR2 But the performance wise no difference, even worst. So, what is the pupuse of these external graphics cards? Really it will reduce the CPU usage? What parameters have to check, if we want to reduce the CPU usage?
