• Can't Allow Specific Port in Windows Firewall Advanced Security - Windows 2008

  In the Outbound Rules, I set up a rule to allow outbound connection from port 26. But, it doesn't work. However, if I allow "all port" for this rule, this will work, but then all ports will be allowed too. What is the reason? Is there any conflicting rule? I need to fix this as soon as possible. -Edit to add : I'm trying to allow email access to mail server outside (port 26). The thing is, even if I telnet using port 26, it will not work, unless I allow "all ports". Specific port will not do.

• Postfix configuration w.r.t. port 25

  After a considerable amount of research, I have configured my postfix server to use dovecot to accept SMTPS connections over port 465 and everything works swimmingly. Unfortunately, I forgot that, unless I listen to port 25, I'm not going to receive any e-mail from the net. I'm hoping somebody knows off the top of their head how to open up port 25 on Postfix for anonymous users, but disallow relaying and any other bad things on that port. And to leave the port 465 the way it is. As to my current configuration, I changed the master.cf file: smtps inet n - n - - smtpd and the main.cf file: # Use our SSL certificates smtpd_tls_cert_file = .....cer smtpd_tls_key_file = .....key smtpd_tls_security_level = may # Use Dovecot for SASL authentication smtpd_sasl_auth_enable = yes smtpd_sasl_security_options = noanonymous smtpd_sasl_type = dovecot smtpd_sasl_path = private/auth broken_sasl_auth_clients = yes smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_sasl_authenticated, reject_unauth_destination Any help is appreciated!

  I want to make an SSH connection to another server with forwarding, but without having to log on to the remote server, nor interfere with the screen I am working on. I also need to access the connection to terminate it when I finish with it. eg. say I want to do a mysql backup on a remote server so I use the command ssh user@remote -L 1234:localhost:3306 but after issuing the password I want to run the mysql command in the session, but be able to access the SSH connection when I finish with mysql and terminate it. Is there some way this can be done?

• Printer demands specific USB port

  My HP laptop has 3 USB ports. When I add my printer driver by plugging into one of those ports, the driver installs fine. Problem: I have to install 3 identical drivers. One for each USB port. Depending on what USB port I have the printer plugged into, I have to pick the driver for that port. Question: How do I print to any of the three ports automatically based on what port the printer is in? Further into: In Devices and Printers Printer Properties Ports... I cannot select more than one port for a printer driver to print to.

• Why does my router log crazy amounts of blocked traffic on port 1701?

  I have a 2701HGV-B 2Wire modem and router (AT&T). The log is basically full with entries similar to the following with a time between a fifth and a third of a second between entries: src=86.156.7.170 dst=xxx.xxx.xxx.38 ipprot=17 sport=6882 dport=1701 Unknown inbound session stopped src=58.176.22.252 dst=xxx.xxx.xxx.38 ipprot=17 sport=21573 dport=1701 Unknown inbound session stopped src=91.221.6.250 dst=xxx.xxx.xxx.38 ipprot=17 sport=25902 dport=1701 Unknown inbound session stopped ... where the source IP will be different for every entry. The entries accumulate constantly, every single second that the router is on several of them appear in the log. The destination is the WAN address for my router. I understand that this is somehow related to VNCs, but I don't know enough to figure out why my router is getting bombarded with requests for a VNC session. Is there anything fishy going on or is this normal? If it is normal, how do I keep these entries from spamming my log files? Since there's about two or three of them every second, everything else gets drowned out.

My current config to connect to another servers is using different port to connect. e.g ssh -D 1080 -p 22 username@server1.com ssh -D 1081 -p 22 username@server2.com Now what I would like to have to share the same port from the same box. ssh -D 1080 -p 22 username@server1.com ssh -D 1080 -p 22 username@server2.com But when I share it, I will get below error: bind: Address already in use channel_setup_fwd_listener: cannot listen to port: 1080 Could not request local forwarding. How could I configure the same port? help. thank you. I want to share the same port because this is needed when configuring firewall in Citrix Firewall on other machine, not needed to many many ports and keep changing when changing connection. thank you.

• Reasons why ports below 1024 cannot be opened

  I'm root on a machine I don't know how it was configured. I try to open SSHD on another port than 22 but it does not work. I changed the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file and added a new Port line extra to the Port 22. but it does only work when this second port is a number above 1024. Why is that? How can I find the reason? Infos: I'm restarting it using /etc/init.d/sshd restart as root. "netstat -apn" does not show the port is open by any other service (anyway I tried different ports and only above 1024 work). "telnet localhost port" also shows the service works only when they are above 1024. In iptables all tables are empty. Thanks!

• Port forwarding stopped working in my Linksys WRT54G2 Linksys router.

  How to do it again? I had simply forwarded needed ports (e.g. for counter strike, ftp, http etc)) but now with same system, same OS and same router and settings, it's not working. Tried setting router to "factory defaults" and do everything again. However other jobs are being done like it is connecting to my DSL ISP and I can access Internet easily. Still no success. PS. I tried on both Windows and Ubuntu. On Windows I use it for Counter Strike and others (e.g. host my local FTP server) on Ubuntu.

• .com domain transfer failing

  Hi, I'm trying to transfer one of my .com addresses between registrars. I'm down as the owner contact (confirmed working) and the losing registrar is down as the tech and admin contact. Last week I received an email stating that the domain transfer had been rejected by the losing registrar. I contacted the losing registrar and they denied that. My money from the winning registrar was refunded and I was told to try again. I've initiated the transfer again and received confirmation of pending transfer, I gave the correct EPP code and confirmed the transfer. Currently the status on the domain is set as OK, should it not be transfer pending? According to my name.com transfer page if the transfer is not authd in 5 days it will auto transfer anyway. I don't believe this will happen. Name.com have been really helpful but they can't really do much more now. The losing registrar is not being helpful hence me turning here. What can I do to make sure the domain transfers? The domain transfer is set to expire on the 17th. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  I am working in Eclipse Modeling Framework (Eclipse plugin development) in my project the tool(project i am working) provides three perspectives. 1.Accelerator Analyst perspective 2.Contract Validation and 3.Underwriter rules Editor... By default it starts with Contract validation perspective (As we define it within the plugin_customization.ini). However after switching to other perspective does not change the perspective shown... As all perspective (Class, Id and Name) is define only inside Plugin.XML as it is the task of org.eclipse.ui.perspective that that perspective name should be come forefront. Out of 10 7 times it is working fine but I am not getting why this is not working in that 3 cases. • How to use shared_ptr for COM interface pointers

  I've been reading about various usage advice relating to the new c++ standard smart pointers unique_ptr, shared_ptr and weak_ptr and generally 'grok' what they are about when I'm writing my own code that declares and consumes them. However, all the discussions I've read seem restricted to this simple usage situation where the programmer is using smart in his/her own code, with no real discussion on techniques when having to work with libraries that expect raw pointers or other types of 'smart pointers' such as COM interface pointers. Specifically I'm learning my way through C++ by attempting to get a standard Win32 real-time game loop up and running that uses Direct2D & DirectWrite to render text to the display showing frames per second. My first task with Direct2D is in creating a Direct2D Factory object with the following code from the Direct2D examples on MSDN: ID2D1Factory* pD2DFactory = nullptr; HRESULT hr = D2D1CreateFactory(D2D1_FACTORY_TYPE_SINGLE_THREADED, &pD2DFactory); pD2DFactory is obviously an 'out' parameter and it's here where I become uncertain how to make use of smart pointers in this context, if indeed it's possible. My inexperienced C++ mind tells me I have two problems: With pD2DFactory being a COM interface pointer type, how would smart_ptr work with the Add() / Release() member functions for a COM object instance? Are smart pointers able to be passed to functions in situations where the function is using an 'out' pointer parameter technique? I did experiment with the alternative of using _com_ptr_t in the comip.h header file to help with pointer lifetime management and declared the pD2DFactory pointer with the following code: _com_ptr_t<_com_IIID<pD2DFactory, &__uuidof(pD2DFactory)>> pD2DFactory = nullptr; and it appears to work so far but, as you can see, the syntax is cumbersome :) So, I was wondering if any C++ gurus here could confirm whether smart pointers are able to help in cases like this and provide examples of usage, or point me to more in-depth discussions of smart pointer usage when needing to work with other code libraries that know nothing of them. Or is it simply a case of my trying to use the wrong tool for the job? :)

Error details: Unknown Error Description  MessageId:  {********} InstanceID: {********}   My code was pretty simple and the source of the error was hidden somewhere inside it.   msg_MyMessage(SMTP.CC) = var_CC; msg_MyMessage(SMTP.From) = var_From; msg_MyMessage(SMTP.Subject) = var_Subject; msg_MyMessage(SMTP.EmailBodyText) = var_Message;    // #1    msg_MyMessage(SMTP.SMTPHost) = " localhost "; msg_MyMessage(SMTP.SMTPAuthenticate) = 0; When I added line #2, this frustrating error disappeared.    msg_MyMessage(SMTP.EmailBodyTextCharset) = "UTF-8"; // #2 Conclusion: If we use the SMTP.EmailBodyText property, we must set up the SMTP.EmailBodyTextCharset property.   I'm designing a website that will basically be a social network for sharing information. I have the domain $$$$d.net and the same domain $$$$d.info where $$$$ is a word (that runs into the d) pertaining to the purpose of the site . The .com of this domain was already taken, but they've got nothing showing. They only have a not reached google error showing ie. dont seem to be trying to sell it either. I also have the long name of the site $$$$------&&&&&&&&&.com where the words $$$$ and &&&&&&&&& would contribute relevant seo to the site. In fact the word $$$$------ would also if a one letter spelling mistake is recognised at all by google, which i doubt but am unsure about. But as a brandname the $$$$------ word still works relevantly. Which do you think is a better choice to use? The short catchy name with the .info for relevance to information The .net which is more familiar than .info but slightly less relevant maybe. (But i think net as in network still works cos as i said it will be a social networking site). The long, .com domain which has more SEO plus a pun albeit on a spelling mistake. I know its kind of a subjective question and also hard to answer without knowing the name (which I've obfuscated because I'm only in initial design stage) but nevertheless im interested in what some of you guys think.

• How to solve: "Connect to host some_hostname port 22: Connection timed out"

  I have two Ubuntu machines. Both have openssh-client and openssh-server installed on them. ssh-ing from machine G (fresh Ubuntu 11.10 installation) to machine K works great. But ssh-ing from machine K to machine G results always in the Error: Connect to host some_hostname port 22: Connection timed out I went through the troubleshooting section of help.ubuntu.com and I got the following results: ps -A | grep sshd # results in 848 ? 00:00:00 sshd - sudo ss -lnp | grep sshd # results in 0 128 :::22 :::* users:(("sshd",848,4)) 0 128 *:22 *:* users:(("sshd",848,3)) - ssh -v localhost # works! - sudo ufw status verbose # yields: "Status: inactive" I haven't change anything in the config file. What can I do to locate the Problem and solve it? Glad about every hint! Edit: ping was succesful in both directions! I did a telnet <machineK> 22 from machin G which resulted in Trying and then in telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out. But telnet the other way around worked just fine! Edit 2: ssh start/running, process 966 # yields: ssh start/running, process 966 /etc/hostname # contains my hostname, let's call it blubb /etc/hosts # contains the following 127.0.0.1 localhost # 127.0.1.1 blubb 129.26.68.74 blubb # I added this! - sudo service ufw status # yields: ufw start/running I installed Gufw and set it to ON. Then I selected from Incoming the option ALLOW. Then I sshed to another machine from where I sshed back to my machine. Still the same error as above: connect to host blubb port 22: Connection timed out Any more hints, what I can check?

• tunneling x11vnc through ssh on a non standard port to ubuntu computer tightvnc

  I have been stuck with setting up my virtual desktop on my ubuntu laptop. I am running ubuntu to ubuntu with x11vnc I start the process on my laptop as follows: " ssh -L5904:localhost:5900 -p Port remoteuser@remoteip." That command works, then I start x11vnc server, "x11vnc -noncache -once -shared -rfbauth ~/.vnc/passwd." This command works and starts connection. Then I open another window on my laptop and type, export VNC_VIA_CMD='/usr/bin/ssh -2 -c aes128-cbc -x -p Port -l User -f -: %L:%H:%R %G sleep 20' (not sure if works). then I type, vncviewer -endcodings Tight -depth 8 -quality 1 -via IPofremotemachine -u remoteuser localhost:01. The first time it work but from now on it just gives me the vncviewer -help screen everytime. I type in the password for my remote machine and then shows -help screen for vncviewer. • Is it viable to make a port from a C++ application to Java through LLVM

  how viable is it to port a C++ application to Java bytecode using LLVM (I guess LLJVM)? The thing is that we currently have a process written in C++ but a new client has made mandatory to been able to run the program in a multiplatform way, using the Java Virtual Machine with obviously no native code (no JNI). The idea is to be able to take the generated jar and copy then to different systems (Linux, Win, 32 bits - 64 bits) and it should just work. Looking around looks like it is possible to compile C++ to LLVM IR code and then that code to java bytecode. There is no need of the generated code to be readable. I have test a bit with similar things using emscripten, this takes C++ code and compile it to JavaScript. The result is valid JS but totally unreadable (looks like assambler). Does anybody done a port of an application from C++ to Java bytecode using this tecnique? What problems could we face? Is a valid approach for production code? Note: I am aware that currently we have some non standard C++ and close source libraries, we are looking to removing this non standard code and all close source libraries and use Free Libre Open Source Software, so lets suppose all code is standard C++ code with all code available at compile time. Note: It is not an option to write portable C++ code and then compile it to the desired target platform, the compiled program must be mltiplatform thus the use of JVM (right now we are not looking in similar solutions but Python or other language base, but i would also like to heard about it)

• Macbook OSX applications crashing on startup

  Closed my computer last night, went home. Opened it and it had restarted. Now when I open a couple programs such as Adobe Fireworks or Appcelerator Titanium they throw up a nasty error like below. Other programs (Chrome, Firefox, Textmate, Versions) works fine. Any thoughts on this? I haven't owned my Macbook long so I'm not even aware of the right tools or places to look to track this down. Any help would be most appreciated. It's making it hard to get my work done :] If it helps at all both those programs were probably open when it restarted. From the look of it I'm not sure if it's a permissions error or something? I completely re-installed on of the applications Titanium. Didn't seem to help. • MacBook OS X applications crashing on startup

  Closed my computer last night, went home. Opened it and it had restarted. Now when I open a couple programs such as Adobe Fireworks or Appcelerator Titanium they throw up a nasty error like below. Other programs (Chrome, Firefox, Textmate, Versions) work fine. Any thoughts on this? I haven't owned my MacBook long so I'm not even aware of the right tools or places to look to track this down. Any help would be most appreciated. It's making it hard to get my work done :] If it helps at all both those programs were probably open when it restarted. From the look of it I'm not sure if it's a permissions error or something? I completely re-installed one of the applications (Appcelerator Titanium). Didn't seem to help.   I just built a new proxy server and compiled the latest versions of squid and dansguardian. We use basic authentication to select what users are allowed outside of our network. It seems squid is working just fine and accepts my username and password and lets me out. But if i connect to dans guardian, it prompts for username and password and then displays a message saying my username is not allowed to access the internet. Its pulling my username for the error message so i know it knows who i am. The part i get confused on is i thought that part was handled all by squid, and squid is working flawlessly.
