• How is executed a SendMessage from a different thread?

  When we send a message, "if the specified window was created by the calling thread, the window procedure is called immediately as a subroutine". But "if the specified window was created by a different thread, the system switches to that thread and calls the appropriate window procedure. Messages sent between threads are processed only when the receiving thread executes message retrieval code." (taken from MSDN documentation for SendMessage). Now, I don't understand how (or, more appropriately, when) the target windows procedure is called. Of course the target thread will not be preempted (the program counter is not changed). I presume that the call will happen during some wait function (like GetMessage or PeekMessage), it is true? That process is documented in detail somewhere?

  Hi everyone, I am developing Smoking counter and I need to send all the smoking record (about the time user smoking) to database on the server. The server database is MySQL database. I knew that I must have send data to PHP page/script, and this page/script will run on the data to insert record to database. I would like to know: is there another way to update database, because I don't have knowledge about PHP. I used to work on java and c/c++/objective-c.   I have a source code of a library which has a lot of strange IF, ELSE, FOR, etc. macros for all common C-keywords instead of using just usual if,else,for,while keywords. These macros are defined like this: #define IF( a) if( increment_if(), a) where increment_if() function is defined so: static __inline void increment_if( void) { // If the "IF" operator comes just after an "ELSE", its counter // must not be incremented. ... //implementation } I don't really understand, what is the purpose of such macros? This library is for a real-time application and I suppose that using such macros must slow-down an application.

  Hi, due to testing and time measuring i have to write some kind of log into existing c# winforms code in Visual Studio 2010. I want to hold the changes and the work very small so my question is about replacing text in my call by counting numbers. Lets say i want to past a line like Log.WriteLine(position) many times in the code and then replace "position" with numbers starting from 1 to n in on turn. • Changing the current count of an Auto Increment value in MySQL?

  Currently every time I add an entry to my database, the auto increment value increments by 1, as it should. However, it is only at a count of 47. So, if I add a new entry, it will be 48, and then another it will be 49 etc. I want to change what the current Auto Increment counter is at. I.e. I want to change it from 47 to say, 10000, so that the next value entered, will be 10001. How do I do that?

• C++: Keep track of times function is called.

  Keeping track of how many times a function is called is easy when passing the counter as an argument into the function. It's also easy when returning a one from the called function. But, I do not want to go that route. The reason behind this is because it seems like bad programming (letting the function know too much information). Is there a better way to keep track of how many times this function has been called? I'm just looking for concepts that I could study. Providing code examples is not neccessary, but might be helpful.

• sIFR: dynamically inserting umlaut causes trouble

  Hi, let me state cleary at the beginning that I know about the embedding issue in flash. So, to the point. If sIFR replaces an umlaut (ä,ö,ü) which is hard coded in the HTML file everythings works fine. But when I want to insert it dynamically it is not displayed. I played around with charset options to specifiy the javascript file i'm referencing but it doesnt change a thing. Here's JavaScript and sIFR code: sIFR.replacements["#image-counter span"][0].replaceText("ö"); I tried as well to replace "ö" by "&ouml;" and "&#246" but this doesnt work around it either. Any ideas?

  This is not a question about how to compare two BigDecimal objects - I know that you can use compareTo instead of equals to do that, since equals is documented as: Unlike compareTo, this method considers two BigDecimal objects equal only if they are equal in value and scale (thus 2.0 is not equal to 2.00 when compared by this method). The question is: why has the equals been specified in this seemingly counter-intuitive manner? That is, why is it important to be able to distinguish between 2.0 and 2.00? It seems likely that there must be a reason for this, since the Comparable documentation, which specifies the compareTo method, states: It is strongly recommended (though not required) that natural orderings be consistent with equals I imagine there must be a good reason for ignoring this recommendation.

  Hi, I need some help with a python service. I have a service written in Python. What I need to do is to pass it some arguments. Let me give you an example to explain it a bit better. Lets say I have a service, that does nothing but writes something to a log. I'd like to write the same thing into the log several times, so I use a loop. I would like to pass the counter for the loop when I start the service, but I have no idea how. I start the service with: win32serviceutil.HandleCommandLine(WinService) I'm looking for something like win32serviceutil.HandleCommandLine(WinService,10) I don't really care how its done, as long as I can pass arguments to it. Have been trying to get this to work for the better part of the day with no luck. Also, the service isn't run directly, but is imported and then run from there.

• Drupal vs FatWire - Any thoughts?

  Hi folks, a company I am working for is considering the usage of a CMS, apparently two of the suggested CMSs are Drupal and FatWire. FatWire is proprietary and quite expensive, therefore it seems that there is a not so big community build around the product. Functionality seems to be extensive, even though a few design choices seem counter-intuitive and long-winded. Drupal instead is open source and has an big community backing the product. There are plenty of books around and usage seems more intuitive. Functionality wise I am unsure on how they compare. The main features that the company's team seem to like are team workflow features and revision control (present in FatWire, even though the implementation seems quite limited). Hopefully some of you guys have been faced with these two products before, and might have a few suggestions up their sleeve. Help would be much appreciated!

• Is there a way to only have StyleCop documenation requirements SA1600 on public methods/properties?

  I've been using XMLDoc for a few years now, and have definitely grown into the mindset for supplying quality documentation for public methods and properties. However under StyleCop (and particularly its Resharper highlighting) I've noticed that the documentation requirements apply to identically to public, internal, protected and private methods. This seems a little counter-intuative to me, so I would ideally like to suppress it down to suggestions at least for private methods. Unfortunately it does seem as if the suppress setting is only across all public, internal, private, etc. Am I missing something or is this by design?

  Hi All. I am new to sqlite and SQL in general. I am keen to switch from flat-files to sqlite for holding some measurement information. I need a tip on how to better layout the database, since I have zero experience with this. I have a ~10000 unique statistic counters that are collected before and after each test iteration. Max number of iterations are 10, though it could be less. I was thinking the following: CREATE TABLE stat_names(stat_id, stat_name); CREATE TABLE stats_per_iteration(stat_id, before_iter_1, after_iter_1, before_iter_2, after_iter_2, ...); stat_names table would hold mapping of a full counter to a uniq stat_id. stats_per_iteration table would hold mesurement data 1 + 10 * 2 columns. stat_names.stat_id = stats_per_iteration.stat_id OR maybe I should have a separate table for each iteration? Which would results in 1 + 10 tables in database. Thanks!

The Sessions object is empty even if the code doesn't returned any error. Is my class Session to compex to be stored in a Dictionary?

  We have a script used for each .item: $(".item").each(function(){ item_link = "http://..."; block = $('.block', this); $.get(item_link, function(data) { var src = $('img.slide', data).attr('src'); block.html(src); }); }); item_link variable is uniquie for each query. There can be 100 .item or more. The problem is - server has limit on connections at the same time, that why some .item get var src, some not. The best solution is to use just one .get at the same time. I think there should be some counter, if .get is finished - it gives message "I'm finished, you can start" to the next .get and so on. How to do that? Thanks.

Its a basic script and I hope to practice more and more and develop bigger projects and set myself bigger tasks This script has to do the following : reload a page every 20 seconds (say google.com) after 6 months the script must not run (maybe prompt a window saying "its over 6 months") The code should be able to go into a small chrome extension and also the 6 month time period should be absolute not relative to the time the script was started; for example should the browser crash and i have to turn on the extension again it should not restart the 6 month counter.   Hello, I'm making a hit counter. I have a database and I store the IP and $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; of the visitors. Now I need to add a filter, so I can put away the hits, that are made by bots. I found out, that many bots usually keep some common words in the $_SERVER['HTTP_USER_AGENT']; , so I's like to make and array of words, that would keep the bot from displaying in the results. I was using: for line in map(str.split,inp): x = line[-3] y = line[-2] z = line[-1] for separating the values, but how to do in iterative way. should I do it by using Counter.

  I'm coding in java and I need to create a function that returns the number of Data objects that are currently in an ArrayList. At the moment I have this: int count = 0; for (int i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { if (data[i] != null) { count ++; } } return count; But the problem is that an array list that includes null data is acceptable, and I have to count their null data towards this counter. How do I include the null data that's in the middle of this array, and not the null data that's not supposed to be counted for? For example, I have some tester code that adds (8),null,null,(23),(25) to the array, and this function should return 5 when the initial array size is 10. Thank you so much
