  • django: cannot import settings, cannot login to admin, cannot change admin password

    - by xpanta
Hi, It seems that I am completely lost here. Yesterday I noticed that I cannot login to the admin panel (don't use it much, so it's been some weeks since last login). I thought that I might have changed the admin password and now I can't remember it (though I doubt it). I tried django-admin.py changepassword (using django 1.2.1) but it said that 'changepassword' is unknown command (I have all the necessary imports in my settings.py. Admin interface used to work ok). Then I gave a django-admin.py validate. Then the hell begun. django-admin.py validate gave me this error: Error: Settings cannot be imported, because environment variable DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE is undefined. I then gave a set DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE=myproject.settings and then again a django-admin.py validate This is what I get now: Error: Could not import settings 'myproject.settings' (Is it on sys.path? Does it have syntax errors?): No module named myproject.settings and now I am lost. I tried django console and sys.path.append('c:\workspace') or sys.append('c:\workspace\myproject') but still get the same errors. I use windows 7 and my project dir is c:\workspace. I don't use a PYTHONPATH variable (although I tried setting it temporarily to C:\workspace but I still get the same error). I don't use Apache, just the django development server. What am I doing wrong? My web page works fine. I think that the fact that I can't login as admin is related to the previous import error, no? PS: I also tried this: http://coderseye.com/2007/howto-reset-the-admin-password-in-django.html but still I couldn't change admin password for some reason. Although I could create another admin user (with which I couldn't login).

  • Django 'ImproperlyConfigured' error after deployment on google app engine

    - by oreon
Hello, I'm currently trying to get my first django project running on Google App Engine. I followed the instructions given here http://www.allbuttonspressed.com/projects/djangoappengine as best I could. Unfortunately I have run into some issues. Locally everything runs fine, no problems. I then tried to deploy my project to the cloud. This is where I'm totally stuck. I always receive 500 Server Errors coupled with google.appengine.runtime.DeadlineExceededError's. Every now and then I get the following error message in my logs, which I think is the root of the problem : <class 'django.core.exceptions.ImproperlyConfigured'>: ImportError projectyalanda.pricecompare: No module named projectyalanda.pricecompare Obviously something is wrong in the way I reference my django app. Why this is only an issue in the cloud is a mystery to me. The interesting part in the settings.py file is setup as following: INSTALLED_APPS = ( 'djangotoolbox', # 'django.contrib.auth', 'django.contrib.contenttypes', 'django.contrib.sessions', 'projectyalanda.pricecompare', ) I absolutely can't figure out why django/appengine wouldn't be able to find the module, especially since everything works perfectly locally. So where else can I look? The local folder structure is of course also correct as automatically done by django, so maybe something is messed up during deployment? How would I be able to find out? Please help me ;-) Thanks

  • Django - The included urlconf doesn't have any patterns in it

    - by unsorted
My website, which was working before, suddenly started breaking with the error "ImproperlyConfigured at / The included urlconf resume.urls doesn't have any patterns in it" The project base is called resume. In settings.py I have set ROOT_URLCONF = 'resume.urls' Here's my resume.urls, which sits in the project root directory. from django.conf.urls.defaults import * # Uncomment the next two lines to enable the admin: from django.contrib import admin admin.autodiscover() urlpatterns = patterns('', # Example: # (r'^resume/', include('resume.foo.urls')), # Uncomment the admin/doc line below and add 'django.contrib.admindocs' # to INSTALLED_APPS to enable admin documentation: (r'^admin/doc/', include('django.contrib.admindocs.urls')), # Uncomment the next line to enable the admin: (r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)), (r'^accounts/login/$', 'django.contrib.auth.views.login'), #(r'^employer/', include(students.urls)), (r'^ajax/', include('urls.ajax')), (r'^student/', include('students.urls')), (r'^club/(?P<object_id>\d+)/$', 'resume.students.views.club_detail'), (r'^company/(?P<object_id>\d+)/$', 'resume.students.views.company_detail'), (r'^program/(?P<object_id>\d+)/$', 'resume.students.views.program_detail'), (r'^course/(?P<object_id>\d+)/$', 'resume.students.views.course_detail'), (r'^career/(?P<object_id>\d+)/$', 'resume.students.views.career_detail'), (r'^site_media/(?P<path>.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': 'C:/code/django/resume/media'}), ) I have a folder called urls and a file ajax.py inside. (I also created a blank init.py in the same folder so that urls would be recognized.) This is ajax.py. from django.conf.urls.defaults import * urlpatterns = patterns('', (r'^star/(?P<object_id>\d+)$', 'resume.students.ajax-calls.star'), ) Anyone know what's wrong? This is driving me crazy. Thanks,

  • CentOS: make python 2.6 see django

    - by NP
In a harrowing attempt to get mod_wsgi to run on CentOS 5.4, I've added python 2.6 as an optional library following the instructions here. The configuration seems fine except that when trying to ping the server the Apache log prints this error: mod_wsgi (pid=20033, process='otalo', application='127.0.0.1|'): Loading WSGI script '...django.wsgi'. However, my default python 2.4 installation (still working fine) is able to import successfully. How do I point python 2.6 to django? Thanks in advance.

  • Configure Django project in a subdirectory using mod_python. Admin not working.

    - by David
HI guys. I was trying to configure my django project in a subdirectory of the root, but didn't get things working.(LOcally it works perfect). I followed the django official django documentarion to deploy a project with mod_python. The real problem is that I am getting "Page not found" errors, whenever I try to go to the admin or any view of my apps. Here is my python.conf file located in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ in Fedora 7 LoadModule python_module modules/mod_python.so SetHandler python-program PythonHandler django.core.handlers.modpython SetEnv DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE mysite.settings PythonOption django.root /mysite PythonDebug On PythonPath "['/var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs','/var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs/mysite'] + sys.path" I know /var/www/ is not the best place to put my django project, but I just want to send a demo of my work in progress to my customer, later I will change the location. For example. If I go to www.domain.com/mysite/ I get the index view I configured in mysite.urls. But I cannot access to my app.urls (www.domain.com/mysite/app/) and any of the admin.urls.(www.domain.com/mysite/admin/) Here is mysite.urls: urlpatterns = patterns('', url(r'^admin/password_reset/$', 'django.contrib.auth.views.password_reset', name='password_reset'), (r'^password_reset/done/$', 'django.contrib.auth.views.password_reset_done'), (r'^reset/(?P<uidb36>[0-9A-Za-z]+)-(?P<token>.+)/$', 'django.contrib.auth.views.password_reset_confirm'), (r'^reset/done/$', 'django.contrib.auth.views.password_reset_complete'), (r'^$', 'app.views.index'), (r'^admin/', include(admin.site.urls)), (r'^app/', include('mysite.app.urls')), (r'^photologue/', include('photologue.urls')), ) I also tried changing admin.site.urls with ''django.contrib.admin.urls' , but it didn't worked. I googled a lot to solve this problem and read how other developers configure their django project, but didn't find too much information to deploy django in a subdirectory. I have the admin enabled in INSTALLED_APPS and the settings.py is ok. Please if you have any guide or telling me what I am doing wrong it will be much appreciated. THanks.

  • Java PlayFramework & Python Django GAE

    - by Maik Klein
I already know Java, C# and C++. Now I want to start with web development and I saw that some really big sites are built with Python/C++. I like the coding style of Python, it looks really clean, but some other things like no errors before runtime is really strange. However, I don't know what I should learn now. I started with Python but then I saw that Google App Engine also supports Java and the PlayFramework looks amazing too. Now I am really confused. Should I go with Python or Java? I found the IDE for Python "PyCharm" really amazing for web development. Does Java have something similar, eclipse maybe? I know that this question isn't constructive, but it will help me with my decision. What are pro and cons of both languages?

We want to learn one of this two frameworks and their languages from scratch, so my question is what language is faster to learn, and write app, which is better for small start up

  • Django - how should I implement generic apps that have dependencies on other generic apps?

    - by MikeRand
Hi all, I'm using Marty Alchin's Django app that creates historical records (add, change, delete) based on models found in other Django apps (found in chapter 11 of Pro Django). Question: how do I implement this historical_records app into my other generic Django apps while still maintaining loose coupling? For example, I have a generic app (forecast) that manages a Forecast (of any other model). For one project, I'd like to use historical_records so that I can track changes to a Forecast instance. But I don't want to require all future projects that might want to use forecast to also use historical_records. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

  • Next steps for Asp.Net C# developer (RoR vs Python Django vs PhP Drupal)

    - by ProfessorB
A majority of my web development experience has been on the .Net stack (mainly Asp.net C#). I am looking to learn something new in my spare time, for the use of personal projects and possibly for use professionally (as an ISV). I know some Python, done some scripting with it in the past, nothing on the web though. Php has been around for a long time and RoR has gained a lot of popularity. Are there any developers from the .NET world that have migrated over to one or more of the other platforms? If so, which do you prefer and why? Which would you suggest and why?

  • What sorts of tools make a Django Developer valuable? [closed]

    - by MrOodles
I am a Django Consultant and I want to increase the value that I provide to clients. My first question was an epic failure according to the FAQ. So I'll try again before I delete it. What types of tools should a Django developer have in his tool belt to increase the value to the client? Would a collection of project templates be useful? Are there open-source project templates available that can be forked and altered? Is there a proper way to configure templates to include dependencies for certain types of projects? What about deployment scripts using tools like Puppet or Chef? Does it make a lot of sense to fork Django apps on GitHub and make contributions to open source projects there? Would clients percieve extra value in programmers that are contributing to open source projects? Are there industry best practices for implementing continuous integration in a Django project? I want the answer to be open ended, as I'm at the beginning of my research. I am curious to know what sorts of tools other Django consultants use on a daily and per-project basis, and how they use them.

  • Launch only the command if the previous one worked inside SSH, SHELL

    - by Namari
I've got a SHELL script which is using a pipe to separate my 2 commands: ssh -oBatchMode=yes user@hostname "mysql -u yop -pyop -c yop | echo test" The problem is even if my connection to mysql doesn't work, it send the echo test. I would like to forbid my script to send any command if the previous command doesn't work. I search with a if condition but it seems it not possible with it :( Does anyone have an idea ? Thanks, Namari

  • *nix shell with IOS style completion?

Is there a Linux shell that will let you type less than full commands as you can with Cisco IOS, at least for the first command (and not its arguments)? I haven't really thought enough if this is actually a good thing, but might be fun to play with :-)

  • Alternative Windows shell?

    - by user17943
I can't stand the Windows "shell". I can't copy text off a command prompt window, the .bat syntax is retarded, I can't stand how the command buffer works, it doesn't support ANSI color codes, I could go on and on. Are there any alternatives to the Windows command prompt (please, do not answer "Linux".)

  • Groff ignores line breaks from my shell

    - by Fred
Hello, I've been using groff to make ps files for printing with the -man flag. If I want to convert anything else such as a header file or just the output from ls -l or other program the line breaks are ignored, producing a mess. How can I get groff to see and respect the line breaks in use in the shell?

  • Good Windows shell replacement [closed]

    - by Jazz
I'm looking for a shell replacement for Windows, instead of Explorer. The features I'm looking at are: a task bar a tray bar an application launcher (I mostly use Launchy for that, but I need a launcher for those applications I forget the name...) The lighter and the easier to configure, the better! I'm currently using Emerge, but I found it a little buggy. I tried many others, but I never found something convincing.
