  • Infinite loop during A* algorithm

    - by Tashu
    The A* algorithm is used by enemies to have a path to the goal. It's working but when sometimes I placed a tower in a grid (randomly) it produces a stack overflow error. The A* algorithm would iterate the enemy and find its path and pass the list to the enemy's path. I added debug logs and the list that I'm getting it looks like it would arrive from start cell to goal cell. Here's the log - 06-19 19:26:41.982: DEBUG/findEnemyPath, enemy X:Y(4281): X2.8256836:Y3.5 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/findEnemyPath, grid X:Y(4281): X3:Y2 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/START CELL ID:(4281): 38 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/GOAL CELL ID:(4281): 47 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Best : 38(4281): passThrough:0.0 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 38 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 38 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 38 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 38 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Best : 39(4281): passThrough:8.875 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 39 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 39 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 39 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Best : 40(4281): passThrough:7.9375 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 40 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 40 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Best : 52(4281): passThrough:8.9375 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 52 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 52 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Best : 53(4281): passThrough:7.96875 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 53 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Best : 28(4281): passThrough:8.9375 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 28 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Best : 65(4281): passThrough:8.984375 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 65 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 65 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Best : 66(4281): passThrough:7.9921875 06-19 19:26:41.990: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 66 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 78(4281): passThrough:8.99609375 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 78 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 79(4281): passThrough:7.998046875 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 79 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 80(4281): passThrough:6.9990234375 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 80 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 80 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 81(4281): passThrough:5.99951171875 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 81 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 81 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 82(4281): passThrough:4.999755859375 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 82 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 82 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 83(4281): passThrough:3.9998779296875 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 83 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 71(4281): passThrough:2.99993896484375 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 71 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 59(4281): passThrough:1.99951171875 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 59 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 59 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Neighbor's Parent:(4281): 59 06-19 19:26:42.000: DEBUG/Best : 47(4281): passThrough:0.99951171875 Then, the goal cell would be iterating its parent till start cell to break off the loop. private void populateBestList(Cell cell, List<Cell> bestList) { bestList.add(cell); if (cell.parent.start == false) { Log.d("ID:", ""+cell.id); Log.d("ParentID:", ""+cell.parent.id); populateBestList(cell.parent, bestList); } return; } The log with error above would show like this - 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ID:(4281): 47 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ParentID:(4281): 59 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ID:(4281): 59 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ParentID:(4281): 71 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ID:(4281): 71 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ParentID:(4281): 59 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ID:(4281): 59 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ParentID:(4281): 71 06-19 19:26:42.010: DEBUG/ID:(4281): 71 71 and 59 would switch over and goes on. I thought the grid is the issue due to the fact that enemies are using the single grid so I make the parent, start, and goal clear before starting the A* algorithm for an enemy. for(int i = 0; i < GRID_HEIGHT; i++) { for(int j = 0; j < GRID_WIDTH; j++) { grid[i][j].parent = null; grid[i][j].start = false; grid[i][j].goal = false; } } That didn't work. I thought it might be something related to this code, but not sure if I'm on right track - neighbor.parent = best; openList.remove(neighbor); closedList.remove(neighbor); openList.add(0, neighbor); Here's the code of the A* algorithm - private List<Cell> findEnemyPath(Enemy enemy) { for(int i = 0; i < GRID_HEIGHT; i++) { for(int j = 0; j < GRID_WIDTH; j++) { grid[i][j].parent = null; grid[i][j].start = false; grid[i][j].goal = false; } } List<Cell> openList = new ArrayList<Cell>(); List<Cell> closedList = new ArrayList<Cell>(); List<Cell> bestList = new ArrayList<Cell>(); int width = (int)Math.floor(enemy.position.x); int height = (int)Math.floor(enemy.position.y); width = (width < 0) ? 0 : width; height = (height < 0) ? 0 : height; Log.d("findEnemyPath, enemy X:Y", "X"+enemy.position.x+":"+"Y"+enemy.position.y); Log.d("findEnemyPath, grid X:Y", "X"+height+":"+"Y"+width); Cell start = grid[height][width]; Cell goal = grid[ENEMY_GOAL_HEIGHT][ENEMY_GOAL_WIDTH]; if(start.id != goal.id) { Log.d("START CELL ID: ", ""+start.id); Log.d("GOAL CELL ID: ", ""+goal.id); //Log.d("findEnemyPath, grid X:Y", "X"+start.position.x+":"+"Y"+start.position.y); start.start = true; goal.goal = true; openList.add(start); while(openList.size() > 0) { Cell best = findBestPassThrough(openList, goal); //Log.d("ID:", ""+best.id); openList.remove(best); closedList.add(best); if (best.goal) { System.out.println("Found Goal"); System.out.println(bestList.size()); populateBestList(goal, bestList); /* for(Cell cell : bestList) { Log.d("ID:", ""+cell.id); Log.d("ParentID:", ""+cell.parent.id); } */ Collections.reverse(bestList); Cell exit = new Cell(13.5f, 3.5f, 1, 1); exit.isExit = true; bestList.add(exit); //Log.d("PathList", "Enemy ID : " + enemy.id); return bestList; } else { List<Cell> neighbors = getNeighbors(best); for (Cell neighbor : neighbors) { if(neighbor.isTower) { continue; } if (openList.contains(neighbor)) { Cell tmpCell = new Cell(neighbor.position.x, neighbor.position.y, 1, 1); tmpCell.parent = best; if (tmpCell.getPassThrough(goal) >= neighbor.getPassThrough(goal)) { continue; } } if (closedList.contains(neighbor)) { Cell tmpCell = new Cell(neighbor.position.x, neighbor.position.y, 1, 1); tmpCell.parent = best; if (tmpCell.getPassThrough(goal) >= neighbor.getPassThrough(goal)) { continue; } } Log.d("Neighbor's Parent: ", ""+best.id); neighbor.parent = best; openList.remove(neighbor); closedList.remove(neighbor); openList.add(0, neighbor); } } } } Log.d("Cannot find a path", ""); return null; }

  • Silverlight for Windows Embedded Tutorial (step 5 and a bit of Windows Phone 7)

    - by Valter Minute
    If you haven’t spent the last week in the middle of the Sahara desert or traveling on a sled in the north pole area you should have heard something about the launch of Windows Phone 7 Series (or Windows Phone Series 7, or Windows Series Phone 7 or something like that). Even if you are in the middle of the desert or somewhere around the north pole you may have been reached by the news, since it seems that WP7S (using the full name will kill my available bandwidth!) is generating a lot of buzz in the development and IT communities. One of the most important aspects of this new platform is that it will be programmed using a new set of tools and frameworks, completely different from the ones used on older releases of Windows Mobile (or SmartPhone, or PocketPC or whatever…). WP7S applications can be developed using Silverlight or XNA. If you want to learn something more about WP7S development you can download the preview of Charles Petzold’s book about it: http://www.charlespetzold.com/phone/index.html Charles Petzold is also the author of “Programming Windows”, the first book I ever read about programming on Windows (it was Windows 3.0 at that time!). The fact that even I was able to learn how to develop Windows application is a proof of the quality of Petzold’s work. This book is up to his standards and the 150pages preview is already rich in technical contents without being boring or complicated to understand. I may be able to become a Windows Phone developer thanks to mr. Petzold. Mr. Petzold uses some nice samples to introduce the basic concepts of Silverlight development on WP7S. On this new platform you’ll use managed code to develop your application, so those samples can’t be ported on Windows CE R3 as they are, but I would like to take one of the first samples (called “SilverlightTapHello1”) and adapt it to Silverlight for Windows Embedded to show that even plain old native code can be used to develop “cool” user interfaces! The sample shows the standard WP7S title header and a textbox with an hello world message inside it. When the user touches the textbox, it will change its color. When the user touches the background (Grid) behind it, its default color (plain old White) will be restored. Let’s see how we can implement the same features on our embedded device! I took the XAML code of the sample (you can download the book samples here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/D/B/1DB49641-3956-41F1-BAFA-A021673C709E/CodeSamples_DRAFTPreview_ProgrammingWindowsPhone7Series.zip) and changed it a little bit to remove references to WP7S or managed runtime. If you compare the resulting files you will see that I was able to keep all the resources inside the App.xaml files and the structure of  MainPage.XAML almost intact. This is the Silverlight for Windows Embedded version of MainPage.XAML: <UserControl x:Class="SilverlightTapHello1.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:phoneNavigation="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Phone.Controls;assembly=Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Navigation" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignWidth="480" d:DesignHeight="800" FontFamily="{StaticResource PhoneFontFamilyNormal}" FontSize="{StaticResource PhoneFontSizeNormal}" Foreground="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}" Width="640" Height="480">   <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="{StaticResource PhoneBackgroundBrush}"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="*"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions>   <!--TitleGrid is the name of the application and page title--> <Grid x:Name="TitleGrid" Grid.Row="0"> <TextBlock Text="SILVERLIGHT TAP HELLO #1" x:Name="textBlockPageTitle" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextPageTitle1Style}"/> <TextBlock Text="main page" x:Name="textBlockListTitle" Style="{StaticResource PhoneTextPageTitle2Style}"/> </Grid>   <!--ContentGrid is empty. Place new content here--> <Grid x:Name="ContentGrid" Grid.Row="1" MouseLeftButtonDown="ContentGrid_MouseButtonDown" Background="{StaticResource PhoneBackgroundBrush}"> <TextBlock x:Name="TextBlock" Text="Hello, Silverlight for Windows Embedded!" HorizontalAlignment="Center" VerticalAlignment="Center" /> </Grid> </Grid> </UserControl> If you compare it to the WP7S sample (not reported here to avoid any copyright issue) you’ll notice that I had to replace the original phoneNavigation:PhoneApplicationPage with UserControl as the root node. This make sense because there is not support for phone applications on CE 6. I also had to specify width and height of my main page (on the WP7S device this will be adjusted by the OS) and I had to replace the multi-touch event handler with the MouseLeftButtonDown event (no multitouch support for Windows CE R3, still). I also changed the hello message, of course. I used XAML2CPP to generate the boring part of our application and then added the initialization code to WinMain: int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPTSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { if (!XamlRuntimeInitialize()) return -1;   HRESULT retcode;   IXRApplicationPtr app; if (FAILED(retcode=GetXRApplicationInstance(&app))) return -1; XRXamlSource dictsrc;   dictsrc.SetResource(hInstance,TEXT("XAML"),IDR_XAML_App);   if (FAILED(retcode=app->LoadResourceDictionary(&dictsrc,NULL))) return -1;   MainPage page;   if (FAILED(page.Init(hInstance,app))) return -1;   UINT exitcode;   if (FAILED(page.GetVisualHost()->StartDialog(&exitcode))) return -1;   return exitcode; }   You may have noticed that there is something different from the previous samples. I added the code to load a resource dictionary. Resources are an important feature of XAML that allows you to define some values that could be replaced inside any XAML file loaded by the runtime. You can use resources to define custom styles for your fonts, backgrounds, controls etc. and to support internationalization, by providing different strings for different languages. The rest of our WinMain isn’t that different. It creates an instances of our MainPage object and displays it. The MainPage class implements an event handler for the MouseLeftButtonDown event of the ContentGrid: class MainPage : public TMainPage<MainPage> { public:   HRESULT ContentGrid_MouseButtonDown(IXRDependencyObject* source,XRMouseButtonEventArgs* args) { HRESULT retcode; IXRSolidColorBrushPtr brush; IXRApplicationPtr app;   if (FAILED(retcode=GetXRApplicationInstance(&app))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=app->CreateObject(IID_IXRSolidColorBrush,&brush))) return retcode;   COLORREF color=RGBA(0xff,0xff,0xff,0xff);   if (args->pOriginalSource==TextBlock) color=RGBA(rand()&0xFF,rand()&0xFF,rand()&0xFF,0xFF);   if (FAILED(retcode=brush->SetColor(color))) return retcode;   if (FAILED(retcode=TextBlock->SetForeground(brush))) return retcode; return S_OK; } }; As you can see this event is generated when a used clicks inside the grid or inside one of the objects it contains. Since our TextBlock is inside the grid, we don’t need to provide an event handler for its MouseLeftButtonDown event. We can just use the pOriginalSource member of the event arguments to check if the event was generated inside the textblock. If the event was generated inside the grid we create a white brush,if it’s inside the textblock we create some randomly colored brush. Notice that we need to use the RGBA macro to create colors, specifying also a transparency value for them. If we use the RGB macro the resulting color will have its Alpha channel set to zero and will be transparent. Using the SetForeground method we can change the color of our control. You can compare this to the managed code that you can find at page 40-41 of Petzold’s preview book and you’ll see that the native version isn’t much more complex than the managed one. As usual you can download the full code of the sample here: http://cid-9b7b0aefe3514dc5.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/SilverlightTapHello1.zip And remember to pre-order Charles Petzold’s “Programming Windows Phone 7 series”, I bet it will be a best-seller! • What are good systems for managing PHP/MySQL infrastructure?

    - by sbrattla
    I work in a company which is about to migrate most applications from in-house custom built Java/Tomcat applications to Drupal. Due to company policies, applications and websites need to run on in-house servers. This means that we need infrastructure for Drupal (PHP/MySQL) applications. This must have been solved a million times already. I believe this is what web-hosting companies does every day. Even though we work on a much smaller scale than web-hosting companies, i assume it would make sense to look at the task as if we're going to have an internal small-scale web-hosting company. This means that the guys in IT operations could be "responsible" for "offering" web-hosting, while developers could use these "services". We have three environments; dev(elopment), test and prod(uction). It would make sense that developers could log in to a system and create/edit/delete dev and test sites as they'd like. Production sites should be available through the same system, but only available to IT ops. We need to work with clusters of web servers, meaning that an administration system should be capable of creating/editing/deleting sites across multiple servers. I know there's no "this is it" answer to my question; but what would be a good place to start to get going with this? Apart from the actual hardware, what would be a good administration system for this?

  • Project Server 2007 Task Updates hangs on 'Loading Grid...'

    - by entens
    A strange problem began occurring after applying MOSS2 (KB953334) and the August 2009 cumulative update to our Project server. When a user enters the 'Task Update' screen they are prompted to download a new ActiveX control. Upon refresh, and subsequent access attempts, the user is presented with a blank grid with the caption 'Loading Grid...' We have attempted to fix this issue by updating the 'Trusted Sites' list and changing the security settings according to KB818046. However, nothing seems to definitely fix the problem. Also, when the problem randomly fixes itself, it still occurs when viewing specific projects. Any ideas on a fix?

  • How to programmatically create customcontrol and change its values in Silverlight 4

    - by user361317
    Hi! I want to create a custom tabcontrol class which has an icon before the text, and I want to be able to change the icon in the constructor of the new tabcontrol. I use implicit styles in Silverlight 4, and the custom tabcontrol should not have any xaml of its own, just the class and the implicit xaml style in my App.xaml. I cannot, however, get this to work. This is my code: <!-- Style for generic tabcontrols --> 20,0,0,0 <Style TargetType="controls:TabItem"> <Setter Property="IsTabStop" Value="False"/> <Setter Property="Background" Value="#FFDBEDFB"/> Is this even possible? Can someone point me in the right direction? Cheers! - jonah

  • Correctly calling setGridWidth on a jqGrid inside a jQueryUI Dialog

    - by Dan
    I have a jQueryUI dialog (#locDialog) which has a jqGrid ($grid) inside it. When the Dialog opens (initially, but it gets called whenever it opens), I want the $grid to resize to the size of the $locDialog. When I do this initially, I get scrollbars inside the grid (not inside the dialog). If I debug the code, I see the width of the $grid is 677. So, I call setGridWidth() again and check the width and now I have 659, which is 18px less, which is the size of the scroll area for the jqGrid (Dun-dun-dun..) When I rezie the dialog, I resize the grid as well, and everything is happy - no scrollbars, except where necessary. My dialog init code: $locDialog = $('#location-dialog').dialog({ autoOpen: false, modal: true, position: ['center', 100], width: 700, height:500, resizable: true, buttons: { "Show Selected": function() {alert($('#grid').jqGrid('getGridParam','selarrrow'));}, "OK": function() {$(this).dialog('close');}, "Cancel": function() {$(this).dialog('close');} }, open: function(event, ui) { $grid.setGridHeight($(this).height()-54); // No idea why 54 is the magic number here $grid.setGridWidth($(this).width(), true); }, close: function(event, ui) { }, resizeStop: function(event, ui) { $grid.setGridWidth($locDialog.width(), true); $grid.setGridHeight($locDialog.height()-54); } }); I am curious if anyone has seen this before. Really, it isn't the end of the world if I initially have unnecessary scrollbars at first, but it is just odd that when I call setGridWidth initially, it doesn't take into account the scroll area of 18px. As far as the magical number 54, that is the number I had to subtract from the height of the dialog value to get the grid to render without unnecessary scrollbars.

  • WinForms Control.BeginInvoke asynchronous callback

    - by Darran
    I have a number of Janus grid controls that need to be populated on an application startup. I'd like to load these grids on different threads to speed startup time and the time it takes to refresh these grids. Each grid is on a seperate tab. Ideally I'd like to use Control.BeginInvoke on each grid and on the grid load completing the tabs will become enabled. I know with Delegates you can do a Asynchronous callback when using BeginInvoke, so I could enable the tabs in the asynchronous callback, however when using Control.BeginInvoke this is not possible. Is there a way to do asynchronous callbacks using Control.BeginInvoke or possibly a better solution? So far I have: public delegate void BindDelegate(IMyGrid grid); private IAsyncResult InvokeBind(IMyGrid grid) { return ((Control)grid).BeginInvoke( new BindDelegate(DoBind), new object[] { grid } ); } private void DoBind(IMyGrid grid) { grid.Bind(); // Expensive operation } private void RefreshComplete() { IAsyncResult grid1Asynch = InvokeBind(grid1); IAsyncResult grid2Asynch = InvokeBind(grid2); IAsyncResult grid3Asynch = InvokeBind(grid2); IAsyncResult grid4Asynch = InvokeBind(grid3); IAsyncResult grid5Asynch = InvokeBind(grid4); IAsyncResult grid6Asynch = InvokeBind(grid5); } Now I could spin off a separate thread and keep checking to see if the IAsynchResults have completed and depending on which one completes I could re-enable the Tab control that the grid is contained in. Is there a better way of doing this?

  • Silverlight: stretching to remaining space in StackPanel

  • MVC 2.0 - JqGrid Sorting with Mulitple Tables

    - by Billy Logan
    I am in the process of implementing the jqGrid and would like to be able to use the sorting functionality. I have run into some issues with sorting columns that are related to the base table. Here is the script to load the grid: public JsonResult GetData(GridSettings grid) { try { using (IWE dataContext = new IWE()) { var query = dataContext.LKTYPE.Include("VWEPICORCATEGORY").AsQueryable(); ////sorting query = query.OrderBy<LKTYPE>(grid.SortColumn, grid.SortOrder); //count var count = query.Count(); //paging var data = query.Skip((grid.PageIndex - 1) * grid.PageSize).Take(grid.PageSize).ToArray(); //converting in grid format var result = new { total = (int)Math.Ceiling((double)count / grid.PageSize), page = grid.PageIndex, records = count, rows = (from host in data select new { TYPE_ID = host.TYPE_ID, TYPE = host.TYPE, CR_ACTIVE = host.CR_ACTIVE, description = host.VWEPICORCATEGORY.description }).ToArray() }; return Json(result, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); } } catch (Exception ex) { //send the error email ExceptionPolicy.HandleException(ex, "Exception Policy"); } //have to return something if there is an issue return Json(""); } As you can see the description field is a part of the related table("VWEPICORCATEGORY") and the order by is targeted at LKTYPE. I am trying to figure out how exactly one goes about sorting that particular field or maybe even a better way to implement this grid using multiple tables and it's sorting functionality. Thanks in advance, Billy

  • Windows Phone 7 ListBox uncustomizable?

    I've just recently started development using Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone and I put in a ListBox. I can't seem to manipulate the formatting. No matter what I do, the background is black/gray, the selected items have a blue border, and there is padding between the items in the listbox (i'm using images). Here is my code: Xaml: <Grid x:Name="ContentGrid" Grid.Row="1"> <Grid Name="gallery"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="370" /> <RowDefinition Height="150" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Border BorderBrush="Red" Width="450" CornerRadius="4" BorderThickness="2" Background="Red" Margin="10,30,20,10" Padding="6,6,6,6"> <Image Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Height="360" x:Name="imgPreview"/> </Border> <ListBox x:Name="lbScrollGallery" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Padding="0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="450" SelectionChanged="ScrollerSelectionChanged" d:LayoutOverrides="HorizontalAlignment" ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"> <ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Image Width="100" Height="100" Stretch="Fill" Name="imgSource" VerticalAlignment="Center" Source="{Binding Path=Url}" /> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </Grid> </Grid> Is there some way I can customize the listbox? Is any CSS Frameworks really can save time and make semantic code even for Experienced CSS developer? Many CSS Frameworksd are popular in SIMPLE PSD 2 XHTML CSS and in wordpress/drupal/joomla theme development. Can we make CSS XHTML development as faster as with CSS frameworks but without using CSS Grid Frameworks? What makes development with CSS frameworks faster which we can't do without frameworks?

  • WPF storyboard animation issue when using VisualBrush

    - by Flack
    Hey guys, I was playing around with storyboards, a flipping animation, and visual brushes. I have encountered an issue though. Below is the xaml and code-behind of a small sample I quickly put together to try to demonstrate the problem. When you first start the app, you are presented with a red square and two buttons. If you click the "Flip" button, the red square will "flip" over and a blue one will appear. In reality, all that is happening is that the scale of the width of the StackPanel that the red square is in is being decreased until it reaches zero and then the StackPanel where a blue square is, whose width is initially scaled to zero, has its width increased. If you click the "Flip" button a few times, the animation looks ok and smooth. Now, if you hit the "Reflection" button, a reflection of the red/blue buttons is added to their respective StackPanels. Hitting the "Flip" button now will still cause the flip animation but it is no longer a smooth animation. The StackPanels width often does not shrink to zero. The width shrinks somewhat but then just stops before being completely invisible. Then the other StackPanel appears as usual. The only thing that changed was adding the reflection, which is just a VisualBrush. Below is the code. Does anyone have any idea why the animations are different between the two cases (stalling in the second case)? Thanks. <Window xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xml:lang="en-US" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2006" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" x:Class="WpfFlipTest.Window1" x:Name="Window" Title="Window1" Width="214" Height="224"> <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlip"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="redStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.4" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.4" Storyboard.TargetName="blueStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.8" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlipBack"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="blueStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.4" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.4" Storyboard.TargetName="redStack" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.8" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Gray"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel Name="redStack" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="redBorder" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Button Margin="0" Name="redButton" Height="75" Background="Red" Width="105" /> </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=redBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=redBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Name="redRefelction" Visibility="Collapsed"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=redButton}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <StackPanel Name="blueStack" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="0"/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="blueBorder" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Button Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Margin="0" Width="105" Background="Blue" Name="blueButton" Height="75"/> </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=blueBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=blueBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent" BorderThickness="4" Name="blueRefelction" Visibility="Collapsed"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=blueButton}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <Button Grid.Row="1" Click="FlipButton_Click" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76">Flip</Button> <Button Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Click="ReflectionButton_Click" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76">Reflection</Button> </Grid> </Window> Here are the button click handlers: using System; if (flipped) { sbFlipBack.Begin(); flipped = false; } else { sbFlip.Begin(); flipped = true; } } bool reflection = false; private void ReflectionButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { if (reflection) { reflection = false; redRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; blueRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Collapsed; } else { reflection = true; redRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; blueRefelction.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } } } } UPDATE: I have been testing this some more to try to find out what is causing the issue I am seeing and I believe I found what is causing the issue. Below I have pasted new xaml and code-behind. The new sample below is very similar to the original sample, with a few minor modifications. The xaml basically consists of two stack panels, each containing two borders. The second border in each stack panel is a visual brush (a reflection of the border above it). Now, when I click the "Flip" button, one stack panel gets its ScaleX reduced to zero, while the second stack panel, whose initial ScaleX is zero, gets its ScaleX increased to 1. This animation gives the illusion of flipping. There are also two textblocks which display the scale factor of each stack panel. I added those to try to diagnose my issue. The issue is (as described in the oringal post) that the flipping animation is not smooth. Every time I hit the flip button, the animation starts but whenever the ScaleX factor gets to around .14 to .16, the animation looks like it stalls and the stack panels never have there ScaleX reduced to zero, so they never totally disappear. Now, the strange thing is that if I change the Width/Height properties of the "frontBorder" and "backBorder" borders defined below to use explict values instead of Auto, such as Width=105 and Height=75 (to match the button in the border) everything works fine. The animation stutters the first two or three times I run it but after that the flips are smooth and flawless. (BTW, when an animation is run for the first time, is there something going on in the background, some sort of initialization, that causes it to be a little slow the first time?) Is it possible that the Auto Width/Height of the borders are causing the issue? I can reproduce it everytime but I am not sure why Auto Width/Height would be a problem. Below is the sample. Thanks for the help. <Window x:Class="FlipTest.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <Window.Resources> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlip"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="front" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.5" Storyboard.TargetName="back" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> <Storyboard x:Key="sbFlipBack"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="back" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="0"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00.5" Storyboard.TargetName="front" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <SplineDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00.5" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </Window.Resources> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White" ShowGridLines="True"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> <RowDefinition Height="Auto"/> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel x:Name="front" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="frontBorder" BorderBrush="Yellow" BorderThickness="2" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Button Margin="0" Name="redButton" Height="75" Background="Red" Width="105" Click="FlipButton_Click"/> </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=frontBorder}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <StackPanel x:Name="back" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <StackPanel.RenderTransform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="0"/> </StackPanel.RenderTransform> <Border Name="backBorder" BorderBrush="Yellow" BorderThickness="2" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <Button Margin="0" Width="105" Background="Blue" Name="blueButton" Height="75" Click="FlipButton_Click"/> </Border> <Border Width="{Binding ElementName=backBorder, Path=ActualWidth}" Height="{Binding ElementName=backBorder, Path=ActualHeight}" Opacity="0.2" BorderBrush="Transparent"> <Border.OpacityMask> <LinearGradientBrush StartPoint="0,0" EndPoint="0,1"> <LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> <GradientStop Offset="0" Color="Black"/> <GradientStop Offset=".6" Color="Transparent"/> </LinearGradientBrush.GradientStops> </LinearGradientBrush> </Border.OpacityMask> <Border.Background> <VisualBrush Visual="{Binding ElementName=backBorder}"> <VisualBrush.Transform> <ScaleTransform ScaleX="1" ScaleY="-1" CenterX="52.5" CenterY="37.5" /> </VisualBrush.Transform> </VisualBrush> </Border.Background> </Border> </StackPanel> <Button Grid.Row="1" Click="FlipButton_Click" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76">Flip</Button> <TextBlock Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="0" Foreground="DarkRed" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76" Text="{Binding ElementName=front, Path=(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)}"/> <TextBlock Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="0" Foreground="DarkBlue" Height="19.45" HorizontalAlignment="Left" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="76" Text="{Binding ElementName=back, Path=(UIElement.RenderTransform).(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)}"/> </Grid> </Window> Code-behind: using System;   • How to bind a WPF CustomControl to a ListBox

    - by VivyG
    I've just started to learn WPF this week so please accept my apologies if I am being stupid or missing fundamental points! Iam trying to build a very simple Contact browser. I have a Collection of Contact objects that displayed in a ListBox control which shows the FullName of the Contact and to the right I have a customControl called BasicContactCard. This is the XAML for the ContacWindow that displays the ListBox: <DockPanel Width="auto" Height="auto" Margin="8 8 8 8"> <Border Height="56" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Top" BorderThickness="1" CornerRadius="8" DockPanel.Dock="Top" Background="Beige"> <TextBox Height="32" Margin="23,5,135,5" Text="Search for contact here" FontStyle="Italic" Foreground="#FFAD9595" FontSize="14" BorderBrush="LightGray"/> </Border> <ListBox x:Name="contactList" DockPanel.Dock="Left" Width="192" Height="auto" Margin="5 4 0 8" /> <Grid> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> <RowDefinition Height="0.125*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <local:BasicContactCard Margin="8 8 8 8" /> <Button Grid.Row="1" x:Name="exit" Content="Exit" HorizontalAlignment="Right" Width="50" Height="25" Click="exit_Click" /> </Grid> </DockPanel> and this is the XAML for the CustomControl: <DockPanel Width="auto " Height="auto" Margin="8,8,8,8"> <Grid Width="auto" Height="auto" DockPanel.Dock="Top"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> <RowDefinition Height="1*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <TextBlock x:Name="companyField" Grid.Row="0" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="8,8,8,8" Text="Company"/> <TextBlock x:Name="contactField" Grid.Row="1" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="8,8,8,8" Text="Contact"/> <TextBlock x:Name="phoneField" Grid.Row="2" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="8,8,8,8" Text="Phone"/> <TextBlock x:Name="emailField" Grid.Row="3" Width="auto" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Margin="8,8,8,8" Text="email"/> </Grid> </DockPanel> The problem I have is how do I bind the individual elements of the CustomControl to the object behind the SelectedItem in the ListBox?

  • Stretch panel with splitter

    - by user1153896
    I want to implement a basic WPF layout with three panels and two splitters (Horizontal and Vertical splitter). Two panels on the left and on the bottom has to be callapsable and one panel has to stretch accordingly. Here is a simple XAML: <Grid> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="*"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="5"/> <ColumnDefinition Width="*"/> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <StackPanel Background="Aqua" Grid.Column="0" Name="leftPanel" > <TextBlock FontSize="35" Foreground="#58290A" TextWrapping="Wrap">Left Hand Side</TextBlock> </StackPanel> <GridSplitter Grid.Column="1" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"/> <Grid Grid.Column="2" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> <RowDefinition Height="5" /> <RowDefinition Height="*" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <StackPanel HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"> <Label Content="... Clien Area .. Has to Stretch vertically and horizontally" Margin="10"></Label> <Button Click="LeftButton_Click" Margin="10">Close Left Panel</Button> <Button Click="BottomButton_Click" Margin="10">Close Bottom Panel</Button> </StackPanel> <GridSplitter Grid.Row="1" Background="Gray" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"/> <ListBox Grid.Row="2" Background="Violet" Name="bottomPanel"> <ListBoxItem>Hello</ListBoxItem> <ListBoxItem>World</ListBoxItem> </ListBox> </Grid> </Grid> and codebehind: private void LeftButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { leftPanel.Visibility = (leftPanel.Visibility == System.Windows.Visibility.Visible)? System.Windows.Visibility.Collapsed : System.Windows.Visibility.Visible; } private void BottomButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { bottomPanel.Visibility = (bottomPanel.Visibility == System.Windows.Visibility.Visible) ? System.Windows.Visibility.Collapsed : System.Windows.Visibility.Visible; } This code doesn't work as expected :(. Any WPF experts around? to suggest a solution for having Client Area (stretched) and splitter at the same time? DockPanel will work perfectly, but I need splitter! Thanks.

  • DataTrigger inside ControlTemplate doesn't update

    - by kennethkryger
    I have a ListBox that is bound to a list of CustomerViewModel-objects, that each has two dependency properties: - Name (string) - Description (string) - IsVisible (bool) (the IsVisible property is True by default and is reversed via the ToggleVisibility Command on the CustomerViewModel) I would like to display the Name and Description to the right of a Border-control, that is has a Transparent background when the IsVisible property is True and Green when the False. My problem is that the DataTrigger part of the code below doesn't work the way I want, because the Setter-part isn't triggered when the IsVisible is changed. What am I doing wrong? Here's my code: <UserControl.Resources> <Style x:Key="ListBoxStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ListBox}"> <Setter Property="Margin" Value="-1,-1,0,0" /> <Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="0" /> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> <Setter Property="ItemContainerStyle" Value="{DynamicResource ListboxItemStyle}" /> <Setter Property="ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility" Value="Disabled" /> </Style> <Style x:Key="ListboxItemStyle" TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent" /> <Setter Property="FocusVisualStyle" Value="{x:Null}" /> <Setter Property="Template"> <Setter.Value> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type ListBoxItem}"> <Grid> <Border x:Name="border" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" BorderBrush="#FFD4D6D5" BorderThickness="0,0,0,1"> <Grid Height="70" Margin="0,0,10,0"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="10" /> <RowDefinition Height="Auto" /> <RowDefinition /> <RowDefinition Height="10" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="Auto" /> <ColumnDefinition /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Border x:Name="visibilityColumn" Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Grid.RowSpan="4" Background="Transparent" Width="4" Margin="0,0,4,0" /> <TextBlock x:Name="customerName" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Foreground="#FF191919" FontWeight="Bold" Text="{Binding Name}" VerticalAlignment="Top" /> <TextBlock Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="1" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" Text="{Binding Description}" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="#FFB4B4B4" TextTrimming="CharacterEllipsis" /> </Grid> <Border.ContextMenu> <ContextMenu> <MenuItem Header="Edit..." /> <MenuItem Header="Visible" IsCheckable="True" IsChecked="{Binding IsVisible}" Command="{Binding ToggleVisibility}"/> </ContextMenu> </Border.ContextMenu> </Border> </Grid> <ControlTemplate.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsMouseOver" Value="True"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="#FFEEEEEE" /> </Trigger> <Trigger Property="IsSelected" Value="True"> <Setter Property="Background" Value="#FFF5F5F5" /> <Setter TargetName="customerName" Property="Foreground" Value="Green" /> </Trigger> <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding IsVisible}" Value="False"> <!--If Value="True" the customerName Border shows up green!--> <Setter Property="Background" Value="Green" /> </DataTrigger> </ControlTemplate.Triggers> </ControlTemplate> </Setter.Value> </Setter> </Style> </UserControl.Resources> <ListBox Style="{StaticResource ListBoxStyle}" ItemsSource="{Binding CustomerViewModels}" />

  • WPF Databinding- Part 2 of 3

    - by Shervin Shakibi
    This is a follow up to my previous post WPF Databinding- Not your fathers databinding Part 1-3 you can download the source code here  http://ssccinc.com/wpfdatabinding.zip Example 04   In this example we demonstrate  the use of default properties and also binding to an instant of an object which is part of a collection bound to its container. this is actually not as complicated as it sounds. First of all, lets take a look at our Employee class notice we have overridden the ToString method, which will return employees First name , last name and employee number in parentheses, public override string ToString()        {            return String.Format("{0} {1} ({2})", FirstName, LastName, EmployeeNumber);        }   in our XAML we have set the itemsource of the list box to just  “Binding” and the Grid that contains it, has its DataContext set to a collection of our Employee objects. DataContext="{StaticResource myEmployeeList}"> ….. <ListBox Name="employeeListBox"  ItemsSource="{Binding }" Grid.Row="0" /> the ToString in the method for each instance will get executed and the following is a result of it. if we did not have a ToString the list box would look  like this: now lets take a look at the grid that will display the details when someone clicks on an Item, the Grid has the following DataContext DataContext="{Binding ElementName=employeeListBox,            Path=SelectedItem}"> Which means its bound to a specific instance of the Employee object. and within the gird we have textboxes that are bound to different Properties of our class. <TextBox Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding Path=FirstName}" /> <TextBox Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding Path=LastName}" /> <TextBox Grid.Row="2" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding Path=Title}" /> <TextBox Grid.Row="3" Grid.Column="1" Text="{Binding Path=Department}" />   Example 05   This project demonstrates use of the ObservableCollection and INotifyPropertyChanged interface. Lets take a look at Employee.cs first, notice it implements the INotifyPropertyChanged interface now scroll down and notice for each setter there is a call to the OnPropertyChanged method, which basically will will fire up the event notifying to the value of that specific property has been changed. Next EmployeeList.cs notice it is an ObservableCollection . Go ahead and set the start up project to example 05 and then run. Click on Add a new employee and the new employee should appear in the list box.   Example 06   This is a great example of IValueConverter its actuall a two for one deal, like most of my presentation demos I found this by “Binging” ( formerly known as g---ing) unfortunately now I can’t find the original author to give him  the credit he/she deserves. Before we look at the code lets run the app and look at the finished product, put in 0 in Celsius  and you should see Fahrenheit textbox displaying to 32 degrees, I know this is calculating correctly from my elementary school science class , also note the color changed to blue, now put in 100 in Celsius which should give us 212 Fahrenheit but now the color is red indicating it is hot, and finally put in 75 Fahrenheit and you should see 23.88 for Celsius and the color now should be black. Basically IValueConverter allows us different types to be bound, I’m sure you have had problems in the past trying to bind to Date values . First look at FahrenheitToCelciusConverter.cs first notice it implements IValueConverter. IValueConverter has two methods Convert and ConvertBack. In each method we have the code for converting Fahrenheit to Celsius and vice Versa. In our XAML, after we set a reference in our Windows.Resources section. and for txtCelsius we set the path to TxtFahrenheit and the converter to an instance our FahrenheitToCelciusConverter converter. no need to repeat this for TxtFahrenheit since we have a convert and ConvertBack. Text="{Binding  UpdateSourceTrigger=PropertyChanged,            Path=Text,ElementName=txtFahrenheit,            Converter={StaticResource myTemperatureConverter}}" As mentioned earlier this is a twofer Demo, in the second demo, we basically are converting a double datatype to a brush. Lets take a look at TemperatureToColorConverter, notice we in our Covert Method, if the value is less than our cold temperature threshold we return a blue brush and if it is higher than our hot temperature threshold we return a redbrush. since we don’t have to convert a brush to double value in our example the convert back is not being implemented. Take time and go through these three examples and I hope you have a better understanding   of databinding, ObservableCollection  and IValueConverter . Next blog posting we will talk about ValidationRule, DataTemplates and DataTemplate triggers.
