  I am running Windows 8 on an SSD, and it's all running swimmingly, but I want to put my documents on a "normal" HD running under RAID 1. I have four SATA 3GB/s ports on my motherboard (my Windows 8 SSD drive in on a different 6GB/s controller). All four are used (1 Bluray Optical Drive, 1 Spare HD, and the 2 I wish to turn into a RAID 1 drive. In my BIOS I can only change settings for the entire controller, not just ports. So my question is: If I turn these four ports into a RAID controller, will that negatively affect the non-RAID hardware plugged into it? I.e. Will a HD or Bluray drive be slower/incompatible with being plugged into a non AHCI SATA port? Thanks.

( please see the below screen-shot for your reference ) Can you please guide, what problem can i face if i kept my configuration in this way. but i am wondering, can this setting can create a problem? because the computer will be able to reach corp.abc.com easily, with the help of host file.

Is it possible to achieve? My public server is a Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6 and the server can browse easily to the private server webpage. My private server is an Ubuntu 8.04 machine. This is what I probably need to setup: external_ip (tcp port 4444) -> DNAT -> 192.168.122.50 (tcp port 22) I know it's easily do'able using a SOHO router but can't figure out how can I do that on a Linux box.   I face a very strange symptom on my Acer Aspire laptop (with the factory default Win7 install and divers. Windows update running). After waking the computer from hibernation, it is a pain to type, since on average 5-10 keypresses are missing per 100 presses, using the laptop's keyboard. Steps to reproduce: 1) Power off 2) Power on, wait for system to become usable 3) Open notepad, for 5 times do hit 10x the same character. This gives a similar pattern of 50 chars total: xxxxxxxxxxyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaassssssssssdddddddddd 4) Optionally repeat. Everything is fine this far. 5) Hibernate. 6) Power on and resume. 7) Repeat steps 3)-4). This time approximately 3-5 character will be missing from each 50 characters. What I ruled out: putting to Sleep or just Locking and resuming from there does not cause problem battery / AC usage does not matter net connection does not matter running processes seem to be the same before and after hibernation key press speed doesn't really matter. For the test I use a nominal 3-5 strokes/second beat. plugging in an external USB keyboard works fine, but the built-in one still misbehaves What could be the problem? How could I diagnose if the keypresses arrive in, but get swallowed at some point? (maybe some nasty keyboard handler hook misbehaves?). Update: It seems that pushing the PowerSmart button and toggling to power saving state fixes the problem. Also, toggling it again back to the original state keeps it fixed. So this may be a fine workaround, but is not a conforming solution.

  I've got a server that I have admin access to, but don't fully manage. (I think it's a virtual machine, but I'm not 100% sure. It's running Apache on Windows Server 2003.) I share the ip with another user, so my sites all have to use the :8080 port. This is kind of ugly. Also, AFAIK, the only access I have is through an ip address. (I'm inside a corporate firewall and don't think I have access to a DNS server or anything.) I've adjusted my hosts file so I don't have to use the ip address on my local machine, but that's not a very generic solution. Are there any options to 1) get rid of the port requirement 2) be able to use a name (maybe a machine name) instead of the ip address in a generic way? (I'm not really a network admin -- I'm a developer managing this machine. The IT folks who really manage it are a few people away from me and tough to get to do anything, so I'm looking for a light-weight solution if possible.)

I need to include these photos in Shotwell photo manager at the time of mounting. So, I mounted them using CryptKeeper. Then I imported them to Shotwell. I made a new event and etc to organize and view those photos. After that I unmounted them using CryptKeeper because someone may see it. Now I don't want any single trail on Shotwell beacuse of the same problem. But there is a new button 'MissingFiles' appeared and when i clicked on it, all the photo thumbnail which i unmounted showed there. I dont't want right'click on them and select 'remove from library'; beacuse when i want to view them next time on Shotwell, I need to import, organize, etc at that time. So, the only option here is to disable the unavailability of that MisssingFiles button.

• Using Google Voice with an internal SIP Server

  Let me be upfront and say first that I am new to the entire details of VoIP. My former understanding was just the extent of Skype. Don't worry, I understand a lot more of it now. The situation is this. I have a Google number that is actually very close to the area in which I live. It's convenient as it is not long distance for everyone. I love its features and etc, but I want it to forward to a VoIP phone, which will be my residential phone. Obviously, Google does not allow forwarding calls to domains (yet). So I use SIPGate with a SIPGate number to forward to a softphone for now. I can configure a VoIP phone to interact with my account easily enough. The problem lies with SIPGate itself really. Google Voice gives free unlimited inbound and outbound calling. SIPGate charges you for outbound. So a VoIP phone would work, but I could never make a call on it (for free). So let's say I setup an Asterisk server, or any other SIP server. What is the best way to go about linking my server to Google Voice? I looked into IPKall but it only specifies inbound calling and not outbound. Or is that just assumed? Does an SIP server handle outbound calling by itself?

  I'm having a DNS issue. Server 2008 R2. The first clue was that after being off the network for a month, I could no longer Remote Desktop into my workstation by name, it wouldn't find it. Both via VPN and internally. But if I connect using its IP, that works. Now I notice in the server's Share and Storage Management, in Manage Sessions, it's displaying the incorrect computer name for some users. So I try, for one example: Ping -a 192.168.16.81 Pinging BOBS_COMPUTER.ourdomain.local [192.168.16.81] with 32 bytes of data: - replies all successful Then I try Ping RICHARDS_COMPUTER Pinging RICHARDS_COMPUTER.ourdomain.local [192.168.16.81] with 32 bytes of data: -all replies successful In DHCP, .81 belongs to RICHARDS_COMPUTER I did try flushdns. Not sure if this is related, apologies if it's not, but when I try to connect, I also get prompted: "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway? The remote computer could not be authenticated due to problems with its security certificate. It may be unsafe to proceed.." It then lists the correct name as the name in the certificate from the remote computer, but claims that the certificate is not from a trusted authority. Any thoughts are most appreciated!
