  • How to refresh linked tables in an Access mdb when ODBC changes

    I can create an Access mdb and add a linked table to an Sql Server database via ODBC. If I change the Sql Server that the ODBC is connecting to with the ODBC control panel applet the mdb still connects to the original Sql Server until Access is restarted. Is there a way to relink these linked server tables without restarting Access? EDIT: I would like to do this in code

    I just installed SQL 2008 Express and want to create an Access project (ADP). When I get to the Microsoft SQL Server Database Wizard in Access and after clicking on next to create the database I get this message: The new database wizard does not work with the version of Microsoft SQL Server to which you Access project is connected. See the Microsoft Update Web site for the latest information an downloads I can't find any solution to the problem so far. Any ideas why and how to solve this problem?

    asp website with access database freezes for 30-60 seconds intermittently. The site is on an internal 2008 server. About 25 users access the site simultaneously. Is it just the limits of access or can i do something to improve the situation? change any timeout/refresh settings anywhere? or could it be a problem with the network?

    I work with a team that has a sharepoint site currently runnning and its lists are linked to an access DB. My question is really on the investment level, what would be the reasons to upgrade DB to sharepoint if only a few 100 users access this site. Is there a real benefit to replacing the DB with a version of SQL Server, escpecially if about to replace Access 2002 with 2007 some day. I know SQL Server can handle more memory and traffic for more users, but I'm looking for more reasons than that if there are any.

  • Import OLE Object from Access to MySQL

    I have a table in an access table which contains Product entries, one of the columns has a jpg image stored as an OLE Object. I am trying to import this table to MySQL but nothing seems to work. I have tried the MySQL migration tool but that has a known issue with Access and OLE Objects. (The issue being it doesnt work and leaves the fields blank) I also tried the suggestion on this site and while the data is imported it seems as though the image is getting corrupted in the transfer. When i try to preview the image i just get a binary view, if i save it on disk as a jpg image and try to open it i get an error stating the image is corrupt. The images in Access are fine and can be previewed. Access is storing the data as an OLE Object and when i import it to MySql it is saved in a MediumBlob field. Has anyone had this issue before and how did they resolve it ?

High level requirements are Work on Windows and UNIX networks it has to be extremly performant it has to be 100% accuarate (massively) scalable and fun to write The sort of details I am after is manufacturer and versions of all major workstation hardware components such as motherboard, network card, sound card, hard drives, optical drives, memory, BIOS details, operating system information etc. I dont want to have to distribute a client on each workstation to collect the information although i will require automatic worksattion discovery I would value your thoughts on the best development language to employ I know there are products such as NEWT and stuff like nmap...     Hello, I am currently designing a low level network serialization protocol (in fact, a refinement of an existing protocol). As the work progress, pen and paper documents start to show their limits: i have tons of papers, new and outdated merged together, etc... And i can't show anything to anyone since i describe the protocol using my own notation (a mix of flow chart & C structures). I need a software that would help me to design a network protocol. I should be able to create structures, fields, their sizes, their layout, etc... and the software would generate some nice UMLish diagrams.

    Hi! I am having a hard time on this one, I have à folder over the network wit public accès (no credential restriction). I am trying to do à File.Exist or Directory.Exist and I keep on having a exception. Can somewone tell me the good way to do IO over the network. EDIT 1 FOR DETAILS: if i do execture = \agoodip\Public\test.txt I get the file etc etc In my code it look like a basic Directory.Exist(@"\agoodip\Public") or File.exist(@"\agoodip\Public\test.txt") The exception I get is Path not found.     I've searched stackoverflow all day long to find an answer without luck, so here we go. I'm trying to fetch data from the stream table like this: FQL: SELECT post_id, message, created_time FROM stream WHERE source_id = 131559313586863 URL: http:// graph.facebook.com/fql?q=SELECT+post_id%2C+message%2C+created_time+FROM+stream+WHERE+source_id+%3D+131559313586863&access_token=10669xxxxx74470|PF-7GSdBx0Nxxxxxkdi1KwSQG-w But I get a 400 Bad Request as response with the error message: "An access token is required to request this resource.". I'm fetching an application access token with this url: https:// graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?client_id=FACEBOOK_APP_ID&client_secret=FACEBOOK_APP_SECRET&grant_type=client_credentials Facebook state in this blog post that "You will need to pass a valid app or user access token to access this functionality.". Functionality refers to /feed and /posts (the stream table). Futhermore this wiki tells the same story about using the stream table, "From June 3 2011 a token is required to query this table. You can use any application or user token to make the query.". Does anyone see my hopefully obvious flaw? Please note: The profile in the FQL query is public. I need this to run userless though a cronjob. No user interaction is possible. The request works if I replace the app access token with my own user token from https:// developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer Sorry for breaking the URL's.     I have a process in an MS Acess database that the users will usually run once daily, but could be more or less. It takes several minutes and requires temporary exclusive access because it deletes and recreates the main table. I have code to check to see if there are other users in the db before the process starts, but is there a way to change the access to "exclusive" at the beginning, and then change it back to open access at the end?     I am developing a number of different mobile applications for a number of different mobile devices and I want to quickly test in a local development environment. I was wondering if it is possible (with some sort of hardware) to set up a local desktop CDMA / GSM base station for testing devices over a local personal cellular network. The range does not have to be very far. The alternative is purchasing a SIM card and plans for various carriers but not all carriers/network types are available in our area. I'm sure I had seen some sort of desktop device that would let you setup local networks for development/testing purposes but can't seem to find it. Thanks.

    If I've a class like this, class Sample { private: int X; }; Then we cannot access X from outside, so this is illegal, Sample s; s.X = 10; // error - private access But we can make it accessible without editing the class! All we need to do is this, #define private public //note this define! class Sample { private: int X; }; //outside code Sample s; s.X = 10; //no error! Working code at ideone : http://www.ideone.com/FaGpZ That means, we can change the access-specifiers by defining such macros just before the class definition, or before #include <headerfile.h>, #define public private //make public private //or #define protected private //make protected private //or #define so on Isn't it a problem with C++ (Macros/access-specifiers/whatever)? Anyway, the point of this topic is: Using macros, we can easily violate encapsulation. Access-specifiers are not foolproof! Am I right?

  • Importing Excel spreadsheet data into existing Access DB

    I've designed an Access 2003 DB with 3 tables: APPLICATIONS, SERVERS, and INSTALLATIONS. Records in the APPLICATIONS and SERVERS tables are uniquely identified by a synthetic primary key (in Access, an "auto number"). The INSTALLATIONS table is essentially a mapping table between APPLICATIONS and SERVERS: it's a list of records of which applications are installed on which servers. A record in the INSTALLATIONS table is also identified by a synthetic primary key, and it consists of an APPLICATION_ID and SERVER_ID for the records in their respective tables. I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet I would like to import into this database, but it's proving difficult. The spreadsheet is made up of several tabs/worksheets, each one representing a server with its own listing of installed applications. I'm not sure how to proceed with an import - the "Get External Data -- Import" feature in Access has an import "In an Existing Table" option, but it's greyed out. I'm also unsure how I build the relationships between applications and servers for importing records into the INSTALLATIONS table. I had previously fooled around with adding some security to the Access DB file. I think I removed everything but perhaps I didn't and that's causing the problem? Consider that i have an excel workbook and an access table not necessarily having a similar structure (i.e. They may not have same number of columns) When i open the workbook the rows in the excel sheet get populated by the rows in access table (copied from the access table into the excel sheet's particular range of cells specified using macros). Then i modify certain cells in the excel sheet. I also have a button called "Save" in the excel sheet. When pressed, this will execute a macro. My question how can i update the access table to reflect the changes in the excel sheet when the save button is clicked...? Thanks for your time and suggestions...!

    So I am in Excel trying to read the last saved metadata from an Access database, but I cannot figure out how on earth to do this. If I use environ$("username") it will give my the last saved information for the excel document where I am coding, not the access db that I want it to grab from. Excel has a built in function for grabbing username data, but I cannot find one for access. How can I do this?! Any help is greatly appreciated!

    i don't know if this is the standard way to do things, but i will need to take a text file and have it imported into access. i need access to be always looking (or every minute or so) in a folder, importing the text file, and then automatically printing a report is this possible? how do i have access look in a folder every couple of minutes and open a text file if it finds one?
