  • Program is not displaying output correctly

    - by Dave Lee
    My program is suppose to display information from a text file. The text file is here http://pastebin.com/qB6nX2x4 I cant find the problem in my program. I think it has to deal with the looping but im not sure. My program runs correctly but only displays the first line of text. Any help would be appreciated. #include <iostream> #include <string> #include <cstdlib> #include <fstream> using namespace std; int buildArrays(int A[],int B[],int C[]) { int i=0,num; ifstream inFile; inFile.open("candycrush.txt"); if(inFile.fail()) { cout<<"The candycrush.txt input file did not open"<<endl; exit(-1); } while(inFile) { inFile>>num; A[i]=num; inFile>>num; B[i]=num; inFile>>num; C[i]=num; i++; } inFile.close(); return i; } void printArrays( string reportTitle, int levelsArray[], int scoresArray[], int starsArray[], int numberOfLevels ) { cout<<endl; cout<<reportTitle<<endl; cout<<"Levels\tScores\tStars"<<endl; cout<<"---------------------"<<endl; for(int i=0;i<numberOfLevels;i++) { cout<<levelsArray[i]<<"\t"<<scoresArray[i]<<"\t"; for(int j=0;j<starsArray[j];j++) { cout<<"*"; } cout<<endl; } } void sortArrays( int levelsArray[], int scoresArray[], int starsArray[], int numberOfLevels ) { for(int i=0;i<numberOfLevels;i++) { for(int j=0;j<numberOfLevels;j++) { if(levelsArray[i]<levelsArray[j]) { int temp1=levelsArray[i]; int temp2=scoresArray[i]; int temp3=starsArray[i]; levelsArray[i]=levelsArray[j]; scoresArray[i]=scoresArray[j]; starsArray[i]=starsArray[j]; levelsArray[j]=temp1; scoresArray[j]=temp2; starsArray[j]=temp3; } } } } int main() { const int MAX=400; int levelsArray[MAX]; int scoresArray[MAX]; int starsArray[MAX]; int numberOfLevels=buildArrays(levelsArray,scoresArray,starsArray); printArrays( "Candy Crush UNSORTED Report", levelsArray, scoresArray, starsArray, numberOfLevels ); sortArrays( levelsArray, scoresArray, starsArray, numberOfLevels); printArrays( "Candy Crush SORTED Report", levelsArray, scoresArray, starsArray, numberOfLevels ); system("pause"); }

  • java client program to send digest authentication request using HttpClient API

    - by Rajesh
    I have restlet sample client program which sends the digest request. Similar to this I need java client program which sends a digest request using HttpClient api. Can anybody send me sample code. Thanks in advance. Reference reference = new Reference("http://localhost:8092/authenticate"); Client client = new Client(Protocol.HTTP); Request request = new Request(Method.GET, reference); Response response = client.handle(request); System.out.println("response: "+response.getStatus()); Form form = new Form(); form.add("username", "rajesh"); form.add("uri", reference.getPath()); // Loop over the challengeRequest objects sent by the server. for (ChallengeRequest challengeRequest : response .getChallengeRequests()) { // Get the data from the server's response. if (ChallengeScheme.HTTP_DIGEST .equals(challengeRequest.getScheme())) { Series<Parameter> params = challengeRequest.getParameters(); form.add(params.getFirst("nonce")); form.add(params.getFirst("realm")); form.add(params.getFirst("domain")); form.add(params.getFirst("algorithm")); form.add(params.getFirst("qop")); } } // Compute the required data String a1 = Engine.getInstance().toMd5( "rajesh" + ":" + form.getFirstValue("realm") + ":" + "rajesh"); String a2 = Engine.getInstance().toMd5( request.getMethod() + ":" + form.getFirstValue("uri")); form.add("response", Engine.getInstance().toMd5( a1 + ":" + form.getFirstValue("nonce") + ":" + a2)); ChallengeResponse challengeResponse = new ChallengeResponse( ChallengeScheme.HTTP_DIGEST, "", ""); challengeResponse.setCredentialComponents(form); // Send the completed request request.setChallengeResponse(challengeResponse); response = client.handle(request); // Should be 200.   • What's a good way to teach my son to program Java

    - by Software Monkey
    OK, so I've read through various posts about teaching beginner's to program, and there were some helpful things I will look at more closely. But what I want to know is whether there are any effective tools out there to teach a kid Java specifically? I want to teach him Java specifically because (a) with my strong background in C I feel that's too complex, (b) Java is the other language I know extremely well and therefore I can assist meaningfully without needing to teach myself a new but (to me) useless language, and (c) I feel that managed languages are the future, and lastly (d) Java is one of the simplest of all the languages I know well (aside from basic). I learned in basic, and I am open to teaching that first, but I am unaware of a decent free basic shell for Windows (though I haven't really searched, yet since it's not my first choice), and would anyway want to progress quickly to Java. My son is 8, so that's a couple of years earlier than I started - but he has expressed an interest in learning to program (possibly because I work from home a lot and he sees me programming all the time). If no-one can suggest a tool designed for this purpose, I will probably start him off with text/console based apps to teach the basics, and then progress to GUI building. Oh, one last thing, I am not a fan of IDE's (old school text editor type), so I would not be put off at all by a system that has him typing real code, and would likely prefer that to a toy drag/drop system. EDIT: Just to clarify; I really am specifically after ways to teach him Java; there are already a good many posts with good answers for other language alternatives - but that's not what I am looking for here. EDIT: What about Java frameworks for 2D video games - can anyone recommend any of them from personal experience? I like the idea of him starting with the mechanics in place (main game loop, scoring, etc) and adding the specifics for a game of his own imagining - that's what I did, though for me it was basic on a Commodore VIC-20 and a Sinclair ZX-81.

  • simple Stata program

    - by Cyrus S
    I am trying to write a simple program to combine coefficient and standard error estimates from a set of regression fits. I run, say, 5 regressions, and store the coefficient(s) and standard error(s) of interest into vectors (Stata matrix objects, actually). Then, I need to do the following: Find the mean value of the coefficient estimates. Combine the standard error estimates according to the formula suggested for combining results from "multiple imputation". The formula is the square root of the formula for "T" on page 6 of the following document: http://bit.ly/b05WX3 I have written Stata code that does this once, but I want to write this as a function (or "program", in Stata speak) that takes as arguments the vector (or matrix, if possible, to combine multiple estimates at once) of regression coefficient estimates and the vector (or matrix) of corresponding standard error estimates, and then generates 1 and 2 above. Here is the code that I wrote: (breg is a 1x5 vector of the regression coefficient estimates, and sereg is a 1x5 vector of the associated standard error estimates) mat ones = (1,1,1,1,1) mat bregmean = (1/5)*(ones*breg’) scalar bregmean_s = bregmean[1,1] mat seregmean = (1/5)*(ones*sereg’) mat seregbtv = (1/4)*(breg - bregmean#ones)* (breg - bregmean#ones)’ mat varregmi = (1/5)*(sereg*sereg’) + (1+(1/5))* seregbtv scalar varregmi_s = varregmi[1,1] scalar seregmi = sqrt(varregmi_s) disp bregmean_s disp seregmi This gives the right answer for a single instance. Any pointers would be great! UPDATE: I completed the code for combining estimates in a kXm matrix of coefficients/parameters (k is the number of parameters, m the number of imputations). Code can be found here: http://bit.ly/cXJRw1 Thanks to Tristan and Gabi for the pointers.

  • Loops on a Matlab program

    - by lebland-matlab
    I have 3 sets of 10 vectors each, and I want to take 2 vectors from the first set , 2 vectors from the second set and 3 vectors from the third set . My goal is to make a loop to implement the following program, knowing that after each calculation, the result shall be saved in a new file. My problem is that I can not handle the indices included in the strings. I try to use multiple loops to scan the 3 sets in the order of indices. loops should contain the following program clc; clear all; load('C:\Users\Documents\MATLAB\myFile\matrice_F.mat'); load('C:\Users\Documents\MATLAB\myFile\matrice_G.mat'); F = m_F; G = m_G; load('C:\Users\Documents\MATLAB\myFile\matrice_J.mat'); load('C:\Users\Documents\MATLAB\myFile\matrice_K.mat'); J = m_J; K = m_K; load('C:\Users\Documents\MATLAB\myFile\matrice_N.mat'); load('C:\Users\Documents\MATLAB\myFile\matrice_O.mat'); load('C:\Users\Documents\MATLAB\myFile\matrice_P.mat'); N = m_N ; O = m_O; P = m_P; [A,B,C,D,E] = myFun(F,G,J,K,N,O,P); file_name = 'matrice_final.mat'; save(file_name,'A','B','C','D','E');

  • In Java, send commands to another command-line program

    - by bradvido
    I am using Java on Windows XP and want to be able to send commands to another program such as telnet. I do not want to simply execute another program. I want to execute it, and then send it a sequence of commands once it's running. Here's my code of what I want to do, but it does not work: (If you uncomment and change the command to "cmd" it works as expected. Please help.) try { Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime(); String command = "telnet"; //command = "cmd"; Process pr = rt.exec(command); BufferedReader processOutput = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(pr.getInputStream())); BufferedWriter processInput = new BufferedWriter(new OutputStreamWriter(pr.getOutputStream())); String commandToSend = "open localhost\n"; //commandToSend = "dir\n" + "exit\n"; processInput.write(commandToSend); processInput.flush(); int lineCounter = 0; while(true) { String line = processOutput.readLine(); if(line == null) break; System.out.println(++lineCounter + ": " + line); } processInput.close(); processOutput.close(); pr.waitFor(); } catch(Exception x) { x.printStackTrace(); }

  • VERY simple C program won't compile with VC 64

    - by Paperflyer
    Here is a very simple C program: #include <stdio.h> int main (int argc, char *argv[]) { printf("sizeof(short) = %d\n",(int)sizeof(short)); printf("sizeof(int) = %d\n",(int)sizeof(int)); printf("sizeof(long) = %d\n",(int)sizeof(long)); printf("sizeof(long long) = %d\n",(int)sizeof(long long)); printf("sizeof(float) = %d\n",(int)sizeof(float)); printf("sizeof(double) = %d\n",(int)sizeof(double)); return 0; } While it compiles fine on Win32 (command line: cl main.c), it does not using the Win64 compiler ("c:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\bin\amd64\cl.exe" main.c). Specifically, it sais "error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol printf referenced in function main". As far as I understand this, it can not link to printf, right? Obviously, I have Microsoft Visual C++ Compiler 2008 (Standard enu) x86 and x64 installed and am using the 64-bit flavor of Windows (7). What is the problem here?

  • program that writes the even and odd numbers

    - by user292489
    enter code herei was writting a program that can read a set of numbers file called dog.txt; and also writes to two file separating odd and even. i was able to compile my program however, the output expected is not the same which was supposed to be even numbers in one file called EVEN, odd numbers in file odd. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int i; int even,odd; int num; if (argc != 4) { printf("Usage: executable in_file output_file\n"); exit(0); } FILE *dog = fopen(argv[1], "r"); FILE *feven= fopen(argv[2], "w"); FILE *fodd= fopen (argv[3], "w"); while (fscanf(dog, "%d", &num) != EOF) { if (0==i%2){ i++; printf("even= %d\n", num); } else if(i!=0){ i++; printf("odd= %d\n", num); } } fclose(feven); fclose(fodd); fclose(dog); return 0; } output: even= 1 odd= 2 even= 34 odd= 44 even= 66 odd= 78 even= 94 odd= 21 even= 23 odd= 54 even= 44 odd= 65 even= 78 odd= 68 even= 92

  • Time complexity of a certain program

    - by HokageSama
    In a discussion with my friend i am not able to predict correct and tight time complexity of a program. Program is as below. /* This Function reads input array "input" and update array "output" in such a way that B[i] = index value of nearest greater value from A[i], A[i+1] ... A[n], for all i belongs to [1, n] Time Complexity: ?? **/ void createNearestRightSidedLargestArr(int* input, int size, int* output){ if(!input || size < 1) return; //last element of output will always be zero, since no element is present on its right. output[size-1] = -1; int curr = size - 2; int trav; while(curr >= 0){ if(input[curr] < input[curr + 1]){ output[curr] = curr + 1; curr--; continue; } trav = curr + 1; while( input[ output [trav] ] < input[curr] && output [trav] != -1) trav = output[trav]; output[curr--] = output[trav]; } } I said time complexity is O(n^2) but my friend insists that this is not correct. What is the actual time complexity?

  • stack overflow problem in program

    - by Jay
    So I am currently getting a strange stack overflow exception when i try to run this program, which reads numbers from a list in a data/text file and inserts it into a binary search tree. The weird thing is that when the program works when I have a list of 4095 numbers in random order. However when i have a list of 4095 numbers in increasing order (so it makes a linear search tree), it throws a stack overflow message. The problem is not the static count variable because even when i removed it, and put t=new BinaryNode(x,1) it still gave a stack overflow exception. I tried debugging it, and it broke at if (t == NULL){ t = new BinaryNode(x,count); Here is the insert function. BinaryNode *BinarySearchTree::insert(int x, BinaryNode *t) { static long count=0; count++; if (t == NULL){ t = new BinaryNode(x,count); count=0; } else if (x < t->key){ t->left = insert(x, t->left); } else if (x > t->key){ t->right = insert(x, t->right); } else throw DuplicateItem(); return t; }

  • lnk2019 error in very simple c++ program

    - by Erin
    I have tried removing various parts and building, but nothing makes the lnk2019 error go away, or even produces any normal errors. Everything is in the one file at the moment (it won't be later when it is finished). The program has three lists of words and makes a jargon phrase out of them, and you are supposed to be able to add words, remove words, view the lists, restore defaults, save changes to file, and load changes from file. #include "stdafx.h" #include <iostream> #include <string.h> using namespace std; const int maxlist = 20; string adj1[maxlist], adj2[maxlist], noun[maxlist]; void defaultlist(int list) { if(list == 1) { adj1[0] = "green"; adj1[1] = "red"; adj1[2] = "yellow"; adj1[3] = "blue"; adj1[4] = "purple"; int i = 5; while(i != maxlist) { adj1[i] = ""; i = i + 1; } } if(list == 2) { adj2[0] = "shiny"; adj2[1] = "hard"; adj2[2] = "soft"; adj2[3] = "spiky"; adj2[4] = "furry"; int i = 5; while(i != maxlist) { adj2[i] = ""; i = i + 1; } } if(list == 3) { noun[0] = "cat"; noun[1] = "dog"; noun[2] = "desk"; noun[3] = "chair"; noun[4] = "door"; int i = 5; while(i != maxlist) { noun[i] = ""; i = i + 1; } } return; } void printlist(int list) { if(list == 1) { int i = 0; while(!(i == maxlist)) { cout << adj1[i] << endl; i = i + 1; } } if(list == 2) { int i = 0; while(!(i == maxlist)) { cout << adj2[i] << endl; i = i + 1; } } if(list == 3) { int i = 0; while(!(i == maxlist)) { cout << noun[i] << endl; i = i + 1; } } return; } string makephrase() { int num1 = rand()%maxlist; int num2 = rand()%maxlist; int num3 = rand()%maxlist; int num4 = rand()%1; string word1, word2, word3; if(num4 = 0) { word1 = adj1[num1]; word2 = adj2[num2]; } else { word1 = adj2[num1]; word2 = adj1[num2]; } word3 = noun[num3]; return word1 + " ," + word2 + " " + word3; } string addword(string word, int list) { string result; if(list == 1) { int i = 0; while(!(adj1[i] == "" || i == maxlist)) { i = i + 1; } if(i == maxlist) result = "List is full.   • Keep Hibernate Initializer from Crashing Program

    - by manyxcxi
    I have a Java program using a basic Hibernate session factory. I had an issue with a hibernate hbm.xml mapping file and it crashed my program even though I had the getSessionFactory() call in a try catch try { session = SessionFactoryUtil.getSessionFactory().openStatelessSession(); session.beginTransaction(); rh = getRunHistoryEntry(session); if(rh == null) { throw new Exception("No run history information found in the database for run id " + runId_ + "!"); } } catch(Exception ex) { logger.error("Error initializing hibernate"); } It still manages to break out of this try/catch and crash the main thread. How do I keep it from doing this? The main issue is I have a bunch of cleanup commands that NEED to be run before the main thread shuts down and need to be able to guarantee that even after a failure it still cleans up and goes down somewhat gracefully. The session factory looks like this: public class SessionFactoryUtil { private static final SessionFactory sessionFactory; static { try { // Create the SessionFactory from hibernate.cfg.xml sessionFactory = new Configuration().configure().buildSessionFactory(); } catch (Throwable ex) { // Make sure you log the exception, as it might be swallowed System.err.println("Initial SessionFactory creation failed." + ex); throw new ExceptionInInitializerError(ex); } } public static SessionFactory getSessionFactory() { try { return sessionFactory; } catch(Exception ex) { return null; } } }

  • How to learn how to program?

    - by twinbornJoint
    I would like to know the best methods for learning to program. I've been directed towards the Python language because I was told it is good for beginners. I ultimately want to make games for OS X/iPhone. My problem is that I understand what I read but I can't apply my knowledge to anything. I am a programming noob. Should I stick with Python? (is there a better language I should be learning?) Where can I learn programming theory? I get very hyper when reading my book sometimes, any tips on staying calm and focusing? What are effective ways to learn how to program? Are there standard exercises for programming? (I feel solving problems helps my understanding immensely) Ultimately I feel like I am in a never ending tunnel that leads me no where. It feels like I am just completely unable to pursue anything in the world of programming, yet it is something I want to do very much. Thanks.

  • Vector insert() causes program to crash

    - by wrongusername
    This is the first part of a function I have that's causing my program to crash: vector<Student> sortGPA(vector<Student> student) { vector<Student> sorted; Student test = student[0]; cout << "here\n"; sorted.insert(student.begin(), student[0]); cout << "it failed.\n"; ... It crashes right at the sorted part because I can see "here" on the screen but not "it failed." The following error message comes up: Debug Assertion Failed! (a long path here...) Expression: vector emplace iterator outside range For more information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts. I'm not sure what's causing the problem now, since I have a similar line of code elsewhere student.insert(student.begin() + position(temp, student), temp); that does not crash (where position returns an int and temp is another declaration of a struct Student). What can I do to resolve the problem, and how is the first insert different from the second one?

  • Programming time schedule for porting a program.

    - by Lothar
    I'm working on a large program which has an abstracted GUI API. It is very GUI based, many dialogs and a few nasty features which rely heavily on the message flow of the GUI (correct sequences of focus/mouse/active handling etc.) - not easy to port I now want to port it from the currently used FOX Toolkit to native Cocoa/MFC. I give myself a timeframe until the end of the year but my main work will be to continue development work with the existing toolkit, but there is no planned release for end customers before both tasks are done. My question is how should i spend my time? Stop working on the main program and do a 90% port (about 3 month) of the GUI first Splitting everything into smaller sessions of one month each. Assigning Monday/Tuesday to the GUI project and the rest of the week for the app. Finishing the App first, then port. I think there are three arguments which i need to balance. Motivation, i want to see something going on on both projects Brain Input Overflow, both tasks require a lot of detail information in my brain and sometimes enough is just enough. I guess the porting is intervowen so porting would also require a lot of code changes in the existing code and the new code that will be written in the meantime.

  • Program freezing when syncing a ldap database (100+ entries added)

    - by djerry
    Hey guys, I'm updating a ldap database. I need to add a list of users to the db. I've written a simple foreach loop. There are about 180 users i need to add, but at the 128th user, the program freezes. I know ldap is really used for querying (fast), and that adding and modifying entries will not go as smooth as a search query, but is it normal that the program freezes while doing this? I'll post some code just in case. public static void SyncLDAPWithMySql(Novell.Directory.Ldap.LdapConnection _conn) { List<User> users = GetUsers(); int iteller = 0; foreach (User user in users) { if (!UserAlreadyInLdap(user, _conn)) { TelUser teluser = new TelUser(); teluser.Telephone = user.E164; teluser.Uid = user.E164; teluser.Company = "/"; teluser.Dn = ""; teluser.Name = "/"; teluser.DisplayName = "/"; teluser.FirstName = "/"; TelephoneDA.InsertUser(_conn, teluser ); } Console.WriteLine(iteller + " : " + user.E164); iteller++; } } private static bool UserAlreadyInLdap(User user, Novell.Directory.Ldap.LdapConnection _conn) { List<TelUser> users = TelephoneDA.GetAllEntries(_conn); foreach (TelUser teluser in users) { if (teluser.Telephone.Equals(user.E164)) return true; } return false; } public static int InsertUser(LdapConnection conn, TelUser user) { int iResponse = IsTelNumberUnique(conn, user.Dn, user.Telephone); if (iResponse == 0) { LdapAttributeSet attrSet = MakeAttSet(user); string dnForPhonebook = configurationManager.AppSettings.Get("phonebookDn"); LdapEntry ent = new LdapEntry("uid=" + user.Uid + "," + dnforPhonebook, attrSet); try { conn.Add(ent); } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } } return iResponse; } Am i adding too many entries at a time??? Thanks in advance.

  • Python program to search for specific strings in hash values (coding help)

    - by Diego
    Trying to write a code that searches hash values for specific string's (input by user) and returns the hash if searchquery is present in that line. Doing this to kind of just learn python a bit more, but it could be a real world application used by an HR department to search a .csv resume database for specific words in each resume. I'd like this program to look through a .csv file that has three entries per line (id#;applicant name;resume text) I set it up so that it creates a hash, then created a string for the resume text hash entry, and am trying to use the .find() function to return the entire hash for each instance. What i'd like is if the word "gpa" is used as a search query and it is found in s['resumetext'] for three applicants(rows in .csv file), it prints the id, name, and resume for every row that has it.(All three applicants) As it is right now, my program prints the first row in the .csv file(print resume['id'], resume['name'], resume['resumetext']) no matter what the searchquery is, whether it's in the resumetext or not. lastly, are there better ways to doing this, by searching word documents, pdf's and .txt files in a folder for specific words using python (i've just started reading about the re module and am wondering if this may be the route, rather than putting everything in a .csv file.) def find_details(id2find): resumes_f=open("resume_data.csv") for each_line in resumes_f: s={} (s['id'], s['name'], s['resumetext']) = each_line.split(";") resumetext = str(s['resumetext']) if resumetext.find(id2find): return(s) else: print "No data matches your search query. Please try again" searchquery = raw_input("please enter your search term") resume = find_details(searchquery) if resume: print resume['id'], resume['name'], resume['resumetext']

  • Mathmatic errors in basic C++ program

    - by Heather
    I am working with a basic C++ program to determine the area and perimeter of a rectangle. My program works fine for whole numbers but falls apart when I use any number with a decimal. I get the impression that I am leaving something out, but since I'm a complete beginner, I have no idea what. Below is the source: #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { // Declared variables int length; // declares variable for length int width; // declares variable for width int area; // declares variable for area int perimeter; // declares variable for perimeter // Statements cout << "Enter the length and the width of the rectangle: "; // states what information to enter cin >> length >> width; // user input of length and width cout << endl; // closes the input area = length * width; // calculates area of rectangle perimeter = 2 * (length + width); //calculates perimeter of rectangle cout << "The area of the rectangle = " << area << " square units." <<endl; // displays the calculation of the area cout << "The perimeter of the rectangle = " << perimeter << " units." << endl; // displays the calculation of the perimeter system ("pause"); // REMOVE BEFORE RELEASE - testing purposes only return 0; }

  • write a program that prompts the user to input five decimal numbers

    - by user312309
    This is the question. write a program that prompts the user to input five decimal numbers. the program should then add the five decimal numbers, convert the sum to the nearest integer,m and print the result. This is what I've gotten so far: // p111n9.cpp : Defines the entry point for the console application. // #include <iostream> using namespace std; double a, b , c , d , e, f; int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { cout << "enter 5 decimals: " << endl; cin >> a >> b >> c >> d >> e; f = a + b + c + d + e; return 0; } Now I just need to convert the sum(f) to the nearest integer, m and print the result. How do I do this?

    Basically, I want a simple pushButton with a colorful text which when pressed exits the application. Why cant I press PushButton in this simple program. I am using QT 4.6 on Arch x86_64. #include <QtGui/QApplication> #include <QLabel> #include <QPushButton> #include<QtGui> int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { QApplication a(argc, argv); QMainWindow *Main=new QMainWindow; QPushButton *button = new QPushButton(Main); QLabel *label = new QLabel(Main); label->setText("<h2><i>Hello</i> ""<font color=red>Qt!</font></h2>"); label->setVisible(true); QObject::connect(button, SIGNAL(clicked()),label, SLOT(clear())); label->setAlignment(Qt::AlignCenter|Qt::AlignVCenter); label->setWindowTitle("HelloWorld Test Program"); Main->show(); return a.exec(); }

  • Strange things appear on running the program

    - by FILIaS
    Hey! I'm fixing a program but I'm facing a problem and I cant really realize what's the wrong on the code. I would appreciate any help. I didnt post all the code...but i think with this part you can get an idea of it. With the following function enter() I wanna add user commands' datas to a list. eg. user give the command: "enter james bond 007 gun" 'james' is supposed to be the name, 'bond' the surname, 007 the amount and the rest is the description. I use strtok in order to 'cut' the command,then i put each name on a temp array. Then i call InsertSort in order to put the datas on a linked list but in alphabetical order depending on the surname that users give. I wanna keep the list on order and put each time the elements on the right position. /* struct for all the datas that user enters on file*/ typedef struct catalog { char short_name[50]; char surname[50]; signed int amount; char description[1000]; struct catalog *next; }catalog,*catalogPointer; catalogPointer current; catalogPointer head = NULL; void enter(void)//user command: enter <name> <surname> <amount> <description> { int n,j=2,k=0; char temp[1500]; char command[1500]; while (command[j]!=' ' && command[j]!='\0') { temp[k]=command[j]; j++; k++; } temp[k]='\0'; char *curToken = strtok(temp," "); printf("temp is:%s \n",temp); char short_name[50],surname[50],description[1000]; signed int amount; //short_name=(char *)malloc(sizeof (char *)); //surname=(char *)malloc(sizeof (char *)); //description=(char *)malloc(sizeof (char *)); //amount=(int *)malloc(sizeof (int *)); printf("\nWhat you entered for saving:\n"); for (n = 0; curToken !='\0'; ++n) { if (curToken) { strncpy(short_name, curToken, sizeof (char *)); / } printf("Short Name: %s \n",short_name); curToken = strtok(NULL," "); if (curToken) strncpy(surname, curToken, sizeof (char *)); / printf("SurName: %s \n",surname); curToken = strtok(NULL," "); if (curToken) { char *chk; amount = (int) strtol(curToken, &chk, 10); if (!isspace(*chk) && *chk != 0) fprintf(stderr,"Warning: expected integer value for amount, received %s instead\n",curToken); } printf("Amount: %d \n",amount); curToken = strtok(NULL,"\0"); if (curToken) { strncpy(description, curToken, sizeof (char *)); } printf("Description: %s \n",description); break; } if (findEntryExists(head, surname) != NULL) printf("\nAn entry for <%s %s> is already in the catalog!\nNew entry not entered.\n",short_name,surname); else { printf("\nTry to entry <%s %s %d %s> in the catalog list!\n",short_name,surname,amount,description); InsertSort(&head,short_name, surname, amount, description); printf("\n**Entry done!**\n"); } // Maintain the list in alphabetical order by surname. } /********Uses special case code for the head end********/ void SortedInsert(catalog** headRef, catalogPointer newNode,char short_name[],char surname[],signed int amount,char description[]) { strcpy(newNode->short_name, short_name); strcpy(newNode->surname, surname); newNode->amount=amount; strcpy(newNode->description, description); // Special case for the head end if (*headRef == NULL||(*headRef)->surname >= newNode->surname) { newNode->next = *headRef; *headRef = newNode; } else { // Locate the node before the point of insertion catalogPointer current = *headRef; catalogPointer temp=current->next; while ( temp!=NULL ) { if(strcmp(temp->surname,newNode->surname)<0 ) current = temp; } newNode->next = temp; temp = newNode; } } // Given a list, change it to be in sorted order (using SortedInsert()). void InsertSort(catalog** headRef,char short_name[],char surname[],signed int amount,char description[]) { catalogPointer result = NULL; // build the answer here catalogPointer current = *headRef; // iterate over the original list catalogPointer next; while (current!=NULL) { next = current->next; // tricky - note the next pointer before we change it SortedInsert(&result,current,short_name,surname,amount,description); current = next; } *headRef = result; } Running the program I get these strange things (garbage?)... Choose your selection: enter james bond 007 gun Your command is: enter james bond 007 gun temp is:james What you entered for saving: Short Name: james SurName: Amount: 0 Description: 0T?? Try to entry james 0 0T?? in the catalog list! Entry done! Also I'm facing a problem on how to use the 'malloc' on this program. Thanks in advance. . .

  • Elapsed time of running a C program

    - by yCalleecharan
    Hi, I would like to know what lines of C code to add to a program so that it tells me the total time that the program takes to run. I guess there should be counter initialization near the beginning of main and one after the main function ends. Is the right header clock.h? Thanks a lot... Update I have a Win Xp machine. Is it just adding clock() at the beginning and another clock() at the end of the program? Then I can estimate the time difference. Yes, you're right it's time.h. Here's my code: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <math.h> #include <share.h> #include <time.h> void f(long double fb[], long double fA, long double fB); int main() { clock_t start, end; start = clock(); const int ARRAY_SIZE = 11; long double* z = (long double*) malloc(sizeof (long double) * ARRAY_SIZE); int i; long double A, B; if (z == NULL) { printf("Out of memory\n"); exit(-1); } A = 0.5; B = 2; for (i = 0; i < ARRAY_SIZE; i++) { z[i] = 0; } z[1] = 5; f(z, A, B); for (i = 0; i < ARRAY_SIZE; i++) printf("z is %.16Le\n", z[i]); free(z); z = NULL; end = clock(); printf("Took %ld ticks\n", end-start); printf("Took %f seconds\n", (double)(end-start)/CLOCKS_PER_SEC); return 0; } void f(long double fb[], long double fA, long double fB) { fb[0] = fb[1]* fA; fb[1] = fb[1] - 1; return; } Some errors with MVS2008: testim.c(16) : error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before 'const' testim.c(18) :error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before 'type' testim.c(20) :error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before 'type' testim.c(21) :error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before 'type' testim.c(23) :error C2065: 'z' : undeclared identifier testim.c(23) :warning C4047: '==' : 'int' differs in levels of indirection from 'void *' testim.c(28) : error C2065: 'A' : undeclared identifier testim.c(28) : warning C4244: '=' : conversion from 'double' to 'int', possible loss of data and it goes to 28 errors. Note that I don't have any errors/warnings without your clock codes. LATEST NEWS: I unfortunately didn't get a good reply here. But after a search on Google, the code is working. Here it is: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <math.h> #include <share.h> #include <time.h> void f(long double fb[], long double fA, long double fB); int main() { clock_t start = clock(); const int ARRAY_SIZE = 11; long double* z = (long double*) malloc(sizeof (long double) * ARRAY_SIZE); int i; long double A, B; if (z == NULL) { printf("Out of memory\n"); exit(-1); } A = 0.5; B = 2; for (i = 0; i < ARRAY_SIZE; i++) { z[i] = 0; } z[1] = 5; f(z, A, B); for (i = 0; i < ARRAY_SIZE; i++) printf("z is %.16Le\n", z[i]); free(z); z = NULL; printf("Took %f seconds\n", ((double)clock()-start)/CLOCKS_PER_SEC); return 0; } void f(long double fb[], long double fA, long double fB) { fb[0] = fb[1]* fA; fb[1] = fb[1] - 1; return; } Cheers

  • String Vector program exits before input

    - by kylepayne
    So, I have a project that must add, delete, and print the contents of a vector... the problem is that, when run the program exits before I can type in the string to add to the vector. I commented the function that that portion is in. Thanks! #include <iostream> #include <cstdlib> #include <vector> #include <string> using namespace std; void menu(); void addvector(vector<string>& vec); void subvector(vector<string>& vec); void vectorsize(const vector<string>& vec); void printvec(const vector<string>& vec); void printvec_bw(const vector<string>& vec); int main() { vector<string> svector; menu(); return 0; } //functions definitions void menu() { vector<string> svector; int choice = 0; cout << "Thanks for using this program! \n" << "Enter 1 to add a string to the vector \n" << "Enter 2 to remove the last string from the vector \n" << "Enter 3 to print the vector size \n" << "Enter 4 to print the contents of the vector \n" << "Enter 5 ----------------------------------- backwards \n" << "Enter 6 to end the program \n"; cin >> choice; switch(choice) { case 1: addvector(svector); break; case 2: subvector(svector); break; case 3: vectorsize(svector); break; case 4: printvec(svector); break; case 5: printvec_bw(svector); break; case 6: exit(1); default: cout << "not a valid choice \n"; // menu is structured so that all other functions are called from it. } } void addvector(vector<string>& vec) { string line; int i = 0; cout << "Enter the string please \n"; getline(cin, line); // doesn't prompt for input! vec.push_back(line); } void subvector(vector<string>& vec) { vec.pop_back(); return; } void vectorsize(const vector<string>& vec) { if (vec.empty()) { cout << "vector is empty"; } else { cout << vec.size() << endl; } return; } void printvec(const vector<string>& vec) { for(int i = 0; i < vec.size(); i++) { cout << vec[i] << endl; } return; } void printvec_bw(const vector<string>& vec) { for(int i = vec.size(); i > 0; i--) { cout << vec[i] << endl; } return; }
