  • Why will Google Analytics not allow our URL?

    In Google Analytics we're trying to add a property for each website of a WordPress multisite network. It works well for all of the sub-site but one. In the Default URL field we used the following: www.mywebsite.no/ - works www.mywebsite.no/nurse - works, as does a few other sub-sites www.mywebsite.no/doctor - doesn't work In the last case we get the following error: Value is not a valid domain. (e.g. example.com, www.example.com) We can't change the name of the sub-site but GA just won't accept the URL. Why is this and what can we do to solve this?

    I just took over the webmaster position in my organization, and I'm trying to set up a development environment separate from the production environment. The two environments are hosted with different companies, both on shared hosting plans. Right now, production is at domain.com and development is at domain2.com What I want is to direct my development team to dev.domain.com More importantly, I don't want the URL to change from dev.domain.com back to domain2.com, but I also be responsive to page changes. For example, if my dev team navigates from dev.domain.com to a page (called "page"), I'd like the URL to show as dev.domain.com/page Is this possible, or am I just dreaming?

    Redirect has been widely discussed and most problems solved, so I am sorry for opening yet another post about this, but none of the codes I am trying work. I have a WordPress site hosted in http://mydomain.com/clientsdomain.com/wordpress I would like to temporarily redirect http://clientsdomain.com/ to the abovementioned URL, maintaining the clientsdomain.com domain in the URL. So for example http://clientsdomain.com/some/page would be pointing to http://mydomain.com/clientsdomain.com/wordpress/some/page Is this even possible with .htaccess? Maybe som configuration or plugin option with WordPress?

But my problem is I want to consider the second parameter as a querystring for my pages. But I could not get the second parameter in my file. I tried with $wgrequest function but it is only giving the first parameter as title. I tried with $_REQUEST also, it is sometimes give the value of $_REQUEST['actions']. But many times not. I cant understand what is the problem.

  • Googlebot requesting invalid url

    I have a web app which emails me exceptions automatically. This morning there was an error relating to a url: /Catalog/LiveCatalog?id=ylwpfqzts id is invalid (should be a guid) and caused an error parsing. Everything was handled correctly, and an error page is returned. But what was odd is that the user-agent reported itself as Googlebot and the IP is registered to Google. The URL would never have been generated by my web app but doesn't look particularly malicious. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

    Hi fellow Facebook developers. I've got a question regarding the Facebook like button. We worked on a piece recently that embeds a number of social share buttons (please see the source code below or here on Harvey Water Softeners' website) When the piece was released, it was on HTTP, and received over 2k likes (the URL 'slug' hasn't changed at all). The site was recently migrated to permanent-on HTTPS, and the like data has been reset, and we've been left with 50 new, recent likes. If you see in the source code, the URL is set explicitly to like the HTTP version, which I believe to be correct. Can anyone help me work out what's happened here?     I think I am going to use Google spreadsheets and an embedded form. I see that it is possible to pre-populate the fields with URL parameters. So I think I just need a way to redirect with the correct data from a database when a user goes to their Personalized URL. I have no idea how to do the second part. Or if it is even the best way to do it. How do I set up Personalized URLS? How do I redirect from those URLS to the spreadsheets? Is this even the best method for pre-filled forms?

    I submitted my site's URL to my workplace's printed newsletter and when I get the printed version, they added a dot to the end of it. Some people will realize that the period is not a part of the url but others will not. Is there an easy way to redirect from http://example.com/home. to http://example.com/home? I have a IIS 7.0 shared hosting with GoDaddy. This means I have access to the box only through their interface so some options might be limited.

    The title of my question seems simple but here is an example of what I want to do: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infant-jaundice/DS00107 What happens on that page is whenever you click on a link to go a section (e.g. "Symptoms") in the article on "Infant Jaundice", it provides a URL parameter like this: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/infant-jaundice/DS00107/DSECTION=symptoms As the DESCTION parameter changes, you get different content on the same page DS00107. The content changes as well as <meta keywords>. Can someone please tell me how this is achieved? I was thinking it was an if/else situation programmed into the page itself to display different properties depending on the URL parameter. Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated and my thanks to you for reading my question.

I have a dilemma regarding the shared link structure: Option 1 - subdomains Use a questions.example.com and answers.example.com, followed by an ID and optional text. The text is ignored by the request, which only takes the id into account. http://questions.example.com/<question_id>/<question_text> http://questions.example.com/12345/how-long-is-the-queue # Example http://q.example.com/12345 # Example Option 2 - URL path This is the format used by stackoverflow.com and trello.com: http://example.com/questions/<question_id>/<question_text> http://example.com/questions12345/how-long-is-the-queue # Example http://example.com/q/12345 # Example Server-wise, I can easily do both - I have a wildcard SSL certificate and Apache/NGinx configuration is pretty straightforward.     At the moment non/semi sensitive information is sent from one page to another via GET on our web application. Such as user ID or page number requested etc. Sometimes slightly more sensitive information is passed such as account type, user privileges etc. We currently use base64_encode() and base64_decode() just to de-humanise the information so the end user is not concerned. Is it good practice or common place for a URL GET to be encrypted rather than simply PHP base64_encoded? Perhaps using something like, this: $encrypted = base64_encode(mcrypt_encrypt(MCRYPT_RIJNDAEL_256, md5($key), $string, MCRYPT_MODE_CBC, md5(md5($key)))); $decrypted = rtrim(mcrypt_decrypt(MCRYPT_RIJNDAEL_256, md5($key), base64_decode($encrypted), MCRYPT_MODE_CBC, md5(md5($key))), "\0"); Is this too much or too power hungry for something as common as the URL GET.

  • Possible to have ampersands ("&") in URL BEFORE the query string?

    My client is determined to have a page at /nfm&t so I made a directory named nfm&t with an index.html (to test) and that URL is still throwing a 404. So apparently it's not that easy. Any ideas? Or is there a way to just redirect nfm&t to nfmt, so that the URL at least resolves? This is a Windows server, by the way, which throws a wrench into how I'm used to doing redirects.
