Zlib compression in boost::iostreams not compatible with zlib.NET

Hello, I want to send compressed data between my C# to a C++ application in ZLIB format. In C++, I use the zlib_compressor/zlib_decompressor available in boost::iostreams. In C#, I am currently using the ZOutputStream available in the zlib.NET library. First of all, when I compress the same data using both libraries, the results look different: boost::iostreams::zlib_compressor: FF 13 49 48 00 00 01 00 01 00 00 00 63 61 60 60 F8 00 C4 C1 25 45 99 79 E9 23 87 04 00 zlib.NET (zlib.ZOutputStream): FF 13 49 48 00 00 01 00 01 00 00 00 78 9C 63 61 60 60 F8 00 C4 C1 25 45 99 79 E9 23 87 04 00 4F 31 63 8D (Note the 78 9C pattern that is present in zlib.NET, but not in boost). Furthermore, when I decompress data in boost that I compressed in zlib.NET, I am not able to read from the stream suggesting something is wrong. It does work when I try to decompress data compressed in boost. Does anybody know what is going wrong? Thank you, Johan

What is the best way to parse python script file in C/C++ code

I am embedding python in C/C++ program. What I am trying to do is to parse the python script file from the C/C++ program, break the file to "blocks" so that each "block" is an a valid command in python code. Each block I need to put into std::string. For example: #PythonScript.py import math print "Hello Python" i = 0; while (i < 10): print "i = " , i; i = i + 1; print "GoodBye Python" In this script are 5 different "blocks": the first one is "import math;" the second is "print "Hello Python;" the third is "i = 0;" and the fourth is while (i < 10):\n\tprint "i = " , i;\n\ti = i + 1; My knowledge in python is very basic and I am not familiar with the python code syntax. What is the best way to do this, is there any Python C/C++ API function that supports this? why i need it - for GUI purpose. My program , which is writen in C, uses python to make some calculations. I run from C code , using python C API , python script and what i need is a way to capture python's output in my program. I catch it and evrything is ok, the problem is when the script involves user input. What happens is that i capture python's output after the script is finished , therefore, when there is an input command in the script i get a black screen .... i need to get all the printings before the input command. The first solution i tried is to parss the script to valid commands and run each comand, one after the other , seperatly .... for this i need to pars the script and deside what is a command and what is not ... The question is : what is the best way to do this and if there is somthing that allready does ?

jQuery eval of ajax inline script not throwing errors

I'm currently putting together an app that has scripts that get loaded in with an ajax request. An example: var main = _main.get(); main.load( someurl ); Where someurl is a page that contains an inline script element: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function(){ var activities = new activities(); activities.init(); }); </script> jQuery will do a line by line eval of js that lives in inline script tags. The problem is, I get no errors or any information whatsoever in firebug when something goes awry. Does anyone have a good solution for this? Or a better practice for loading pages which contain javascript functionality? Edit: A little progress... so at the top of the page that is being loaded in via ajax, I have another script that was being included like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/pages/activities.js"></script> When I moved the inline $(document).ready() code in the page to the end of this included file, instead, syntax errors were now properly getting thrown. As an aside, I threw a console.log() into the inline script tag, and it was being logged just fine. I also tried removing the $(document).ready() altogether, and also switching it out for a $(window).load() event. No difference. May have something to do with the inline scripts dependency on the included activities.js, I guess. :: shakes head :: javascript can be a nightmare.

Uploadify and Image Compression

Hi, I am using Uploadify on one of my client's web sites to allow them to upload a large amount of pictures at once to their photo gallery. I am seeing issues lately. They seem to upload large photographs (3 MB and above). I am wondering, is it possible to compress (reduce their size) on the client side, instead of doing it on the server (just like facebook does it). I know I could easily do it on the server, but I am working on another project right now, where I am expecting a large flow of photo uploads. It would require significant amount of CPU time to process them all. So I thought, I'd ask about the client side processing. Thanks.

Great guide for JavaScript GZIP compression in IIS?

Hi there, we're looking to compress our gargantuan JavaScript files with GZip to speed up the page loads of our site. I know this can be done through IIS, but I can't seem to find a simple step-by-step guide on how to implement it. If someone could point me towards such a guide, I'd really appreciate it. I've never done this before, so it would need to be quite basic. We're running IIS7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Your time is much appreciated.

gunzip unexpected end of file

I like to write high volume data directly to a zip file via perl. Works like a champ! However, on some rare occasions I've found that gunzip can't uncompress them declaring an unexpected end-of-file. The thing is I can uncompress it with a simple perl script, which probably misses the corrupted record(s) at the end. My question is, does anyone know of a way to use a standard utility to do the same thing? Maybe with a 'compress-as-much-as-you-can' switch? -mark

Database Compression in Python

I have hourly logs like user1:joined user2:log out user1:added pic user1:added comment user3:joined I want to compress all the flat files down to one file. There are around 30 million users in the logs and I just want the latest user log for all the logs. My end result is I want to have a log look like user1:added comment user2:log out user3:joined Now my first attempt on a small scale was to just do a dict like log['user1'] = "added comment" Will doing a dict of 30 million key/val pairs have a giant memory footprint.. Or should I use something like sqllite to store them.. then just put the contents of the sqllite table back into a file?

Distributing cpu-bound compression jobs to multiple computers?

The other day I needed to archive a lot of data on our network and I was frustrated I had no immediate way to harness the power of multiple machines to speed-up the process. I understand that creating a distributed job management system is a leap from a command-line archiving tool. I'm now wondering what the simplest solution to this type of distributed performance scenario could be. Would a custom tool always be a requirement or are there ways to use standard utilities and somehow distribute their load transparently at a higher level? Thanks for any suggestions.

Compression Program in C

I want to compress a series of characters. For example if i type Input : FFFFFBBBBBBBCCBBBAABBGGGGGSSS (27 x 8 bits = 216 bits) Output: F5B7C2B3A2B2G5S3 (14 x 8 bits = 112bits) So far this is what i have, i can count the number of Characters in the Array. But the most important task is to count them in the same sequence. I can't seem to figure that out :( Ive stared doing C just a few weeks back, i have knowledge on Array, pointers, ASCII value but in any case can't seem to count these characters in a sequence. Ive try a bit of everything. Keep a Window on top with a handy AutoHotkey script

Are you tired of shuffling back and forth between windows to get your work done? Here’s a handy tool that lets you keep any window always on top when you need it. There are many ways to use multiple windows efficiently, but sometimes it seems you need to keep a smaller one in front of a larger window and they never quite fit right. Whether you’re trying to use Calculator and a web form at the same time, or see what music is playing while you’re catching up on your news, there’s many scenarios where it can be useful to keep one window always on top. There are many utilities to do this, but they are often needlessly complicated and bloated. Here we look at a better solution from Amit, our friend at Digital Inspiration. Always on Top Thanks to AutoHotkey, you can easily always keep any window on top of all the others on your screen. You can download this as a small exe and run it directly, or can create it with a simple script in AutoHotkey. For simplicity, we simply downloaded the application and ran it directly. To do this, download Always on Top (link below), and unzip the file. Once you’ve launched it, simply select the window you want to keep on top and press Ctrl+Space. This program will now stay in front, even when it is not the active window. Here’s a screenshot of a Hotmail signup dialog in Chrome with Notepad kept on top. Notice Notepad isn’t the active application, but it is still on top. If you wish to un-pin the window from being on top, simply select the window and press Ctrl+space again. You can keep multiple windows pinned at once, too, though you may clutter your desktop quickly! Always on Top will keep running in your system tray, and you can exit or suspend it by right-clicking on its tray icon and selecting exit or suspend, respectively. Script to UPDATE STATISTICS with time window

I recently spent some time troubleshooting odd query plans and came to the conclusion that we needed better statistics. We’ve been running sp_updatestats but apparently it wasn’t sampling enough of the table to get us what we needed. I have a pretty limited window at night where I can hammer the disks while this runs. The script below just calls UPDATE STATITICS on all tables that “need” updating. It defines need as any table whose statistics are older than the number of days you specify (30 by default). It also has a throttle so it breaks out of the loop after a set amount of time (60 minutes). That means it won’t start processing a new table after this time but it might take longer than this to finish what it’s doing. It always processes the oldest statistics first so it will eventually get to all of them. It defaults to sample 25% of the table. I’m not sure that’s a good default but it works for now. I’ve tested this in SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008. I liked the way Michelle parameterized her re-index script and I took the same approach. Do you want to assign this site?” The fix is quite simple given that you simply click the Add button below which opens up the Item Quantities Maintenance window which you will hit the save button and proceed with the entry of your Sales Order or Purchase Order. If you have a lot of new items into GP and have just one Site ID setup, the best approach to assigning your items to a particular site is by going to the Site Maintenance Window which is located in Cards>>Inventory>>Site. Once you are in the window below, you can click the Assign button to assign Items to the Site selected. However, if you have you a lot of Sites and Items created, this can be quite a cumbersome and time consuming process. Why is this rkhunter script sending empty emails?

I have started running rkhunter (a security monitoring tool) and I have finally managed to clear all of its warnings. Now, a cron job runs every day to monitor my machine. Rather than send me an email of warnings, it sends me an email with no body - which I don't really want. Looking at the (unedited, straight out of the box) /etc/cron.daily/rkhunter script, it contains this snippet of shell code: if [ -s "$OUTFILE" ]; then ( echo "Subject: [rkhunter] $(hostname -f) - Daily report" echo "To: $REPORT_EMAIL" echo "" cat $OUTFILE ) | /usr/sbin/sendmail $REPORT_EMAIL fi The -s clause should prevent empty emails from being sent, right? Does anyone have an explanation why this would still send empty emails?

SQL SERVER – Script to Find First Day of Current Month

Earlier I wrote a blog post about SQL SERVER – Query to Find First and Last Day of Current Month and it is a very popular post. In this post, I convert the datetime to Varchar and later on use it. However, SQL Expert Michael Usov has made a good point suggesting that it is not always a good idea to convert datetime to any other date format as it is quite possible that we may need it the value in the datetime format for other operation. He has suggested a very quick solution where we can get the first day of the current month with or without time value and keep them with datatype datetime. Debugging "Premature end of script headers" - WSGI/Django [migrated]

I have recently deployed an app to a shared host (webfaction), and for no apparent reason, my site will not load at all (it worked until today). It is a django app, but the django.log is not even created; the only clue is that in one of the logs, I get the error message: "Premature end of script headers", identifying my wsgi file as the source. I've tried to add logging to my wsgi file, but I can't find any log created for it. Is there any recommended way to debug this error? I am on the point of tearing my hair out. Linux Mint: How do I autorun rdp script?

HI to all my name is Rommel... I'm new to Linux system coz im more into windows, but now i wanna try Linux os. I have this Linux Mint and i installed it on to one of my desktop PC, i have downloaded and installed freerdp-x11 for me to connect into my windows terminal server...The thing that I really need help is, i want the terminal command line to connect automatically to the windows terminal server so that every time i boot my Linux Mint pc i wouldn't have to keep typing "xfreerdp 000.000.0.000" on the terminal command line...Is there a script for it..???? Why won't cron run my sh script?

Used gnome-schedule to create a script to set my headset as the fallback audio device because it keeps unsetting it when the headset gets disconnected or pc goes into sleep mode. Anyway, crontab is this: SHELL=/bin/sh PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/home/dmitry/bin * * * * * headsetfix /home/dmitry/bin/headsetfix is #!/bin/sh pacmd set-default-sink alsa_output.usb-Logitech_Inc_Logitech_USB_Headset_H540_00000000-00-H540.analog-stereo pacmd set-default-source alsa_input.usb-Logitech_Inc_Logitech_USB_Headset_H540_00000000-00-H540.analog-stereo It runs fine from the terminal. I've made sure it's chmodded to be executable, and "which headsetfix", run from cron, outputs "/home/dmitry/bin/headsetfix" so not sure what the problem is.

The new plugin provides some flags to help debug the browser side VM. Right-to-left script fails with Flash Player

I am continuing an abandoned thread arabic reading error, since it was not solved. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, Firefox 3.6.14. I've checked for Flash Player, I have the recent version installed. In the Flash Player window arabic script appears in wrong direction. The letters are displayed from left to right and not, as it should be, from right to left. For exemple http://www.fpnp.net/. The problematic place is the black bar in Flash window with a text below the image on the right. Here the letters are displayed in wrong direction and, by consequence, are not joined. You can see (I hope) the difference between that black bar and the rest of the text. Hope it will understandable for not Arabic-speaking people. Thanks
