  • Gmail rejects emails. Openspf.net fails the tests

    - by pablomedok
I've got a problem with Gmail. It started after one of our trojan infected PCs sent spam for one day from our IP address. We've fixed the problem, but we got into 3 black lists. We've fixed that, too. But still every time we send an email to Gmail the message is rejected: So I've checked Google Bulk Sender's guide once again and found an error in our SPF record and fixed it. Google says everything should become fine after some time, but this doesn't happen. 3 weeks already passed but we still can't send emails to Gmail. Our MX setup is a bit complex, but not too much: We have a domain name delo-company.com, it has it's own mail @delo-company.com (this one is fine, but the problems are with sub-domain name corp.delo-company.com). Delo-company.com domain has several DNS records for the subdomain: corp A 82.209.198.147 corp MX 20 corp.delo-company.com corp.delo-company.com TXT "v=spf1 ip4:82.209.198.147 ~all" (I set ~all for testing purposes only, it was -all before that) These records are for our corporate Exchange 2003 server at 82.209.198.147. Its LAN name is s2.corp.delo-company.com so its HELO/EHLO greetings are also s2.corp.delo-company.com. To pass EHLO check we've also created some records in delo-company.com's DNS: s2.corp A 82.209.198.147 s2.corp.delo-company.com TXT "v=spf1 ip4:82.209.198.147 ~all" As I understand SPF verifications should be passed in this way: Out server s2 connects to MX of the recepient (Rcp.MX): EHLO s2.corp.delo-company.com Rcp.MX says Ok, and makes SPF check of HELO/EHLO. It does NSlookup for s2.corp.delo-company.com and gets the above DNS-records. TXT records says that s2.corp.delo-company.com should be only from IP 82.209.198.147. So it should be passed. Then our s2 server says RCPT FROM: Rcp.MX` server checks it, too. The values are the same so they should also be positive. Maybe there is also a rDNS check, but I'm not sure what is checked HELO or RCPT FROM. Our PTR record for 82.209.198.147 is: 147.198.209.82.in-addr.arpa. 86400 IN PTR s2.corp.delo-company.com. To me everything looks fine, but anyway all emails are rejected by Gmail. So, I've checked MXtoolbox.com - it says everything is fine, I passed http://www.kitterman.com/spf/validate.html Python check, I did 25port.com email test. It's fine, too: Return-Path: <[email protected]> Received: from s2.corp.delo-company.com (82.209.198.147) by verifier.port25.com id ha45na11u9cs for <[email protected]>; Fri, 2 Mar 2012 13:03:21 -0500 (envelope-from <[email protected]>) Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com; spf=pass smtp[email protected] Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com; domainkeys=neutral (message not signed) [email protected] Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com; dkim=neutral (message not signed) Authentication-Results: verifier.port25.com; sender-id=pass [email protected] Content-class: urn:content-classes:message MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----_=_NextPart_001_01CCF89E.BE02A069" Subject: test Date: Fri, 2 Mar 2012 21:03:15 +0300 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.5 Message-ID: <[email protected]> X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: test Thread-Index: Acz4jS34oznvbyFQR4S5rXsNQFvTdg== From: =?koi8-r?B?89XQ0tXOwMsg8MHXxcw=?= <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> I also checked with [email protected], but it FAILs all the time, no matter which SPF records I make: <s2.corp.delo-company.com #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: SPF Tests: Mail-From Result="softfail": Mail From="[email protected]" HELO name="s2.corp.delo-company.com" HELO Result="softfail" Remote IP="82.209.198.147"> I've filled Gmail form twice, but nothing happens. We do not send spam, only emails for our clients. 2 or 3 times we did mass emails (like New Year Greetings and sales promos) from corp.delo-company.com addresses, but they where all complying to Gmail Bulk Sender's Guide (I mean SPF, Open Relays, Precedence: Bulk and Unsubscribe tags). So, this should be not a problem. Please, help me. What am I doing wrong? UPD: I also tried Unlocktheinbox.com test and the server also fails this test. Here is the result: http://bit.ly/wYr39h . • Postfix flow/hook reference, or high-level overview?

    - by threecheeseopera
The Postfix MTA consists of several components/services that work together to perform the different stages of delivery and receipt of mail; these include the smtp daemon, the pickup and cleanup processes, the queue manager, the smtp service, pipe/spawn/virtual/rewrite ... and others (including the possibility of custom components). Postfix also provides several types of hooks that allow it to integrate with external software, such as policy servers, filters, bounce handlers, loggers, and authentication mechanisms; these hooks can be connected to different components/stages of the delivery process, and can communicate via (at least) IPC, network, database, several types of flat files, or a predefined protocol (e.g. milter). An old and very limited example of this is shown at this page. My question: Does anyone have access to a resource that describes these hooks, the components/delivery stages that the hook can interact with, and the supported communication methods? Or, more likely, documentation of the various Postfix components and the hooks/methods that they support? For example: Given the requirement "if the recipient primary MX server matches 'shadysmtpd', check the recipient address against a list; if there is a match, terminate the SMTP connection without notice". My software would need to 1) integrate into the proper part of the SMTP process, 2) use some method to perform the address check (TCP map server? regular expressions? mysql?), and 3) implement the required action (connection termination). Additionally, there will probably be several methods to accomplish this, and another requirement would be to find that which best fits (ex: a network server might be faster than a flat-file lookup; or, if a large volume of mail might be affected by this check, it should be performed as early in the mail process as possible). Real-world example: The apolicy policy server (performs checks on addresses according to user-defined rules) is designed as a standalone TCP server that hooks into Postfix inside the smtpd component via the directive 'check_policy_service inet:127.0.0.1:10001' in the 'smtpd_client_restrictions' configuration option. This means that, when Postfix first receives an item of mail to be delivered, it will create a TCP connection to the policy server address:port for the purpose of determining if the client is allowed to send mail from this server (in addition to whatever other restrictions / restriction lookup methods are defined in that option); the proper action will be taken based on the server's response. Notes: 1)The Postfix architecture page describes some of this information in ascii art; what I am hoping for is distilled, condensed, reference material. 2) Please correct me if I am wrong on any level; there is a mountain of material, and I am just one man ;) Thanks!

  • Hybrid gmail MX + postfix for local accounts

    - by krunk
Here's the setup: We have a domain, mydomain.com. Everything is on our own server, except general email accounts which are through gmail. Currently gmail is set as the MX record. The server also has various email aliases it needs to support for bug trackers and such. e.g. [email protected] |/path/to/issuetracker.script I'm struggling with a setup that allows the following, both locally and from user's email clients. guser1 - has a gmail account and a local account guser2 - only has a gmail account bugs - has a pipe alias in /etc/aliases for issue tracker Scenarios mail to [email protected] from local host (crons and such) needs to go to gmail account mail to [email protected] from local host mail to [email protected] needs to be piped to the local issue tracker script So, the first stab was creating a transport map. In this scenario, the our server would be set as teh MX and guser* destined emails are sent to gmail. Put the gmail users in a map like so: [email protected] smtp:gmailsmtp:25 [email protected] smtp:gmailsmtp:25 Problems: Ignores extensions such as [email protected] Only works if append_at_myorigin = no (if set to yes, gmail refuses to connect with: E4C7E3E09BA3: to=, relay=none, delay=0.05, delays=0.02/0.01/0.02/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com[209.85.222.57]:25: Connection refused)) since append_at_myorigin is set to no, all received emails have (unknown sender) The second stab was to set explicit localhost aliases in /etc/aliases and do a domain wide forward on mydomain. This too requires setting the local server as the MX: root: root@localhost # transport mydomain.com smtp:gmailsmtp:25 Problems: * If I create a transport map for a domain that matches "$myhostname", the aliases file is never parsed. So when a local user (or daemon) sends an email like: mail -s "testing" root < text.txt Postfix ignores the /etc/alias entry and maps to [email protected] and attempts to send it to the gmail transport mapping. Third stab: Create a subdomain for the bugs, something like bugs.mydomain.com. Set the MX for this domain to local server and leave the MX for mydomain.com to the Gmail server. Problems: * Does not solve the issue with local accounts. So when the bug tracker responds to an email from [email protected], it uses a local transport and the user never receives the email. % postconf -n alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases append_at_myorigin = no append_dot_mydomain = no biff = no config_directory = /etc/postfix inet_interfaces = all mailbox_command = procmail -a "$EXTENSION" mailbox_size_limit = 0 mydestination = $myhostname, localhost.$myhostname, localhost myhostname = mydomain.com mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8 [::ffff:127.0.0.0]/104 [::1]/128 myorigin = /etc/mailname readme_directory = no recipient_delimiter = + relayhost = smtp_tls_cert_file = /etc/ssl/certs/kspace.pem smtp_tls_enforce_peername = no smtp_tls_key_file = /etc/ssl/certs/kspace.pem smtp_tls_note_starttls_offer = yes smtp_tls_scert_verifydepth = 5 smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtp_scache smtp_use_tls = yes smtpd_banner = $myhostname ESMTP $mail_name (Debian/GNU) smtpd_recipient_restrictions = permit_mynetworks, reject_invalid_hostname, reject_non_fqdn_sender, reject_non_fqdn_recipient, reject_unknown_sender_domain, reject_unknown_recipient_domain, reject_unauth_destination smtpd_tls_ask_ccert = yes smtpd_tls_req_ccert = no smtpd_tls_session_cache_database = btree:${data_directory}/smtpd_scache tls_random_source = dev:/dev/urandom transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport

  • How can I change exim's DKIM and SPF for emails sent?

    - by 0pt1m1z3
I've now spent 2 hours trying to figure out this issue and I am about to give up and go to bed. I've been having issues with Gmail rejecting emails from my VPS server because of false spam alerts (probably caused by lfd sending too many emails). So I changed my Exim config to send emails from a different IP (my VPS comes with 3) and that fixed the issue. I also enabled DKIM and SPF on my domains for added measure. But now, all my emails appear as ("From: Sender Name via server.domain1.com") where server.domain1.com is my VPS hostname. I previously had the same issue in Outlook and turning off "Set SMTP Sender: headers" solved that problem. But I believe adding the DKIM and SPF now makes Gmail add "via server.domain1.com" to my messages. How do I fix this? This is a typical header for a message (as it appears at gmail): Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: by 10.60.44.163 with SMTP id f3csp248622oem; Thu, 29 Mar 2012 21:23:18 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.50.106.200 with SMTP id gw8mr452788igb.10.1333081398523; Thu, 29 Mar 2012 21:23:18 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: <[email protected]> Received: from domain2.com ([X.X.X.X]) by mx.google.com with ESMTPS id y1si810998igb.3.2012.03.29.21.23.18 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=OTHER); Thu, 29 Mar 2012 21:23:18 -0700 (PDT) Received-SPF: pass (google.com: domain of [email protected] designates X.X.X.X as permitted sender) client-ip=X.X.X.X; Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: domain of [email protected] designates X.X.X.X as permitted sender) smtp[email protected]; dkim=pass [email protected] DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=server.domain1.com; s=default; h=Date:Message-Id:From:Content-type:MIME-Version:Subject:To; bh=wF8bBRgh01EYg4t5DAeVPv1Ps906UVIeRnQCb/HvSYw=; b=k/Pg7lnrO+Ud/z1mOTv+O/3DiJzzQgyBhfIizIaFHM8tF/eNJt5P2k+9yQB224sxYstZIWwVRBJmiqvcM1QhARv1HWqWma0crppZ3JOn+LRHANan634OBi+58SIRA+gu; Received: (Exim 4.77) id 1SDTVE-0005HA-9Y for [email protected]; Fri, 30 Mar 2012 00:31:56 -0400 To: [email protected] Subject: Password Reset Request MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 From: Sender Name <[email protected]> Message-Id: <[email protected]> Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2012 00:31:56 -0400 X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: Primary Hostname - server.domain1.com X-AntiAbuse: Original Domain - domain2.com X-AntiAbuse: Originator/Caller UID/GID - [507 504] / [47 12] X-AntiAbuse: Sender Address Domain - server.domain1.com

  • Using OpenNMS, how can I disable notifications for a particular service and server

    - by Ricardo Reyes
We are using OpenNMS to monitor a pool of servers, and we have a problem with SMTP in one particular box. OpenNMS is "spamming" us all the time with DOWN/RESOLVED messages for that particular service in that server, and I wanted to mute those notifications momentarely but couldn't find how to do that. I know that I can disable ALL notifications or disable SMTP in ALL servers, but that's not what I want. I'm used to muting a particular service in Nagios, but is it possible in OpenNMS?

  • Cannot send email to info@ or support@

    - by user3022598
I am trying to send email from my gmail account to a couple user accounts I have on my new Centos server. The email is setup correctly and I can send receive from accounts ok except info and support. I tried to setup two users "info" and "support" I have a php form that sends out email that works fine for all users except info and support. To test this and make sure that something did not change from yesterday i just created a new user "frank" and tried the submit form and it worked fine. From my gmail account i can email "frank" however i cannot email "info" or "support" The logs I pulled are as follows and i think i see the issue but no idea how to fix it. This is a typical header for a message (as it appears at gmail): Delivered-To: [email protected] Received: by 10.60.44.163 with SMTP id f3csp248622oem; Thu, 29 Mar 2012 21:23:18 -0700 (PDT) Received: by 10.50.106.200 with SMTP id gw8mr452788igb.10.1333081398523; Thu, 29 Mar 2012 21:23:18 -0700 (PDT) Return-Path: <[email protected]> Received: from domain2.com ([X.X.X.X]) by mx.google.com with ESMTPS id y1si810998igb.3.2012.03.29.21.23.18 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=OTHER); Thu, 29 Mar 2012 21:23:18 -0700 (PDT) Received-SPF: pass (google.com: domain of [email protected] designates X.X.X.X as permitted sender) client-ip=X.X.X.X; Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: domain of [email protected] designates X.X.X.X as permitted sender) smtp[email protected]; dkim=pass [email protected] DKIM-Signature: v=1; a=rsa-sha256; q=dns/txt; c=relaxed/relaxed; d=server.domain1.com; s=default; h=Date:Message-Id:From:Content-type:MIME-Version:Subject:To; bh=wF8bBRgh01EYg4t5DAeVPv1Ps906UVIeRnQCb/HvSYw=; b=k/Pg7lnrO+Ud/z1mOTv+O/3DiJzzQgyBhfIizIaFHM8tF/eNJt5P2k+9yQB224sxYstZIWwVRBJmiqvcM1QhARv1HWqWma0crppZ3JOn+LRHANan634OBi+58SIRA+gu; Received: (Exim 4.77) id 1SDTVE-0005HA-9Y for [email protected]; Fri, 30 Mar 2012 00:31:56 -0400 To: [email protected] Subject: Password Reset Request MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 From: Sender Name <[email protected]> Message-Id: <[email protected]> Date: Fri, 30 Mar 2012 00:31:56 -0400 X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: Primary Hostname - server.domain1.com X-AntiAbuse: Original Domain - domain2.com X-AntiAbuse: Originator/Caller UID/GID - [507 504] / [47 12] X-AntiAbuse: Sender Address Domain - server.domain1.com

  • apt: how to search using package tags?

  • troubleshooting postifx -> exchange connection issues

    - by Systemspoet
I have three linux-based mail routers that run postfix and relay mail to our on-premise exchange server as well as to outlook.com, splitting the mail based on ldap atttributes. What I've observed sporadically since upgrading this spring from Exchange 2007 to 2010 is that all three of the mail relays will, for about 20 minutes, fail to connect to exchange. Postfix logs it as "lost connection with exchange.contosso.edu" ; this problem almost always occurs to all three mail relays at the same time, and lasts for slightly under 20 minutes. If I can catch it while it's occuring, and I manually do "telnet exchange.contosso.edu 25" from one mail relay and force a message through (helo, mail from, rcpt to, data, etc), then it clears that relay up. The exchange "server" is actually two machines with the HT role on them, load balanced via windows NLB. I've worked pretty hard to figure out what's happening from the postfix side and I can't see any evidence of any misbehavior. My question is, how do I attack the problem from the exchange side? Is there a connection log, or a debug setting, or something I can do to log all of the inbound connections and tell me what's causing exchange to drop them?

  • OpenAM Membership module does not notify admin of new inactive accounts

    - by Eric Axley
I am using OpenAM to authenticate users and OpenDJ as the user directory. I have enabled the membership module that allows users to self register, but I have not found any way to notify the admin that a new account needs to be approved. This seems like something that would just be a matter of entering an admin email and configuring smtp, but I have not found anywhere to enter an email address to receive these notifications. Though I have been able to send "password reset" emails so smtp is working at least.

Hi, Today I needed to send email from a Python script. As always I searched Google and found the following script that fits to my need. import smtplib SERVER = "localhost" FROM = "[email protected]" TO = ["[email protected]"] # must be a list SUBJECT = "Hello!" • How do I send signed emails from ActionMailer?

    - by James A. Rosen
I'm using GMail as my SMTP server. I have that configuration working just fine: # config/initializers/action_mailer.rb: ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = { :tls => true, :address => "smtp.gmail.com", :port => "587", :domain => "www.example.org", :authentication => :login, :user_name => "[email protected]", :password => "it's a secret" } I also have a public/private RSA key pair in config/ssl/rsa.public and config/ssl/rsa.private. What do I do to sign the emails before shipping them off to GMail's SMTP server?

  • Implementing a 'Send Feedback' feature in a Java desktop application

    - by William
I would like to implement a 'Send Feedback' option in a Java desktop application. One which will pop up a box for the user to enter a comment, then send it to us along with a screenshot of the application window. How would be the best way to communicate the data to us? Two obvious solutions spring to mind: Email - I'm thinking that the application would connect to an SMTP server set-up by us, with the username/password somehow hidden in the code. SMTP over SSL for security (not of the data being sent, but of the SMTP username/password). Web service - pretty self explanatory. Which of these would be best, or is there a better alternative?

  • How to determine the timezone that an email was sent from in C#

    - by John Sibly
Can anyone recommend a way to determine the timezone that an email was sent from in C#? Looking at the header information of an email includes information like: Received: from mail-ew0-f211.google.com (123.85.219.211) by UKExchange (10.1.10.99) with Microsoft SMTP Server id 1.2.345.6; Tue, 13 Apr 2010 14:26:24 +0100 Received: by ewy3 with SMTP id 3so288857ewy.6 for <[email protected]>; Tue, 13 Apr 2010 06:26:23 -0700 (PDT) MIME-Version: 1.0 Received: by 10.103.213.2 with HTTP; Tue, 13 Apr 2010 06:26:23 -0700 (PDT) X-Originating-IP: [83.244.243.210] Date: Tue, 13 Apr 2010 14:26:23 +0100 Received: by 10.103.3.17 with SMTP id f17mr3087878mui.123.1271165183473; Tue, 13 Apr 2010 06:26:23 -0700 (PDT) There are a number of "Received: from" and "Received: by" keys with a date, time and timezone indicated on the end. Which one of these should I attempt to parse? Is this a reliable way to figure out the sender's timezone, or anyone recommend a better way?

  • Sending mail via sendmail from python

    - by Nate
If I want to send mail not via SMTP, but rather via sendmail, is there a library for python that encapsulates this process? Better yet, is there a good library that abstracts the whole 'sendmail -versus- smtp' choice? I'll be running this script on a bunch of unix hosts, only some of which are listening on localhost:25; a few of these are part of embedded systems and can't be set up to accept SMTP. As part of Good Practice, I'd really like to have the library take care of header injection vulnerabilities itself -- so just dumping a string to popen('/usr/bin/sendmail', 'w') is a little closer to the metal than I'd like. If the answer is 'go write a library,' so be it ;-)

  • Customize the From address in Rails application

    - by palani
Hi , I have mailer action in my application, the mailer is configured with gmail smtp. The following is my config details under environment.rb file require "smtp_tls" ActionMailer::Base.delivery_method = :smtp ActionMailer::Base.perform_deliveries = true ActionMailer::Base.raise_delivery_errors = true ActionMailer::Base.default_charset = "utf-8" ActionMailer::Base.default_content_type = "text/html" ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = { :address => "smtp.gmail.com", :port => 587, :domain => 'gmail.com', :user_name => "[email protected]", :password => "password", :authentication => :plain The think i want to implement is, when ever the application generating email the from address shows "[email protected]". Is possible to customize the from address. In different places i want to use different From address instead of "[email protected]" I tried with my mailer model: @from = "#{user.email}" In development server log it shows the customized id correctly. if go my email inbox it shows the from address as "[email protected]" Can any one please guide on this. thanks in advance.

  • Protocol/Packet Design Questions

    - by cam
I'm looking to a design a protocol for a client-server application and need some links to some resources that may help me. The big part is I'm trying to create my own "packet" format so I can minimize the amount of information being sent. I'm looking for some resources to dissect their protocol, but it seems some completely lack packet design, such as SMTP (which just sends strings terminated by CLRF). What are the advantages/disadvantages of using a system like SMTP over a system that uses a custom made packet? Couldn't SMTP use only a couple bytes to cover all commands through bit flags and save bandwidth/space? Just trying to get my head around all this.
