• Can I access mac iTunes library from an iPad?

  Can I access my iMac based iTunes library from my iPad over my home wifi? I know I can sync them up but the library is too big. Edit; just to clear(er), the movies, podcasts etc which are stored on the iMac, I want to watch them on my iPad without syncing. I know I can create playlist to sync a subset of my library, but that is not what I want. What I'm thinking about is using my iPad as a kind of portable apple TV.

• Easy to use booking software?

  Looking for an easy to use B&B booking software that will allow the owner to schedule and rent rooms. It would ideally have a windows client (with cloud sync) and thinking mobile app for reminders and such. Calendar with automatic scheduling of some sort would be great too. Anyone heard of something along these lines? If not - any suggestions of API's or services that one could start with to roll their own solution?

• What hardware specs do I need to run Apache/PHP and SVN?

  I want to build a linux machine to use as a test server (LAMP) and use SVN on it. I am thinking maybe Ubantu as the OS but what hardware specs would I need. I think the entire site is less than a gig but if SVN is going to keep multiple versions than wouldnt I need a huge hard drive? Any tips would be nice. Thanks!!

• Need help recovering a corrupt SQL database

  I have a very special case that I have been working on for several days. I have a very large SQL Server 2008 database (about 2 TB) that contains 500 filegroups to support very large partitioned tables. Recently we had a catastophic failure on one of the drive and lost several filegroups and the database became in-accessible. We have been doing filegroup backups on a daily basis, but due to other issues, we lost our most recent backup of the log and the primary filegroup. We have all the data backed up but the primary filegroup backup is old. There have been no schema changes since the primary filegroup backup, but the lsn's are now all out of sync and we cannot recover the data. I have tried everything I could think of (and have tried just about every trick and hack I could google) but I still end up at the same point where I get messages saying that the files for filegroup x do not match the primary filegroup. I am now at the point of trying to edit the system tables (we have a separate temporary environment to do this so we are not worried about corrupting any production databases). I have tried updated sys.sysdbreg, sys.sysbrickfiles, and sys.sysprufiles to try to trick SQL into thinking all the files are online, but a "Select * From OPENROWSET(TABLE DBPROP, 5)" shows a different database state from what I see in sys.sysdbreg. I am now thinking I need to somehow edit the headers of the actual data files to try to line up the lsn's with the primary. I appreciate any help anyone can give me here, but please do not respond with things like "you are not supposed to do edit mdf, ndf files...." or "see msdn article....", etc. This is an advanced emergency case and I need a real hack so we can just get to the data in this corrupt database and export to a fresh new database. I know there is a way to do this, but not knowing what the DBPROP system functions does (i.e. does it look at system tables or does it actually open the file) is keeping me from trying to figure out how to fool SQL into allowing me to read these files. • Suggestions for making sysfs parameters persist across reboots

  I'm experimenting with large changes to Linux system runtime parameters exposed through the sysfs virtual file system. What is the most efficient way to maintain these parameters so that they persist across reboots on a RHEL/CentOS-style system? Is it simply dumping commands into /etc/rc.local? Is there an init script that's well-suited for this? I'm also thinking about standardization from a configuration management perspective. Is there a clean sysfs equivalent to sysctl?

• Change directory upwards to specified goal

  I'm often deep inside a directory tree, moving upwards and downwards to perform various tasks. Is there anything more efficient than going 'cd ../../../..'? I was thinking something along the lines of this: If I'm in /foo/bar/baz/qux/quux/corge/grault and want to go to /foo/bar/baz, I want to do something like 'cdto baz'. I can write some bash script for this, but I'd first like to know if it already exists in some form.

• replace nth occurence of string in each line of a text file

  I have large text files with space delimited strings (2-5). The strings can contain "'" or "-". I'd like to replace say the second space with a pipe. What's the best way to go? Using sed I was thinking of this: sed -r 's/(^[a-z'-]+ [a-z'-]+\b) /\1|/' filename.txt Any other/better/simpler ideas? Thank you

• Microsoft Outlook: Add senders to contacts

  We're using Microsoft Outlook 2003/2007 with NON-EXHCANGE mailboxes, stored in PST files. Is there a way to quickly add a large number of senders from the inbox to the users contact list? I was thinking to export all the senders from the inbox in the PST file to a list and then so use scripting to add them all to the contact list, or perhaps arrange in CSV and import. Any advice is highly appreciated.

  I've had a few issues where users have mistakenly created public synonyms which have led to people thinking some objects are in one schema when they're actually in another schema. Everyone knows they should be using private synonyms, but occasionally they forget or they make a mistake and someone gets burned.   I am thinking of getting a 256MB server on XEN but not sure is it capable of handling this setup: Varnish + Nginx + Eaccelerator + PHP-FM + MySQL + Mail/FTP? I've tried this setup on OpenVZ and it was partly disastorous, especially with varnish in the equation, i've heard that XEN is better at memory management, sometimes shaving off 50mb or more in comparison to OpenVZ setups... if anyone has any helpful suggestions / input please let me know thanks

  Is there a hidden setting or an external utility that would enable moving windows on Windows like on GNOME? I'm particularly thinking of moving windows using Alt + Drag and drop (which can be changed to Win + drag and drop). I have machine with Windows (7) and two big monitors at work, and I tend to use multiple smaller windows. Moving them quickly around is essential, so I'm always missing this GNOME feature.

• Chrome settings window doesn't fit on netbook screen

  I'd really like to use chrome on my netbook, but I can't change the settings because the resolution is 1024*600 on Windows 7. Is there any workaround? I tried the move window command with keyboard thinking that I could move the window up out of the screen enough for the ok button to appear, but the window always snaps back to screen so I can't press ok to save my settings...

So if the LastRxNo is the same, have one line and the AdminTime column will have multiple values. Here is a picture of what I want it to look like Any ideas?   If I have my page file turned on in Windows as opposed to having it turned off as shown below: Would having the page file turned on decrease the life expectancy on my Hard Drive? If so, how much would the life decrease say with regular use? (4 hours a day) I'm thinking it would decrease some just because there would be more writing to the hard drive, but I wasn't sure if it would be too negligible to even matter.

  I recently got a Mac for use at home and really like the feature whereby an app is minimized when you double-click the top of the window. I've gotten so hooked on this behavior that, without thinking about it, I expect it to work on Windows (only to be quickly reminded that it doesn't). Is there a way to change the way Windows handles the double-clicking of the top of an app's window so that the app window will be minimized to the task bar rather than maximized?

• Can a PCI Graphics card, and AGP be used together?

It may sound like a silly question but to me it sounds vague.
