• How Netbeans Editors know that file is not modified after undo?

  Netbeans uses standart UndoManager API for implementation of undo functionality. But neither standart javax.swing.undo.UndoManager nor org.openide.awt.UndoRedo.Manager doesn't have any method to mark states as saved and check modified status. Nonetheless if you change the file and press undo, the file is marked as unmodified. How do they do that? I need the same functionality for my (non-text) editors if the Netbeans RCP application.

• Why does Mercurial only have one level of rollback?

  I understand the restrictions of rollback and the care required in its use (for example, http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/hg.1.html#rollback), but I just wondered why there is only 1 level of rollback. My guess it's a design decision and that the hassle of storing multiple previous transactional states to handle multiple levels of rollback is more trouble than its worth.

• Setting of IIS memory settings for ASP.NET

  We are running an ASP.NET app on a web server with 4GB+ of memory in IIS 6. After reading many articles, it states that we need to set the "maximum memory used" for the Application Pool to 800mb to eliminate the "out of memory exceptions" that are happening for us. However, what should the "maximum virtual memory" in the Application Pool be set to? I can't find information as to what that should be set to.

  I'm working on a c# project that use a Versant Object Database back end and I'm trying to build a query that contains an arithmetic operator. The documentation states that it is supported but lack any example. I'm trying to build something like this: SELECT * FROM _orderItemObject WHERE _qtyOrdered - _qtySent > 0 If I try this statement in the Object Inspector I get a synthax error near the '-'. Anyone has an example of a working VQL with that kind of statement? Thanks

  I have a list which I shuffle with the Python built in shuffle function (random.shuffle) However, the Python reference states: Note that for even rather small len(x), the total number of permutations of x is larger than the period of most random number generators; this implies that most permutations of a long sequence can never be generated. Now, I wonder what this "rather small len(x)" means. 100, 1000, 10000,... Can anybody clarify? Thanks!

  I noticed in Firefox when viewing the cookies that the values I am saving are not encrypted. The CakePHP Book states that values are encrypted by default on write(). I can't seem to find any gotchas in the doc Anyone else experience this problem? I am sure I am missing something.. Would it matter that the value being set is a integer?

  The CakePHP Cookbook states that a Model can use a file (csv for example) instead of an actual database table but I couldn't find any implementation for it.   What is the advantage of using a ConcurrentBag(Of MyType) against just using a List(Of MyType)? The MSDN page on the CB (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd381779(v=VS.100).aspx) states that ConcurrentBag(Of T) is a thread-safe bag implementation, optimized for scenarios where the same thread will be both producing and consuming data stored in the bag So what is the advantage?   In C#, I can write something like: using (new MyDisposableClass().MethodA()); The semicolon causes a compiler warning to be shown which states possible mistaken empty statement. I haven't run the above code but won't the method still be called? What uses is there of this type of coding convention?
