  • object representation and value representation

    - by FredOverflow
    3.9 §4 says: The object representation of an object of type T is the sequence of N unsigned char objects taken up by the object of type T, where N equals sizeof(T). The value representation of an object is the set of bits that hold the value of type T. For trivially copyable types, the value representation is a set of bits in the object representation that determines a value, which is one discrete element of an implementation-defined set of values. Does "The value representation of an object" imply that values are always stored in objects? What is the value representation of non-trivially copyable types?

  • INET_ATON() and INET_NTOA() in PHP?

    - by blerh
    I want to store IP addresses in my database, but I also need to use them throughout my application. I read about using INET_ATON() and INET_NTOA() in my MySQL queries to get a 32-bit unsigned integer out of an IP address, which is exactly what I want as it will make searching through the database faster than using char(15). The thing is, I can't find a function that does the same sort of thing in PHP. The only thing I came across is: http://php.net/manual/en/function.ip2long.php So I tested it: $ip = $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']; echo ip2long($ip); And it outputs nothing. In the example they gave it seems to work, but then again I'm not exactly sure if ip2long() does the same thing as INET_ATON(). Does someone know a PHP function that will do this? Or even a completely new solution to storing an IP address in a database? Thanks.

  • how to find distinct digit set numbers over a range of integers?

    - by evil.coder
    Suppose i have a unsigned integer, call it low and one another call it high such that highlow. The problem is to find distinct digit set numbers over this range. For example, suppose low is 1 and high is 20 then the answer is 20, because all the numbers in this range are of distinct digit sets. If suppose low is 1 and high is 21, then the answer is 20, because 12 and 21 have same digit set i.e.1, 2. I am not looking for a bruteforce algo., if anyone has a better solution then a usual bruteforce approach, please tell..

  • Calling DLL functions from VB6.

    - by Tim Ring
    I've got a Windows DLL that I wrote, written in C/C++ (all exported functions are 'C'). The DLL works fine for me in VC++. I've given the DLL to another company who do all their development in VB. They seem to be having a problem linking to the functions. I haven't used VB in ten years and I don't even have it installed. What could be the problem? I've declared all my public functions as follows: define MYDCC_API __declspec(dllexport) MYDCCL_API unsigned long MYDCC_GetVer( void); . . . Any ideas? Finally got back to this today and have it working. The answers put me on the right track but I found this most helpful: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/DLL/XDllPt2.aspx Also, I had a few problems passing strings to the DLL functions, I found this helpful: http://www.flipcode.com/archives/Interfacing_Visual_Basic_And_C.shtml

  • format specifier for short integer

    - by cateof
    I don't use correctly the format specifiers in C. A few lines of code: int main() { char dest[]="stack"; unsigned short val = 500; char c = 'a'; char* final = (char*) malloc(strlen(dest) + 6); snprintf(final, strlen(dest)+6, "%c%c%hd%c%c%s", c, c, val, c, c, dest); printf("%s\n", final); return 0; } I want my executable to print aa500aastack and not aa500aasta Why I am loosing 2 byte? What is the correct format specifier for an unsighed short integer? thanks.

  • Invalid function declaration. DevC++

    - by user69514
    Why do I get invalid function declaration when I compile the code in DevC++ in Windows, but when I compile it in CodeBlocks on Linux it works fine. #include <iostream> #include <vector> using namespace std; //structure to hold item information struct item{ string name; double price; }; //define sandwich, chips, and drink struct item sandwich{"Sandwich", 3.00}; **** error is here ***** struct item chips{"Chips", 1.50}; **** error is here ***** struct item drink{"Large Drink", 2.00}; **** error is here ***** vector<item> cart; //vector to hold the items double total = 0.0; //total const double tax = 0.0825; //tax //gets item choice from user char getChoice(){ cout << "Select an item:" << endl; cout << "S: Sandwich. $3.00" << endl; cout << "C: Chips. $1.50" << endl; cout << "D: Drink. $2.00" << endl; cout << "X: Cancel. • Declaring a C function to return an array

    - by Jaska
    How can I make a function which returns an array? I tried this const int WIDTH=11; const int HEIGHT=11; int main() { char A[WIDTH][HEIGHT]; A=rand_grid(WIDTH,HEIGHT); return 0; } // Initializes a random board. char[][] rand_grid(int i, int k) { char* A[i][k]; for(j=0;j<i;++j) { for(l=0;l<k;++l) { A[j][l]=ran(10); } } return A; } // Returns a random number from the set {0,...,9}. int ran(int i) { srand((unsigned int) time(0)); return(rand()%10); }

  • LBA48 in Linux SCSI ATA Passthrough

    - by Ben Englert
    I am writing a custom disk monitoring/diagnostics app which, among other things, needs to do stuff to SATA disks behind a SAS PCI card under Linux. So far I am following this guide as well as the example code in sg_utils to pass ATA taskfiles through the SCSI layer. Seems to be working okay. However, in both cases, the CDB data structure (pointed to by the cmdp member of the sg_io argument to the ioctl) has only one unsigned char worth of space for the number of sectors. If you look at the ata_taskfile structure in linux\ata.h you'll see that it has an "nsect" and a "hob_nsect" field - high order bits for the sector count, to support LBA48. It turns out that in my application I need LBA48 support. So, anyone know how to set up an sg_io_hdr structure with an LBA48 sector count?

  • converting string to int in C++

    - by xbonez
    I am trying to convert a string I read in from a file to an int value so I can store it in an integer variable. This is what my code looks like: ifstream sin; sin.open("movie_output.txt"); string line; getline(sin,line); myMovie.setYear(atoi(line)); Over here, setYear is a mutator in the Movie class (myMovie is an object of Movie class) that looks like this: void Movie::setYear(unsigned int year) { year_ = year; } When I run the code, I get the following error: error C2664: 'atoi' : cannot convert parameter 1 from 'std::string' to 'const char *' 1> No user-defined-conversion operator available that can perform this conversion, or the operator cannot be called

  • What's a good way to detect wrap-around in a fixed-width message counter?

    - by Kristo
    I'm writing a client application to communicate with a server program via UDP. The client periodically makes requests for data and needs to use the most recent server response. The request message has a 16-bit unsigned counter field that is echoed by the server so I can pair requests with server responses. Since it's UDP, I have to handle the case where server responses arrive out of order (or don't arrive at all). Naively, that means holding on to the highest message counter seen so far and dropping any incoming message with a lower number. But that will fail as soon as we pass 65535 messages and the counter wraps back to zero. Is there a good way to detect (with reasonable probability) that, for example, message 5 actually comes after message 65,000? The implementation language is C++.

  • C# public partial struct methods for more System.Windows.Media.Color

    - by dr d b karron
    How can I put in additional methods for manipulating color ? Best would be to overload the struct System.Windows.Media.Color. It is NOT a class (in c#). Now i'm tinkering with putting (in the same file for testing or must i put it in a different file) an namespace (Silverlight Application36 or System.Windows.Media ?) and a partial struct Color Normalize (double R, ...). I should see MyColor.Normalize() start being recognized by intellisense ? I'm not. I'm looking to put in a suite of overloaded color manipulations using floating and double numbers instead of unsigned byte integers. Any hints while I wack at it ? Cheers! dr.K

  • storing multiple values as binary in one field

    - by Enghoej
    Hi I have a project where I need to store a large number of values. The data is a dataset holding 1024 2Byte Unsigned integer values. Now I store one value at one row together with a timestamp and a unik ID. This data is continously stored based on a time trigger. What I would like to do, is store all 1024 values in one field. So would it be possible to do some routine that stores all the 1024 2byte integer values in one field as binary. Maybe a blobfield. Thanks. Br. Enghoej

  • Polymorphic associations in CakePHP2

    - by Joseph
    I have 3 models, Page , Course and Content Page and Course contain meta data and Content contains HTML content. Page and Course both hasMany Content Content belongsTo Page and Course To avoid having page_id and course_id fields in Content (because I want this to scale to more than just 2 models) I am looking at using Polymorphic Associations. I started by using the Polymorphic Behavior in the Bakery but it is generating waaay too many SQL queries for my liking and it's also throwing an "Illegal Offset" error which I don't know how to fix (it was written in 2008 and nobody seems to have referred to it recently so perhaps the error is due to it not having been designed for Cake 2?) Anyway, I've found that I can almost do everything I need by hardcoding the associations in the models as such: Page Model CREATE TABLE `pages` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `title` varchar(255) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, `slug` varchar(255) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, `created` datetime NOT NULL, `updated` datetime NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) <?php class Page extends AppModel { var $name = 'Page'; var $hasMany = array( 'Content' => array( 'className' => 'Content', 'foreignKey' => 'foreign_id', 'conditions' => array('Content.class' => 'Page'), ) ); } ?> Course Model CREATE TABLE `courses` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `title` varchar(255) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, `slug` varchar(255) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, `created` datetime NOT NULL, `updated` datetime NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) <?php class Course extends AppModel { var $name = 'Course'; var $hasMany = array( 'Content' => array( 'className' => 'Content', 'foreignKey' => 'foreign_id', 'conditions' => array('Content.class' => 'Course'), ) ); } ?> Content model CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `contents` ( `id` int(11) unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT, `class` varchar(30) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, `foreign_id` int(11) unsigned NOT NULL, `title` varchar(100) COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, `content` text COLLATE utf8_unicode_ci NOT NULL, `created` datetime DEFAULT NULL, `modified` datetime DEFAULT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`) ) <?php class Content extends AppModel { var $name = 'Content'; var $belongsTo = array( 'Page' => array( 'foreignKey' => 'foreign_id', 'conditions' => array('Content.class' => 'Page') ), 'Course' => array( 'foreignKey' => 'foreign_id', 'conditions' => array('Content.class' => 'Course') ) ); } ?> The good thing is that $this->Content->find('first') only generates a single SQL query instead of 3 (as was the case with the Polymorphic Behavior) but the problem is that the dataset returned includes both of the belongsTo models, whereas it should only really return the one that exists. Here's how the returned data looks: array( 'Content' => array( 'id' => '1', 'class' => 'Course', 'foreign_id' => '1', 'title' => 'something about this course', 'content' => 'The content here', 'created' => null, 'modified' => null ), 'Page' => array( 'id' => null, 'title' => null, 'slug' => null, 'created' => null, 'updated' => null ), 'Course' => array( 'id' => '1', 'title' => 'Course name', 'slug' => 'name-of-the-course', 'created' => '2012-10-11 00:00:00', 'updated' => '2012-10-11 00:00:00' ) ) I only want it to return one of either Page or Course depending on which one is specified in Content.class UPDATE: Combining the Page and Course models would seem like the obvious solution to this problem but the schemas I have shown above are just shown for the purpose of this question. The actual schemas are actually very different in terms of their fields and the each have a different number of associations with other models too. UPDATE 2 Here is the query that results from running $this->Content->find('first'); : SELECT `Content`.`id`, `Content`.`class`, `Content`.`foreign_id`, `Content`.`title`, `Content`.`slug`, `Content`.`content`, `Content`.`created`, `Content`.`modified`, `Page`.`id`, `Page`.`title`, `Page`.`slug`, `Page`.`created`, `Page`.`updated`, `Course`.`id`, `Course`.`title`, `Course`.`slug`, `Course`.`created`, `Course`.`updated` FROM `cakedb`.`contents` AS `Content` LEFT JOIN `cakedb`.`pages` AS `Page` ON (`Content`.`foreign_id` = `Page`.`id` AND `Content`.`class` = 'Page') LEFT JOIN `cakedb`.`courses` AS `Course` ON (`Content`.`foreign_id` = `Course`.`id` AND `Content`.`class` = 'Course') WHERE 1 = 1 LIMIT 1

    Im trying to make a small app in c++ that saves midifiles with this library. http://musicnote.sourceforge.net/docs/html/index.html The sample code that is given on the homepage looks like this. #include "MusicNoteLib.h" void main() { MusicNoteLib::Player player; // Create the Player Object player.Play("C D E F G A B"); // Play the Music Notes on the default MIDI output port } This piece of code won't compile in Visual studio 2008, I get many errors like MusicNoteLib.h(22) : error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. • How can i get the correct date?

    - by Haley
    Hi, I have a time of NSString type. i wonder get the day, but i find somethine strange. NSString *strTime = @"2010-05-14 16:00:01"; NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init]; [formatter setDateFormat:@"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"]; NSDate *oldDate = [formatter dateFromString:strTime]; unsigned int flags = NSYearCalendarUnit | NSMonthCalendarUnit | NSDayCalendarUnit; NSCalendar* calendar = [NSCalendar currentCalendar]; NSDateComponents* components = [calendar components:flags fromDate:oldDate]; int day = [components day]; When NSString *strTime = @"2010-05-14 16:00:01" the day is 15,and when NSString *strTime = @"2010-05-14 16:00:00" the day is 14.I want to know why?

  • How to set up a Bitmap with unmanaged data?

    - by Danvil
    I have int width, height; and IntPtr data; which comes from a unmanaged unsigned char* pointer and I would like to create a Bitmap to show the image data in a GUI. Please consider, that width must not be a multiple of 4, i do not have a "stride" and my image data is aligned as BGRA. The following code works: byte[] pixels = new byte[4*width*height]; System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.Copy(data, pixels, 0, pixels.Length); var bmp = new Bitmap(width, height, System.Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format32bppArgb); for(int i=0; i<height; i++) { for(int j=0; j<width; j++) { int p = 4*(width*i + j); bmp.SetPixel(j, i, Color.FromArgb(pixels[p+3], pixels[p+2], pixels[p+1], pixels[p+0])); } } Is there a more direct way to copy the data?

    i have the following code to disable task manager of windows xp but it still displays a message the "task manager is disabled" and we have to press ok how can i disable even this message ; i want that when any one presses ALT+CLRT+ DEL nothing happens even no message dialog. HKEY hMykey; DWORD pDWDisp; unsigned char cData[1]; cData[0]='1'; LONG lRes = RegCreateKeyEx(HKEY_CURRENT_USER, "Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Policies\\system", 0,"DisableTaskMgr",REG_OPTION_NON_VOLATILE,KEY_ALL_ACCESS, NULL,&hMykey,&pDWDisp); // Open a key for edit if(lRes != ERROR_SUCCESS) { MessageBox(0,"Error opening key","",MB_OK); exit(0);// Shutdown on fail }//End if lRes = RegSetValueEx(hMykey,"DisableTaskMgr",0,REG_DWORD, (LPBYTE)cData,sizeof(cData));// Add your key value if(lRes != ERROR_SUCCESS) { MessageBox(0,"Error saving record","",MB_OK); RegCloseKey(hMykey); exit(0);// Shutdown on fail }//End if

  • How to free an Oracle Object-Type passed to an external procedure

    - by chila
    I'm using OTT to pass and load an Object Type from a C++ external procedure. The problem I have is that I don't know how to somehow mark the object for deallocation once extproc has done marshalling it. The object remains in extproc's memory forever making it grow in memory consumtion. Here's part of the code: void decodeFromBuffer(OCIExtProcContext *ctx, GPRS_GPRSCHARGINGRECORD *record, GPRS_GPRSCHARGINGRECORD_ind *recordInd, const unsigned char *buffer, int buffLen, OCIInd *bufferInd) { . . . assert(OCIExtProcGetEnv(ctx, &envh, &svch, &errh) == OCI_SUCCESS); recordInd->_atomic = OCI_IND_NOTNULL; // somehow I should mark the object for deallocation after extproc has done marshalling it // using OCINumberFromInt and OCIStringAssignText to load the object (this memory is never deallocated) . . . } How could I mark the object (and subobjects) for deallocation?

  • Behavior with primitive data types' value out of range & C99's PRI* macros

    - by Yktula
    Say we have an 8-bit unsigned integer n (UINT8_MAX=255); what is the behavior of the compiler for n=256? Where can I find a table of default behavior when the value of a data type is out of range for different data types? Is there a pattern to how they behave when set out of range? #include <stdio.h> #include <inttypes.h> uint8_t n = UINT8_MAX; int main() { printf("%hhu ",n++); printf("%hhu",n); return 0; } Compiling with gcc -std=c99 -Wall *.c, this prints: 255 0 Also, is it acceptable to use C99's PRI* macros? How are they named?

  • Standard (cross-platform) way for bit manipulation

    - by Kiril Kirov
    As are are different binary representation of the numbers (for example, take big/little endian), is this cross-platform: some_unsigned_type variable = some_number; // set n-th bit, starting from 1, // right-to-left (least significant-to most significant) variable |= ( 1 << ( n - 1 ) ); // clear the same bit: variable &= ~( 1 << ( n - 1 ) ); In other words, does the compiler always take care of the different binary representation of the unsigned numbers, or it's platform-specific? And what if variable is signed integral type (for example, int) and its value is zero positive negative? What does the Standard say about this? P.S. And, yes, I'm interesting in both - C and C++, please don't tell me they are different languages, because I know this :) I can paste real example, if needed, but the post will become too long

  • File in binary form

    - by Abhi
    Dear All I want to write data into the file in binary form. I was trying using the mentioned below FILE *fp = fopen("binaryoutput.rgb888", "ab+"); for(int m=0; m<height; m++) { for (int n=0; n< width; n++) { temp = (pOutputImg+m*3+n*3); // here temp is a pointer to a unsigned char fprintf(fp,"%u",*temp); } } fclose(fp); I am able to get data which is strored at pOutputImg but not in binary form. Can anyone guide me the correct step.. Thanks in advance
