• Can I flash a PCI-E device's Firmware in a VM if the VM has exclusive IOMMU access?

  I have a PCI-E Dell Perc 6/i RAID card that I'd like to flash with the latest firmware. Apparently I need either a Redhat / Centos OS or Windows in order to flash the firmware, but I have a VMWare 5.0.1 ESX hypervisor installed on the box and a CentOS guest OS. My motherboard support IOMMU and I have successfully used VMWare's PCI Passthrough feature to give VMs exclusive access to a PCI-E device. Is it safe to flash the firmware of a PCI-E device if that device is passed through to a single VM using the passthrough feature of VMware? Or should I boot one of the supported OSes directly on the bare metal?

I need to know how to use dd to make splitted ISO images from some storage device, I'm doing it through SSH: the process is slow and the risk of faling at the mid of the operation (1) is high then I need to know how to make these splitted ISO images from my storage device. (2) I'm searching for some reference on dd, it could be a book or a good website about it for when any doubt arises. 1 - I'm doing it on a ~60GB storage device, it took me a whole day to copy ~10GB from this disk. 2 - For curious people, I'm trying to recover an accidentaly deleted file from an iPod, until now I've been able to make the whole process, I just need to improve it beucase I left it copying the disk yesterday: Today it gave me an error when it was at ~10GB.

  Possible Duplicate: Can you help me with my software licensing issue? I've got a Citrix XenApp 6.5 Farm running on Win 2008 R2 Servers. I purchased 300 Device RDP/Remote App Licenses for ~200 users. We went with Device licenses, because most of the end users use the same machines. After 1 month of operating, we started to run out of licenses. It turns out the licensing service is consuming multiple licenses for the same machine. I can revoke licenses, but there is a limit to how many I can do. Is this operating correctly? The only explanation I can come up with is that the Licensing service is giving a license to a device for every server it connects to in our Citrix farm.

  Here is my problem. I have an android tablet that have only WiFi for network connectivity and I have a windows server that have only Ethernet ports for network connection. Now I want to telnet to my server from my tablet. I think some wireless to Ethernet converter required in between. I am planning to use Buffalo Air Station WCR-GN or TP-LINK TL-WR740N or TL-WR702N.   I have console access to an embedded linux device. This device has flash memory part of which is partitioned as a FAT filesystem. Its running linux-2.6.31.   I'll just say a few random things One usb wifi device i notice only worked when it plugged into my usb hub Another one worked but couldnt get full speed. It came with an extention cord and when i had it a few feet away i was able to (usually) get full speed I had a wifi card in a tower in the past and just about all laptops have it built in How do i use a USB wifi adapter properly? The first device didnt come with an extention cord and made no mention of bringing it away from the computer. When someone else tested the device he said he was getting full speed while it was plugged into his tower so i was pretty surpised. How do i use USB wifi devices properly?

  I have a small confusion about the differences between the 2 types of set ups: When deploying using Add Roles and Features the Wizard requests to choose from one of two Deployment Scenarios: Virtual machine-based desktop deployment : Virtual machine-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to virtual desktop collections that include published RemoteApp programs and virtual desktops. Session-based desktop deployment : Session-based desktop deployment allows users to connect to session collections that include published RemoteApp programs and session-based desktops. Although this seems intuitive now, if I continue with "Virtual machine-based desktop deployment" I later have another two options when creating a collection: Pooled virtual desktop collection Personal virtual desktop collection This is where my confusion lies. What is the differences between a Session-based deployment and Virtual machine-based deployment with Personal virtual desktop collections? I'm mostly finding information pertaining to Windows Server 2008 but I know there are some core improvements in VDI 2012 so would someone please comment on that. Thank you

However, if I find AMI in Community Page, it does not show the root device size. Can anyone know how to use the instance such as centOS that is not provided by default but it is under 10GB so that I can still free use?

• Verizon HTC Eris - No sound on incoming phone call after 2.1 droid upgrade. Help!?

  Has anyone had the following issue? I've had several issues as well: No sound when call connects, ringing or people talking. Apps would force close like weather. I did call HTC support and they had me go into Menu, Settings, Manage Applications and then clear the cache of the problem app. They also had me clear the cache once the browser was open and then do a soft reset (power off the phone and take the battery out for 15 seconds) This did fix some issues, but I am constantly turning my phone on and off to get sound back on call or to make the assigned ringtones work. There's no rhyme or reason as to why they stop working... Anyone else tried anything different??? Related problem statement... http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/32/p/2601/10344.aspx#10344 My wife and I are most concerned about the incoming call issue.

  When I try to e-mail my 10-minute videos to my gmail account, but when I try to attach the videos the phone gives me this error: 'File is too large and cannot be attached'. Can't reproduce because my Android is hooked up to USB, but I'll edit-- S3x-- What's any convenient way to upload/send a video without having to get out the USB? Can I do it without using any 3rd-party apps, or at least using safe 3rd-party apps? Youtube is an option, I believe, but I want to have a hard copy on my PC for editing. Attachments are more convenient.

• Scan And Fix a RAW drive

  Hi Basically I got the same problem as described in this thread. When I plug my HTC Hero Android Phone with USB into my Windows 7 computer I get a "Do you want to Scan and Fix" message. However, if I click "Scan and Fix", the USB instantly unplug itself, so that's no good. I've tried updating drivers from HTC with no luck. I've also tried running chkdisk from command-line with the message that it can't be used in RAW drives. This is really really annoying, and the SD card works just fine if I ignore the message, so I just want a way to disable/hide this message permanently. If anyone have some ideas how this can be done, please let me know. Thanks.

• Can make the proxy settings invisible when I share my internet connection via wifi?

  This is probably a long shot... I have an HTC Desire and frustratingly found out after I got it that it doesn't support network proxy settings. We have a wireless network at my office that uses a proxy. My desktop at work runs ubuntu. I was wondering if the following set up would work: Plug a USB Wireless adapter into the desktop that has a working internet connection using the proxy. Setup the wireless adapter as an ad-hoc network Share the internet connection over the ad-hoc network. Make it so that the use of the proxy is invisible to users of the shared network connection. Connect the Android phone to the ad-hoc wireless network and utilise the internet connection. My question is this: Is this possible or should I give up now and not even try? I think I can handle steps 1, 2, 3 and 5. I just have no idea if step 4 even makes sense, let alone is possible. Thanks

  I have tried to install usb driver for Samsung arndale on Windows 7. Now it has two entries in Device Manager. I can not uninstall the one with question mark. If I uninstall both of them, when I plug in the hardware, Windows 7 will automatically install both of the entries when the circuit pulg in. I don't get the chance to choose the right driver. When I try to update the wrong driver, it says found the driver but can not install it.

  I have a NAS where I don't have a possibility to create and manage partitions (maybe I could with some hacks that I don't want to make). What ways to setup multiple ZFS pools with one partition each (for starters - just want to use deduplication) exist? The setup should work with the NAS, i.e. over network (I'd mount the images via NFS or cifs). My ideas and associated issues so far: sparse files mounted over loop device (specifying sparse file directly as ZFS vdev doesn't work, see Can I choose a sparse file as vdev for a zfs pool?): problem that the name/number of the assigned loop device is anything but constant, not sure how increasing the number loop device with kernel parameter affects performance (there has to be a reason to limit it to 8 in the default value, right?)

  Can I get my Nexus One/Android on my local network over USB instead of WiFi and browse to my computer's IP address, the one to which the phone would be connected to, via USB? For instance, let's say my computer has an IP address 100.1.1.1 and when I go to it from the computer I would go to my localhost and see a website I've set up locally in the computer. Then, I connect my phone to that computer via USB. Can I then go to 100.1.1.1 from the browser and see the same website? All this through the USB, no WiFi?

  I am facing boot loop. My backend Linux works flawlessly, But the Zygote and System server does not workout. I can still use ADB and LIVE cat .. ps show that both Zygote and system_server process are there, But boot animation remains forever !! I have : 1 Wiped Data + Cache Partition 2 System Partition has been RESTORED.. There is NO PERMISSION problem... Also, should the User name be my email or something else? I've also no idea how to find or add a user in the step 6 of this guide because the only location listed is my PC and I don't even know what am I supposed to search for.   Is there anyway to make a folder or a partition on a computer (Linux or Windows) act like a mass storage device to other computers or devices when connected with a Male-Male USB cable? For example, I have a Windows 7 computer with 2 partitions, C and D. I would then connect that computer to another computer or a Smart TV using a Male-Male USB cable, and the other computer or device recognizes a folder/partition on current computer as a mass storage device. Is this possible? If not, is there any USB switch that can connect an external hard drive or flash drive to both a computer and TV without the need to manually switch them? (I know about some USB switches, but they only support automatic switching with some certain types of printers, not with mass storage)

I'd like this to occur when I am connected to a specific wireless network: If someone phones who isn't in my contact list, reject the call immediately (straight to voicemail). If they call again within a certain amount of time (say, 30 seconds) allow the call to come through. Frankly, I can't even get the first one working. I know it's possible.
