  • Threading in client-server socket program - proxy sever

    - by crazyTechie
I am trying to write a program that acts as a proxy server. Proxy server basically listens to a given port (7575) and sends the request to the server. As of now, I did not implement caching the response. The code looks like ServerSocket socket = new ServerSocket(7575); Socket clientSocket = socket.accept(); clientRequestHandler(clientSocket); I changed the above code as below: //calling the same clientRequestHandler method from inside another method. Socket clientSocket = socket.accept(); Thread serverThread = new Thread(new ConnectionHandler(client)); serverThread.start(); class ConnectionHandler implements Runnable { Socket clientSocket = null; ConnectionHandler(Socket client){ this.clientSocket = client; } @Override public void run () { try { PrxyServer.clientRequestHandler(clientSocket); } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } } Using the code, I am able to open a webpage like google. However, if I open another web page even I completely receive the first response, I get connection reset by peer expection. 1. How can I handle this issue Can i use threading to handle different requests. Can someone give a reference where I look for example code that implements threading. Thanks. Thanks.

  • Safe json parsing with jquery?

    - by user246114
Hi, I am using jquery with json. My client pages generate json, which I store on my server. The clients can then fetch the json back out later, parse, and show it. Since my clients are generating the json, it may not be safe. I think jquery uses eval() internally. Is that true? Is there a way to use the native json parsers from the browsers where available, otherwise fall back to manual parsing if not? I'm new to jquery so I don't know where I'd insert my own parsing code. I'm doing something like: $.ajax({ url: 'myservlet', type: 'GET', dataType: 'json', timeout: 1000, error: function(){ alert('Error loading JSON'); }, success: function(json){ alert("It worked!: " + json.name + ", " + json.grade); } }); so in the success() method, the json object is already parsed for me. Is there a way to catch it as a raw string first? Then I can decide whether to use the native parsers or manual parsing (hoping there's a jquery plugin for that..). The articles I'm reading are all from different years, so I don't know if jquery has already abandoned eval() already for json, Thank you

  • Navigation Controller with Tab Bar only on first view

    - by dinoc
I am seeking advice on how to start my project. I need to use a combination of the navigation controller and tabbar controller but on the second screen, I need the tabbar controller not to be there. Here is a brief description of the two main screens Screen 1 will have a tabbar controller with two tabs. The first tab is a tableview and when you tap on a table cell, it drills down to Screen 2. The second tab is just a filter view that updates the table in the first tab of Screen 1. Screen two is just a details screen from the cells of Screen 1. The catch is that I don't want the TabBar on Screen 2. I am struggling with how to get started. Do I start with a Navigation-based application since I need to be able to drill down? How do I just add a tab bar to the main screen of the navigation based app? I can't start with a Tab Bar application because if I load a navigation controller inside one of the views of the tab controller, then when I drill down inside the nav controller, the tab bar still stays on the next screen when I need it to go away. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Creating a Simple C# Wrapper to clean up code

    - by Tangopop
I have this code: public void Contacts(string domainToBeTested, string[] browserList, string timeOut, int numberOfBrowsers) { verificationErrors = new StringBuilder(); for (int i = 0; i < numberOfBrowsers; i++) { ISelenium selenium = new DefaultSelenium("LMTS10", 4444, browserList[i], domainToBeTested); try { selenium.Start(); selenium.Open(domainToBeTested); selenium.Click("link=Email"); Assert.IsTrue(selenium.IsElementPresent("//div[@id='tabs-2']/p/a/strong")); selenium.Click("link=Address"); Assert.IsTrue(selenium.IsElementPresent("//div[@id='tabs-3']/p/strong")); selenium.Click("link=Telephone"); Assert.IsTrue(selenium.IsElementPresent("//div[@id='tabs-1']/ul/li/strong")); } catch (AssertionException e) { verificationErrors.AppendLine(browserList[i] + " :: " + e.Message); } finally { selenium.Stop(); } } Assert.AreEqual("", verificationErrors.ToString(), verificationErrors.ToString()); } My problem is i would like to make it so that i can use the code surrounding the 'try' many many times in the rest of the code. I think it has something to do with wrappers, but i can't get a simple answer for this from the web. So in simple terms the only piece of this code which changes is the bit between the try {} the rest is standard code that i have currently used over 100 times and is turning out to be a pain to maintain. Hope this is clear, many thanks.

  • Actionscript flex sockets and telnet

    - by MAC
I am trying to make a flex application where it gets data from a telnet connection and I am running into a weird problem. To give a brief introduction, i want to read data from a process that exposes it through a socket. So if in the shell i type telnet localhost 8651i receive the xml and then the connection is closed (I get the following Connection closed by foreign host.) Anyway i found a simple tutorial online for flex that essentially is a telnet client and one would expect it to work but everything follows Murphy's laws and nothing ever works! Now i have messages being printed in every event handler and all places that i can think off. When i connect to the socket nothing happens, no event handler is triggered even the connect or close handler and if i do the following the socket.connected returns false! I get no errors, try catch raises no exception. I am at a loss as to whats going wrong? socket.connect(serverURL, portNumber); msg(socket.connected.toString()); Is there something about telnet that i do not know and its causing this to not work. Whats more interesting is why none of the events get fired. Another interesting thing is that i have some python code that does the same thing and its able to get the xml back! The following is the python code that works! def getStats(host, port): sock = socket.socket() sock.connect((host, port)) res = sock.recv(1024*1024*1024, socket.MSG_WAITALL) sock.close() return statFunc(res) So i ask you whats going wrong!!!!!! Is there some inherent problem with how flex handles sockets?

  • JQuery get id or class, not value

    - by Celia Tan
    I'm new at JQuery, what I wanted to ask is how to select an option, then another option will automatic selected that have property of first option. I've given code like this: <select name="kendaraan"> <option value="" selected>pilih kendaraan!</option> <option value="B 2011 DR" class="B2011DR">B 2011 DR</option> <option value="R 3333 OKI" class="R3333OKI">R 3333 OKI</option> <option value="k03">jazz</option> <option value="k04">innova</option> </select> <select name="driver"> <option value="" selected>pilih kendaraan!</option> <option value="s02" car="B2011DR" style="display:none">jojon</option> <option value="s01" car="B2011DR" style="display:none">mamat</option> <option value="s04" car="R3333OKI" style="display:none">tukul</option> <option value="s03" car="R3333OKI" style="display:none">mamat</option> <option value="s07" car="k03" style="display:none">bejo</option> <option value="s05" car="k03" style="display:none">mamat</option> <option value="s06" car="k03" style="display:none">tukul</option> <option value="s08" car="k04" style="display:none">budi</option> <option value="s09" car="">komeng</option> </select> $('select[name=kendaraan]').change(function() { //hide all option $('select[name=driver] option').css('display','none'); //display option only for matched driver var isCar = $('select[name=driver] option[car='+$(this).val()+']'); isCar.css('display','block'); //auto select first matched diriver $('select[name=driver]').val( $(isCar[0]).val() ) }) But the jquery code is for getting the value of "kendaraan", how to match it with the class, not the value?

  • Active Directory Incorrect password attempts double counting

    - by Hidayath
Hi I am using the following C# code to connect to active directory and validate the login, DirectoryEntry de = new DirectoryEntry(); string username = "myuser", path = "LDAP://addev2.dev.mycompany.com/CN=myuser,DC=dev,DC=mycompany,DC=com", password = "test"; for (int i = 0; i < 4;i++ ) { try { de.AuthenticationType = AuthenticationTypes.Sealing | AuthenticationTypes.Secure | AuthenticationTypes.FastBind; de.Username = username; de.Password = password; de.Path = path; //de.RefreshCache(); Object obj = de.NativeObject; } catch (Exception ex) { Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } this works fine when the password is correct. However when the password is incorrect this shows as 2 invalid attempts in AD. So what happens is when the AD admin allows 5 invalid attempts the user is locked out on the 3rd attempt. when i look in the AD's event log 1 see 2 entries. 1)Pre-authentication failed: 2)Logon attempt by: MICROSOFT_AUTHENTICATION_PACKAGE_V1_0 Logon account: [email protected] Source Workstation: WKSXXXX Error Code: 0xC000006A Stepping thro the code i see 2 event entries on the line de.RefreshCache() I tried using de.NativeObject to see if that would solve the problem. No Dice Anyone have any pointers?

  • EUpdateError exception not recognized when raised in TDatasetProvider.OnUpdateError. Why?

    - by max
When I re-throw a EUpdateError exception in the TDatasetProvider.OnUpdateError event, it is not recognized as EUpdateError exception in the catch block. It's only recognized as base Excption. try ... //calls the TDatasetPorvider.OnUpdateError event. myClientDataSet.ApplyUpdates(0); ... except on ex: EUpdateError do begin //never goes here //Evaluate ex.ErrorCode end; on ex: Exception do begin //always goes here //the expression (ex is EUpdateError) returns false; end; end; Hiere is the corresponding .OnUpdateError implementaion: procedure MyDataModule.MyDatasetProviderOnUpdateError(..;E: EUpdateError;...); beign //Here, the expression (E is EUpdateException) returns true; raise E; end; The exception is re-thrown, but as it seems the EUpdateError is transformed into a plain base Execption. Does anybody know, why the class type get lost? I would need that type in order to check the .ErrorCode to know what went wrong and to prepare the proper user message.

  • Best ways to format LINQ queries.

    - by Aren B
Before you ignore / vote-to-close this question, I consider this a valid question to ask because code clarity is an important topic of discussion, it's essential to writing maintainable code and I would greatly appreciate answers from those who have come across this before. I've recently run into this problem, LINQ queries can get pretty nasty real quick because of the large amount of nesting. Below are some examples of the differences in formatting that I've come up with (for the same relatively non-complex query) No Formatting var allInventory = system.InventorySources.Select(src => new { Inventory = src.Value.GetInventory(product.OriginalProductId, true), Region = src.Value.Region }).GroupBy(i => i.Region, i => i.Inventory); Elevated Formatting var allInventory = system.InventorySources .Select(src => new { Inventory = src.Value.GetInventory(product.OriginalProductId, true), Region = src.Value.Region }) .GroupBy( i => i.Region, i => i.Inventory); Block Formatting var allInventory = system.InventorySources .Select( src => new { Inventory = src.Value.GetInventory(product.OriginalProductId, true), Region = src.Value.Region }) .GroupBy( i => i.Region, i => i.Inventory ); List Formatting var allInventory = system.InventorySources .Select(src => new { Inventory = src.Value.GetInventory(product.OriginalProductId, true), Region = src.Value.Region }) .GroupBy(i => i.Region, i => i.Inventory); I want to come up with a standard for linq formatting so that it maximizes readability & understanding and looks clean and professional. So far I can't decide so I turn the question to the professionals here.

  • On android how would I go about creating a prompt for an app that requires a user to enter a username before fully launching the app?

    - by racl101
I'll preface this with I'm really new to working on Android. So I have to work on an existing app and create a screen that prompts the user for a username if one isn't entered then it won't launch the currently existing main activity (i.e. it won't fully launch the app. Instead it will just sit on that screen until a username is entered.) I suppose that it's tantamount to a web app login page in that it will not let a user past that page if the user is not authenticated and authorized. However, there's no authentication nor authorization in this app. Instead, on first run a user must simply register with a username and that username gets saved to the database and for any subsequent runs the app's main activity will just start because a user has registered to that phone. In fact, the app will not prompt the user for their name again unless the app gets deleted with all its data and reinstalled again. This implicitly means that I have to save the user's name in the database or some other kind of storage. So I was wondering what would be the best way of doing this in an app with an existing main activity? Should I try to accomplish this on that existing main activity or create a new activity to display this prompt screen and, in effect, block the main activity from running until the user enters their name? Any tutorials or links would be helpful and thank you in advance for any help.

  • Efficient batch SQL query execution on Android, for upgrade database.

    - by Pentium10
    As we Android developers know, the SQLiteDatabase execSQL method can execute only one statement. The doc says: Execute a single SQL statement that is not a query. For example, CREATE TABLE, DELETE, INSERT, etc. Multiple statements separated by ;s are not supported. I have to load in a batch of records, 1000 and counting. How do I insert these efficiently? And what's the easiest way to deliver these SQLs with your apk? I mention, there is already a system database and I will run this on the onUpdate event. I have this code so far: List<String[]> li = new ArrayList<String[]>(); li.add(new String[] { "-1", "Stop", "0" }); li.add(new String[] { "0", "Start", "0" }); /* the rest of the assign */ try { for (String[] elem : li) { getDb().execSQL( "INSERT INTO " + TABLENAME + " (" + _ID + "," + NAME + "," + PARSE_ORDER + ") VALUES (?,?,?)", elem); } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); }

  • JavaScript: Replacement for XMLSerializer.seralizeToString()?

    - by NRaf
I'm developing a website using the Seam framework and the RichFaces AJAX library (these isn't really all that important to the problem at hand - just some background). I seem to have uncovered a bug, however, in RichFaces which, in certain instances, will cause AJAX-based updating to fail in IE8 (see here for more info: http://community.jboss.org/message/585737). The following is the code where the exception is occurring: var anchor = oldnode.parentNode; if(!window.opera && !A4J.AJAX.isWebkitBreakingAmps() && oldnode.outerHTML && !oldnode.tagName.match( /(tbody|thead|tfoot|tr|th|td)/i ) ){ LOG.debug("Replace content of node by outerHTML()"); if (!Sarissa._SARISSA_IS_IE || oldnode.tagName.toLowerCase()!="table") { try { oldnode.innerHTML = ""; } catch(e){ LOG.error("Error to clear node content by innerHTML "+e.message); Sarissa.clearChildNodes(oldnode); } } oldnode.outerHTML = new XMLSerializer().serializeToString(newnode); } The last line (the one with XMLSerializer) is where the exception is occurring in IE. I was wondering if anyone knows of any replacement method / library / etc I could use there (only on IE is fine). Thanks.

  • Turn based synchronization between threads

    - by Amarus
I'm trying to find a way to synchronize multiple threads having the following conditions: * There are two types of threads: 1. A single "cyclic" thread executing an infinite loop to do cyclic calculations 2. Multiple short-lived threads not started by the main thread * The cyclic thread has a sleep duration between each cycle/loop iteration * The other threads are allowed execute during the inter-cycle sleep of the cyclic thread: - Any other thread that attempts to execute during an active cycle should be blocked - The cyclic thread will wait until all other threads that are already executing to be finished Here's a basic example of what I was thinking of doing: // Somewhere in the code: ManualResetEvent manualResetEvent = new ManualResetEvent(true); // Allow Externally call CountdownEvent countdownEvent = new CountdownEvent(1); // Can't AddCount a CountdownEvent with CurrentCount = 0 void ExternallyCalled() { manualResetEvent.WaitOne(); // Wait until CyclicCalculations is having its beauty sleep countdownEvent.AddCount(); // Notify CyclicCalculations that it should wait for this method call to finish before starting the next cycle Thread.Sleep(1000); // TODO: Replace with actual method logic countdownEvent.Signal(); // Notify CyclicCalculations that this call is finished } void CyclicCalculations() { while (!stopCyclicCalculations) { manualResetEvent.Reset(); // Block all incoming calls to ExternallyCalled from this point forward countdownEvent.Signal(); // Dirty workaround for the issue with AddCount and CurrentCount = 0 countdownEvent.Wait(); // Wait until all of the already executing calls to ExternallyCalled are finished countdownEvent.Reset(); // Reset the CountdownEvent for next cycle. Thread.Sleep(2000); // TODO: Replace with actual method logic manualResetEvent.Set(); // Unblock all threads executing ExternallyCalled Thread.Sleep(1000); // Inter-cycles delay } } Obviously, this doesn't work. There's no guarantee that there won't be any threads executing ExternallyCalled that are in between manualResetEvent.WaitOne(); and countdownEvent.AddCount(); at the time the main thread gets released by the CountdownEvent. I can't figure out a simple way of doing what I'm after, and almost everything that I've found after a lengthy search is related to producer/consumer synchronization which I can't apply here.

  • jquery - index of click element on the list is different on IE 7

On IE this produces incorrect index (0, 2, 4, 6 ..). Is there a way to get the correct index in IE 7 for the above html without using class information in the selector? My second question is $('#slides img')[index].attr('style', 'display: block;'); does not work. I have to iterate through each $('#slides img') elements to set the attribute. Isn't HTMLElement object returned from $('#slides img')[index] an jquery object?

  • Is this a good way to generically deserialize objects?

    - by Damien Wildfire
I have a stream onto which serialized objects representing messages are dumped periodically. The objects are one of a very limited number of types, and other than the actual sequence of bytes that arrives, I have no way of knowing what type of message it is. I would like to simply try to deserialize it as an object of a particular type, and if an exception is thrown, try again with the next type. I have an interface that looks like this: public interface IMessageHandler<T> where T : class, IMessage { T Handle(string message); } // elsewhere: // (These are all xsd.exe-generated classes from an XML schema.) public class AppleMessage : IMessage { ... } public class BananaMessage : IMessage { ... } public class CoconutMessage : IMessage { ... } Then I wrote a GenericHandler<T> that looks like this: public class GenericHandler<T> : IMessageHandler<T> where T: class, IMessage { public class MessageHandler : IMessageHandler { T IMessageHandler.Handle(string message) { T result = default(T); try { // This utility method tries to deserialize the object with an // XmlSerializer as if it were an object of type T. result = Utils.SerializationHelper.Deserialize<T>(message); } catch (InvalidCastException e) { result = default(T); } return result; } } } Two questions: Using my GenericHandler<T> (or something similar to it), I'd now like to populate a collection with handlers that each handle a different type. Then I want to invoke each handler's Handle method on a particular message to see if it can be deserialized. If I get a null result, move onto the next handler; otherwise, the message has been deserialized. Can this be done? Is there a better way to deserialize data of unknown (but restricted) type?

  • Java Matrix Transpose strangeness going on

    - by user1459976
ok so im making my own Matrix class. and i have a transpose method that transposes a matrix. this is the block in the main method Matrix m1 = new Matrix(4,2); m1.fillMatrix(1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8); System.out.println("before " + m1.toString()); m1.transpose(); System.out.println("after " + m1.toString()); this is where it gets messed up, at m1.transpose(); in the transpose() method public Matrix transpose() { if(isMatrix2) { Matrix tempMatrix = new Matrix(row, col); // matrix2 contents are emptied once this line is executed for(int i=0; i < row; i++) { for(int j=0; j < col; j++) tempMatrix.matrix2[i][j] = matrix2[i][j]; } so for some reason, the tempMatrix.matrix2 has the same id as this.matrix2. so when the codes executes Matrix tempMatrix = new Matrix(row, col); then the contents of this.matrix2 is emptied. anyone know what might be going on here?

  • Web UI element to represent two different micro-views of data in the same spot?

    - by Chris McCall
I've been tasked with laying out a portion of a screen for a customer care (call center) app that serves as sort of a header/summary block at the top of the screen. Here's what it looks like: The important part is in the red box. That little tooltip is the biz's vision for how to represent both the numeric SiteId and the textual Site Name all in the same piece of screen real estate. I asked, and the business thinks the Name is more important than the ID, but lists the Id by default, because the Name can't be truncated in the display, and there's only so much horizontal room to put the data. So they go with the Id, because it's fewer characters, and then they have the user mouse-over the Id to display the name (presumably because the tooltip can be of unlimited width and since it's floating over the rest of the screen, the full name will always be displayed. So, here's my question: Is there some better UI metaphor that I don't know about that could get this job done, while meeting the following constraints?: Does not require the mouse (uses a keyboard shortcut to do the "reveal") Allows the user to copy and paste the name Will not truncate the name Provides for the display of both the ID and name in the same spot Works with IE7

  • Java JCheckBox ArrayList help needed

    - by user2929626
I'm new to Java and struggling with something which I'm sure must have a simple answer but I can't seem to find it. I have an array of checkbox objects defined as: ArrayList<JCheckBox> checkBoxList A JPanel is created with a grid layout and the checkboxes are added to the JPanel and the ArrayList: for (int i = 0; i < 256; i++) { JCheckBox c = new JCheckBox(); c.setSelected(false); checkBoxList.add(c); mainPanel.add(c); } Yes, there are 256 checkboxes! The panel is added to a JFrame and eventually the GUI is displayed. The user can select any combination of the 256 checkboxes. My class implements Serializable and this ArrayList of checkboxes can be saved and restored using 'Save' and 'Load' GUI buttons. My code to load the saved object is as below: public class LoadListener implements ActionListener { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent a) { try { // Prompt the user for a load file JFileChooser fileLoad = new JFileChooser(); fileLoad.showOpenDialog(mainFrame); // Create a object/file input stream linking to the selected file ObjectInputStream is = new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream(fileLoad.getSelectedFile())); // Read the checkBox array list checkBoxList = (ArrayList<JCheckBox>) is.readObject(); is.close(); } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } On loading the ArrayList object, the values of the checkboxes are correctly populated, however I want to update the checkboxes on the GUI to reflect this. Is there an easy way to do this? I assumed as the array of checkboxes had the correct values that I could just repaint the panel / frame but this doesn't work. I'd like to understand why - does my loaded array of checkbox objects no longer reflect the checkbox objects on the GUI? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • how to tune BufferedInputStream read()?

I am reading a BLOB column from a Oracle database, then writing it to a file as follows: public static int execute(String filename, BLOB blob) { int success = 1; try { File blobFile = new File(filename); FileOutputStream outStream = new FileOutputStream(blobFile); BufferedInputStream inStream = new BufferedInputStream(blob.getBinaryStream()); int length = -1; int size = blob.getBufferSize(); byte[] buffer = new byte[size]; while ((length = inStream.read(buffer)) != -1) { outStream.write(buffer, 0, length); outStream.flush(); } inStream.close(); outStream.close(); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); System.out.println("ERROR(img_exportBlob) Unable to export:"+filename); success = 0; } } The file size is around 3MB and it takes 40-50s to read the buffer. Its actually a 3D image data. So, is there any way by which I can reduce this time?

I saved the data and can display the int (just sample code): SharedPreferences prefs=PreferenceManager .getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); list.setText(prefs.getString("list", "22")); now, I have a xml parser that is pulling a url correctly as a static string: public static String feedUrl = String.format("http://www.freshpointmarketing.com/iphone/objects/XML/AND.php?ID=%d", 22); Works great... now my issue...... I need to have the preference "int" become the variable in the string, thus making it not static. static SharedPreferences prefs=PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); static int myVariable = prefs.getInt("list1", 22); public static String feedUrl = String.format("http://www.freshpointmarketing.com/iphone/objects/XML/AND.php?ID=%d", myVariable); If I take out all static references, I get an error on this: private void loadFeed(ParserType type){ try{ FeedParser parser = FeedParserFactory.getParser(type); long start = System.currentTimeMillis(); messages = parser.parse(); long duration = System.currentTimeMillis() - start; Log.i("AndroidNews", "Parser duration=" + duration); String xml = writeXml(); Log.i("AndroidNews", xml); List<String> titles = new ArrayList<String>(messages.size()); for (Message msg : messages){ titles.add(msg.getTitle()); } ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.row,titles); this.setListAdapter(adapter); } catch (Throwable t){ Log.e("AndroidNews",t.getMessage(),t); } } thanks

  • What job title should be most suitable for my object in resume and what salary range should I expect

    - by user354177
I was a classic asp developer in 2000. After a year of full-time employment, I left the field. I found a part-time position as an asp developer again in 2005 and taught myself vb.net. In 2007, I got the current full-time job as an Asp.net web developer. I taught myself C#, LING t0 SQL, Web Services, AJAX, and creating all kinds of reports with reporting services. One and half years ago, I sent myself to part-time graduate program in Database and Web Systems. I'll have two semesters to go and so far my GPA is 4.0/4.0. My job responsibility is to collect business requirements from other departments, design the database, write stored procedures, create aspx pages, and create reports. I love what I do and want to advance my career to the next level. What I enjoy most is to design the relational database. I would want to become an .Net Architect eventually. I got an interview. They were looking for asp.net web developer. But I was surprised and disappointed that position would only create aspx pages. I would not even have opportunity to write stored procedures, let alone design the database (those would be provided by another group). Furthermore, they asked me some detailed questions about web forms, some of which I did not know the answers. they might be disappointed as well. I am eager to learn and can apply what I learn to real projects right away. I believe no matter what specific skills I am lacking for a new position, I can catch up quickly. I am looking for $70k range job. The object in my resume is Experience C# Web Application Developer. Due to the experience from last interview, I wonder if the object is really what I want. Could somebody answer my questions? Thank you.

  • In Rails, how to respect :scope when using validates_uniqueness_of in an embedded object form?

    - by mkirk
I have a Book model, which has_many Chapters (which belong_to a Book). I want to ensure uniqueness of Chapter titles, but only within the scope of a single book. The catch is that the form for creating chapters is embedded in the Book model's form (The Book model accepts_nested_attributes_for :chapters). Within the Chapter model: validates_uniqueness_of( :chapter_title, :scope = :book_id, :case_sensitive = false, :message = "No book can have multiple chapters with the same title.") However, when I submit the Book creation form (which also includes multiple embedded Chapter forms), if the chapter title exists in another chapter for a different book, I fail the validation test. Book.create( :chapters => [ Chapter.new(:title => "Introduction"), Chapter.new(:title => "How to build things") => Book 1 successfully created Book.create( :chapters => [ Chapter.new(:title => "Introduction"), Chapter.new(:title => "Destroy things") => Book 2 fails to validate second_book = Book.create( :chapters => [ Chapter.new(:title => "A temporary Introduction title"), Chapter.new(:title => "Destroy things") => Book 2 succesfully created second_book.chapters[0].title= "Introduction" => success second_book.chapters.save => success second_book.save => success Can anyone shed some light on how to do this? Or why it's happening?

  • CSS Container DIV Not Expanding

    - by rsmith84
I've been researching this for hours now and it seems to be an IE thing but my issue is that I have a container DIV that, in IE9, doesn't expand and cuts everything off after about 400px. Chrome and FF work perfectly, of course. Container DIV #main_container{ font-family: arial, verdana; width: 920px; top: 0; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; background-color: #fff; overflow-x: hidden; } Page Container DIV #page_container{ font-family: arial, verdana; font-size: 14px; width: 900px; color: #000; border: 0px solid; overflow: hidden; } And the standard markup of page block looks like this <div id="main_container"> <div id="page_container"> Variable page data goes here </div> </div> Is there an issue with my CSS that I'm missing or is there an IE hack that I need to apply?
