• Few question about client application to be networked

  I have made a registration program. Making use of mysql database. Can I still use the traditional programming for client applications. If I want to network it. Do I have to modify the codes a little in order to make it work? -Please enlighten me, I'm just a beginner. I don't have any idea on how this works.   Hi everyone. I've been tinkering around this application all day long and have had a few difficulties. So basically the bookmarklet needs to allow the user to use a lot of functions from multiple JavaScript files, although all of the functions that the user will use are called from one file. Basically it includes all of the necessary files in order to perform a certain function. It uses jQuery, and I've found that it's really hard to have jQuery running on your bookmarklet.   I am having trouble getting the Android Development Tools to install. I overcame one error involving the GEF. I now have a new error. Missing requirement: Android Development Tools 0.9.6.v201002051504-24846 (com.android.ide.eclipse.adt.feature.group 0.9.6.v201002051504-24846) requires 'org.eclipse.wst.xml.ui 0.0.0' but it could not be found I am running Kubuntu 9.10 and Eclipse 3.5. I have managed to get the Android DDMS to install. But I keep running into blocks with the Development Tools. I have the Android SDK installed. What do I need to do in order get the missing component?

  I'm refactoring a colleague's code, and I have several cases where he's using a cursor to get "the latest row that matches some predicate": His technique is to write the join as a cursor, order it by the date field descending, open the cursor, get the first row, and close the cursor. This requires calling a cursor for each row of the result set that drives this, which is costly for many rows. I'd prefer to be able to join, but what something cheaper than a correlated subquery: select a.id_shared_by_several_rows, a.foo from audit_trail a where a.entry_date = (select max(a.entry_date) from audit_trail b where b.id_shared_by_several_rows = a.id_shared_by_several_rows ); I'm guessing that since this is a common need, there's an Oracle analytic function that does this?

  I was inspired by the good answers from my previous question about SQL. Now this SQL is run on a DB with Interbase 2009. It is about 21 GB in size. SELECT DistanceAsMeters, Bold_Id, Created, AddressFrom.CityName_CO as FromCity, AddressTo.CityName_CO as ToCity FROM AddrDistance LEFT JOIN Address AddressFrom ON AddrDistance.FromAddress = AddressFrom.Bold_Id LEFT JOIN Address AddressTo ON AddrDistance.ToAddress = AddressTo.Bold_Id Where DistanceAsMeters = 0 and PseudoDistanceAsCostKm = 0 and not AddrDistance.bold_id in (select bold_id from DistanceQueryTask) Order By Created Desc There are 840000 rows with AddrDistance 190000 rows with Address and 4 with DistanceQueryTask. The question is, can this be done faster? I guess, the same query is run many times select bold_id from DistanceQueryTask. Note that I'm not interested in stored procedures, just plain SQL :)

• JQUERY-UI Draggables - Seralize is running before the Draggable is complete

  Hello, I'm using the JQUERY-UI draggable plugin. As a setting, when the Draggable is done, using the STOP setting I run a function to seralize a list of LIs to get their order in terms of their IDs. For example, if I have an UL, with a list of LIs with the following IDs: 1,2,3,4,5 If I then move 5, between 2&3, the seralize is returning: 1,2,5,3,4,5 Which makes me think that the JQUERY UI-Draggable STOP is running before the page is finished rendering, or the DOM isn't update? Any ideas on how I can fix this from happening. Is there something I can do in my Seralize funtion to say, wait till JQUERY animations are all done, or stop all that are going on to ensure the DOM is accurate? Thanks

  I have the following table (test_table): date value --------------- d1 10.0 d1 20.0 d2 60.0 d2 10.0 d2 -20.0 d3 40.0 I calculate the running total as follows. I use the same query twice, because first I need to calculate the values for a specifi date, and afterwards I can calculate the running total. Otherwise, joining the two tables where date is not unique, I would get too many results from the join: SELECT t1.date, SUM(t2.value) AS total FROM (SELECT date, SUM(value) AS value FROM test_table GROUP BY date) AS t1 JOIN (SELECT date, SUM(value) AS value FROM test_table GROUP BY date) AS t2 ON t1.date >= t2.date GROUP BY t1.date ORDER BY t1.date This gives me (which is fine): date total ------------- d1 30.0 d2 80.0 d3 120.0 BUT, this query isn't very efficient, because I need to change conditions in two places, if necessary. In production, the test_table is a lot bigger ( 4 Mio. rows), and the query takes too much time to complete. Question: How can I avoid using the same query twice?

Diagram flow: I have programming skills, in fact, i developed some time ago a web server in VB6 who process the querys and when it find the command (http:/serverIP/webform.php?cmd=run&item=any) it do something, but know i really want to develop a solution using the WAMP server. Some people consider the solution of executing a exe when a command is detected a bad solution for security issues, but this specific proyect i have is for the use of only some people (trusted people) who dont have intentions of hacking the server. All I want to do is take a list of variables (that I define) and run the same procedure for them: pseudo-code - not really a good example, but gets the point across... for i in varlist['a','b','c'] do FREQUENCIES VARIABLES=varlist[i] / ORDER=ANALYSIS. end I've noticed that people seem to just use R or Python SPSS plugins to achieve this basic array functionality, but I don't know how soon I can get those configured (if ever) on my installation of SPSS. SPSS has to have some native way to do this...right?

  I'm trying to get a stored procedure to work using the following syntax: select count(sl.Item_Number) as NumOccurrences from spv3SalesDocument as sd left outer join spv3saleslineitem as sl on sd.Sales_Doc_Type = sl.Sales_Doc_Type and sd.Sales_Doc_Num = sl.Sales_Doc_Num where sd.Sales_Doc_Type='ORDER' and sd.Sales_Doc_Num='OREQP0000170' and sl.Item_Number = 'MCN-USF' group by sl.Item_Number having count (distinct sl.Item_Number) = 0 In this particular case when the criteria is not met the query returns no records and the 'count' is just blank. I need a 0 returned so that I can apply a condition instead of just nothing. I'm guessing it is a fairly simple fix but beyond my simple brain capacity. Any help is greatly appreciated. Wally

• How can I Convert XML to an Object using Spring 3.0 mvc while making RESTful request

  Hi, I'm using the Spring 3.0 RC1 framework and I'm currently testing out Spring mvc. I wanted to use Spring mvc to handle restful requests. I have set up my controller to handle the URI request. I am passing in xml with the request. So on the controller I have a method like follows: public void request(RequestObject request) { doSomething(); } I am having a hard time converting the xml to the RequestObject. I haven't seen much documentation on this and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction. I'm guess that you would have to annotate the RequestObject using JAXB or something in order to tell Spring to convert the xml file to RequestObject but I'm not sure. Thanks for all of your help!!

(and ofcourse "event handling" the events triggered by the user's actions). I know about the page life cycle and the order of events that happens when a page is requested etc.. . Is it normal that, generally, in a data-driven page, for example, I'm not using any of the "pre_render", "page_unload", "pre_init" etc.. event handlers? or am I missing something here? any guidelines would help me a lot, including links or whatever you think that would instruct me well. thanks.

• Dispelling the UIImage imageNamed: FUD

  I see a lot of people saying imageNamed is bad but equal numbers of people saying the performance is good - especially when rendering UITableViews. See this SO question for example or this article on iPhoneDeveloperTips.com UIImage's imageNamed method used to leak so it was best avoided but has been fixed in recent releases. I'd like to understand the caching algorithm better in order to make a reasoned decision about where I can trust the system to cache my images and where I need to go the extra mile and do it myself. My current basic understanding is that it's a simple NSMutableDictionary of UIImages referenced by filename. It gets bigger and when memory runs out it gets a lot smaller. For example, does anyone know for sure that the image cache behind imageNamed does not respond to didReceiveMemoryWarning? It seems unlikely that Apple would not do this. If you have any insight into the caching algorithm, please post it here.

I have two buttons "add Row", "Del Row" and I have some records displayed from db. when ever "add row" is clicked a new record, row header should be added to JTable with an auto increment number displayed in sequential order to the JTable Row Header. During deletion using "Del row " button the record has to be deleted & not its corresponding header so that next rows got updated to the previous headers & the auto increment number remain unchanged and always be in sequence. please help me on this regard.   Hello everybody, We are developing an ASP.NET MVC Application that currently uses it's own databse ApplicationData for the domain models and another one Membership for the user management / membership provider. We do access restrictions using data-annotations in our controllers. [Authorize(Roles = "administrators, managers")] This worked great for simple use cases. As we are scaling our application our customer wants to restrict specific users to access specific areas of our ApplicationData database. Each of our products contains a foreign key referring to the region the product was assembled in. A user story would be: Users in the role NewYorkManagers should only be able to edit / see products that are assembled in New York. We created a placeholder table UserRightsRegions that contains the UserId and the RegionId. How can I link both the ApplicationData and the Membership databases in order to work properly / having cross-database-key-references? (Is something like this even possible?) All help is more than appreciated!

  I'm trying to draw Arabic text onto a Bitmap for display: Bitmap img = Bitmap.createBitmap( (int) f+100, 300, Config.RGB_565); Canvas c = new Canvas(); c.setBitmap( img ); mFace = Typeface.createFromAsset(getAssets(),"DejaVuSansCondensed.ttf"); mPaint.setTypeface(mFace); content = "????"; content = ArabicUtilities.reshape( content ); System.out.println("Drawing text: " + content); c.drawText(content, 30, 30, mPaint); The ArabicUtilities class is a tool to reshape the unicode text so the letters are connected. see: http://github.com/agawish/Better-Arabic-Reshaper/ However, the bitmap that is generated looks like this: When it should look like ???? I believe the issue is because, unlike a TextView, the Bitmap class is not BiDi aware, so it draws the letters from left to write. Try as I might, I can't figure out how to draw the text in the correct order.

• Why does this window object not have the eval function?

  I ran into an interesting (?) problem in the YUI rich edit demo on IE. When looking at the window object for the content editable frame used as the browser I see that the eval function is undefined (by running the following). javascript:alert(document.getElementById("editor_editor").contentWindow.eval) This only happens on IE (I checked on IE6 and IE8), and it doesn't happen on Firefox or Chrome. All the other window functions and properties seem to be in order, now I realise that eval is not really defined on the window but on the global object but my understanding was that in browsers the window is the global object (also eval does appear on all other windows so why not on this one?). Does anyone know if this is a know bug/limitation in IE and how I can get to eval in the context of the global object of this frame? (I need the side effects to be available to anything running from within this frame).

  Hello again, I was doing some reading and have even gotten a "master" SPI working on my microcontroller. Here is my question, basically if the master wants to initialize a write to the slave we write to the SSPBUF, how do we control what the slave responds with? The datasheet doesn't seem really clear to me the order of events in that case. I.E. Master puts a char into the SSPBUF, this initiates the SPI module to send data to the slave, during the shift, the slave returns a byte. In the slave side, is there something that tells you you have incoming data, and you can write to your SSPBUF first, THEN accept the data? OR Do you have to write to the SSPBUF the first "return value" you want sent back before the master can have an opportunity to initiate a transfer?

• problem with dmg file

  Hello, I have created a dmg file named try.dmg which contains an executable application myapplication.app together with a compiled library mylibrary.lib; I used Disk Utility in order to create the try.dmg file. I mounted the try.dmg file on my computer and I opened the application myapplication.app with no problems. Still, I tried to do the same thing on another Macintosh, with the same operating system Mac OS X, but I got some problems: I mounted the try.dmg file and then when I tried to open the application myapplication.app I got an error message, that the application has quit unexpectedly. Can someone explain me what is it happening? How come this try.dmg file can be mounted and the application can be opened with no problems on my computer with Mac OS X, but on another computer with Mac OS X, after I mount the try.dmg file I get errors when I try opening the application? • How does the momentum/inertial scroll work with the Magic Mouse on NSScrollView?

  When you scroll with the newer Apple Magic Mouse (at least on 10.6, I can't confirm any previous Mac OS) you get inertial scroll like scrolling on iPhone (that is, after a flick of the finger to scroll, it doesn't abruptly stop, but instead gradually slows down). This behaviour is "for free" with all NSScrollViews, it would appear. There are exceptional cases, such as Tweetie for Mac (I've heard Tweetie was written with a custom Table View class that works akin to how UITableView works on iPhone). My question is, how do the scroll views know how to do this inertial scrolling? My guess is the mouse [driver] repeatedly sends scroll events with a dampening scroll magnitude (or something like that) over the scroll period. But I'm not really sure how it works. I am having some scrolling problems in my scrollview class and I'm trying to figure out why (obviously we don't have the source code to Tweetie to see why it doesn't get the proper scrolling), but just trying to better understand how it works in order to fix my own problems.

  Hi again guys. I'm trying to access my iPhone's device keychain. I want to access in order to create a simple user-password value intended for a log in function. I'm guessing this means I don't actually have access to my iPhone's keychain? Is there a way to allow access? Thanks for your time.
