  • Biggest GWT Pitfalls?

    - by agartzke
I'm at the beginning/middle of a project that we chose to implement using GWT. Has anyone encountered any major pitfalls in using GWT (and GWT-EXT) that were unable to be overcome? How about from a performance perspective? A couple things that we've seen/heard already include: Google not being able to index content CSS and styling in general seems to be a bit flaky Looking for any additional feedback on these items as well. Thanks!

  • Django filter vs exclude

    - by Enrico
Is there a difference between filter and exclude in django? If I have self.get_query_set().filter(modelField=x) and I want to add another criteria, is there a meaningful difference between to following two lines of code? self.get_query_set().filter(user__isnull=False, modelField=x) self.get_query_set().filter(modelField=x).exclude(user__isnull=True) is one considered better practice or are they the same in both function and performance?

  • Programmers - I have a question for you.

    - by jens
My boyfriend does coding (Rails/C?/PHP) for a job and I don't know what he would appreciate on our first anniversary. Does anyone have any ideas? Yes, he's stereotypical geek, but I'd rather not give a pack of Bawls for an anniversary gift. He dislikes going anywhere, so "experiences" like going to an event are out. Maybe I should just have a giant LAN party in the house.

  • What's the simplest way to call Http GET url using Delphi?

    - by Mohammed Nasman
There's a web services I want to call in my application, I can use it with importing the WSDL or by just use "HTTP GET" with the URL and parameters, so I prefer the later because it's simple thing. I know I can use indy idhttp.get, to do the job, but this is very simple thing and I don't want to add complex indy code to my application. UPDATE: sorry if I was not clear, I meant by "not to add complex indy code", that I don't want add indy components for just this simple task, and prefer more lighter way for that.

  • speed: XmlTextReader vs LinqtoXml

    - by Michel
Hi, i'm about to read some xml (who isn't :-)) This time however it's a lot of data: about 30.000 records with 5 properties, all in one file. Till now i've always read that the XmlTextReader is the fastest way to read xml data, but now there also is the (nice sytax of) linqtoXml. Does anybody know any performance issues, or that there aren't any, with LinqToXml? Michel

  • ASP.NET Session Expired error when viewing reports using ReportViewer web control in SSRS 2008

    - by RKP
Hi, I am getting "ASP.NET Session Expired" error when viewing SQL Server 2008 reports using the Microsoft ReportViewer web control. I found this article http://balanagaraj.wordpress.com/2009/09/25/session-has-expired-in-asp-net/ which suggests to use one worker process in IIS application pool, but that may affect performance, is there any other solution for this? I tried setting "AsyncRendering" to false already and that didn't work.

  • Why does Celery work in Python shell, but not in my Django views? (import problem)

    - by TIMEX
I installed Celery (latest stable version.) I have a directory called /home/myuser/fable/jobs. Inside this directory, I have a file called tasks.py: from celery.decorators import task from celery.task import Task class Submitter(Task): def run(self, post, **kwargs): return "Yes, it works!!!!!!" Inside this directory, I also have a file called celeryconfig.py: BROKER_HOST = "localhost" BROKER_PORT = 5672 BROKER_USER = "abc" BROKER_PASSWORD = "xyz" BROKER_VHOST = "fablemq" CELERY_RESULT_BACKEND = "amqp" CELERY_IMPORTS = ("tasks", ) In my /etc/profile, I have these set as my PYTHONPATH: PYTHONPATH=/home/myuser/fable:/home/myuser/fable/jobs So I run my Celery worker using the console ($ celeryd --loglevel=INFO), and I try it out. I open the Python console and import the tasks. Then, I run the Submitter. >>> import fable.jobs.tasks as tasks >>> s = tasks.Submitter() >>> s.delay("abc") <AsyncResult: d70d9732-fb07-4cca-82be-d7912124a987> Everything works, as you can see in my console [2011-01-09 17:30:05,766: INFO/MainProcess] Task tasks.Submitter[d70d9732-fb07-4cca-82be-d7912124a987] succeeded in 0.0398268699646s: But when I go into my Django's views.py and run the exact 3 lines of code as above, I get this: [2011-01-09 17:25:20,298: ERROR/MainProcess] Unknown task ignored: "Task of kind 'fable.jobs.tasks.Submitter' is not registered, please make sure it's imported.": {'retries': 0, 'task': 'fable.jobs.tasks.Submitter', 'args': ('abc',), 'expires': None, 'eta': None, 'kwargs': {}, 'id': 'eb5c65b4-f352-45c6-96f1-05d3a5329d53'} Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/myuser/mysite-env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/celery/worker/listener.py", line 321, in receive_message eventer=self.event_dispatcher) File "/home/myuser/mysite-env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/celery/worker/job.py", line 299, in from_message eta=eta, expires=expires) File "/home/myuser/mysite-env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/celery/worker/job.py", line 243, in __init__ self.task = tasks[self.task_name] File "/home/myuser/mysite-env/lib/python2.6/site-packages/celery/registry.py", line 63, in __getitem__ raise self.NotRegistered(str(exc)) NotRegistered: "Task of kind 'fable.jobs.tasks.Submitter' is not registered, please make sure it's imported." • Custom Event Handler

    - by Dremation
I have a function that I'm using while(true) to repeatedly scan memory addresses of an application to detect change. I sleep the thread 1 second between iterations and this helps performance. However, is there a way to create a custom event handler to do away with the loops?

  • Multithreading or task parallel library

    - by Bruce Adams
I have an application which performs 30 independent tasks simultaneously using multithreading, each task retrieves data over http, performs a calculation and returns a result to the ui thread. Can I use tpl to perform the same tasks? Does tpl create 30 new threads and spread them over all the available cores, or does it just split the tasks over the available cores and use one thread per core? Will there be a performance boost using tpl over multithreading in this case?

  • defining asmx webservice class objects as static

    - by Usama Khalil
Hi, is it better to declare Webservice class object instances as static as the .asmx webservice classes have only static methods. what i want is that i declare and instantiate webservice asmx class as static in aspx Page Behind Class. and on every event call on that page i could perform operation against webservice methods. is it beneficial in terms of performance? Thanks Usama

  • How do I use Loki's small object allocator?

    - by Gregory
I need to use Loki's small object allocator but I am very confused as to how it works. I've read the documentation and lots of forums but it doesnt make sense: some of them say to use the stl, others use custom allocators. I just need to be able to test its performance with allocating and deallocating objects of different sizes. Could someone please provide a small example of how to use it?

  • Howcan I get started with Spring Batch?

    - by C. Ross
I'm trying to learn Spring Batch, but the startup guide is very confusing. Comments like You can get a pretty good idea about how to set up a job by examining the unit tests in the org.springframework.batch.sample package (in src/main/java) and the configuration in src/main/resources/jobs. aren't exactly helpful. Also I find the Sample project very complicated (17 non-empty Namespaces with 109 classes)! Is there a simpler place to get started with Spring Batch?
