• Updates to NSDictionary attribute in CoreData not saving

  I have created an Entity in CoreData that includes a Transformable attribute type implemented as an NSDictionary. The NSDictionary attribute only contains values of a custom class. The properties of the custom class are all of type NSString. The custom class complies with NSCoding implementing: -(void)encodeWithCoder:(NSCoder*)coder; -(id)initWithCoder:(NSCoder *)coder When saving the Entity for the first time all attributes including the Transformable (NSDictionary) type are properly saved in the DB. When the same Entity is fetched from the DB and updated (including the Transformable attribute) it seems to be updated properly. However, when the app is closed and then reopened fetching the Entity does not show the updated Transformable attribute-type though the rest of the attributes of type NSDate and NSString are up-to-date. The Transformable attribute is the original saved value not the updated value. Is this a problem with KVO or am I missing something else when trying to save an NSDictionary filled with a custom class to CoreData?

  I found this kind of interesting problem in MySQL InnoDB engine, could anyone explain why the engine always claim it's a deadlock. First, I created a table with a single row, single column: CREATE TABLE `SeqNum` (`current_seq_num` bigint(30) NOT NULL default '0', PRIMARY KEY (`current_seq_num`) ) ENGINE=InnoDB DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 | Now, I have two MySQL connector threads, In thread1: mysql> begin; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) mysql> select `current_seq_num` into @curr_seq FROM SeqNum FOR UPDATE; Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec) Now, in thread2, I did the exactly same: mysql> begin; Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec) mysql> select `current_seq_num` into @curr_seq FROM SeqNum FOR UPDATE; before the default innodb_lock_wait_timeout, the thread2 just wait for thread1 to release its exclusive lock on the table, and it's normal. However, in thread1, if I input the following update query: mysql> update SeqNum set `current_seq_num` = 8; ERROR 1213 (40001): Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting transaction Now, thread2 get the select query finished because thread1 quits. In addition, in thread1, if I input the update query with a where clause, it can be executed very well: mysql> update SeqNum set `current_seq_num` = 8 where `current_seq_num` =5 Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec) Could anyone explain this?

• solution on SP and EF & Ria Service

  As EF 4.0 released, more support to SQL server Stored procedure. Complex Type can be generated automatically for result dataset of SP. But complex type not support by Ria Service. When I try to use ria service combined with EF 4.0, I want to get dataset by SP. This result is not mapped to any entity/table. Some sulutions suggested by community are: 1. Create view to map sp result. (but for EF, if there is no ID or primary, can't be map to any entity) 2. Create Entity to map sp result.(for this, you even need to map SP for CRUD even though I don't need CUD on this sp result) Also above solution can't be automated. As Database objects maybe changed with the time, auto update edm will lost above solution. So what's the solution? I want to put data operation back to DB as possible, so that many changes can be done in DB and no need to rebuild .net assemblies(this cause redeploy).

  Is there any alternate way to create stored procedure without putting all query in one long string if criteria of WWHERE clause can be different. Suppose I have Orders table I want to create stored procedure on this table and there are three column on which I wnat to filter records. 1- CustomerId, 2- SupplierId, 3- ProductId. If user only give CustomerId in search criteria then query should be like following SELECT * FROM Orders WHERE Orders.CustomerId = @customerId And if user only give ProductId in search criteria then query should be like following SELECT * FROM Orders WHERE Orders.ProductId = @productId And if user only all three CustomerId, ProductId, and SupplierId is given then all three Ids will be used in WHERE to filter. There is also chance that user don't want to filter record then query should be like following SELCT * FROM Orders Whenever I have to create this kind of procedure I put all this in string and use IF conditions to check if arguments (@customeId or @supplierId etc) has values.   I'm wondering if theres a best practice for what I'm trying to accomplish... First we have the model categories, categories, has_many posts. Now lets say, users add posts. Now, I have a page, that I want to display only the current user's posts by category. Lets say we have the following categories: A, B, and C User 1, has posted in Categories A and B. In my view I have something like: <% @categories.select {|cat| cat.posts.count > 0}.each do |category| %> <%= category.name %><br/> <% category.posts.select {|post| post.user == current_user}.each do |post| %> <%= post.content %><br/> <% end %> <% end %> For the most part its almost there. The issue is, it will still show an empty category if any posts have been entered in it at all (even if the current user has not input posts into that category.   So I've been working with RLIKE to pull some data in a new application and mostly enjoying it. To date I've been using RLIKE queries to return 3 types of results (files, directories and everything). Same goes for the /.comments and all such meta data will always be in the same format: /.[sometext] I'd hoped to use this feature extensively throughout my application, so I'm hoping there might be a very simple answer. • Wiki Database, is there one?

  I was searching the net for something like a wiki database, just like wikipedia but instead stores structured content, editable by users. What I was looking for was an online database accessible by everyone where people can design the schema and data with proper versioning of both schema and data. I couldn't find any such site. I am not sure if it is my search skills or if there really is no wiki database as of now. Does anyone out there know anything like this? I think there is a great potential for something like this. A possible example will be a website with a GUI for querying a MySQL DB where any website visitor can create DB objects and populate data.

• Empty list in appengine datastore: java vs python

  I have the following java model class in AppEngine: public class Xyz ... { @Persistent private Set<Long> uvw; } When saving an object Xyz with an empty set uvw in Java, I get a "null" field (as listed in the appengine datastore viewer). When I try to load the same object in python (through remote_api), as defined by the following python model class: class Xys(db.Model): uvw = db.ListProperty(int) I get a "BadValueError: Property uvw is required". When saving another object of the same class in python with an empty uvw list, the datastore viewer print a "missing" field. Apparently empty lists storage handling differs between Java and python and lead to "incompatible" objects. Thus my question: Is there a way to, either: force Java to store an empty list as a "missing" field, force Python to gracefully accept a "null" list as an empty list when loading the object? Or any other suggestion on how to handle empty list field in both languages. Thanks for your answers!

The situation: I have an interface in that a user selects just hours and minutes. Then, he saves the information (so, I have to get the hours and minutes from UIDatePicker via code to save in a DB). When the user is editing the information saved previously, I want to start the interface with the saved hours/minutes (so, I have to set the UIDatePicker hours and minutes retrieved from DB via code).   My web app solution consists of 3 projects: Web App (ASP.NET MVC) Business Logic Layer (Class Library) Database Layer (Entity Framework) I want to use Ninject to manage the lifetime of the DataContext generated by the Entity Framework in the Database Layer. The Business Logic layer consists of classes which reference repositories (located in the database layer) and my ASP.NET MVC app references the business logic layer's service classes to run code. Each repository creates an instance of the MyDataContext object from the Entity Framework Repository public class MyRepository { private MyDataContext db; public MyRepository { this.db = new MyDataContext(); } // methods } Business Logic Classes public class BizLogicClass { private MyRepository repos; public MyRepository { this.repos = new MyRepository(); } // do stuff with the repos } Will Ninject handle the lifetime of MyDataContext despite the lengthy dependency chain from the Web App to the Data Layer?

  the question is probably extremely easy to resolve, but I need to resolve it because I need to carry on with my project. I am using SQLEXPRESS 2008 at home, and I've been working on an ASP.NET MVC app that stores my DB in an mdf file in the project's folder. The problem is that the SQL Server in the Uni labs is SQL SERVER 2005, and when I try to open the mdf file with the VS Server Explorer,It says that the version of the mdf file is more than the server can accept. The only oprion that comes to my mind is exporting the DB as an sql file, just like I've done it thousand times with phpmyadmin. the thing is that the SQL MANAGEMENT STUDIO EXPRESS is not the most usable tool in the world, and for some strange reason all the articles I could find in Google were irrelevant. Please, help.

  I have an issue when the T4 linq templates generate the classes for my MySql db using subsonic 3. It looks like one of our table names "operator" is causing problems in the Context.cs generated class. In the following line of code in Context.cs Visual Studio sees <operator> as a c# operator and generates a compilation error of "Type expected" public Query<operator> operators { get; set; } Is there anyway I can work around this without having to rename my database table and column names? For example hard coding something in Settings.ttinclude to use or map different names to specific db tables and columns?

  Hi Everybody, I am using IBM-Informix for my school project as part of "Informix on-campus" ativity conduted by IBM. I am using spatial datablade to store spatial data. My spatial data table looks like, CREATE TABLE xmlTest (row_id integer NOT NULL,pre integer, post integer,parent integer,tagname varchar(40,1),point ST_POINT); Then I inserted the spatial data into the table. Now I am trying to select the 'Points' lying under given 'polygon', where the co-ordinates of the polygon are dynamic i.e co-ordinates will be decided in the 'select' query. My query is like SELECT v2.* FROM xmlTest v1,xmlTest v2 WHERE ST_Contains(ST_Polygon(ST_LineFromText('linestring (0 0, 22000 0,22000 22000,0 22000,0 0)',5)),ST_Point(v1.pre,v1.post,5)) AND v1.tagname like 'n1' AND ST_Contains(ST_Polygon(ST_LineFromText('linestring (0 0,v1.pre 0,v1.pre v1.post,0 v1.post,0 0 )',5)),ST_Point(v2.pre,v2.post,5)) AND v2.tagname like 'n2' however it is giving me error as "(USE31) - Too few points for geometry type in ST_LineFromText.", in the second linefromtext function. I checked the number of parameters for linestring function, but could not find the source of error. I think,linestring function's parameters should be fixed values and not the variable like in this query. Is it right? Then what is the alternate way, where I can specify my polygon co-ordinates dynamically? or is there any mistake in my query? I hope my question is clear. I appreciate your help!

What bothers me is that the snippet of code above returns no results; essentially meaning that the way that the query is being executed is wonky. I executed the SQL query (including the set variables with actual values, and it returned the correct number of results). If I modify the query to just be a simple SELECT FROM query (SELECT * FROM poi_table) it returns results. What is going on here?
