  • Databound Checkbox list with textboxes in a webform

    Hi all, I'm having trouble coming up with a solution for the following problem and i was wondering if someone here would help me out. I need to pull a list of supplies from a db table and list them along with two textboxes (one for quantity, and another for manufacturer) so the list would look something like this. checkbox for supply 1 | Quantity | Manufacturer checkbox for supply 2 | Quantity | Manufacturer .. I also need to store all of the checked items in a db table. I'm not sure how i should go about doing this. I've heard some talk about a repeater control being useful but i've not come across any examples that do this type of thing. Thanks in advance

  • retreving long text (CLOB) using CFQuery

    I am using CFQuery to retrieve the CLOB field from Oracle DB. If the CLOB filed contains the Data less than ~ 8000, then I can see retrieved the value ( the o/p), however If the value in CLOB field size is more than 8000 chars, then its not retrieving the value. in <cfdump> i can see the query retrieved as 'empty String' though the value exists in Oracle DB. I am using the Oracle Driver in CFadim console enabled 'Enable long text retrieval (CLOB).' and 'Enable binary large object retrieval (BLOB). ' set 'Long Text Buffer (chr)' and 'Blob Buffer(bytes) ' values to 6400000 any suggestions to retrieve the full text?

    I am trying to use Heroku and apparently Postgresql is a lot more strict than SQL for aggregate functions. When I am pushing to Heroku I am getting an error stating the below. On another question I asked I received some guidance that said I should just add the columns to my group by clause and I am not sure how to do that. Both RACountryPanels and RAFieldVO are second level cached. If I check the 2nd level cache content I can see that it cointains the RAFields and the RACountryPanels as well and I can see the select .. from CTRY where ctry_cd_id=... in query cache region as well. When I call the servlet it seems that it is using the cache, but second time not. If I check the content of the cache using JMX, everything seems to be ok, but when I measure the object access time, it seems that it does not always use the cache. Cheers Zoltan

    Compiled query: public static Func<OperationalDataContext, short, Machine> QueryMachineById = CompiledQuery.Compile((OperationalDataContext db, short machineID) => db.Machines.Where(m => m.MachineID == machineID).SingleOrDefault()); It looks like compiled query is caching Machine object and returning the same object even if query is called from new DataContext (I’m disposing DataContext in the service but I’m getting Machine from previous DataContext). I use POCOs and XML mapping. Revised: It looks like compiled query is returning result from new data context and it is not using the one that I passed in compiled-query. Therefore I can not reuse returned object and link it to another object obtained from datacontext thru non compiled queries.   • Handling database failover for Rails applications on FreeBSD

    I'm working on implementing database (Postgresql) failover for a Rails app that runs with Passenger/FreeBSD. Due to certain constraints regarding the server OS, it's necessary to continue using FreeBSD (as opposed to say, Ubuntu). I'm finding it to be quite a challenge to have failover handled within the Rails application, by way of a customised database adapter due to the fact that this application will be load-balanced between several webservers, and the multiple Rails processes that Passenger spawned in each webserver. I previously looked at setting up Pacemaker/Corosync to manage database server failover on a common IP but unfortunately I wasn't able to get past building the packages on FreeBSD. It does work rather well on Ubuntu 10.04 but I'm not likely to be able to use Ubuntu due to the OS constraints. I'm considering a custom witness daemon that simply pings the primary DB server, and this witness daemon switches all the webservers to the standby DB server when the primary becomes uncontactable (permanently/temporarily), to avoid split-brain. Though I would really like to know if there is a way to get Pacemaker(or something similar) to do the switch on FreeBSD.

    Hi guys! so as title says, I would like to hear your advices what are the most important questions to consider and ask end-users before designing database for their application. We are to make database-oriented app, with special attenion to pay on db security (access control, encryption, integrity, backups)... Database will also keep some personal information about people, which is considered sensitive by law regulations, so security must be good. I worked on school projects with databases, but this is first time working "in real world", where this db security has real implications. So I found some advices and questions to ask on internet, but here I always get best ones. All help appreciated! Thank you!

I am sending mail from my server directly, but receiving mail is done via Yandex (email provider). Since the server hosts forum, I prefer to send mail directly from it because using another mail provider can slow things.     Due to a 3rd party application's requirement, I may be forced to use 32-bit client of Oracle 10gR2 on the application server to connect to a 64-bit DB server oracle 10gR2 (10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit;another box). The OS is SUSE Linux ver 10. Platform is x86. There are no problems connecting to 64-bit DB server via 32-bit client. I have tested this. Does this result in performance degradation? Does Oracle or anyone else has any recommendations about this kind of scenario? Searched the net without much gain. Please help. Thanks.

    Variations on my problem have been discussed elsewhere, so I hope I'm not duplicating! I'm implementing a simple Private Messaging System as part of a web app. I've got an annoying problem though when dynamically inserting text into a textarea box in order to make a reply. Getting the content and displaying it is fine, but I can't work out how to format it correctly. Obviously, I can't use html tags, but plain text formatting like line breaks and carriage returns seem to be ignored too. This happens when an existing message is being displayed either as part of a reply or as a thread in a new message. How do I check what formatting is being saved in my db? Or indeed what formatting is being sent back from my db?!

  • Combobox in bound DataGridView

    Hi. I've got a DataGridView control which is bound to a database table. I want one of the columns in the gridview to be of combobox type. The combobox should contain a list of hardcoded strings, which is the same for all rows in the datagridview. One of the fields in my database table is an index for this list of hardcoded strings. I've programatically added a new column to the gridview of type "DataGridViewComboBoxColumn", which successfully creates the column with comboboxes in it. However, that's then not bound to the index field in my DB table. The index field in my DB table is actually automatically bound to a column via the DataAdapter::Fill method. I've set this column to hidden, so it's hidden to the user. Obviously just before updating the dataadapter, I can programatically fixup the hidden column in my datatable with the SelectedIndex of my combobox. Just wondering if there's a better way of doing this? Thankyou for any help with this, Dan.

    I'm working on a proof of concept app for a twitter style social network with about 500k users. I'm unsure of how best to design the 'schema' should I embed a user's subscriptions or have a separate 'subscriptions' collection and use db references? If I embed, I still have to perform a query to get all of a user's followers. e.g. Given the following user: { "username" : "alan", "photo": "123.jpg", "subscriptions" : [ {"username" : "john", "status" : "accepted"}, {"username" : "paul", "status" : "pending"} ] } to find all of alan's subscribers, I'd have to run something like this: db.users.find({'subscriptions.username' : 'alan'}); from a performance point of view, is that any worse or better than having a separate subscriptions collection? also, when displaying a list of subscriptions/subscribers, I am currently having problems with n+1 because the subscription document tells me the username of the target user but not other attributes I may need such as the profile photo. Are there any recommended practices for such situations? thanks Alan

    TinyMCE has always been a little difficult to align images. Either the align tag, or adding style="float: left;" has been it solution. Ideally I would just like to add class="left" or class="right" so that I can set the border and margins of the image. Up until now the only way to do this without using the advimage plugin was to insert the image, then select it, the select a style from the style menu. Ideally I should be able to use the align control in the image dialogue to set the alignment class or use the alignment controls on the toolbar when in the main editing window. I have just again started looking at a solution to this, now that IE6 is finally starting to die, I can use CSS attributes in selectors, so IMG[style="float: left;"] {} Works, but I would rather use a class incase there are any other style attributes which will cause the selector to fail. And it doesn't work in IE6, and you know some corporate clients will still be running the bloody thing! So I looked through the TinyMCE documentation and found the formats configuration option, that seems to allow you to specify how tinyMCE applies code for various operations. Here I can add the IMG tag as a selector, and have classes: "left" for the alignleft function. This applies the class correctly when the alignment is selected from the toolbar, but it still writes an inline style when the alignment is selected through the image dialogue. Am I doing something wrong or is there a better way of doing this that will allow my clients to select image alignment from both the image dialogue and the toolbar, whilst applying a class to the image?

    How ca I use Subsonic's Find<T> method to search for rows with a field containing the "null" value. For the sake of the discussion, let's assume I have a c# class called "Visit" which contains a nullable DateTime field called "SynchronizedOn" and also let's assume that the Subsonic migration has created the corresponding "Visits" table and the "SynchronizedOn" field. If I was to write the SQL query myself, I would write something like: SELECT * FROM Visits WHERE SynchronizedOn IS NULL When I use the following code: var visits = myRepository.Find<Visit>(x => x.SynchronizedOn == null); Subsonic turns it into the following SQL query: SELECT * FROM Visits WHERE SynchronizedOn == null which never returns any rows. I tried the following code but it throws an error: visits = repository.Find<Visit>(x => x.SynchronizedOn.HasValue); I was able to use the following syntax: var query = from v in repository.All<Visit>() where v.SynchronizedOn == null orderby v.CreatedOn select v; visits = query.ToList<Visit>(); but it's not as nice an short as using the Find<T> method. Anyone knows how I can specify the "SynchronizedOn IS NULL" condition in the Find<T> method?

I'm sure that its a matter of walking across all the interfaces of the type to find the first that matches the requirements, but I'm having a hard time finding the generic IEnumerable< among them.     I have the following SQL which I am trying to translate to LINQ: SELECT f.value FROM period as p LEFT OUTER JOIN facts AS f ON p.id = f.periodid AND f.otherid = 17 WHERE p.companyid = 100 I have seen the typical implementation of the left outer join (ie. into x from y in x.DefaultIfEmpty() etc.) but am unsure how to introduce the other join condition ('AND f.otherid = 17') EDIT Why is the 'AND f.otherid = 17' condition part of the JOIN instead of in the WHERE clause? Because f may not exist for some rows and I still want these rows to be included. If the condition is applied in the WHERE clause, after the JOIN - then I don't get the behaviour I want. Unfortunately this: from p in context.Periods join f in context.Facts on p.id equals f.periodid into fg from fgi in fg.DefaultIfEmpty() where p.companyid == 100 && fgi.otherid == 17 select f.value seems to be equivalent to this: SELECT f.value FROM period as p LEFT OUTER JOIN facts AS f ON p.id = f.periodid WHERE p.companyid = 100 && AND f.otherid = 17 which is not quite what I'm after.

The code as it is above doesn't work, it doesn't return anything so the while loop isn't executed. If I replace $_GET['index'] with a number, like 10, it works just fine, it returns 10 rows. Echoing $_GET['index'] displays a number, so it should pass a number. I've also tried bindParam, but the result is same. Why isn't this working?

I'd like to provide a name to the parameter in a manner something like this: SELECT Firstname, Address, Postcode FROM customers WHERE Surname = ?surname ", When I try this it just chokes.
