  • How do I get source file information with dumpbin /symbols when compiling with VS 2005?

    - by Thomas Dartsch
    I have a tool which uses the output of dumpbin /symbols to do some dependency analysis with our C/C++ libraries. When we compiled the libs with VS 6.0, the dumpbin COFF SYMBOL TABLE contained entries like 000 00000008 DEBUG notype Filename | .file x:\mydir\mysource.c allowing me to get the relationship between sources and defined/used symbols, which is essential for my tool. When we compile with VS 2005, these entries are missing. When I look at the libs with a hex editor, it seems that there is no filename information at all included in the binary files, so it seems not to be a dumbin problem but is compilation related. So I'm looking for a way to get the Filename entries back into my libraries when compiling with VS 2005.

  • How can I make my counter look less fake?

    - by Eddy Pronk
    I'm using this bit of code to display the number of users on a site. My customer is complaining it looks fake. Any suggestions? var visitors = 187584; var updateVisitors = function() { visitors++; var vs = visitors.toString(), i = Math.floor(vs.length / 3), l = vs.length % 3; while (i-->0) if (!(l==0&&i==0)) vs = vs.slice(0,i*3+l) + ',' + vs.slice(i*3+l); $('#count').text(vs); setTimeout(updateVisitors, Math.random()*2000); }; setTimeout(updateVisitors, Math.random()*2000);

  • How to version SQL Server schema using VS 2005?

    - by Mike
    I am new to C# programming and am coming to it most recently from working with Ruby on Rails. In RoR, I am used to being able to write schema migrations for the database. I would like to be able to do something similar for my C#/SQLServer projects. Does such a tool exist for the VS 2005 toolset? Would it be wise to use RoR migrations with SQL Server directly outside of VS 2005? In other words, I would handle all schema versioning using ActiveRecord:Migration from Rails but nothing else. If I do handle migrations outside of C# and VS 2005 with another tool, is RoR ActiveRecord:Migration the best thing to use or is there something which is a better fit?

  • RegexClean Transformation

    Use the power of regular expressions to cleanse your data right there inside the Data Flow. This transformation includes a full user interface for simple configuration, as well as advanced features such as error output configuration. Two regular expressions are used, a match expression and a replace expression. The transformation is designed around the named capture groups or match groups, and even supports multiple expressions. This allows for rich and complex expressions to be built, all through an easy to reuse transformation where a bespoke Script Component was previously the only alternative. Some simple properties are available for each column selected – Behaviour The two behaviour modes offer similar functionality but with a difference. Replace, replaces tokens with the input, and Emit overwrites the whole string. Cascade Cascade allows you to define multiple expressions, each on a new line. The match expression will be processed into one operation per line, which are then processed in order at run-time. Multiple replace expressions can also be specified, again each on a new line. If there is no corresponding replace expression for a match expression line, then the last replace expression will be used instead. It is common to have multiple match expressions, but only a single replace expression. Match Expression The expression used to define the named capture groups. This is where you can analyse the data, and tag or name elements within it as found by the match expression. Replace Expression The replace determines the final output. It will reference the named groups from the match expression and assembles them into the final output. If you want to use regular expressions to validate data then try the Regular Expression Transformation. Quick Start Guide Select a column. A new output column is created for each selected column; there is no option for in-place replacement of column values. One input column can be used to populate multiple output columns, just select the column again in the lower grid, using the Input Columns drop-down selector. Amend the output column name and size as required. They default to the same as the input column selected. Amend the behaviour as required, the default is Replace. Amend the cascade option as required, the default is true. Finally enter your match and replace regular expressions Quick Sample #1 Parse an email address and extract the user and domain portions. Format as a web address passing the user portion as a URL parameter. This uses two match groups, user and host, which correspond to the text before the @ and after it respectively. Behaviour is Emit, and cascade of false, we only have a single match expression. Match Expression ^(?<user>[^@]+)@(?<host>.+)$ Replace Expression - http://www.${host}?user=${user} Results Sample Input Sample Output [email protected] http://www.adventure-works.com?user=zheng0 The component is provided as an MSI file, however to complete the installation, you will have to add the transformation to the Visual Studio toolbox manually. Right-click the toolbox, and select Choose Items.... Select the SSIS Data Flow Items tab, and then check the RegexClean Transformation from the list. Downloads The RegexClean Transformation is available for both SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008. Please choose the version to match your SQL Server version, or you can install both versions and use them side by side if you have both SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 installed. • HSSFS Part 2.1 - Parsing @@VERSION

    - by Most Valuable Yak (Rob Volk)
    For Part 2 of the Handy SQL Server Function Series I decided to tackle parsing useful information from the @@VERSION function, because I am an idiot.  It turns out I was confused about CHARINDEX() vs. PATINDEX() and it pretty much invalidated my original solution.  All is not lost though, this mistake turned out to be informative for me, and hopefully for you. Referring back to the "Version" view in the prelude I started with the following query to extract the version number: SELECT DISTINCT SQLVersion, SUBSTRING(VersionString,PATINDEX('%-%',VersionString)+2, 12) VerNum FROM VERSION I used PATINDEX() to find the first hyphen "-" character in the string, since the version number appears 2 positions after it, and got these results: SQLVersion VerNum ----------- ------------ 2000 8.00.2055 (I 2005 9.00.3080.00 2005 9.00.4053.00 2008 10.50.1600.1 As you can see it was good enough for most of the values, but not for the SQL 2000 @@VERSION.  You'll notice it has only 3 version sections/octets where the others have 4, and the SUBSTRING() grabbed the non-numeric characters after.  To properly parse the version number will require a non-fixed value for the 3rd parameter of SUBSTRING(), which is the number of characters to extract. The best value is the position of the first space to occur after the version number (VN), the trick is to figure out how to find it.  Here's where my confusion about PATINDEX() came about.  The CHARINDEX() function has a handy optional 3rd parameter: CHARINDEX (expression1 ,expression2 [ ,start_location ] ) While PATINDEX(): PATINDEX ('%pattern%',expression ) Does not.  I had expected to use PATINDEX() to start searching for a space AFTER the position of the VN, but it doesn't work that way.  Since there are plenty of spaces before the VN, I thought I'd try PATINDEX() on another character that doesn't appear before, and tried "(": SELECT SQLVersion, SUBSTRING(VersionString,PATINDEX('%-%',VersionString)+2, PATINDEX('%(%',VersionString)) FROM VERSION Unfortunately this messes up the length calculation and yields: SQLVersion VerNum ----------- --------------------------- 2000 8.00.2055 (Intel X86) Dec 16 2008 19:4 2005 9.00.3080.00 (Intel X86) Sep 6 2009 01: 2005 9.00.4053.00 (Intel X86) May 26 2009 14: 2008 10.50.1600.1 (Intel X86) Apr 2008 10.50.1600.1 (X64) Apr 2 20 Yuck.  The problem is that PATINDEX() returns position, and SUBSTRING() needs length, so I have to subtract the VN starting position: SELECT SQLVersion, SUBSTRING(VersionString,PATINDEX('%-%',VersionString)+2, PATINDEX('%(%',VersionString)-PATINDEX('%-%',VersionString)) VerNum FROM VERSION And the results are: SQLVersion VerNum ----------- -------------------------------------------------------- 2000 8.00.2055 (I 2005 9.00.4053.00 (I Msg 537, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Invalid length parameter passed to the LEFT or SUBSTRING function. Ummmm, whoops.  Turns out SQL Server 2008 R2 includes "(RTM)" before the VN, and that causes the length to turn negative. So now that that blew up, I started to think about matching digit and dot (.) patterns.  Sadly, a quick look at the first set of results will quickly scuttle that idea, since different versions have different digit patterns and lengths. At this point (which took far longer than I wanted) I decided to cut my losses and redo the query using CHARINDEX(), which I'll cover in Part 2.2.  So to do a little post-mortem on this technique: PATINDEX() doesn't have the flexibility to match the digit pattern of the version number; PATINDEX() doesn't have a "start" parameter like CHARINDEX(), that allows us to skip over parts of the string; The SUBSTRING() expression is getting pretty complicated for this relatively simple task! This doesn't mean that PATINDEX() isn't useful, it's just not a good fit for this particular problem.  I'll include a version in the next post that extracts the version number properly. UPDATE: Sorry if you saw the unformatted version of this earlier, I'm on a quest to find blog software that ACTUALLY WORKS.

  • VSDBCMD returns "An unexpected failure occurred: Object reference not set to an instance of an objec

    - by Matt Wrock
    I have been succesfully using the command line database deployment tool VSDBCMD on my dev and test environments but the tool fails in our integration environmrnt. I am using the VS 2010 version of the tool. The servers have all of the prerequisites including: .net 4.0 sql server compact edition 3.5 sp1 (as well as the full edition of 2008) sql server 2008 server management objects sql server 2008 native client sql server system clr types msxml 6 all of the dependent DLLs included in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5\desktop*.dll C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v3.5*.dll C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\VSTSDB\Deploy**. The only reference to this error that I have been able to find has to do with a bug in the VS 2008 edition when the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0 key is missing. In my case the 10.0 version of the key exists. Has anyone else encountered this?

  • Upgrading from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010

    - by Craig HB
    Our development team is planning to upgrade from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010 -- skipping out visual studio 2008. Most of the projects are VB ASP.NET projects and using SQL Server 2008 as the database. Does anyone know if VS 2005 projects will upgrade seamlessly to VS 2010, or should they first be upgraded to VS 2008? Are there any gotchas?

  • Pdssql.dll cannot be found

    - by Kolten
    I am attempting to open a Crystal Reports 8.5 document, and when I try to set the database to the Production data server, i get the error "Pdssql.dll cannot be found". Googling, this is a common problem, but none of the fixes I tried seem to work. This is a new computer. I do have SQL Server 2008 client tools installed, but I believe previously I had Sql Server 2005 client tools. I attempted to install the SQL Server 2005 client tools, but that didn't go through due to me having 2008 installed. I require 2008 to do my job now. Everything I search for says this is a 16bit driver, and I need to install the 2005 client tools. Unfortunately this cannot be done due to me having 2008. is there some sort of work-around I can do? Thanks

  • merging two duplicate contacts/CfoldFusion

    - by jil
    having to do with data integrity - I maintain a coldfusion database at a small shop that keeps addresses of different contacts. These contacts sometimes contain notes in them. When you are merging two duplicate contacts, one may be created in 2002 and one in 2008. If the contact in 2002 has notes prior to 2008, my question would be does it matter if you merge these contacts and keep the 2008 contact's ID number? Would that affect the data integrity or create any sort of issues with the notes earlier than 2008? I hope I've accurately described my scenario, as I am not familiar with the proper technical terms. I really appreciate the help sir!

  • Windows Media Encoder object not created in ASP.NET on MS Server 2003 64 bit

    - by Ron
    Hello, I created (and used) a Windows Media Encoder object in Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition on MS Server 2003 64 bit. This worked fine. However, when I attempted to create the equivalent Windows Media Encoder object using Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 on MS Server 2003 64 bit, the following exception was thrown: "Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {632B606A-BBC6-11D2-A329-006097C4E476} failed due to the following error: 80040154." It cannot be that the component isn’t registered, because both have a reference to the same WMEncEng.dll file. The Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 code also worked fine on XP 32 bit. Could it be a problem with permissions? Regardless, anyone have any ideas why this problem is occurring and, more importantly, how to resolve it? Thank you. Here are the two code snippets from MS Server 2003 64 bit: Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 (did not work): using System; using WMEncoderLib; namespace TestWMEnc { public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { try { WMEncoder encoder = new WMEncoder(); //exception thrown // ... } catch (Exception err) { string exception = err.Message; } } } } Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition (worked fine): using System; using System.Windows.Forms; using WMEncoderLib; namespace testWMEncoder { public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { try { WMEncoder encoder = new WMEncoder(); // ... } catch (Exception err) { string exception = err.Message; } } } }

  • Need help with ConnectionString value in C#

    - by SzamDev
    Hi I have an idea and I want to apply it to my Application (C# .NET). When we connect to a DB (MS SQL Server 2008) in VS 2008, the ConnectionString saved in the Application Setting and it's a static varriable (no one can edit it unless you edit it inside VS 2008). I want a way to let my Application search for MS SQL Server and save it to Application Setting and use it to connect to my DB Programmatically. When my application start, the first thing to do is checking the ConnectionString if vaild, NOT Empty and test connection to MS SQL Server Successfully so if there is a proplem I think to show a window form to let the user enter some data like username and password for MS SQL Server 2008 Is there any way to do it?

  • problem with trying to create ssms add-in

    - by Karl
    I'm trying to create an add-in for SSMS 2008 and/or 2008 R2 but I've run into a problem straight away. I can get my add-in to work and on SSMS start-up get it to simply show a message box. However, after downloading various code-samples, when trying to reference Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.UI.VSIntegration.ServiceCache I get a null reference exception: Commands2 commands = (Commands2)ServiceCache.ExtensibilityModel.Commands; I get this problem when using SSMS 2008 or SSMS 2008 R2. I'm working on Visual Studio 2010. It's a bit frustrating because I'm keen to learn more about SSMS add-ins but can't seem to get past the few samples out there. Any advice/tips appreciated. Thanks

And yes; I've checked that the "curFunc" gets the address, not just a NULL pointer(atleast I think I've checked that).. Anyone who can help out? Edit: Forgot the C#.Net code, how stupid of me :3 Here is the C++ CLR DLL "wrapper" I tried to make: #include <windows.h> // The following ifdef block is the standard way of creating macros which make exporting // from a DLL simpler. This way any other project whose source files include this file see // XENOWRAPPERWIN32_API functions as being imported from a DLL, whereas this DLL sees symbols // defined with this macro as being exported. #ifdef XENOWRAPPERWIN32_EXPORTS #define XENOWRAPPERWIN32_API __declspec(dllexport) #else #define XENOWRAPPERWIN32_API __declspec(dllimport) #endif typedef void (*FunctionFunc)(); typedef void (*FunctionFuncFloat)(float); typedef void (*FunctionFuncInt)(int); typedef void (*FunctionIntFloatFloatFloat)(int,float,float,float); // This class is exported from the xeno wrapper win32.dll class XENOWRAPPERWIN32_API Cxenowrapperwin32 { public: Cxenowrapperwin32(void); HINSTANCE libInstance; // FunctionFunc curFunc; // Library base functions void LoadLib() { libInstance = LoadLibrary(L"F:\\xenophysics.dll"); } void UnloadLib() { FreeLibrary(libInstance); } // Function calls to the xeno physics void xStart() { FunctionFunc curFunc; curFunc = (FunctionFunc)GetProcAddress(libInstance, "?xenoStart@@YAXXZ"); curFunc(); } void xEnd() { FunctionFunc curFunc; curFunc = (FunctionFunc)GetProcAddress(libInstance, "?xenoEnd@@YAXXZ"); curFunc(); } void xUpdate() { FunctionFunc curFunc; curFunc = (FunctionFunc)GetProcAddress(libInstance, "?xenoUpdate@@YAXXZ"); curFunc(); } void xMakeRigidBodyStaticBox(int objid) { FunctionFuncInt curFunc; curFunc = (FunctionFuncInt)GetProcAddress(libInstance, "?xenoMakeRigidBodyStaticBox@@YAXH@Z"); curFunc(objid); } void xMakeRigidBodyDynamicBox(int objid) { FunctionFuncInt curFunc; curFunc = (FunctionFuncInt)GetProcAddress(libInstance, "?xenoMakeRigidBodyDynamicBox@@YAXH@Z"); curFunc(objid); } void xSetRigidBodyPosition(int objid, float x, float y, float z) { FunctionIntFloatFloatFloat curFunc; curFunc = (FunctionIntFloatFloatFloat)GetProcAddress(libInstance, "?xenoSetRigidBodyPosition@@YAXHMMM@Z"); curFunc(objid, x, y, z); } void xSetGravity(float grav) { FunctionFuncFloat curFunc; curFunc = (FunctionFuncFloat)GetProcAddress(libInstance, "?xenoSetGravity@@YAXM@Z"); curFunc(grav); } }; extern XENOWRAPPERWIN32_API int nxenowrapperwin32; XENOWRAPPERWIN32_API int fnxenowrapperwin32(void); and here is how I use it in C#.Net class xeno { [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?LoadLib@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXXZ")] public static extern void xLoadLib(); public void LoadLib() { xLoadLib(); } [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?UnloadLib@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXXZ")] public static extern void xUnloadLib(); public void UnloadLib() { xUnloadLib(); } [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?xStart@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXXZ")] public static extern void xStart(); public void Start() { xStart(); } [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?xUpdate@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXXZ")] public static extern void xUpdate(); public void Update() { xUpdate(); } [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?xEnd@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXXZ")] public static extern void xEnd(); public void End() { xEnd(); } [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?xMakeRigidBodyDynamicBox@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXH@Z")] public static extern void xMakeRigidBodyDynamicBox(int objid); public void MakeRigidBodyDynamicBox(int id) { xMakeRigidBodyDynamicBox(id); } [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?xMakeRigidBodyStaticBox@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXH@Z")] public static extern void xMakeRigidBodyStaticBox(int objid); public void MakeRigidBodyStaticBox(int id) { xMakeRigidBodyStaticBox(id); } [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?xSetGravity@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXM@Z")] public static extern void xSetGravity(float grav); public void SetGravity(float g) { xSetGravity(g); } [DllImport("C:\\Users\\hayer\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2008\\Projects\\xeno wrapper win32\\Debug\\xeno wrapper win32.dll", EntryPoint = "?xSetRigidBodyPosition@Cxenowrapperwin32@@QAEXHMMM@Z")] public static extern void xSetRigidBodyPosition(int obj, float x, float y, float z); public void SetRigidBodyPosition(int id, float q, float w, float e) { xSetRigidBodyPosition(id, q, w, e); } } And in the main C#.Net program I do xeno tx = new xeno(); tx.Start(); tx.SetGravity(-1); tx.MakeRigidBodyStaticBox(ground.Id); tx.MakeRigidBodyDynamicBox(cube.Id); tx.SetRigidBodyPosition(cube.Id, 0, 50, 0);

  • After installing VS 2010 - Generic Host Process For Win32 Services problem starts.

    - by Muhammad Kashif Nadeem
    After installing VS 2010 trial I am getting this error "Generic Host Process For Win32 Services Encountered A Problem and needs to close. When this message pops my computer just stuck and I can not even restart it normally. I have found one fix on net but after that fix I can not access my LAN. This fix change these values in registry. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netbt\parameters TransportBindName HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE EnableDCOM If I revert these registry changes then I again start getting 'Generic Host Process For Win32 Services' I have uninstall VS 2010 but this problem persist. This problem is not because of any virus. Any help to fix this or I have to re install Windows. Thanks.

  • Where is App.config?

    - by Zian Choy
    I'm trying to set up logging with Microsoft's Enterprise Library (log4net seems to be a dead project). I'm using VB .NET 2008 and VS 2008. I've searched all over the MSDN documentation, CodePlex docs (including the Hands-On labs that installed and then vanished), and online tutorials to no avail. They all refer to a mysterious "configuration file" or "App.config" that I can't find and can't seem to add. I even tried adding a new text file and renaming it "App.config" but that only made VS 2008 spit out a red wavy line on a blank file. Any suggestions for finding the elusive app.config would be greatly appreciated. (and, if that makes the EntLib configuration tool show up, I'll be absolutely delighted) Edit: I've been tricked! The tree in VS 2008 isn't a true superset-subset relationship, which is why I got so frustrated. To wit, the top of the tree: And a 'sub-section' of the tree.

  • Ubuntu Server 10.10 vs. Fedora Server 14 for Mono.NET app hosting in VM

    - by Abbas
    Ubuntu Server 10.10 vs. Fedora Server 14 I want to create a web-server running Mono, MySQL 5.5 and OpenLDAP running as a VM (on VMWare Workstation). Searching “Ubuntu Server vs. Fedora Server” mostly yields flame wars and noise. There are a few good articles available but they are either out-of-date or don’t offer very convincing arguments. I know the answer is most likely to be “it depends” but I wanted to harness the collective wisdom on ServerFault and get opinions, experiences and factual information to the extent possible. My selection criteria would be (other than what is mentioned above): Ease of use Ease of development Reliability Security

  • Why can't I create a Date from a string including milliseconds?

    - by KooiInc
    In javascript you can create a Date object from a string, like var mydate = new Date('2008/05/10 12:08:20'); console.log(mydate); //=> Sat May 10 2008 12:08:20 GMT+0200 Now try this using milliseconds in the string var mydate = new Date('2008/05/10 12:08:20:551'); // or '2008/05/10 12:08:20.551' console.log(mydate); //=> NaN Just out of curiosity: why is this?
