• Visual Studio Add-in - How do I create an Installer?

  I have made a Visual Studio Add-in as part of a project I'm working on using web services. When I created the new Add-in project in visual studio it generated all the code required and installed the blank add-in on my pc (I assume). Since this is a large project we are using svn to manage the code base and once I had done some of the work on the Add-in I commited it, then checked it out on a different pc and attempted to run it. However on the other pc when I run the add-in in debug mode, the tools entry for the add-in is not present and I can't run the add-in. Am I right in assuming that when I created the project on the other pc it installed the plugin aswell?? and does that mean that I will need to create an installer for any other pcs I wish to use? Obviously at some point I intend on making an installer anyway but not untill after the development of the addin is complete.

• What is the best way to get support from microsoft developers [closed]

  I have a problem at my production web, that I am not able to solve. I am not able to reproduce the problem in stage or development. It only appears when the website is under heavy load. I think it is solvable if somebody who has a very good understanding of the internals of FormsAuthentication would have a look at it by logging into our system. It should be at least Scottgu! Somebody told me that Microsoft Premier Support is a good choice for this kind of problems. We have no MSDN subscription or other connection to microsoft that enables us to use MPS. Is there a way to get support on a incident base? Are there other ways to get this kind of support? • How do I join two git repos without a common root, where all modified files are the same?

  I have a git-cpan-init of a repo which yielded a different root node from another already established git repo I found on github C:A:S:DBI. I've developed quite a bit on my repo, and I'd like to merge or replay my edits on a fork of the more authoritative repository. Does anyone know how to do this? I think it is safe to assume none of the file-contents of the modified files are different -- the code base hasn't been since Nov 08'. For clarity the git hub repo is the authoritative one. My local repo is the one I want to go up to git hub shown as a real git fork.

• Is is better to store serialized data or raw html in mysql?

  I de-normalized my database, since the application was crawling otherwise, and Im storing a list of categories for each item in the DB as a raw html version, and simply echoing it out in my design. Each category is actually a link, which is include a tag. Naturally, this is abit of a pain, especially if I want to change the look of how the category links are displayed, since I gotta update all the old cached entries. What if I were to store this data as a serialized array instead, and simply unserialize it, and then apply formatting to it in php. Would there be a significant performance decrease over simply echoing out the raw html?

• Android Apps: What is the recommended targetSdk for broadest appeal?

  I have an Android app that only needs internet access and would like to target API level 3 (1.5) to reach the broadest handset base. However, it appears that targeting API level 3 implicitly requires two additional permissions that are visible to users: modify sd card, and read phone state. See: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1747178/android-permissions-phone-calls-read-phone-state-and-identity) So the connundrum, do I target API level 4 and turn away users running 1.5, or do I target API level 3 and turn away users who are upset that my app is requesting so many permissions that it shouldn't need?   A user registers on our Rails app and they're given javascript to embed a widget in their website. The widget has a tabbed interface, like the JQuery tabs http://stilbuero.de/jquery/tabs_3/. iFrames have been tested, but the widget form factor and cross-domain policy negates the use of iframes. The widget is very dynamic and will often update the DOM with new content - and because of cross-domain policy, it looks as though JSONP is necessary. I understand that 'widget.js.erb' needs to create the widget layout, reference a stylesheet, render the tabs, etc - but once a tab is clicked, how does the widget request the content from the Rails app and render it in the DOM?

• How do I initialize attributes when I instantiate objects in Rails?

  Clients have many Invoices. Invoices have a number attribute that I want to initialize by incrementing the client's previous invoice number. For example: @client = Client.find(1) @client.last_invoice_number > 14 @invoice = @client.invoices.build @invoice.number > 15 I want to get this functionality into my Invoice model, but I'm not sure how to. Here's what I'm imagining the code to be like: class Invoice < ActiveRecord::Base ... def initialize(attributes = {}) client = Client.find(attributes[:client_id]) attributes[:number] = client.last_invoice_number + 1 client.update_attributes(:last_invoice_number => client.last_invoice_number + 1) end end However, attributes[:client_id] isn't set when I call @client.invoices.build. How and when is the invoice's client_id initialized, and when can I use it to initialize the invoice's number? Can I get this logic into the model, or will I have to put it in the controller?

• Should I use DTOs as my data models in MVVM?

  I'm currently working on what will be my first real foray into using MVVM and have been reading various articles on how best to implement it. My current thoughts are to use my data models effectively as data transfer objects, make them serializable and have them exist on both the client and server sides. It seems like a logical step given that both object types are really just collections of property getters and setters and another layer in between seems like complete overkill. Obviously there would be issues with INotifyPropertyChanged not working correctly on the server side as there is no ViewModel to which to communicate, but as long as we are careful about constructing our proper domain model objects from data models in the service layer and not dealing the the data models on the server side I don't think it should be a big issue. I haven't found too much info about this approach in my reading, so I would like to know if this is a pretty standard thing, is this just assumed to be the de facto way of doing MVVM in a multi-tier environment? If I've got completely the wrong idea about things then thoughts on other approaches would be appreciated too.

• Delay after pressing a button

  After I press a button, Android parse a JSON file and pick the info it needs. Until yesterday, I was using an external library created by a user and it worked perfectly. But now, I don't want to depend on him, so I've searching info about Google's GSON. I've implemented this library with no problem, but now, after pressing the button that opens a new activity there's a delay. This delay is due to the connection and parsing that are done before the activity shows. How can I force the app to wait the Internet connection until de Activity is shown? It's a lil bit uncomfortable because after pressing the button, it seems that the app has frozen, but after all data is loaded, the new activity appears. Thank you in advance!

• Grails: Property Null error

  I've a domain called Modulo with some properties and a Controller with a method that create a object from model and save it, when execute save the shell show this error: La propiedad [{0}] de la clase [{1}] no puede ser nulo But if i set the constraint nullable to true, the error show again. I think that i should not set this cosntraint. The model is linked to a mysql table with all properties except id allow null. I think I am not doing something wrong here. Any advice?? • Correctly Applying an Open Source License

  My question consists of multiple points that are inherently related, I apologize for that. I tried splitting it up a little more, but I would keep repeating myself. What exactly is required to apply an open source license to a code base that is my Intellectual Property? A lot of Open Source projects include a full copy of the license somewhere in a root directory but do also have some sort of file header including a license description, disclaimer and a copyright notice. Is that really necessary or does it depend on the license type? If someone else contributes changes to this file, does he need to be named in the copyright notice too?

• Service injection into Controller (Spring MVC)

  Hi I have a Spring web application, I have built it up to the controller stage and I could inject my Daos, into my Services fine. Now when I want to inject my Service into my controller i get an error for dependency with the Dao and further down the sessionFactory. I don't want to inject these again cause this will ultimately lead me to eventually create a data source but I have my Daos for data access and they already know about sessionFactory.   I want to display the posted comment once the user comments. Just to add it under all of them as facebook does. • Devise email confirmation from localhost

  I am able to get the registration confirmation email to send out in deployment on Heroku, but when I try a registration on localhost:3000, I get the following error: undefined local variable or method `confirmed_at' for #<User:0xb67a1ff0> In my config/environments/production.rb file I have: config.action_mailer.default_url_options = { :host => 'xxxx.com' } And I have an initializer file with the following format: ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = { :user_name => "[email protected]", :password => "xxxxxx", :domain => "xxxx.com", :address => "smtp.sendgrid.net", :port => "xxx", :authentication => :plain, :enable_starttls_auto => true }; What settings do I need to get the localhost working? • RSpec: Expectation on model's not working while testing controller

  I'm trying to write a functional test. My test looks as following: describe PostsController do it "should create a Post" do Post.should_receive(:new).once post :create, { :post => { :caption => "ThePost", :category => "MyCategory" } } end end My PostsController (a part of it actually) looks as following: PostController < ActiveRecord::Base def create @post = Post.new(params[:post]) end end Running the test I'm always receiving a failure, which says that the Post class expected :new but never got it. Still, the actual post is created. I'm a newbie to RSpec. Am I missing something?

• SqlBulkCopy unusual TimeOut Error

  I have a SqlBulkCopy operation that is taking data from an MS-Access 2007 database (via OleDbConnection) and using SqlBulkCopy to transfer that data to a SQL Server database. This has previously been working and continues to work for one MS-Access database, but not the other. I get the error message: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. It is hard to believe it is a timeout ast the oledbCommand.CommandTimeout = 0 the sqlBulkCopy.BulkCopyTimeout = 0 and on either side (MS-Access and SQL Server the timeouts have now been set to 0). Are there other issues/exceptions that the above error message could be hiding? Is there a way to determine what the base cause of a sqlBulkCopy.WriteToServer exception is (there doesn't appear to be any inner exceptions etc...)

  Suppose we have abstract class A (all examples in C#) public abstract class A { private Foo foo; public A() { } public void DoSomethingUsingFoo() { //stuff } public void DoSomethingElseUsingFoo() { //stuff } //a lot of other stuff... } But we are able to split it into two classes A and B: public abstract class A { public A() { } //a lot of stuff... } public abstract class B : A { private Foo foo; public B() : base() { } public void DoSomethingUsingFoo() { //stuff } public void DoSomethingElseUsingFoo() { //stuff } //nothing else or just some overrides of A stuff } That's good, but we are 99.99% sure, that no one will ever subclass A, because functionality in B is very important. Is it still good to have two separate classes only to split some code into two parts and to separate functional elements?

• Applying a function to an arbitrarily long list of arguments

  I want to create a function apply that takes a function with an arbitrary amount of arguments as well as a list of integers, and returns the result of the function (Where each integer in the list is an argument in order. I was thinking something like: apply :: ([Int] -> Int) -> [Int] -> Int apply f x:xs = apply (f x) xs apply f [] = f But I know this won't work because the type signature is wrong - the function doesn't take a list of ints, it just takes some amount of int arguments. Additionally, when I get to the base case the f argument to apply should actually be an integer, violating the type signature anyway. Does anyone know how to deal with this sort of problem?

  Firstly, I am not at all familiar with windows batch file programing. Recently I am curious about how tomcat sets itself as a windows service using a batch file. I downloaded the service.bat file from tomcat 6. However, I still don't understand some part of it. I guess this is the line that the batch actually register the exe file to the OS, is it right? Is there any syntax explanation? • Ticket Bayesian(or something else) Categorization

  Hi. I search solution for ticket managment system. Do you know any commercial offers? For now I have only own dev prjects with using dspam library. Maybe I am wrong use it but it show bad results. My idea was divide all prerated ticket in 2 group: spam (it is my category) and rest to (ham - all not the same with this category). After that i trained my dspam. After I redivide all tickets in new groups (for next category) and teach dspam again (with new user - by category name)... And it works bad... My thoughs about is - bad data base tickes (i mean not correct tagging before) - bad my algorythm (it is more posible) Please give me a direction to go forward. Thanks.
