• Using sphinx to create context sensitive html help

  Hi all, I am currently using AsciiDoc (http://www.methods.co.nz/asciidoc/) for documenting my software projects because it supports pdf and html help generation. I am currently running it through cygwin so that the a2x tool chain functions properly. This works well for me but is a pain to setup on other windows computers. I have been looking for alternative methods and recently revisited Sphinx. Noticing that it now produces html help files I gave it a try and it seems to work well in the small tests I performed. My question is, is there a way to specify map id's for context sensitive help in the text so that my windows programs can call the proper help api and the file is launched and opened to the desired location? In AsciiDoc I am using "pass::[]". By using these constructs a context.h and alias.h are generated along with the other html help files (context sensitive help information).

• REST API error return good practices

  I'm looking for guidance on good practices when it comes to return errors from a REST API. I'm working on a new API so I can take it any direction right now. My content type is XML at the moment, but I plan to support JSON in future. I am now adding some error cases, like for instance a client attempts to add a new resource but has exceeded his storage quota. I am already handling certain error cases with HTTP status codes (401 for authentication, 403 for authorization and 404 for plain bad request URIs). I looked over the blessed HTTP error codes but none of the 400-417 range seems right to report application specific errors. So at first I was tempted to return my application error with 200 OK and a specific XML payload (ie. Pay us more and you'll get the storage you need!) but I stopped to think about it and it seems to soapy (/shrug in horror). Besides it feels like I'm splitting the error responses into distinct cases, as some are http status code driven and other are content driven. So what is the SO crowd recommendation? Good practices (please explain why!) and also, from a client pov, what kind of error handling in the REST API makes life easier for the client code?

• Encoding MySQL text fields into UTF-8 text files - problems with special characters

  I'm writing a php script to export MySQL database rows into a .txt file formatted for Adobe InDesign's internal markup. Exports work, but when I encounter special characters like é or umlauts, I get weird symbols (eg Chloë Hanslip instead of Chloë Hanslip). Rather than run a search and replace for every possible weird character, I need a better method. I've checked that when the text hits the database, it's saved properly - in the database I see the special characters. My export code basically runs some regular expressions to put in the InDesign code tags, and I'm left with the weird symbols. If I just output the text to the browser (rather than prompt for a text file download), it displays properly. When I save the file I use this code: header("Content-disposition: attachment; filename=test.txt"); header("Content-Type: text/plain; charset=utf-8"); I've tried various combinations of utf8_encode() and iconv() to no avail. Can anybody point me in the right direction here?

• 404 Error using Flash Builder 4 BlazeDS wizard

  Hello again Stackoverflow! My issue this time around is trying to use the new DCD BlazeDS wizard in Flash Builder 4. If I set my project up as a combined Java/Flex app I am unable to connect to the RDS servlet using the wizard. I get a 404 error every time. I'm certain the service is set up correctly since my app can access the exposed java classes and BlazeMonster can see the exposed services. Is anyone else having this issue and if so has anyone found a work-around? I'd very much like to use the code generation features of the wizard for my project. Thanks as always, Codeflayer

• Problem consuming Exchange Web Service 2010 with jax-ws metro

  I am trying to consume the Exchange 2010 Web Service interface using JAX-WS. I'm using JAX-WS 2.2 RI (Metro 2.0). 2.1 exhibited the same problem. I am running into trouble with Exchange, which returns "HTTP/1.1 415 Cannot process the message because the content type 'text/xml;charset=utf-8' was not the expected type 'text/xml; charset=utf-8'." as a reponse (2.1 quoted the charset value, otherwise same response). Apparently I need to dictate the exact Content-type header for Exchange to be happy. Is there a way for me to do this without forcing me to manually rebuild the dependency? I currently rely on published maven artifacts, and would like to continue doing this if at all possible. The consuming process is a regular J2SE app, with no containers in sight. I have control of the application and can add pretty much anything required to the applications scope, but can not add out-of-process items like proxy servers. The client classes were generated from local WSDL, but the charset specification is derived from constants declared in the jaxws RI implementation, not the generated code. The resulting HTTP transport is thus handled by the standard http/https client from Sun JRE5 or JRE6.

  Lets say I have a simple controller for ASP.NET MVC I want to test. I want to test that a controller action (Foo, in this case) simply returns a link to another action (Bar, in this case). How would you test this? (either the first or second link) My implementation has the same link twice. One passes the url throw ViewData[]. This seems more testable to me, as I can check the ViewData collection returned from Foo(). Even this way though, I don't know how to validate the url itself without making dependencies on routing. • Render action return View(); form problem

  I'm new to MVC, so please bear with me. :-) I've got a strongly typed "Story" View. This View (story) can have Comments. I've created two Views (not partials) for my Comments controller "ListStoryComments" and "CreateStoryComment", which do what their names imply. These Views are included in the Story View using RenderAction, e.g.: <!-- List comments --> <h2>All Comments</h2> <% Html.RenderAction("ListStoryComments", "Comments", new { id = Model.Story.Id }); %> <!-- Create new comment --> <% Html.RenderAction("CreateStoryComment", "Comments", new { id = Model.Story.Id }); %> (I pass in the Story id in order to list related comments). All works as I hoped, except, when I post a new comment using the form, it returns the current (parent) View, but the Comments form field is still showing the last content I typed in and the ListStoryComments View isn’t updated to show the new story. Basically, the page is being loaded from cache, as if I had pressed the browser’s back button. If I press f5 it will try to repost the form. If I reload the page manually (reenter the URL in the browser's address bar), and then press f5, I will see my new content and the empty form field, which is my desired result. • webcam refreshing image in iframe not working IE

  I'm trying to show images from this webcam http://regacam.usz.ch/cgi-bin/guestimage.html on an html page by putting an iframe in pointing to another page that has an image tag in it. But it isn't working in IE (I just see a little cross where the image should be), Firefox is ok.   Hi, I have an object as follows Public Class Bin Public Property Id As Integer Public Property Name As String Public Property Store As Store End Class Public Class Store Public Property Id As Integer Public Property Bins As IEnumerable(Of Bin) End Class I have a unique constraint in the database on Bin.Name and BinStoreID to ensure unique names within stores. However, when NHibernate persists the store, it first inserts the Bin records with a null StoreID before performing an update later to set the correct StoreID. This violates the Unique Key If I persist two stores with a Bin of the same name because The Name columns are the same and the StoreID is null for both. Is there something I can add to the mapping to ensure that the correct StoreID is included in the INSERT rather than performing an update later? We are using HiLo identity generation so we are not relying on DB generated identity columns Thanks James

• Insane Graphics.lineStyle behavior

  Hi all, I'd like some help with a little project of mine. Background: i have a little hierarchy of Sprite derived classes (5 levels starting from the one, that is the root application class in Flex Builder). Width and Height properties are overriden so that my class always remembers it's requested size (not just bounding size around content) and also those properties explicitly set scaleX and scaleY to 1, so that no scaling would ever be involved. After storing those values, draw() method is called to redraw content. Drawing: Drawing is very straight forward. Only the deepest object (at 1-indexed level 5) draws something into this.graphics object like this: var gr:Graphics = this.graphics; gr.clear(); gr.lineStyle(0, this.borderColor, 1, true, LineScaleMode.NONE); gr.beginFill(0x0000CC); gr.drawRoundRectComplex(0, 0, this.width, this.height, 10, 10, 0, 0); gr.endFill(); Further on: There is also MouseEvent.MOUSE_WHEEL event attached to the parent of the object that draws. What handler does is simply resizes that drawing object. Problem: Screenshot When resizing sometimes that hairline border line with LineScaleMode.NONE set gains thickness (quite often even 10 px) + it quite often leaves a trail of itself (as seen in the picture above and below blue box (notice that box itself has one px black border)). When i set lineStile thickness to NaN or alpha to 0, that trail is no more happening. I've been coming back to this problem and dropping it for some other stuff for over a week now. Any ideas anyone? P.S. Grey background is that of Flash Player itself, not my own choise.. :D

• (iPhone) Instruments can't "Attach to Process"

  Actually, I'm using a second generation Ipod Touch. What I'm trying to do is to debug my app on XCode and look for any memory leaks on Instruments at the same time. Is it even possible? Because the "Attach to Process" submenu lists when my app is running (or debugging in this case) but all the items inside this menu are disabled. All I can do is start the app from Instruments but later I come across some bug and I want to see the variables and properties affected. I'm also new to Instruments. Please, could someone give me any advice? Help would be greatly appreciated!

  We have an administrative portal that our teachers constantly forget to download their latest PDF instructions before logging out and/or closing the browser window. I have looked around but can't find what I'm looking for. I want to accomplish the following goals: Goal 1 Before a user can close the browser window, they are prompted "Did you remember to download your form?" with two options, yes/no. If yes, close, if no, return to page. Goal 2 Before a user can click the 'logout' button, they are prompted with the same as above. • How to disable vertical bounce/scroll on iPhone in a mobile web application

  As the title says, i need to disable vertical bounce on iphone on my mobile web form application. Ive tried alot of different things, but most of them disables my form or horizontal scroll and bounce as well. Any ideas? Im using jquery.mobile btw :) Update: I actually managed to get the code from the first answer working somewhat: function stopScrolling( touchEvent ) { touchEvent.preventDefault(); } document.addEventListener( 'touchstart' , stopScrolling , false ); document.addEventListener( 'touchmove' , stopScrolling , false ); The reason why I couldnt get it to work in the first place, was that there actually was some margin on my body (stupid me). But. As the layout is fluid and im using jquery.mobile and have <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1"> in the header (I think) it doesnt work properly. The page is zoomed out (view from like a desktop browser) and zooming is disabled. Without the code, the page scales perfectly right from an 50" tv to the smallest nokia on the planet. Am I doing something wrong? Im starting to think the problem is caused by the body/content somehow being over 100% of the viewport. No idea how though.

I've created an image brush (the image is 50x50 pixels, the surface 250x550 pixels) and a viewport (trying to follow MS's site - though their example is for 2D), but only 1 of the colors in the "tile" image shows up and no tiling is seen. • Semantic Diff Utilities

  I'm trying to find some good examples of semantic diff/merge utilities. The traditional paradigm of comparing source code files works by comparing lines and characters.. but are there any utilities out there (for any language) that actually consider the structure of code when comparing files? For example, existing diff programs will report "difference found at character 2 of line 125. File x contains v-o-i-d, where file y contains b-o-o-l". A specialized tool should be able to report "Return type of method doSomething() changed from void to bool". I would argue that this type of semantic information is actually what the user is looking for when comparing code, and should be the goal of next-generation progamming tools. Are there any examples of this in available tools?
