• Is this good C# style?

  Consider the following method signature: public static bool TryGetPolls(out List<Poll> polls, out string errorMessage) This method performs the following: accesses the database to generate a list of Poll objects. returns true if it was success and errorMessage will be an empty string returns false if it was not successful and errorMessage will contain an exception message. Is this good style? Update: Lets say i do use the following method signature: public static List<Poll> GetPolls() and in that method, it doesn't catch any exceptions (so i depend the caller to catch exceptions). How do i dispose and close all the objects that is in the scope of that method? As soon as an exception is thrown, the code that closes and disposes objects in the method is no longer reachable.

• Bean is not instantiating while using hibernate interceptor

  I am using hibernate interceptor with spring framework,but when i pass a bean reference of DAO class its not instantiating the bean. My interceptor class has: private IMyService myService; // and getters and setters while application-context.xml having entries: <bean id="sessionFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.LocalSessionFactoryBean"> <property name="entityInterceptor" ref="logInterceptor"></property> </bean> <bean name="logInterceptor" class="com.amit.project.Utility.TableLogInterceptor" > <property name="myService" ref="myService"/> </bean> <bean name="myService" class="com.amit.project.service.impl.MyService"> But my bean is not instantiating in class, showing null. entityInterceptor is not allowing to do that or anything else? plz suggest a way if anybody knows.

• Jquery Randomizing within Categories

  Hi, so here is my question in a situation if you will. i have 6 items in div classes which correspond to 3 categories something like this class ="boat" class ="car" class ="bike" class ="blueboat" class ="redcar" class ="greenbike" so is there a jquery/javascript approach with .addClass where when someone clicks on the button "Randomize" it addClass .mine to each one of the 3 categories ie blueboat.mine and redcar.mine and bike.mine but not boat or car or greenbike because they are in the same category? or another situation rather than .addClass use a jquery/javascript so when "Randomize" is clicked to randomly show 3 out of 6 items one in each category of boat,car,bike and hide the rest blueboat,redcar,greenbike. in this situation all 6 items are on the page when document is ready but with the randomize only 3 are left one from each category. please let me know if anyone has any ideas or needs further clarification any help is greatly appreciated. thank you -david

For example: <a href="#" class="yellow">Yellow</a> <a href="#" class="blue">Blue</a> <a href="#" class="green">Green</a> <img src="yellow.jpg" class="yellow"> <img src="blue.jpg" class="blue"> <img src="green.jpg" class="green"> I'm currently doing it this way for each link/image: $('a.yellow').hover( function () { $('img.yellow').fadeIn('fast'); }, function () { $('img.yellow').fadeOut('fast'); }); The method above works fine, but as I'm still learning, I guess there's a better way to do that instead of repeating functions. Can anyone give me some light here? How can I improve this code?

  Hi, i've being banging my head against the desk all day with the following Nhibernate problem. Each bank account has one (and only one) set of rates associated with it. The primary key of the bank account table, BankAccountID is also a foreign key and the primary key in the rates table. public class BankAccount { public virtual int BankAccountId { get; set; } public virtual string AccountName { get; set;} public virtual AccountRate AccountRate {get;set;} } public class AccountRate { public virtual int BankAccountId { get; set; } public virtual decimal Rate1 { get; set; } public virtual decimal Rate2 { get; set; } } I have the following HBM mappings for BankAccount: <class name="BankAccount" table="BankAccount"> <id name ="BankAccountId" column="BankAccountId"> <generator class="foreign"> <param name="property"> AccountRate </param> </generator> </id> <property name ="AccountName" column="AccountName" /> <one-to-one name="AccountRate" class="AccountRate" constrained="true" cascade="save-update"/> </class> and the following for AccountRate: <class name="AccountRate" table="AccountRate"> <id name ="BankAccountId" column="BankAccountId"> <generator class="native" /> </id> <property name ="Rate1" column="Rate1" /> <property name ="Rate2" column="Rate2" /> </class> An existing BankAccount object can be read from the database with no problem. However, when a new BankAccount is created , the insert statement fails with; Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'BankAccountId' The issue appears to be that the child object , AccountRate is created first and since it hasn't yet got an identifier from its uncreated parent , the insert fails. I think i'm correct in saying that if the AccountRate property on BankAccount was a collection i could use the following ? Inverse=True in order to force the parent to be inserted first. Can anyone help me with this? i Really dont want to use a collection as there is only a unidirectional one to one relationship between these tables. Thanks Paul

Is it default method are method created manually what will TaskOptions() method will return. I created a method called TaskOption() when i to return a string value its saying error as "The method url(String) is undefined for the type String" In url what i want to specify servlet are any other.   Hello, I'm currently getting to know Java and OSGi, so I've read a few books. In one particular book the class loading is described. You can download it (free and legal) from the authors page (Neil Bartlett): OSGi Book On page 9 and 10 are this pictures: It seems like there is the possibility that our class "Foo" won't use the class "Bar" of foobar.jar, but instead class "Bar" from naughty.jar. Because of the flat and global structure of the Java classpath this could be, but as far as I know you would define a package from where you want to import a certain class: import foobar.Bar This should prevent loading the wrong class, shouldn't it? Of course assuming that the package is called "foobar".

Seems neater to me... Does anyone know what is meant by the following line?: Nested types include the notion of member accessibility, which some programmers do not understand clearly Using Namespaces to group the Class and Enum doesn't seem like a useful way to resolve this warning, since I would like both the enum to belong to the same parent level as the class name.

  I'm attempting to write a policy-based host class (i.e., a class that inherits from its template class), with a twist, where the policy class is also templated by the host class, so that it can access its types. One example where this might be useful is where a policy (used like a mixin, really), augments the host class with a polymorphic clone() method.   the situation is like this: im creating a Logger class that can write to a file but the write_to_file() function is in a helper class as a static function. i could call that function but then the Log class would be dependent to the helper class. isn't dependency bad? but if i can let it use a helper function then what is the point of having helper functions? what should one prioritize here: using helper functions and have to include this helper class everywhere (but the other 99 methods wont be useful) or just copy and paste into the Log class (but then if i have done this 100 times and then make a change i have to change in 100 places). share your thoughts and experience!

  I have seen posts all over the internet that talk about how to fix the TransientObjectExceptions during save/update/delete but I am having this problem when calling list on my Criteria. I have two objects A and B. A has a field named b which is of type B. In my mapping b is mapped as a many-to-one. This all runs in a larger persistence framework (the framework is kind of like Core Data) and so I don't use any cascades in my hibernate mappings since cascades are handled at a higher level.   Here is my problem; indexdeneme2.php has two forms Sign up and Login form, and there is validation.js and login.js which are handling the AJAX and JSON response, there are validate.php and login.php which are my scripts for validating and login. When you sign up, it sends the data to validate.php perfectly and validate.php response with JSON perfectly, validate.js must show the error in #error div. validation.js works perfectly if it is working alone. I use same kind of script for login form. Login.php also works perfectly it responses with JSON and login.js shows the errors are appear in #errorlogin div. But this works when login.js works alone. When I try to work login.js and validate.js together, it is not working. validate.php and login.php works perfectly but login.js and validation.js are not working together. They can't handle the responses coming from php scripts. It is not showing the errors in #errorlogin and #error div. They intercept each other I guess. By the way if you can critique my login.php and validate.php I will be really appreciated.   I have been trying to get Twitter Bootstrap btn-group with dropdown to work for multiple buttons that have a drop down menu. • Include a c# file in aspx page

  Hi all: I have an aspx page that has a @Page directive which points to a c# class. e.g. <@ Page Language="C#" EnableSessionState="true" ValidateRequest="False" Inherits="MyClass" %> MyClass extends Page, which is the code behind class for that aspx page. Now I want to add another class to the aspx page. This class does some processing and will redirect the user to another page if certain conditions are met. It will be called before the above directive. I tried adding another @Page directive, but gotten an unknown error (literally). I'm thinking that there can only be one code behind class per aspx page so I got the error when I added another one. Googling such question didnt really help me with the answer. So, how do I add another c# class to the same aspx page? Thanks.

• Using WeakReference to resolve issue with .NET unregistered event handlers causing memory leaks.

  The problem: Registered event handlers create a reference from the event to the event handler's instance. If that instance fails to unregister the event handler (via Dispose, presumably), then the instance memory will not be freed by the garbage collector. Example: class Foo { public event Action AnEvent; public void DoEvent() { if (AnEvent != null) AnEvent(); } } class Bar { public Bar(Foo l) { l.AnEvent += l_AnEvent; } void l_AnEvent() { } } If I instantiate a Foo, and pass this to a new Bar constructor, then let go of the Bar object, it will not be freed by the garbage collector because of the AnEvent registration. I consider this a memory leak, and seems just like my old C++ days. I can, of course, make Bar IDisposable, unregister the event in the Dispose() method, and make sure to call Dispose() on instances of it, but why should I have to do this? I first question why events are implemented with strong references? Why not use weak references? An event is used to abstractly notify an object of changes in another object. It seems to me that if the event handler's instance is no longer in use (i.e., there are no non-event references to the object), then any events that it is registered with should automatically be unregistered. What am I missing? I have looked at WeakEventManager. Wow, what a pain. Not only is it very difficult to use, but its documentation is inadequate (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.weakeventmanager.aspx -- noticing the "Notes to Inheritors" section that has 6 vaguely described bullets). I have seen other discussions in various places, but nothing I felt I could use. I propose a simpler solution based on WeakReference, as described here. My question is: Does this not meet the requirements with significantly less complexity? To use the solution, the above code is modified as follows: class Foo { public WeakReferenceEvent AnEvent = new WeakReferenceEvent(); internal void DoEvent() { AnEvent.Invoke(); } } class Bar { public Bar(Foo l) { l.AnEvent += l_AnEvent; } void l_AnEvent() { } } Notice two things: 1. The Foo class is modified in two ways: The event is replaced with an instance of WeakReferenceEvent, shown below; and the invocation of the event is changed. 2. The Bar class is UNCHANGED. No need to subclass WeakEventManager, implement IWeakEventListener, etc. OK, so on to the implementation of WeakReferenceEvent. This is shown here. I override operator + and - to get the += and -= syntactic sugar matching events. These create WeakReferences to the Action delegate. This allows the garbage collector to free the event target object (Bar in this example) when nobody else is holding on to it. In the Invoke() method, simply run through the weak references and call their Target Action. If any dead (i.e., garbage collected) references are found, remove them from the list. Of course, this only works with delegates of type Action. I tried making this generic, but ran into the missing where T : delegate in C#! As an alternative, simply modify class WeakReferenceEvent to be a WeakReferenceEvent, and replace the Action with Action. Fix the compiler errors and you have a class that can be used like so: class Foo { public WeakReferenceEvent<int> AnEvent = new WeakReferenceEvent<int>(); internal void DoEvent() { AnEvent.Invoke(5); } } Hopefully this will help someone else when they run into the mystery .NET event memory leak!
