  • Jquery broken by GetResponse (email marketing) web form script

    I'm working on a site that relies on quite a bit of javascript. The problem is, I'm not a javascript guru in the least. Yes, bit off more than I can chew, here. I'm using jquery for a spy effect, and use GetResponse for email signups. If I implement my GetResponse script, it breaks the area later in the page which depends on the jquery script. Pull the GetResponse script and it works just fine. Problem is, I need them both. ;) The trick, I suppose, is that the GetResponse script is actually another Jquery script, so it's getting called twice... Any help?   • WCF: limit number of calls per hour - per user

    Hi guys, I've got a WCF service (basicHttpBinding, basic authentication, IIS 6.0) on which I want to restrict the number of calls per hour - on user basis. For example, max 1000 calls per user, per hour (a la Google Maps, etc). I also want to implement some sort of subscription mechanism, so that users can upgrade their call-limit across various 'price plans'. I know that I could achieve this with a custom Inspector, backed by a DB containing some sort of 'subscription' table and a counter, but I'd like to avoid reinventing the wheel. Does anyone have experience doing this? Are there 3rd party projects/libraries that support this out of the box? Thanks. Eric

    I have a textField on my stage named 'adBuy', which when clicked I want to open up my browser with the defined in URL request. However when I click on the 'adBuy' textField on my SWF it opens Coda, the piece of software I'm using to write this small piece of code? I am puzzled.   • RIA Services and Shared domainlogic??

    I'm kind of disappointed at Ria Services. I like to work in a domain driven design way, so for example if I'm working with an invoicing system I have an object invoice which will have all methods on it to for example calculate total price from its invoice rows. public decimal Amount { get {return Entries.Sum(x => x.Amount);} } I like to have methods to add a new row to validate in data. public void AddInvoiceRow(Article article, decimal quantity) This is functionality I need on both client and server side. Have I missed something big or is RIA Services not for me? (In the whole, I don't like Silverlight restrictions at all, I mean that we need get; set on every data field we want to transfer for example some fields are not public at all in domain driven design but the technique Silverlight offers forcing us to do bad coding.)

  • Slow Jquery Animation

    I have this webpage : http://miloarc.pyrogenicmedia.com/ Which atm is nothing special. It has a few effects but none that break the bank. If you mouse over a tile, it should change it's opacity to give it a fade effect. This is done through the Jquery Animation, not through CSS (I do this so it can fade, instead of being a straight change). Everything looks nice when the page loads, and the fades look perfect. Infact if you drag your mouse all over the place, if gives you a "trail" almost like a snake. Anyway, My next problem is that you will see there is a box in the top left, which is going to tell you information about the tile you are hovering over. This seems to work fine. When you mouse over that information box, it switches it's position (So that you can reach the tiles that were previously hidden underneath it). From my understanding, this is all working fine, and to the letter. However, After one move of the info box (One hover). Viewing the page in Firefox turns slugish. As in, after a successful move of the info box, the fade effects become very stuttered, and it doesn't pick up events as fast meaning you can't draw a "trail" on the screen. Chrome doesn't have this issue. It seems to work fine no matter what. Safari also seems ok. Although I do notice if I move my mouse really fast, it does jump a bit but not as much as firefox. Internet explorer doesn't work at all. Seems to crash the browser... And there is an error with the rounded corner plugin im using (Not sure why...). All in all, I think whatever I'm doing inside my code must be heavily sluggish. But I don't know where it is happening.     I need to attach a single event handler to multiple DOM elements using jQuery. I'm currently achieving this using jQuery's each() method. See below: $([elm1, elm2, elm3]).each(function() { this.click(eventHandler); }); I was wondering if there is a way to do this without using the each method and closure. I thought I would be able to do something like: $(elm1, elm2, elm3).click(eventHandler); This kind of statement works using Prototype.js but not in jQuery.The reason I ask the question is because after using both Prototype.js and jQuery I have found that jQuery requires simpler statements to achieve the same tasks in almost every area so I assume there must be a better way of doing this?

    I've looked at a few sites now, and I'm still struggling to find a complete listing of all the possible layers/tiers you can have in an application. From back in college (1999) I remember the following: Presentation Layer (Views) Application Layer (Controllers) Business Logic Layer (API/Rules) Persistence Layer (Database/Object Persistence/Model) I'm not advocating that they all be used...especially when you consider that too many layers/tiers could lead to an increase in complexity...I just wondered what the complete list might look like... Based on a couple of blogs I've found several different answers...and Javascript and client side technologies seem to have leaked in adding more client-side layers according to one blog the client side tier might even consist of Behavior Layer (Javascript, Flash) Presentation Layer (CSS/Images) Note: I though the entire client side layer was the presentation layer Structure Layer (XHTML, HTML) I'm just trying to get an abstract idea of what all the possible layers might be, (even though some people call them different things)

  • CSS Centering Issue - Div Centering appx 15px too far to the right

    I have a theme that I'm modifying for my site. I currently have it live on my test domain while I tinker with it before launch. http://www.networkgenius.org The #content-wrap div is centering, but too far to the right for some reason. I've absolutely no idea why it's doing this, especially since everything else is centering properly. What is the problem? I did add a 15px padding to the content-wrap area as I've changed the body's background color to the grey that you see and obviously didn't want the text pressed right up against the edges of the wrapper.   • How to find a coding buddy

    I was reading Jeff Atwood's blog and he mentioned that he was suffering from code-paralysis (he called it analysis paralysis, but I feel like it's also code paralysis) when he didn't have a code buddy: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/ Unfortunately I think that Jeff has set the bar a bit high, because he only works with developers who are really amazing. The only reason really amazing developers would work with me is if I was really amazing too, but sometimes I don't feel that amazing... the only thing I feel is that if I had a coding buddy I could be amazing :). I'm working on a project and I don't have many friends that are programmers, let alone friends that have time to spend on extracurricular activities. Jeff seems to have been able to find like-minded people that are actually willing to work together. I feel like I'm in a code-paralysis stage too and I need some coding buddies, where would I find some? How would I approach them?

    Our current project uses an asmx service. We want to keep this service for now, but would like to add an additional wcf service for ajax calls. I followed a procedure i found online to set up the service and it works fine with javascript in aspx files within that particular project but i'm unsure how to reference it in javascript files in a different project (in the same solution). If someone could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. Should turn URL-s automatically into links Should support some form of basic markups (bold, image, url, pre, list) Should have a simple parser, that turns user input text into HTML Content on the site is public to everyone, XSS must not allowed to happen. What do you suggest? What markup language in the first place? BBCode? Wiki? Markdown? Are there any complete API-s with good examples? PHP is available on the server side. If there is a WYSIWYG-like texarea in addition (like here on SO) that would be a fantastic bonus!

    Hello, I'm trying to do soemone a favour, and it's a tad outside my comfort zone, so I'm stuck. I want to use R to scrape this page (http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/archive/germany2006/results/matches/match=97410001/report.html ) and others, to get the goal scorers and times.   • How can I force asp.net webapi to always decode POST data as JSON

    I getting some json data posted to my asp.net webapi, but the post parameter is always coming up null - the data is not being serialized correctly. The method looks something like this: public HttpResponseMessage Post(string id, RegistrationData registerData) It seems the problem is that the client (which I have no control over) is always sending the content-type as x-www-form-urlencoded, even though the content is actually json. This causes mvc to try to deserialize as form data, which fails. Is there anyway to get webapi to always deserialize as json, and to ignore the content-type header?

  • WinMo > ASMX WebException - how to get details?

    Okay, we've got an application which consists of a website hosting several ASMX webservices, and a handheld application running on WinMo 6.1 which calls the webservices. Been developing in the office, everything works perfect. Now we've gone to install it at the client's and we got all the servers set up and the handhelds installed. However the handhelds are now no longer able to connect to the webservice. I added in extra code in my error handler to specifically trap WebException exceptions and handle them differently in the logging to put out extra information (.Status and .Response). I am getting out the status, which is returning a [7], or ProtocolError. However when I try to read out the ResponseStream (using WebException.Response.GetResponseStream), it is returning a stream with CanRead set to False, and I thus am unable to get any further details of what is going wrong. So I guess there are two things I am asking for help with... a) Any help with trying to get more information out of the WebException? b) What could be causing a ProtocolError exception? Things get extra complicated by the fact that the client has a full-blown log-in-enabled proxy setup going on-site. This was stopping all access to the website initially, even from a browser. So we entered in the login details in the network connection for HTTP on the WinMo device. Now it can get to websites fine. In fact, I can even pull up the webservice fine and call the methods from the browser (PocketIE). So I know the device is able to see the webservices okay via HTTP. But when trying to call them from the .NET app, it throws ProtocolError [7]. Here is my code which is logging the exception and failing to read out the Response from the WebException.
