I googled this and tried some solutions, but nothing seems to work. In the past, Hibernate worked fine. Someone told me that this can be caused by specific hardware, and I have lots of that, because this is a dev machine which we use to develop modules that interact with lots of different hardware. Moreover, this machine also uses RAID, which might have something to do. Is there any way to troubleshoot this by looking at some log file or using some tool?
I have a shortcut in some folder, I want to add it to quick launch bar. I tried to drag and drop it but it doesn't let me (I was able to do it in WinXP). How do I add a shortcut to my quick launch bar?
Unfortunately I can't really give much more information unless anybody can suggest where I should look for logs or dumps etc?
Simply put, when I load the program I immediately get the error "Pinta Has Stopped Working".
I have tried:
Running as administrator
Installing to different partitions
Installing to folders with no spaces in directory structure
I have installed the GTK# for .Net 2.12.9 as required in order to install Pinta.
Thanks for any help!
Hello,
I normally hang out over on SO but wanted to ask this question in a more appropriate forum. I have, for the sheer fun of learning how to do (as I'm sick of GHOST and dd images) set up WDS and captured a reference WIM file.
One of the things that I remember being promised was the ability to do offline servicing of WIM files. I'm just wondering what the actual procedure is for this?
I have the full SP1 ISO down (covers 7 and 2008R2) and was wondering about next steps. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it greatly.
Thanks

Hi,
I have a Microsoft Small Business Server.
I have pointed an external domain name to the external fixed IP address for the server.
In routing and remote access I have defined a service for our subversion server as follows:
Incoming port: 8443
Private address: 192.168.10.5
Outgoing port: 8443
192.168.10.5 is our development server, not the SBS (which is at 192.168.10.1)
This rule works correctly if I am not on our internal network. However if I am on the internal network this rule does not get applied.
What can I do/set so this rule is applied both internally and externally (so users with laptops et, don't keep having to change the URL by which they access the subversion server)
Not sure what other info you may need, so please let me know if more details are required.

Hey guys,
Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what's causing my pc to lockup at the splash screen on bootup for 1-3minutes. This ONLY happens on the first power up, subsequent reboots run fine.
Running on a Falcon II SSD
I did the customary move of files to another drive when i first formatted the ssd. The slow first boot only started happening recently.
Thanks in advance!
I requested a new ssl cert from godaddy which has been issued.
When try to install it in iis through the website directory security tab i get a "the pending certificate request for this response file was not found. this request may be cancelled. you cannot install selected response certificate using this wizard" error.
I may have run the wizard and deleted the pending request.
Is there any way i can install the certificate without getting a new one? (i hope so)
I have the original certrequest.txt file
Is it possible to dual boot between Ubuntu and W7.vhd? If anyone knows please tell me how.
if you can answer to [email protected] would be perfect. Thanks
I have just added a MBP to my home network and while I can connect to the internet etc, i cannot browse my home networked computers. I have already added a new location in my Network preferences yet when I goto the WINS tab, there is no dropdown to select my workgroup so i manually enter it.
From what I have read, once I go to the finder and open the network, i should see the workgroup and systems...yet i do not. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Does anyone know an easy way to write files to a DVD from the command line. I've found a program that does it for CDs, and another that writes .ISO images to DVD.
I want to use it to write files to a backup DVD overnight.
One commandline tool per answer :)
WalkOnLAN
This small command line utility makes
possible to switch on a computer from
a second one by sending a "Magic
Packet". Both of computers can be
located on the same LAN or on the
different LAN segments.
Anything else?
Do I really need to split the single file into multiple files first? Shouldn't there be a one-step utility that lets you burn a CD and define track points at the same time?
Just built up a new W7 PC. I've noticed some strange issues with launching default applications.
I've got Visual Studio & SQL Server Management Studio set run as administrator when launched.
If i double click a .sql file SSMS opens ok but the file itself does not get loaded.
If I do the same with a .sln then I get nothing at all from Visual Studio.
For the latter I presume the UAC prompt is hidden somewhere waiting for me to say it's ok to launch the app but i've no idea what's happening with SSMS.
Is this a W7 bug or are there some settings somewhere that I can tweak to improve this behaviour?
We have a few folders that are set to replicate to a DR file server off-site. One of these folders contains a file that is a TrueCrypt volume container.
When this file is mounted in TrueCrypt, the file won't replicate (fair enough!).
I'm looking at alternatives to improve this situation.
One solution I currently have is to have a scheduled task to unmount the volume and then every morning as the volume is needed, have someone mount it. This is a pain slightly because the password is known by a few people (I'm not one and neither are my colleagues who would be performing the mounting operation) so we'd need to continually get them to come over and type it in.
The other I had was to have one TrueCrypt container on each server and replicate the contents when they are mounted. I wasn't able to get TrueCrypt to see the mounted volume so I guess this is a no go.
Any other solutions I have missed or a fix for the above?
I asked this question on the MSDN forums but there was no response. Maybe someone might be able to help me out here.
I am trying to run Disk Cleanup in the command prompt (and through a C# program) and so I went through all the available options from this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315246
While I am just trying to understand what I can do, it would be good if someone could explain why the drive option /d cannot be set while specifying /sagerun:n
Or is it possible, by some way, to run /sagerun for a specific drive?
Thanks.
Hi,
Not coming from the windows world, I'm confused about licensing.
I think my knowledge may be out of date. Before we gave up with windows web servers (IIS 2),
we used to have to pay Client Access licence's. This worked out quite expensive.
Is it cheaper to host 1000's of users on Windows than use Free open source software tools?
http://serverfault.com/questions/124329/network-load-balancing-efficience-and-limits.
This post suggests I can pay $15 a month, for unlimited users.
I certainly hope that this is unbiased view, I am a professional and use the right technology
for the right job. I hope i am not feeling the wrath of a windows (or linux for that matter) fanboy.
Perhaps a Microsoft certified Licensing person can clear this up.
Should i be recommending to startups windows servers and products over lamp?
Cheers!
Hi,
I have been stumped by this issue for some time, I created a custom ADM template for a customer to populate the search providers in Internet Explorer 7 and 8.
The custom ADM works fine and I have set 3 search providers, the problem is that I cannot change them (the customer wants to change the entry for wikipedia from EN to NL), I edited the ADM file but the clients seem to keep on using the old settings.
Removing/replacing the adm file has no effect either, the settings remain. I used the following article as a base: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918238
For IE8 you need to work with a name instead of a UID for the default entry, that works as expected. but there seems to be no way to change the setting once in place.
In Windows 8, when I go into Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization\Window Color and Appearance the amount of control over window colors is greatly reduced as compared to Windows 7. The color controls do not allow you to make Window borders display in black.
Is there some other way to set the window border color in Windows 8?
Edit 1: Clearly the standard way does not work in Windows 8. The question is, is there another way? Perhaps through the registry for example?
Edit 2: I tried copying the values in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM from my Win7 system to the Win8 system without success (killing the 2 DWM processes after each change - they are automatically restarted and do use the new values).
Basically I love quick launch and pinning is not for me, I can't just pin 50 apps, nor pin them to start menu / use the win + type method.
Anyway, Quick Launch works perfectly under Win7 IF you don't use the language bar. If you use it, sometimes (or always) it may fail to start/appear, you have to readd it.
So my question is: Is there a tray app, a RainMeter way to show this? (First would be better).
Thanks. (Best would be if I could switch layout globally but that train is gone. (Look at the changing global layout. Thank you Microsoft. (Irony included)).
