• Python Pari Library?

  Pari/GP is an excellent library for functions relating to number theory. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be an up to date wrapper for python anywhere around, (pari-python uses an old version of pari) and I'm wondering if anyone knows of some other library/wrapper that is similar to pari or one that uses pari. I'm aware of SAGE, but it's far too large for my needs. GMPY is excellent as well, but there are some intrinsic pari functions that I miss, and I'd much rather use python than the provided GP environment. NZMATH, mpmath, scipy and sympy were all taken into consideration as well. On a related note, does anyone have any suggestions on loading the pari dll itself and using the functions contained in it? I've tried to very little success, other than loading it and learning about function pointers.

  If I want to inject a globally scoped array variable into a page's client-side javascript during a full page postback, I can use: this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterArrayDeclaration("WorkCalendar", "\"" + date.ToShortDateString() + "\""); to declare and populate a client-side javascript array on the page. Nice and simple. But I want to do the same from a async postback from an UpdatePanel. The closest I can figure so far is to create a .js file that just contains the var declaration, update the file during the async postback, and then use a ScriptManagerProxy.Scripts.Add to add the .js file to the page's global scope. Is there anything simpler? r iz doin it wrong?

• Many to Many Association Tables - Is it customary to put additional columns in these tables?

  We've encountered the following situation in our database. We have table 'A' and table 'B' which have a M2M relationship. The association table is named 'AB' and contains a FK column to table 'A' and a FK column to table 'B'. Now we've identified a need to store additional data about this association. For example, a date when the association occurred, and who made the association etc. We've decided to put these additional columns in the 'AB' association table. However, something tells me this is frowned upon by database purists. On the other hand, it makes no sense to us to create yet an additional table to store this associated data. What's the prevailing thought on this?

  I have a workspace with two projects in it. One is a static library (we'll call it Project A). The other is a console app that links with the static library (we'll call it Project B). I went to Project B's properties and checked off Project A as a dependency of Project B. So I make a change to a file in Project A and rebuild Project B. It correctly discovers the changes to the file in Project A and rebuilds Project A. However, when it gets to Project B it says: Target is up to date. Nothing to be done. How can I tell it to run the linker everytime Project A is changed?

  I recently attended a talk by a Sun engineer Charlie Hunt regarding performance. The talk was interesting enough but one question was regarding release date of 1.7. He said it's delayed as there are parties who are refusing to sign off JSRs they own and thus preventing the 1.7 release. It apparently has something to do with the cost of determining your Sun compliance. I would be interested to know the full story if anyone knows or can point me in the right direction. What triggered my question was the amazing long release notes for 6u18. Thanks

  Hello I would like to know if there is any API feature that can tell me which users liked my application page. I know that it is possible to check if a user is a fan of any given Page using page.isFan verification or to get the number of fans. But is it possible to get the fans' User ID? If so, is it possible to get that data ordered by the date they became fans of the page? For exemple usign FQL i can get the user ID of someone o like an facebook object like post or photo. http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/fql/like Can i do this for the people who liked my page? • How do I do a grouping by year?

  I have a books model with a date type column named publish_date. On my views I'm iterating through the books and I want to group the books by year such that I have a heading for every year and books that were published on that year to be listed below the year heading. So by starting with "2010" all books published on 2010 would be listed, then another heading "2009" with all books published in 2009 listed below it and so forth. <% @all_books.each do |book| %> <%=link_to book.title + ", (PDF, " + get_file_size(book.size) + ")" %> <% end %> By doing a book.publish_date.strftime("%Y") I am able to get the year but I do not know how to group the entries by year. • Symfony 1.3 and forms: the password changes when i click on 'Save', why??

  Hi, i have installed sfDoctrineGuardUser and have created this model that inherits sfGuardUser model: Usuario: inheritance: extends: sfGuardUser type: simple columns: nombre_apellidos: string(60) sexo: boolean fecha_nac: date provincia: string(60) localidad: string(255) email_address: string(255) avatar: string(255) avatar_mensajes: string(255) I have also created a module called 'miembros' based on that model. Well, I log normally through sfGuardAuth/signin, then i go to "miembros/edit/id/$id_of_the_member_i_used_to_log_in" and push 'Save' button. Then i logout. If i try to log in again, it says: "The username and/or password is invalid". Later, i have realized that when click 'Save' the value of the field 'password' changes (well its encrypted version). So that is the reason why i can not then log in. But, why the value of the password change when i click on 'Save' ??? Regards Javi

• Identity column SQL Server 2005 inserting same value twice

  I have a stored procedure that inserts into a table (where there is an identity column that is not the primary key- the PK is inserted initially using the date/time to generate a unique value). We then use SCOPEIDENTITY() to get the value inserted, then there is some logic to generate the primary key field value based on this value, which is then updated back to the table. In some situations the stored procedure is called simultaneously by more than one process, resulting in "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint..." errors. This would seem to indicate that the identity column is allowing the same number to be inserted for more than one record. First question- how is this possible? Second question- how to stop it...there's no error handling currently so I'm going to add some try/ catch logic- but would like to understand the problem fully to deal with properly

  I'm looking for something that applies the collaboration focus (one location/URL, always up-to-date, multi-person online read/write access anywhere) of google docs / google spreadsheets to wireframing. Bonus points if, like Google Docs, it needs only a browser yet also works offline. More bonus points if it supports automatic revisions. Even more bonus points if you can hand out login-less 'invitation' URLs like Flickr does, instead of forcing people into signing up for accounts or using their home accounts. To start off, there's one called iPlotz, but it didn't enchant me -- ironically, mostly because of its akward UI, which can't hold a candle to omnigraffle (don't let that prevent you from giving it a try though). And no, paper prototyping, wonderful as it is, does not qualify: it does not combine being instantly globally shareable & editable very well :-)

  I have a table 'games' for a football league as follows: date home_team_id away_team_id home_score away_score - 1 2 6 21 - 3 1 7 19 I can't figure out how to dynamically generate a list of team ID's ordered by Wins (then points for if poss)? -- I have this query which works fine when I have a $team_id but of cause then I can only do 1 team at a time, and that doesn't allow for ordering at query level ((SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `games` WHERE ((`home_score` > `away_score`) AND `home_team_id` = '.$team_id.')) + (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM `games` WHERE ((`home_score` < `away_score`) AND `away_team_id` = '.$team_id.'))) AS `wins` I wonder if i can use this with some form of GROUP, or mySQL can know the $team_id itself? I've also tried some multiple JOINs with the 'team' table but they didn't work either. • .Net Culture Insensitive Comparisons - Example of when this is needed

  I am revising for the MCTS example and am on a small section regarding Culture-Insensitive comparisons. I get the principle, you don't two items which are the same (i.e dates) but are displayed differently and hence are pragmatically marked as different. However call me stupid but I am finding it hard to see where I can use it is practice, for example why would you have two different date times, in the same code, in which they are different cultures? The only way to do so would be if you manually override the one of the datatypes cultures and why would you do that? Any example of a real-world application of culturally insensitive comparisons?   CREATE TABLE Customer ( customerID int identity (500,20) CONSTRAINT . . dateCreated datetime DEFAULT GetDate() NOT NULL, dateModified datetime DEFAULT GetDate() NOT NULL ); When i insert a record, dateCreated and dateModified gets set to default date/time. When i update/modify the record, dateModified and dateCreated remains as is? What should i do? Obviously, i need to dateCreated value to remain as was inserted the first time and dateModified keeps changing when a change/modification occurs in the record fields. In other words, can you please write a sample quick trigger? I don't know much yet... Any help will be appreciated.

And i need to store them temporarily in my app. i dont want to use sqlite. so i was wondering if i should use core data for this purpose. I read some articles but i still dont have a clear picture of how to do it, coz i have used core data only with sqlite. I want to do the following things : Will receive table data from a web service. Have to perform certain calculations on those fields. Will send the data back in xml format to the server. How do i convert the xml data into int, date or any other data type? and how do i store it in managed data objects? Can anyone please help me with this??? thnx for your time.

  I am looking into the iPhone in app purchased models and need to implement a subscription. Ex content will be available for 24 hours. Now the most important thing is that it needs to be available on all the other devices, so bought on the iPhone, viewable on the iPad. I'm not sure how this works ? I need to store some information on the developer server but is this the transaction id and current date/time so when launching the app on the iPad, you will attempt to buy the content again. Apple will see that this user already bought that and hopefully returns the transaction ID. At that moment I can verify if the time limit it still valid or not. Can anyone confirm this method off working? If this is correct is there a 'renew'?
