• Does a Perl module know where it is installed?

  Hi Perl programmers, I have started creating a Perl package that contains a default email template. The MANIFEST looks something like: SendMyEmail.pm SendMyEmail/defualt_email.tt Currently I know where the module (and the template) are - but does the module itself know where on disk it is? So could the module find the default template without my help? # This is what I would like to do. package SendMyEmail; sub new { my ($self, $template) = @_; $template ||= $dir_of_SendMyEmail .'/SendMyEmail/default_email.tt'; # ?? } Is there a better way of including a templates text, or a better place to put the template? • Where do I put the Current user query so as to not repeat per controller?

  I have a standard query that gets the current user object: @user = User.find_by_email(session[:email]) but I'm putting it as the first line in every single controller action which is obviously not the best way to do this. What is the best way to refactor this? Do I put this as a method in the Application controller (and if so, can you just show me a quick example)? Do I put the entire @user object into the session (has about 50 columns and some sensitive ones like is_admin)? Or is there another way to remove this kind of redundancy?

• Can NTFS-Search(An OSS project) scan any file on NTFS volume?

  I want to apply NTFS-Search to our project. Our project have to find the files which we specified.(fast and exactly!) But I'm not sure the program(NTFS-Search) works well. What if the file specified is system file? What if the file is being opened by a process with NO_READ_SHARE_MODE? Do you think NTFS-Search can find any files? I don't know about NTFS filesystem well. So I can't find the answer myself. Is there anyone who knows that? I tried to find their email address, but I couldn't find. Thanks in advance.

  I have a Person model and an Address Model: class Person < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :address accepts_nested_attributes_for :address end class Address < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :person end In my people controller I have @person.build_address in my new action. My forms builds correctly. The problem is that when I submit the form, a person record and an address record is created but they aren't linked via the address_id column in the Person table. • MVC Forms Authentication with custom database

  I'm trying to get forms authentication working for an mvc site. I have a custom database with a users table, and I would like to do my own password validation. I am logging in my user like this: if (PasswordHasher.Hash(password) == dataUser.Password) { FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(email, true); return true; } The problem is, when the session expires obviously the user has to login again. I am thinking I should be storing this Auth cookie in my users table? Update: I'm obviously in desperate need of more education in this area. I just noticed that the user stays authenticated even after an iisreset. I guess what I'm asking is how can I get persistent and non persistent authentication working properly. I want a user to not have to login again if they click "remember", and if they don't then their authentication should expire when the forms authentication is set to expire.

• How to provide global functionality in multi-user database app

  I have been building a multi-user database application (in C#/WPF 4.0) that manages tasks for all employees of a company. I now need to add some functionality such as sending an email reminder to someone when a critical task is due. How should this be done? Obviously I don’t want every instance of the program to be performing this function (Heh each user would get 10+ emails). Should I add the capability to the application as a "Mode" and then run a copy on the database server in this mode or would it be better to create a new app altogether to perform "Global" type tasks? Is there a better way?

• Creating a stored procedure in SQL Server 2008 that will do a "facebook search"

  Hello, I'm trying to implement a facebook search in my system (auto suggest while typing). I've managed to code all the ajax stuff, but I'm not sure how to query the database. I've created a table called People which contains the fields: ID, FirstName, LastName, MiddleName, Email. I've also created a FTS-index on all those fields. I want to create a stored procedure that will get as a parameter the text inserted in the query box and returns the suggestions. For example, When I will write in the textbox the query "Joh Do" It will translate to the query: select * from People where contains(*, '"Joh*"') and contains(*, '"Do*"') Is there a way to do that in stored procedure? P.S I've tried to use the syntax select * from People where contains(*,'"Joh*" and "Do*"') but it didn't returned the expected results, probably because it needs to search the words on different fields. Is there a way to fix that? Thanks.

  Hi, I creating a program which send newsletter with a background image. It works fine on Office 2000-2003, thunderbird, but the background image does not show on Outlook 2007. I read that Microsoft changed the rendering engine and did not support the background css property (it is possible but only applied to the Body). • Why is Windows 7 not following all routes?

  My computer is connected to my secondary router that's running the 192.168.42.0/24 network and my computer also has a route that directs anything on that network to the router, but for anything on that network other than the router itself, it get's the ICMP response of Reply from 192.168.42.194: Destination host unreachable. (with 192.168.42.194 being my computer). So, why is my own computer sending that to ping or tracert when I have the route of 192.168.42.0 with the mask of 255.255.255.0? An IP address of 192.168.42.2 surely fits into that route. If I explicitly add a route for the IP address i am trying to access, it works, like: route add 192.168.42.2 mask 255.255.255.255 192.168.42.1 (the 192.168.42.1 right after mask is gateway, or the device to send the packet to so it can route it further), but why wont it work for the implicit route that's automatically on the table? I disabled my firewall, too (I use Comodo if anyone thinks this still serves as a problem). I'v even tried explicitly adding the gateway of 192.168.42.1 to the 192.168.42.0/24 route instead of it routing through 0.0.0.0's gateway, which is what On-link does. but that didn't work either, so it's not a gateway specification problem. If the host was really unreachable, it would be the router's IP address (192.168.42.1) sending that to me... This network is all of my creation, so there's no problem such as an administrator locking me out, because i am the administrator.

  Is there a quick way to validate a single form field with CodeIgniter to see whether or not that field matches a set of rules? There's the $this-form_validation-run();, but that will return either TRUE or FALSE for the whole form, and that's just not what I'm looking for. For example, if I only wanted to check if the email was valid, checking the whole form is not going to get me the result I'm looking for. I looked through the documentation but couldn't find anything like $this-form_validation-run(); that accepts one parameter and returns TRUE or FALSE if it's valid.

Inside this view control is an image and some text.   I have a school project to do which requires us to develop an online voting website. how do i ensure one user has voted once only? the website is supposed to be in booths in public places which means i cannot use ip addresses or cookies. i was planning to use fb login id or maybe some other email id but i cannot find relevant codes/links. i just want people to go through the procedure of entering the log in id but not go to fb directly. my website cannot be published online. could you please suggest how i can achieve this? it is a bit urgent, thank you!

• DotNetOpenAuth I need some help please

  I know this has been posted before, but never really answered, I'm using the DotNetOpenAuth to try and do GoogleID login, and every time I do details = OResponse.GetExtension<ClaimsResponse>(); I always, always, always get back null, I don't get whats the point of the GoogleID if I can't get back any information, I would think at the very least I would get an email address, so I could associate it other login information in my databse. I just don't understand could really use some help, Im probably just looking at openID in the wrong way. I'm using ASP.NET and looking to use openID/Facebook as my sole means of logging in users, I really don't want to mess with membership roles, or extra junk that ASP.NET likes to add.

• Which messaging services can BlackBerry apps integrate with?

  I'm in charge of having a BlackBerry app developed that translates the contents of a message from one language to another. So the aim would be to have a button at the bottom of a received message which says 'translate this'. I've heard that this kind of thing is possible using J2ME plus the native BlackBerry API. Can this be done for all kinds of messanging features on the Blackberry, or just some? ie I'm thinking SMS, email and BB messages. Secondly, given that the translation itself is done via a web request, I feel like this should be a fairly lightweight application. Would anyone care to hazard a guess how long it might take an experienced contractor to develop such an app?

When you click the Update Cart button it just updates the cart page it's on, but when you click the Shop More button it links to Shop.aspx a different page, and the Checkout links to another page as well. I can't figure out how it is linking just from that code, anybody have any insights?

• System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient cannot authenticate against a POP3 server, right?

  One of our customer seems to have a very old email system, those that ask you to authenticate to the POP3 server before allowing you to send messages through the SMTP server. Regrettably, we have to believe in what our customer tell us for we cannot access their facilities. But as far as I remember, years ago there were mail systems that once you log into the POP3, the STMP server is kept open for a few minutes for the client IP. Our application sends messages by using System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient which seems to be unable to authenticate to those kinds of servers. Is that correct? If so, what would be the simplest workaround? I was thinking of a minimal POP3 implementation (just the login part of the protocol). Would that work? Thanks in advance.
