• Err Web Service?

  Hi All I am trying to implement a feature. But I've never had anything to do with "Web Services" before, other than using them. I have a desktop application, and I want that application to be able to sort of "post" some information (i.e. email address, username, user-selected options (just plain text) etc) to an application or "web service" on my ASP.NET web server.   I required to write a small web application that allow customer to select predefined layout template in html and be able to modify it. The application need to allow customer to add block text to pre defined area and images. The block texts need to be able to reorder based on customer need. eg. move up , move down or move to sidebar. THe complete layout will be able to convert to table layout and inline css due to email program doesn't like div & css. When you click the Update Cart button it just updates the cart page it's on, but when you click the Shop More button it links to Shop.aspx a different page, and the Checkout links to another page as well. I can't figure out how it is linking just from that code, anybody have any insights?

• Two DHCP Servers, Block Clients for one of them?

  I am building out a kickstart network that resides on a different VLAN uses its own DHCP server. For some reason, my kickstart clients kept getting assign IPs from my primary DHCP server. The way I have it set up is that I have a primary DHCP server on this router here: 192.168.15.1 Connected to that DHCP server is a switch with the IP of 192.168.15.2. My kickstart (Scientific Linux) server is connected to that switch on two ports: Port 2 - where the kickstart server communicates to the rest of the production network via eth0. The IP assigned to the server on that interface is 192.168.15.100 (on eth0). The details are: Interface: eth0 IP: 192.168.15.100 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.15.1 Port 7 - has it's own VLAN ID (along with port 8). The kickstart server is connected to that port with the IP of 172.16.15.100 (on eth1). Again, the details are: Interface: eth1 IP: 172.16.15.100 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: none The kickstart server runs its own DHCP server and assigns them over the eth1. Most of the kick starts are built over the kickstart VLAN through port 8. To prevent the kickstart DHCP server from assigning addresses over the production network, I have the route setup like so: route add -host 255.255.255.255 dev eth1 At this point, the clients kept getting assign IPs from the 192.168.15.1 DHCP server. I need to figure out a way to block client requests from reaching that DHCP. Its should be noted that but I also build KVM hosts on the kickstart server as well, so I need those KVMs to have the ability to get DHCP requests from the 192.168.15.1 DHCP server via the bridge network once I finish resolved this particular problem. (Currently, they communicate via NAT). So what would be done to resolve this? Through iptables or some sort of routing I need to put in? • Amazon S3 as secure backup without multiple invoices

  I'm storing copies of database backups on Amazon S3 using the Python Boto library. But I worry that if my web server was hacked, those backups could be deleted using the credentials I need to do the upload. Ok, so I know you can grant permissions to another Amazon email address, so I can imagine doing that after an upload then removing the original user's write access BUT in this scenario I now end up with 2 accounts and 2 sets of invoices to give to accounts every month. Is there a solution to this that doesn't require a new Amazon account for each web server I run?

• Sending out 20,000+ emails with asp.net

  I am writing an application that will need to send a massive amount of emails to our students who will be selected from our database (each email will be personalized to the extent that will include their name, course of study etc...so needs to be sent one at a time). I could do this looping over an SmtpClient, but I'm afraid that with the numbers I'm trying to send, I'll ultimately run into timeout issues or my thread being killed because of lack of machine resources. At this point I'm just looking for suggestions of a better way to handle this, or if looping over SmtpClient is an ok solution, how I should go about handling it to prevent what I posted above. Would a web service be a better alternative? Please advise, TIA

• How does Google implement Microsoft Exchange access?

  I know with Android 2.x there is the ability to tap into Microsoft Exchange, for at least email, if not calendar and contacts. I would like to see how this was accomplished. Particularly because Microsoft Exchange exposes SOAP web services, and I understand there is no native Android support for SOAP. Since this is open source, shouldn't I be able to find something in the Android source? If so, can you point me in the right direction of where to find it in the ~4Gig (!) source? I want to develop an application that accesses Exchange contacts and calendars, but don't want to reinvent that piece. Any other guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Pass information back from an iframe?

  Right now i'm building a firefox plugin that duplicates some functionality on my website. It takes in an email address and then returns information to the user. The easiest way to do this in the plugin is to use an Iframe and render that super simple form on my website. All of this works great, but to make the plugin really useful, i would like the plugin to have access to the information that the iframe renders, so it can use it in the current window that the user is in. Is it possible to pass information back through an Iframe in this manner? I know there are quite a few domain access restrictions with Iframes, so any help or insight is appreciated!!

  I'm currently trying to write a script in RoR to go into my PGAdmin database and look at a list of users, THEN ignore users that have an image path but look at users who don't have one and then upload a link of a generic photo into their row. The form is a simple info box which pops up, and clicking anywhere on it does the same thing (sort of like Outlook's email notifier.)   i have used a mail function. after inserting every record simultaneously from multiple PC. • Is it possible to set a parameterized build or pass an environment variable via a hudson build trigger?

  I'd like to use hudson to trigger a "promotion" of a build. The build would be a simple script that just copies a release candidate installer file from one location to another. (development dir to release/stable dir) Our build server is not on the public internet, but I want to be able to send an email or a text message or an IM with the build number to hudson, which will parse the build number and then do the copy/move. In looking at the jabber/IM plugin it does not look like this is possible (the parameter part) Has anyone solved this in some way? Should I use some other mechanism? I would prefer not to have to do the manual steps each time (SCP/FTP, etc) - I just want any QA team member to be able to trigger the build server to do the promotion.

• VPC SSH port forward into private subnet

  Ok, so I've been racking my brain for DAYS on this dilema. I have a VPC setup with a public subnet, and a private subnet. The NAT is in place of course. I can connect from SSH into a instance in the public subnet, as well as the NAT. I can even ssh connect to the private instance from the public instance. I changed the SSHD configuration on the private instance to accept both port 22 and an arbitrary port number 1300. That works fine. But I need to set it up so that I can connect to the private instance directly using the 1300 port number, ie. ssh -i keyfile.pem [email protected] -p 1300 and 1.2.3.4 should route it to the internal server 10.10.10.10. Now I heard iptables is the job for this, so I went ahead and researched and played around with some routing with that. These are the rules I have setup on the public instance (not the NAT).   I'm using System.Net.Mail to send out a few emails. The emails are being sent by our internal mail server to local addresses. However all of the messages are going straight to junk in Outlook. The messages are being sent from valid email addresses. What would be causing our our servers to label it as junk? • How to create a fully qualified hyperlink to a resource dynamically?

  In ASP.NET I'd like to create a link which points to a specific Uri and send this link in an email to a user, for instance something like http://www.BlaBla.com/CustomerPortal/Order/9876. I can create the second part of the Uri /CustomerPortal/Order/9876 dynamically in code-behind. My question is: How can I create the base Uri http://www.BlaBla.com without hardcoding it in my application? Basically I want to have something like: http://localhost:1234/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on my development machine) http://testserver/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on an internal test server) http://www.BlaBla.com/CustomerPortal/Order/9876 (on the production server) So is there a way to ask the server where the application is running: "Please tell me the base Uri of the application" ? Or any other way? Thank you in advance!
