• Protect Files from Git

  I'm using Git with WindRiver to manage a project of mine. The code is being managed, however the project files (such as .cproject, .project, .wrmakefile, and .wrproject) are not. However when I switch branches, Git deletes those files spite them being in .gitignore, thereby removing my ability to compile the code without having to revert commits or keeping a backup. So, is there a way to say to Git - ignore these files and don't touch them no matter what?

  I have installed XAMPP on my computer which is Windows 8 pro. I use to work with Windows 7 every time I run the index.php file on Windows 8 it shows the code on the browser IE10. Here is what I have done: I have named the file correctly: index.php I have installed the server and saved the files inside c:/xampp/htdocs/PHP/ I have used to open and close all PHP tags and everything else seems working fine, like, PHPMyAdmin, and the Ini file I don't know whats wrong and it is driving me crazy ...   We are doing a migration of our Sybase database that has a utf8 encoding to a server with iso 1 encoding. We are just using char and Varchar for our strings. Will doing backup and restore not truncate any strings? I was thinking that Char and Varchar are just single byte characters.

What are the side effects of performing a MySQLDump without locking all the tables; Is the DB snapshot I get this way, consistent? • Does SQL Server have any kind of magic undo feature?

  Long story short is I tried to quickly update a single row in SQL Server using the Management studio and just typed UPDATE table SET column='value' and forgot the WHERE other_column='other_value' portion. Went for lunch, came back and theres 15 unread emails waiting for me. Happened about an hour ago, waiting for the database guy to come back to see when the last backup was. There's no magic UNDO feature though is there?

  I have lost all file/folder security permissions of a SBS 2003 installation and was wondering is there some command I can run to restore system file/folder permissions to there default values.   I am writing web application using ASP.NET MVC + NHibernate + Postres stack. I wonder if images uploaded should be stored in database as binary blobs or on filesystem (and reference only in db). One advantage of db storage I can think of is easy backup/recovery of all data without reverting to filesystem copy tools. On the other hand I suspect that filesystem access may be faster (but is it especially when dealing with many concurrent requests?) What are your suggestions?

  Does cassandra replicates only on write procedure (with choosen consistency level)? Is there any auto-replicate option for absent nodes, if i want symetric data in every node? If I plug in new node to cluster there is no auto replication - how to sync data from others nodes with new one? If I want replication like multimaster (2 nodes) with slave backup (1 node) known from MySQL, what is the proper logic setup and manage that on cassandra (3 nodes)? How about two nodes?
