  • Clean up upon the kill signal

    - by Begui
How do you handle clean up when the program receives a kill signal? For instance, there is an application I connect to that wants any third party app (my app) to send a finish command. What is the best say to send that finish command when my app has been destroyed with a kill -9?

  • help translate this week query from Oracle PL/SQL to SQL Server 2008

    - by Sarah Vessels
I have the following query that runs in my Oracle database and I want to have the equivalent for a SQL Server 2008 database: SELECT TRUNC( /* Midnight Sunday */ NEXT_DAY(SYSDATE, 'SUN') - (7*LEVEL) ) AS week_start, TRUNC( /* 23:59:59 Saturday */ NEXT_DAY(NEXT_DAY(SYSDATE, 'SUN') - (7*LEVEL), 'SAT') + 1 ) - (1/(60*24)) + (59/(60*60*24)) AS week_end FROM DUAL CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 4 /* Get the past 4 weeks */ What the query does is get the start of the week and the end of the week for the last 4 weeks. It generates data like the following: WEEK_START WEEK_END 2010-03-07 00:00:00 2010-03-13 23:59:59 2010-02-28 00:00:00 2010-03-06 23:59:59 ...

In his design users will need to connect to Linux server via VNC or alike to use the app. I am not familiar with this kind of application design. I'd appretiate any help explainig pros and cons of this approach vs. web and perhaps vs. traditional client-server design Thank you

  • Why we need to read() before write() in TCP server program?

    - by Naga
Hi, As per my understanding a simple TCP server will be coded as follows. socket() - bind() - listen() - accept() - read() - write() The clients will be written as follows. socket() - bind()(Optional) - connect() - write() - read() Please note the order difference in read() and write() calls between client and server program. Is it a requirement to always read() before write() in a server program and if, then why? Thanks, Naga

  • Creating and writing file from a FileOutputStream in Java

    - by Althane
Okay, so I'm working on a project where I use a Java program to initiate a socket connection between two classes (a FileSender and FileReceiver). My basic idea was that the FileSender would look like this: try { writer = new DataOutputStream(connect.getOutputStream()); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } //While we have bytes to send while(filein.available() >0){ //We write them out to our buffer writer.write(filein.read(outBuffer)); writer.flush(); } //Then close our filein filein.close(); //And then our socket; connect.close(); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); The constructor contains code that checks to see if the file exists, and that the socket is connected, and so on. Inside my FileReader is this though: input = recvSocket.accept(); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(input.getInputStream())); FileOutputStream fOut= new FileOutputStream(filename); String line = br.readLine(); while(line != null){ fOut.write(line.getBytes()); fOut.flush(); line = br.readLine(); } System.out.println("Before RECV close statements"); fOut.close(); input.close(); recvSocket.close(); System.out.println("After RECV clsoe statements"); All inside a try-catch block. So, what I'm trying to do is have the FileSender reading in the file, converting to bytes, sending and flushing it out. FileReceiver, then reads in the bytes, writes to the fileOut, flushes, and continues waiting for more. I make sure to close all the things that I open, so... here comes the weird part. When I try and open the created text file in Eclipse, it tells me "An SWT error has occured ... recommended to exit the workbench... see .log for more details.". Another window pops up saying "Unhandled event loop exception, (no more handles)". However, if I try to open the sent text file in notepad2, I get ThisIsASentTextfile Which is good (well, minus the fact that there should be line breaks, but I'm working on that...). Does anyone know why this is happening? And while we're checking, how to add the line breaks? (And is this a particularly bad way to transfer files over java without getting some other libraries?)

  • Can I use .NET with classic ASP?

    - by Wade73
Due to a customer requirement I am forced to use classic ASP, so I am wondering if I could use .Net (or maybe JScript which as new features) to try to add some advanced features. I really would like a decent way to connect to SQL Server, so if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it. Thanks. Wade

Understandable as they are referred in other tables as Foreign keys... relation is needed to connect them for rdbms platform... but why would one refer to other columns as UNIQUE, what is benefit of doing so ?)

  • How to make a simple grafical interface in C# for DCRAW

    - by Espinas.iss
Hello, i have a problem. I need to make a simple GUI in Visual Studio 2008 using C Sharp that uses a Dave Coffins DCRAW written in C but I don't know how to "connect" dcraw.c (DCRAW source code) file with Csharp... UFRAW is the example of grafical interface that uses dcraw but I can't find it's source code. My application should be very simple: to recognize raw file on digital camera or any disc and uses one interpolatio algorithm on that raw file.

  • sql 2008 express connection problems

    - by user163457
Hi, I've just installed a fresh copy of SQL 2008 Express. before I did anything I opened Management Studio and successfully connected using Window Authentication. However I tried to run the following on the command line "telnet localhost 1433" and got the error "Could not open connection to the host, on port 1433: Connect failed" I checked netstat and there is nothing listening on port 1433. Before I go any further, is there a problem with the install? thanks, Shane

  • CompareValidator issue on Firefox

    - by costin
Hi, I need to validate a date in a web forms application. For this I use a CompareValidator with Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Date" The problem is that this Validator doesn't work properly on Firefox with 2 digit years. ( javascript error: m[2] is undefined) With a 4 digits year it's working properly. This problem is described also here: https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/355573/comparevalidator-client-side-bug-two-digit-year-in-mozilla-based-browsers-throws-js-exception Does anyone know a nice workaround for this? Thanks

  • remove schema from linq datacontexts

    - by Jeremy
When I add stored procedures to a linq datacontext, by default visual studio prefixes the stored procedure with the sql schema that it is in. Is there any way to stop this? In our environment, the stored procedures may be moved to other schemas over time, and we will default the schema based on the sql user used to connect. Do I have to do this manually or can I somehow turn off the schema prefixes?
