• What good technology podcasts are out there?

  Yes, Podcasts, those nice little Audiobooks I can listen to on the way to work. With the current amount of Podcasts, it's like searching a needle in a haystack, except that the haystack happens to be the Internet and is filled with too many of these "Hot new Gadgets" stuff :( Now, even though I am mainly a .NET developer nowadays, maybe anyone knows some good Podcasts from people regarding the whole software lifecycle? Unit Testing, Continous Integration, Documentation, Deployment... So - what are you guys and gals listening to? Please note that the categorizations are somewhat subjective and may not be 100% accurate as many podcasts cover several areas. Categorization is made against what is considered the "main" area. • WPF CommandParameter is NULL first time CanExecute is called

  I have run into an issue with WPF and Commands that are bound to a Button inside the DataTemplate of an ItemsControl. The scenario is quite straight forward. The ItemsControl is bound to a list of objects, and I want to be able to remove each object in the list by clicking a Button. The Button executes a Command, and the Command takes care of the deletion. The CommandParameter is bound to the Object I want to delete. That way I know what the user clicked. A user should only be able to delete their "own" objects - so I need to do some checks in the "CanExecute" call of the Command to verify that the user has the right permissions. The problem is that the parameter passed to CanExecute is NULL the first time it's called - so I can't run the logic to enable/disable the command. However, if I make it allways enabled, and then click the button to execute the command, the CommandParameter is passed in correctly. So that means that the binding against the CommandParameter is working. The XAML for the ItemsControl and the DataTemplate looks like this: <ItemsControl x:Name="commentsList" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=SharedDataItemPM.Comments}" Width="Auto" Height="Auto"> <ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Button Content="Delete" FontSize="10" Command="{Binding Path=DataContext.DeleteCommentCommand, ElementName=commentsList}" CommandParameter="{Binding}" /> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ItemsControl.ItemTemplate> </ItemsControl> So as you can see I have a list of Comments objects. I want the CommandParameter of the DeleteCommentCommand to be bound to the Command object. So I guess my question is: have anyone experienced this problem before? CanExecute gets called on my Command, but the parameter is always NULL the first time - why is that? Update: I was able to narrow the problem down a little. I added an empty Debug ValueConverter so that I could output a message when the CommandParameter is data bound. Turns out the problem is that the CanExecute method is executed before the CommandParameter is bound to the button. I have tried to set the CommandParameter before the Command (like suggested) - but it still doesn't work. Any tips on how to control it. Update2: Is there any way to detect when the binding is "done", so that I can force re-evaluation of the command? Also - is it a problem that I have multiple Buttons (one for each item in the ItemsControl) that bind to the same instance of a Command-object? • Show Recent Documents in Sharepoint

  Hello, I want to display the list of recently added documents to any (or a few) library in a Sharepoint site. Unfortunately, there is no Content Query Web Part in the Web Part list. Also, I can't deploy any custom code. I came up with the idea, to create workflows for each library, which will copy the uploaded document to a "Recent Documents" library. But my client does not want this solution, saying that it will increase the storage usage. He also says that he saw this done in another Sharepoint site and insists on that the whole thing shouldn't be a problem, cause it's a basic Sharepoint function. Perhaps he is right, perhaps he is not. Either way, I'm to solve this. Thank you.

• Android ListView: get data index of visible item

  I have an Android ListView created with a SimpleAdapter that has more items in it than fit in the screen. After the list has been scrolled, I need to get the position in the data model of the first visible item in the list. Basically I want a function like: listView.getChildAt(0).getPositionInDataModel(). Adapter has a few functions in it, like getItemId(position) that looked useful; however, the SimpleAdapter implementation just returns the passed in position, not a row id like I'd hoped. A brute force solution would be to get the View at index 0, and compare it to the view for each item in the adapter. However, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get the view for a particular position from the adapter. Anyone have any thoughts?

• Android ListView scrolling to top

  Hi, I have a ListView with custom rows. When any of these rows is clicked, the ListView's data is regenerated. I'd like the list to scroll back to the top when this happens. I initially tried using setSelection(0) in each row's OnClickListener to achieve this but was unsuccessful (I believe because the ListView loses its scroll position when its data is invalidated - so my call to setSelection is undone. I still don't understand how the ListView decides where to scroll to after invalidation, though). The only working solution I know of was given by Romain Guy here: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/127ca57414035301 It involves (View.post)ing the call to _listView.setSelection(0). I found this to perform quite poorly. The newly generated list shows up with it's scroll location unchanged and there is a considerable delay before it scrolls back to the top. Is there any better way to achieve this functionality? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

• ZF2 Zend\Db Insert/Update Using Mysql Expression (Zend\Db\Sql\Expression?)

  Is there any way to include MySQL expressions like NOW() in the current build of ZF2 (2.0.0beta4) through Zend\Db and/or TableGateway insert()/update() statements?   Hello there, I am new to JqGrid, so please bare with me. I am having some problems with styling the cells when I use a showlink formatter. • Android - ExpandableListView change background for child items

  I'm using ExpandableListView in my app and one of the complains I get from the users is that when the list item is expanded it's hard to visually distinguish where the child item ends and next group item begins. So I would like to change background of the child list item to the different shade. Brutal attempts that I've made so far were based on directly changing background color and text of the elements inside the child view item but that leads to loss of hovers and highlights. So my question is - what is a good strategy to achieve the above? I tried styles and selectors but what really bums me - if I change background for child item then I need to add selectors for all combinations of focus/enabled etc. when all I'm trying to do it to overwrite a single thing. Is there a way to inherit parent style and set background only for non- focused, enabled child item with other styles retained?

• ConfirmButtonExtender using ModalPopupExtender fails in UpdatePanel after partial postback?

  Hello, We're trying to add a more fancy looking confirm messages than the regular JavaScript-confirm message to our delete-buttons in a list of comments on our site. To accomplish this we're trying to use the ConfirmButtonExtender together with a ModalPopupExtender. The comments are displayed using a ListView inside a UpdatePanel so that the paging of the ListView doesn't reload the entire page. Using the ConfirmButtonExtender works fine the first time the list is loaded but if we for instance go to the second page of comments using the pager, the ConfirmButtonExtender doesn't work anymore. The extender shows up when clicking Delete but when I click OK the page makes a full reload without triggering the delete event. Has anyone experienced the same problem and found a solution to it? • PerformanceCounter.NextValue hangs on some machines.

Other counters like new PerformanceCounter("Processor", "% Processor Time", "_Total") seems to work fine. Any suggwstions why is that?

• Accessing UIPopoverController for UIActionSheet on iPad

  On the iPad, one can show a UIActionSheet using -showFromBarButtonItem:animated:. This is convenient because it wraps a UIPopoverController around the action sheet and it points the popover's arrow to the UIBarButtonItem that is passed in. However, this call adds the UIBarButtomItem's toolbar to the list of passthrough views - which isn't always desirable. And, without a pointer to the UIPopoverController, one can't add other views to the passthrough list. Does anyone know of a sanctioned approach to getting a pointer to the popover controller? The inner listbox renders fine, but it doesn't actually subscribe to the CollectionChanged event on the collection. I have tried this with ICollection instead of IEnumerable and adding INotifyPropertyChanged as well as replacing INotifyCollectionChanged with INotifyPropertyChanged. The only way I can actually get this to work is to gut my SomeCollection class and inherit from ObservableCollection. My reasoning for trying to role my own INotifyCollectionChanged instead of using ObservableCollection is because I am wrapping a COM collection in the real code. That collection will notify on add/change/remove and I am trying to convert these to INotify events for WPF. Hope this is clear enough (its late).

  Hi, I have asked this question on asp.net forums (http://forums.asp.net/t/1545006.aspx) but i had no valid answer therefore i'll try this here as well. I was working on migrating MVC1 app to MVC2 today and i have come across a problem while changing the ValidationMessage to ValidationMessageFor implementation. The below is the selectlist in my View <%=Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.SecurityQuestions[0].Question, "Some Security question", new { @class = "form_element_select" })%> The below code works fine and i can see the validation message came from modelstate. <%= Html.ValidationMessage("SecurityQuestions_0__Question")%> but this one does not work: <%= Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.SecurityQuestions[0].Question)%> SecurityQuestions is a generic list in my model public List<SecurityQuestion> SecurityQuestions { get; set; } Is this somewhat a bug in "ValidationMessageFor" or am i missing something here?

• ListView items not clickable with HorizontalScrollView inside

  I have quite a complicated ListView. Each item looks something like this: > LinearLayout (vertical) > LinearLayout (horizontal) > include (horizontal LinearLayout with two TextViews) > include (ditto) > include (ditto) > TextView > HorizontalScrollView (this guy is my problem) > LinearLayout (horizontal) In my activity, when an item is created (getView() is called) I add dynamic TextViews to the LinearLayout inside the HorizontalScrollView (besides filling the other, simpler stuff out). Amazingly, performance is pretty good. My problem is that when I added the HorizontalScrollView, my list items became unclickable. They don't get the orange background when clicked and they don't fire the OnItemClickedListener I have set up (to do a simple Log.d call). How can I make my list items clickable again?

  I am trying to bind a dictionary as a DataSource to a ListBox. The solution in How to bind a dicationary to a ListBox in winforms will not work for me because my dictionary is a class-level variable and not a method-level variable, so I can not use var. When you put a class-level variable into new BindingSource(...) with null as the second argument I get an ArgumentNull exception. How do I bind a class-level dictionary as a data source for a list box? I don't like the List< KeyValuePair< string, string work-around becuase Where(...) and First(...) are ugly, complicated, and confusing compared to TryGetValue(...) and other Dictionary functionality.

• In my WCF service with IXmlSerializable class, I get ArrayOfXElement[] instead of ObservableCollecti

  I have an existing class (I didn't write) that implements IXmlSerializable. I decided to create a WCF service so my Silverlight application could access this class. I return the class as List. In the generated proxy, instead of an ObservableCollection like I'm expecting, I get ArrayOfXElement[]. If I remove the IXmlSerializable attribute, I get an the ObservableCollection. I don't quite understand what is happening, but I just want my SL app to receive an ObservableCollection. Is my only choice to create a DTO class and send back a list of those? Any advice?

• Set PageIndex of DataPager

  I have a ListView that I am paging with a DataPager. I would like to set the initial page of the pager on Page_Load. I have tried the DataPager.SetPageProperties method but it's not doing what I need. Here's how I'm calling this method: dataPager.SetPageProperties(3, dataPager.TotalRowCount, false); The line above trims the datasource to start at the third item and paging still starts at 1. This is not what I want. I want to keep the entire list of items and just jump to a specific page in the list. Is there another Property and/or method of a DataPager and/or ListView that I should use? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  I'm writing my first Qt application with PyQt and am having some trouble creating a custom list view. I'd like the list to contain arbitrary widgets (one custom widget in particular). How would I go about this? It seems that the alternative would be to create a table or grid view wrapped in a scrollbar. However, I'd like to be able to take advantage of the model/view approach as well as the nesting (tree-view) support the built-ins handle. EDIT: To clarify, this widget is interactive (contains buttons), so the solution requires more than painting a widget.

• Can you load Google Maps API v3 via Google AJAX API loader

• Render custom form / alter existing rendering template at runtime.

  How do I create reusable custom new item form + preferrably, i don't want to tie this form to content type? I want to force render one hidden field (it could be render on the page, but make invisible or render on the page and display) and set field value programmatically (that's why it has to be rendered - to set it's value). Google has tons of information on how to create custom list form with sharepoint designer, but in my case, i don't want sharepoint designer for the advantages you see below. What i'm trying to achieve I want to be able to have a custom newform to create item (i don't want it to be as default). To open this newForm i would use CustomAction in item's ECB menu. In this form, i want to force render one hidden field and set it's value programmatically. I want to open this form from CustomAction ECB (item's context menu), so i don't want to set this as a default New form template for content type. <XmlDocument NamespaceURI="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/v3/contenttype/forms"> <FormTemplates xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/v3/contenttype/forms"> <New>ListForm</New> </FormTemplates> </XmlDocument> Idea #1 I could create custom RenderingTemplate and set Content type's new form template to my newly created template.
