• VS 11 Beta Cannot start process because a file name has not been provided

  This is what I'm getting when I build my Test project: With this I'm unable to run my tests since they're not being discovered by VS. See the message "Unexpected error detected. Check the Tests Output Pane for details." at the window bottom. Now if you look at the Tests OUTPUT pane you'll have no clue about what's the problem. This is extremely helpful... :) I know VS 11 is in beta but it used to work... I've already restarted VS but it didn't work after that too. Any ideas about what's going on? Would it be a bug somewhere? Note: the only thing I can think is related with VS 2010 uninstall I did sometime ago. Maybe it uninstalled some necessary bits. Beats me...

  For some unknown reason OracleXETNSListener won't start which prevents SQL Developer from connecting to it. • First TDD, Simple 2-tier C# Project - what do I unit test?

  This is probably a stupid question but my googling isn't finding a satisfactory answer. I'm starting a small project in C#, with just a business layer and a data access layer - strangely, the UI will come later, and I have very little (read:no) concept / control over what it will look like. I would like to try TDD for this project. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 (soon to be 2010), I have ReSharper 5, and nUnit. Again, I want to do Test-Driven Development, but not necessarily the entire XP system. My question is - when and where do I write the first unit test? Do I only test logic before I write it, or do I test everything? It seems counter-productive to test things that have no reason to fail (auto-properties, empty constructors)...but it seems like the "No new code without a failing test" maxim requires this. Links or references are fine (but preferably to online resources, not books - I would like to get started ASAP). Thanks in advance for any guidance!

• Open flash chart not working

  I'm trying to implement Open Flash Chart in my website but it doesn't work. The chart just start loading for a second and the loader animation disappear and nothing happening (Only a black swf area). i've downloaded the latest version which is 2 and here is my folders scheme: // ROOT // ? Seriously, wikipedia doesn't cover it well, and I read an article on HN recently comparing git and bzr in some detail, but the author admitted knowing little about mercurial, and the other options didn't get mentioned. (I'm happily using fossil on small win/mac/Linux projects) Please restrict answers to the DVCS aspects of the tool, e.g. The basic unit of vc in hit is the repository- in bazaar it is the branch(http://unspecified.wordpress.com/2010/03/26/why-git-aint-better-than-x/). bugtrackers and wikis are nice, but I'm really interested in the tools themselves, rather than any extras. Unfortunately SO demands a single 'right answer', so I'm making the question community wiki in the hope that users will contribute their knowledge.

  I have create a LINQ-to-SQL project in Visual Studio 2010 using Dynamic Data. In this project I have two tables. One is called phones_extension and the other phones_ten. The list of columns in phones_extension looks like this: id, extension, prefix, did_flag, len, ten_id, restriction_class_id, sfc_id, name_display, building_id, floor, room, phone_id, department_id In phones_ten it looks like this: id, name, pbxid Now, I'd like to be able to somehow make it so that there is an association (or inheritance?) that essentially results in me being able to make a query like phones_extension.ten and it gives me the result of phones_ten.name. Right now I have to get phones_extension.ten_id and then match that against phones_ten.id - I'm trying to get the DBML to handle this translation automatically. Is this possible?

  I'm looking to buy a laptop with the following specs for a developer. The goal will be to have a development machine supplementing the devs desktop. During work hours the dev will be on a beefy desktop. For working while on the go: trains, client sites, code camps, it would be nice to have a machine which can run Visual Studio 2008 without needing to remote desktop into their primary machine. What do you think is the lowest cost laptop meeting this need? Here are the specs I have in mind: SSD drive 64GB-doesn't need to be huge, most data is stored on servers. Will need to fit Windows 7, IIS, SQL Server, and Visual Studio 2010. RAM-3GB processor =Pentium Core 2 duo Screen size = 14 inches. OS doesn't matter. It will be paved with Windows 7 Ultimate optical drive omitted would be a plus. weight and battery life aren't so important because the machine will be plugged in almost all the time.

  To simplify this test case, I created a new default .NET MVC project in Visual Studio 2010, and added the following code to the HTML header in Site.Master: <script type="text/javascript" src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function () { alert('jQuery document ready'); }); </script> This works as expected in the .NET development server. However, when deployed to IIS7, the jQuery(document).ready function is not executed. Needless to say, my actual application is much more complicated. This eliminates all "suspects" except IIS7 deployment. Any thoughts/suggestions?

• How can I convert .eps files to .jpg in ASP.NET?

  I am trying to convert uploaded .eps files to .jpg in my ASP.net application and I am having a hard time finding a .net library that will let me do this. I have tried using the ImageMagick libraries, but I don't have root access to the server in order to install the standard binaries, or run the command line executables. I have also tried the slightly modified project from CodeProject, but it was designed in VS2005 and I have VS2008 and 2010 and I think I run into some compatibility issues while trying to compile and execute the project. Is there a simpler solution available that just works natively in .NET? Thanks, Mike

  I am having a problem with my code. I am using VB.NET and Visual Studio 2010 to write my program. The source of the control that I am using can be found here. First, I imported the Calendar.DayView.dll file into my toolbox to use as a control. I have no access to the Calendar namespace or the Appointment class. I am able to view the properties of both in the Object Browser but I can't edit any of them. Any suggestions?

  Microsoft Silverlight 4 is in beta. It supports PCM audio output. It would be madness to stream PCM over internet (for ex in P2P chart webApp) so we need Pure C# open source PCM to Ogg convertor. No unmanaged code, nothing going out of .net sandbox. So does any one know such Pure C# open source PCM to Ogg convertor? What do I need: Open Source Libs for encoding. Tutorials and blog articles on How to do it, about etc. BTW: why Pure C#? - because Silverlight 4 does not support unmanaged or just not C# DLL's. BTW2: this question is similar to this one but it is different because Ogg is Open Source, free while mp3 will not be free until 2010

• Can I use a MIME type declaration to get an HTML file to open in MS Word?

• Do Precompiled headers help with rebuilds?

  I read some of the questions about precompiled headers but couldn't find a direct answer to that. I usually rebuild my entire Visual Studio 2010 solution. One of the projects in my solution is a C++/CLI project. I thought that using precompiled headers in that project will increase the speed of the compilation. After some experiments, it seems that using precompiled headers only slows the rebuild process. Do precompiled headers only help with builds that didn't completely clean the old files?

• A better way of converting Codepage-1251 in RTF to Unicode

  I am trying to parse RTF (via MSEDIT) in various languages, all in Delphi 2010, in order to produce HTML in unicode. Taking Russian/Cyrillic as my starting point I find that the overall document codepage is 1252 (Western) but the Russian parts of the text are identified by the charset of the font (RUSSIAN_CHARSET 204). So far I am: 1) Use AnsiString (or RawByteString) when parsing the RTF 2) Determine the CodePage by a lookup from the font charset (see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc194829.aspx) 3) Translating using a lookup table in my code: (This table generated from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/goglobal/cc305144.aspx) - I'm going to need one table per supported codepage! There MUST be a better way than this? Preferably something supplied by the OS and so less brittle than tables of constants.

  I am try to set a cell formulat that references cells from other workbooks. However, when I open the programmatically generated workbook, the formula cells show up as #REF!. I print out the formulas that were generated in a log. If I cut and paste those into the cells, the numbers from the external workbooks is pulled in. • Upgrading from SQL Server 2008 Express to 2008 Developer

  Hey Guys, this one is a quick Question: What is the best (or THE) way to change my SQL Express 2008 (with advance...) installation to a 2008 Developer edition? I need to keep the databases, along with the logins and so on. I need to upgrade because, I Want to use all the features in TFS 2010. Do I have to make backups of all the data and uninstall express - install developer? Is there a quicker way? Thanks in advance SOLVED: In the SQL Server Installation Center, there a Edition Upgrade options found under Maintenance.
