    I was going to use the scuttle solution on: http://www.pui.ch/phred/archives/2005/04/tags-database-schemas.html for handling searches on my website. I was wondering how I could take the search input from a user and turn it into a single query. For instance, let's say a user inputted 'blue dogs' in their search query... How could I dynamically update the query to include ('blue', 'dogs') in union and intersection queries?

    I have legacy system where all date fields are maintained in YMD format. Example: 20101123 this is date: 11/23/2010 I'm looking for most optimal way to convert from number to date field. Here is what I came up with: declare @ymd int set @ymd = 20101122 select @ymd, convert(datetime, cast(@ymd as varchar(100)), 112) This is pretty good solution but I'm wandering if someone has better way doing it

  • Fixed background on iPhone Safari

    iPhone Safari seems to have some sort of problem whereby a page with css like this: body { background: #000 url(fixedimage.png) fixed repeat-x; } ...doesn't actually lead to a fixed image. It scrolls as the user scrolls. I've seen plenty of people kvetching about this on the internets, but no real solution. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • Function that converts hex color values to an approximate color name?

    I don't suppose anyone knows of a function (PHP, preferably) that can take a hex color code and give an approximate color name for that hex value. I don't need a solution with 100s of colors. Even if it just amounted to the colors white, black, red, green blue, brown orange and yellow, I'd be pretty well in shape.     I have a custom portlet made for liferay and sometimes it throws an exception. Why it throws exceptions is irrelevant. How to catch exceptions thrown by portlet handler methods in order to email information about them? I know I could do try catching on every handler method but it would be a much more elegant and cleaner solution to catch the exception on a higher level and just email some information about the error. I'm using Spring Portlet MVC, so i got all spring-related niceties at hand.
