  Hi there people, I am currently relearning Ocaml and am in the need of a good editor. There is a new editor from OcamlForge: OCamlEditor http://ocamleditor.forge.ocamlcore.org/. Prerequisite for installation is Lablgtk2. Installing Lablgtk2 on windows is not straight forward and there is good instruction here: http://wwwfun.kurims.kyoto-u.ac.jp/soft/lsl/install-win32.txt I have completed the first two steps and in the third step, as warned, it is failing on the native code version. This is where I am left stranded. How do I check to see if the assembler is on my path? What am I missing here? Please help me move forward from this point. Sincere thanks. Animesh

• Slowness of Netbeans Platform Apps - how to mitigate?

  Hi, We are developing a commerical application (pretty complex) in java using Netbeans IDE. We have 2 options in netbeans to create it- 1. Develop Java desktop app 2. Netbeans Platform app We have requirement that application startup and response times should be very very fast, should be modular etc. We did Proof of Technology by creating apps using both approaches mentioned above. We found Netbeans platform apps are very slow during startup and during screen navigation compared to pure Swing based desktop apps. We tried to implement suggestions provided at http://wiki.netbeans.org/Category:Performance:FAQ and in other blogs and forums to improve on speed of the app but were not successful. We feel for creating a complex desktop app Netbeans platform app would be better suited, but its not meeting our performance requirements (startup and response times, memory footprints, CPU usage guidelines etc). Can any one guide us on how to mitigate our problem of improving performance of Netbeans Platforms apps? Thanks in advance for your help. -bhan

  Hello, I'm trying to build an example of boost::asio http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_43_0/doc/html/boost_asio/example/echo/async_tcp_echo_server.cpp but without any luck. System: Windows Vista, Visual C++ 2008 Pro, Boost 1.43. I've added to the project, at VC, the include path and the additional lib path (see note #1), yet the linker gives me this error: 1>LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'libboost_system-vc90-mt-gd-1_43.lib' What do I do next? In the documentation (the "getting started" part) it says that some boost's components must be built separately. Ok. How do I do this and where do I find them? In the "getting started" page there's the section "6.1 Link From Within the Visual Studio IDE". It just tells me how to link, and not how to build it. Anyone can shed some light? Because I am definitely missing something here. Note #1: There's not "boost_1_43_0/lib" folder but a "libs". The doc needs a refresh.

• Navigating multiples files vi editor

  According to http://www.lagmonster.org/docs/vi2.html the command :p would make vi go to the previous file. Unfortunately, this isn't working for me. However :n works and goes to the next page. What should I use to go to the previous file? For :p I get the message, Hit Return to continue and it stays in the same page. Thanks. Edit: I am sshing to an AIX box and using the vi in Ksh if that helps.

• How to scale an image (in data URI format) in JavaScript (real scaling, not using styling)

  We are capturing a visible tab in a Chrome browser (by using the extensions API chrome.tabs.captureVisibleTab) and receiving a snapshot in the data URI scheme (Base64 encoded string). Is there a JavaScript library that can be used to scale down an image to a certain size? Currently we are styling it via CSS, but have to pay performance penalties as pictures are mostly 100 times bigger than required. Additional concern is also the load on the localStorage we use to save our snapshots. Does anyone know of a way to process this data URI scheme formatted pictures and reduce their size by scaling them down? • $_POST goes empty after adding a new input type "file"

  Hi, I'm not finding a way to understand and fix this and I've done a lot. I've got a script, wish is a simple form, that sends a file trough POST. The second file, process the info. By default, I give to the user a few fields, one of them being a input field of type "file" and there's also, a few "hidden" one's, that gives me values to work with on POST. I found that, when adding a new input of type "file", the $_POST returns array 0, even $_FILES returns nothing. I have no idea how to fix this, and it works just fine when keeping the default input box of type "file". This is the form http://pastie.org/872488 This only happens when: Exists! var_dump( $_POST ), or $_FILES, print_r(), etc Returns nothing. I've tryed to create a array on the input of type "files", like img_p_child[], but nothing. How to solve this ? Thanks for taking your time!

• Lua metatable Objects cannot be purge from memory?

  Hi there, I'm using a proprietary platform that reported memory usage in realtime on screen. I decided to use a Class.lua I found on http://lua-users.org/wiki/SimpleLuaClasses However, I noticed memory issues when purging object created by this using a simple Account class. Specifically, I would start with say 146k of memory used, create 1000 objects of a class that just holds an integer instance variable and store each object into a table. The memory used is now 300k I would then exit, iterating through the table and setting each element in the table to nil. But would never get back the 146k, usually after this I am left using 210k or something similar. If I run the load sequence again during the same session, it does not exceed 300k so it is not a memory leak. I have tried creating 1000 integers in a table and setting these to nil, which does give me back 146k. In addition I've tried a simpler class file (Account2.lua) that doesn't rely on a class.lua. This still incurs memory fragmentation but not as much as the one that uses Class.lua Can anybody explain what is going on here? • Why can't I override WP's 'excerpt_more' filter via my child theme functions?

  I can't seem to get my functions to work for changing the excerpt_more filter of the Twenty Eleven parent theme. I suspect it might actually be add_action( 'after_setup_theme', 'twentyeleven_setup' ); that's the problem, but I've even tried remove_filter( 'excerpt_more', 'twentyeleven_auto_excerpt_more' ) to get rid Twenty Eleven's function and still my functions aren't changing anything... Can you help? • Accept-Encoding headers being sent by browser but not received by server

  I have been trying to debug this for weeks. All of the browsers on all of the clients on my home network are sending 'Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate'. However, that header is somehow, somewhere being dropped before the request makes it to a web server. For example, http://www.whatsmyip.org/http_compression/ says 'No, your browser is not requesting compressed content'. I've used Fiddler to make sure that all of my browsers are indeed sending the header. I've swapped out my router. I've turned off all anti-virus software. Brighthouse/Roadrunner (the local cable ISP) says they are not doing any filtering (and I can't see why they would in this case). Any suggestions would be most welcome!

• JQuery Tooltip and Scrollable Fix

  I have set up the navigation on my site using a scrollable div created with Flowplayer's JQuery tools. I also want to add a tooltip to the individual images within the scrollable div. The problem is the tooltip needs to appear outside of the div. I can adjust the height of the div so you can see the tooltip, but the tooltip is still constrained inside another div. • How do I diff two spreadsheets?

  We have a lot of spreadsheets (xls) in our subversion repository. These are usually edited with gnumeric or openoffice.org, and are mostly used to populate databases for unit testing with dbUnit. There are no easy ways of doing diffs on xls files that I know of, and this makes merging extremely tedious and error prone. I've found Spreadsheet Compare, but it requires Excel 2000 or later. I've also tried to convert the spreadsheets to xml and doing a regular diff, but it really feels as a last resort. Are there any tools for diffing two spreadsheets (xls or ods)? I am primarily looking for a multi-platform/open source tool.

• Pig: Count number of keys in a map

  I'd like to count the number of keys in a map in Pig. I could write a UDF to do this, but I was hoping there would be an easier way. data = LOAD 'hbase://MARS1' USING org.apache.pig.backend.hadoop.hbase.HBaseStorage( 'A:*', '-loadKey true -caching=100000') AS (id:bytearray, A_map:map[]); In the code above, I want to basically build a histogram of id and how many items in column family A that key has. In hoping, I tried c = FOREACH data GENERATE id, COUNT(A_map); but that unsurprisingly didn't work. Or, perhaps someone can suggest a better way to do this entirely. If I can't figure this out soon I'll just write a Java MapReduce job or a Pig UDF.

• MVC - Loading DLL programmactically

  I'm trying to implement a plugable architecture in asp.net MVC. I have based my modules on the following article - http://www.wynia.org/wordpress/2008/12/aspnet-mvc-plugins. I have a DLL that contains a simple controller, and a view. The view is an embedded resource within the DLL. The problem I'm having is, if I drop the DLL in the bin directory of my MVC application manually, then everything works perfectly i.e. the assembly loads correctly. But when I copy the DLL from a file upload input box (via a web form) into the bin directoy, I get an error (The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest.) when trying to load the assembly. I use the same DLL, what could the problem be?

• How can I use Amazon's API in PHP to search for books?

  I'm working on a Facebook app for book sharing, reviewing, and recommendations. I've scoured the web, searched Google using every search phrase I could think of, but I could not find any tutorials on how to access the Amazon.com API for book information. I signed up for an AWS account, but even the tutorials on their website didn't help me one bit. They're all geared toward using cloud computing for file storage and processing, but that's not what I want. I just want to access their API to search info on books. Kind of like how http://openlibrary.org/ does it, where it's a simple URL call to get information on a book (but their databases aren't nearly as populated as Amazon's). Why is it so damned hard to find the information I need on Amazon's AWS site? If anybody could help, I would greatly appreciate it.

• Uninstalling demo/trial of Visual Studio 2008 Team System

  I wish to uninstall the trail copy of VS 2008 Team System, as the trial is coming to its end. I had VS 2008 Professional Edition installed on the machine to start with and it still shows up in Add/Remove Problems. I am hoping that when I uninstall VS 2008 Team System I will be left with a working VS 2008 Professional Edition. When I try to uninstall VS 2008 Team System, I very quickly get an error dialog that says: A problem has been encountered while loading the setup components. Canceling setup. Help! Progress or lack there of so fare I have done dir %temp%*.log in a command prompt and can see any log files that are recent I am going to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Installer#Diagnostic_logging to see if I can get any logging Aaron Stebner's WebLog has a post on where VS put's is log files, he also has a post on were some other products put there log files gives some info about where VS setup puts it's logs etc Aaron Ruckman provided me with the solution after I sent him the log files.

• XNA .FBX Vertex Color Missing

  When I vertex paint and export my models from Blender (or Maya) for use in my XNA 4.0 project, I somehow lose the vertex color channel for the model. I use no custom model object or content pipelines and my own shader throws me the error: The current vertex declaration does not include all the elements required by the current vertex shader. Color0 is missing. I tryed to reopen the model in other modeling tools and the vertex colors are there. What could cause the vertex color channel to not get loaded in XNA 4.0?
