• KVM Guest installed from console. But how to get to the guest's console?

  I'm trying to install a fully virtualized guest (Fedora 14 x86_64) on KVM (RHEL 6), using command-line only (both hypervisor and guest). It goes without errors, and without a tangible result . I'd like to know how to do a text-only installation. So, here's what I've done: # virt-install \ --name=FE --ram=756 --vcpus=1 \ --file=/var/lib/libvirt/images/FE.img --network bridge:br0 \ --nographics --os-type=linux \ --extra-args='console=tty0' -v \ --cdrom=/media/usb/Fedora-14-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso Starting install... As I understand after googling for a couple of days, I should see the guest's output from the text installation, but nothing happens. virt-viewer cannot connect to it, kindly suggesting that I explore all the options by adding --help (which I did). If I reconnect with virsh, I see this: Domain installation still in progress. You can reconnect to the console to complete the installation process. • Unified Auditing - Das neue Auditing in Oracle Database 12c

  In Datenbanken werden fast immer vor allem wichtige Informationen abgelegt. Der Zugriff darauf unterliegt in der Regel gesetzlichen oder betrieblichen Auflagen. Weil der Nachweis, dass diese Auflagen eingehalten werden, ausschliesslich über das Auditing möglich ist, ist eine Datenbank ohne Auditing eigentlich nicht vorstellbar. Ein Artikel der DBA Community hat sich bereits vor einiger Zeit mit den Möglichkeiten und Varianten des Auditierens in der Datenbankversion Oracle Database 11g beschäftigt. Der Artikel beschreibt das Auditing vom Default Auditing, mit dem zum Beispiel das Starten und Stoppen der Datenbank dokumentiert wird, bis hin zum Fine Grained Auditing (FGA), das sehr zielgerichtet DML Operationen erfasst. Er geht auch auf die unterschiedlichen Speichermöglichkeiten für die Audit Daten ein, auf die sogenannten audit trails: Neben der Variante, den audit trail in unterschiedlichen Tabellen der Datenbank (SYS.AUD$, SYS.FGA_LOG$, DVSYS.AUDIT_TRAIL$) abzulegen, wird dabei auf Betriebssystemdateien in einem Oracle proprietären oder im XML Format zurückgegriffen sowie auf die SYSLOGs oder EVENT LOGs der Betriebssysteme. Schaut man sich das alles an, kann man sicherlich feststellen, dass das Auditing über viele Jahre ständig an neue Anforderungen angepasst und erweitert wurde. Aber es ist damit auch nach und nach unübersichtlicher geworden. Das ist vor allem deshalb problematisch, weil das Ziel des Auditing nicht das unbegerenzte Sammeln von Informationen ist, sondern die Auswertung dieser Informationen.   Hi there. I'm running a Tomcat 6.0.28 at port 8080 in a Debian Squeeze box. I'm a newbie in tomcat. I would like to change the location of manager and host-manager applications. That is, instead of going to: http://myserver:8080/manager/html I would like that to be: http://myserver:8080/somesubdirectory/manager/html Is this possible? If yes, how can I achieve this? I would really appreciate any help in this. I've been trying to change the context of /etc/tomcat6/Catalina/localhost/manager.xml from /manager to /somesubdirectory/manager with no success. Also I tried to create a symlink under /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/ROOT/somesubdirectory/manager with no success. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

• Custom 403 Error page not showing

  I want to restrict access to certain folders (includes, xml and logs for example) and so I've given them 700 permissions, and all files within them 600 permissions. Firstly, is this the right approach to restrict access? I have a .htaccess file in my root that handles rewriting and error documents. There are two pages in the root - 403.php and 404.php - for 403 and 404 errors. And I have these rules added to my .htaccess file: ErrorDocument 404 /404.php ErrorDocument 403 /403.php Now, the 404 page works just fine. The 403 page does not show when I try to access the 'includes' folder - I get the standard apache 403 error page instead, saying 'Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.' However, when I try going to the .htaccess file (in the web root) in my browser, I get my custom 403 error page. Why is this happening?

I have set up SSL on the Apache Webser...I can hit it with https:// localhost When I try to access my application at ...https://localhost/app I get a directory not found error. Catch is when I go regular http... I can hit it fine... http:// localhost/app What do I have to edit for this connection to work? I have uncommented the AJP connector in server.xml I have added my virtual host to httpd.conf What am I missing? Thanks in advance. Jared

  Is there a guide on the metrics required to obtain a certain Windows Experience Index? A Microsoft guy said in January 2009: On the matter of transparency, it is indeed our plan to disclose in great detail how the scores are calculated, what the tests attempt to measure, why, and how they map to realistic scenarios and usage patterns. Has that amount of transparency happened? Is there a technet article somewhere? If my score was limited by my Memory subscore of 5.9. A nieve person would suggest: Buy a faster RAM Which is wrong of course. From the Windows help: If your computer has a 64-bit central processing unit (CPU) and 4 gigabytes (GB) or less random access memory (RAM), then the Memory (RAM) subscore for your computer will have a maximum of 5.9. You can buy the fastest, overclocked, liquid-cooled, DDR5 RAM on the planet; you'll still have a maximum Memory subscore of 5.9. So in general the knee-jerk advice "buy better stuff" is not helpful. What i am looking for is attributes required to achieve a certain score, or move beyond a current limitation.   I know that IIS 7+ now uses XML config files instead of the metabase. I also know that if I edit a web.config file for a given site, IIS automagically detects the changes and implements any corresponding config changes. However, does this also apply to the server-level applicationHost.config settings file? (Its usually located in C:\windows\system32\inetsrv\config.) Specifically, is it safe to carefully edit this file instead of using IIS Manager or the appcmd command line utility? I couldn't find anything in the documentation that said it was okay or not okay to do this. I'm curious because I have to change the bindings for numerous sites from one IP to another. It would be much faster to simply do a global search and replace for the IP address in the config file instead of manually editing a few dozen sites in the GUI.

• Getting Internal Name of a Share Point List Fields

  Over the last 2 weeks i was developing a tool to migrate Lotus notes data base to Share point. The mapping between Lotus notes schema and share point list schema was done manually in an xml file for out tool. To map the columns we wanted internal names of each field. There are quite a few ways to achieve this, have explained few below. If you want internal names for one or 2 columns you can do so by navigating to the list setting and clicking on the column name. Once you are in column's details, you can check the query string of the page. The last item in the query string would be field's internal. Replace all "%5f" with '_' will give you the field internal name. In my case there were more than 80 columns. I used power shell to get the list of columns with details. Open windows Powershell and paste the following script after modifying the url and list name. • How to reset display settings in XFCE \ Ubuntu 12.04 and also flgrx drivers

  I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 and since I hate unity I installed the Xubuntu package and am using XFCE instead. Since I have a Radeon HD5770 I also installed the fglrx drivers. This all went fine (aside from the fact that the post-release update fglrx drivers have an error on installation and Ubuntu thinks they're not installed when they actually are. I configured my display settings (dual monitors, a 17" CRT on VGA and a 17" LCD on DVI) in the amdcccle program and everything was perfect. THEN, 2 days ago, I accidentally clicked on the "Display" settings in XFCE "settings" manager. After that, everything got screwed. Now, I normally run the CRT at 1152x854 and the LCD at 1280x1024 with the CRT as my primary monitor (with panel) and the LCD without panels etc just to display other windows when I want to drag them over there. The problem is now that if I set my CRT to 1152x864, it stays at 1280x1024 virtually and half the stuff falls off the screen. It also puts the LCD at 1280x1024 BUT then overlays the CRT's display ontop with different wallpaper in an L shape down the right-hand and bottom edges. In short, nothing makes sense and everything is FUBAR. I tried uninstalling fglrx through synaptic, and renaming xorg.conf and also the xfce XML file that has monitor settings but it still won't make sense. Unity on the other hand can currently set everything normally so the problem appears to be only with XFCE. In any case, I can't even get the fglrx drivers back, when I re-installed them, I can't run amdccle anymore as it says the driver isn't installed!! Can someone help me reset my XFCE settings so the monitors aren't screwed with some incorrect virtual desktop size and also so I can get fglrx drivers back and working? I really don't want to have to format and reinstall and go through all the hassle but it looks like I may have to :(

  I have: nginx (port 80) reverse-proxying to apache2 (port 88) reverse-proxying to a web app (port 5001). However, when the web app responds with a redirect like Location: /foo, apache2 rewrites this into Location: http://host.com:88/sub/foo, even though port 88 is publicly inaccessible. I'd like it to just redirect to the relative URL Location: /sub/foo. Any ideas? • What are the pros and cons about developing under MAC OS? [closed]

  Sometimes i get the chance to program under MAC OS, i knew about this OS since Apple shipped its computers with a PowerPC by Motorola ( since Panther, more or less ), these days they are all X86 and i see no particular advantages about adopting this platform, also i see only downsides for the main part, i do not want to cause flames, please reply if you have a good answer or you can contribute in some constructive way. I'm trying to write a list of the natively supported languages, or the languages that comes only under MAC OS with some particular technology, my list is this: Objective C with Cocoa/Carbon I'm not considering personal preferences here, if a person X likes to code under Xcode it's probably ok to have a MAC, if a person Y likes to code under Visual Studio it's probably ok to not having a MAC, my purpose is to clarify what MAC OS is good for. I also do not get why people glorify the MAC for historical reasons, I mean a language like Java just comes for MAC only in the 7th edition of its JDK, things like GCC are just a porting and many technologies are out of the question like C# ( I'm sorry, i do not consider MonoDevelop like a serious alternative ) , .Net, ASP, DirectX, and many others are just, again, porting or free software, like PHP, MySQL, Javascript, XML, CSS, OpenGL, etc etc. My question is: what is so special about being a programmer under MAC OS? There is something that I have not seen? I also noticed that a significant portion of MAC users end up using their MAC like a normal Windows PC with Parallels or something like that. I can afford to buy a MAC, show me why this machine is so unique.

Do I need to do some other step?

• GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 Maven Coordinates

  GlassFish Server 3.1.2.2 was released a few weeks ago. This micro release fixed a couple of important bugfixes - one in JAX-WS (JAX-WS-1059) and another one related to JK listener with Apache + mod_ajp_proxy (GLASSFISH-18446). This release is already integrated in NetBeans 7.2 and you can download separately from here. Maven coordinates for this build are now also described on the download page. • What is the rationale behind Apache Jena's *everything is an interface if possible* design philosophy?

  If you are familiar with the Java RDF and OWL engine Jena, then you have run across their philosophy that everything should be specified as an interface when possible. This means that a Resource, Statement, RDFNode, Property, and even the RDF Model, etc., are, contrary to what you might first think, Interfaces instead of concrete classes. This leads to the use of Factories quite often. Since you can't instantiate a Property or Model, you must have something else do it for you --the Factory design pattern. My question, then, is, what is the reasoning behind using this pattern as opposed to a traditional class hierarchy system? It is often perfectly viable to use either one. For example, if I want a memory backed Model instead of a database-backed Model I could just instantiate those classes, I don't need ask a Factory to give me one. As an aside, I'm in the process of writing a library for manipulating Pearltrees data, which is exported from their website in the form of an RDF/XML document. As I write this library, I have many options for defining the relationships present in the Peartrees data. What is nice about the Pearltrees data is that it has a very logical class system: A tree is made up of pearls, which can be either Page, Reference, Alias, or Root pearls. My question comes from trying to figure out if I should adopt the Jena philosophy in my library which uses Jena, or if I should disregard it, pick my own design philosophy, and stick with it.
