  • Tortoise SVN Error Validating Server Certificate

    I just updated the certificate on one of my sites due to the old one expiring. The new certificate verifies fine in Internet Explorer 9, Chrome, and Firefox 4 - but when trying to browse/check out the repository with TortoiseSVN, I get the following error: Error validating server certificate for https://xxx.xxx.com:443: Unknown certificate issuer. Fingerprint: 96:b3:fa:19:bd:4a:ec:c2:bc:19:33:b8:25:2a:0a:47:28:41:07:d0 Distinguished name: (c) 2009 Entrust, Inc., www.entrust.net/rpa is incorporated by reference, Entrust, Inc., US Do you want to proceed? Accept permanently | Accept once | Reject Clicking Accept permanently will work, but this is less than ideal. This problem seems to be related to TortoiseSVN and not the certificate, which checks out fine at http://sslinstallcheck.entrust.net/SIC/jsp/MainWebAddress.jsp and http://www.digicert.com/help/. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

  • Wireless driver not detected by Windows 8

    I've a problem in my wireless driver on windows 8. I bought a new X500L Asus laptop and installed windows 8 on it. However the driver CD I got with the laptop doesn't support my laptop. The CD says it's designed for Windows 8.1. I tired finding Wireless driver model and finding driver online and installing and that hasn't worked either, the wireless driver is shown at the device manager as not installed. I tired live booting the computer with a live CD of Linux and that also doesn't pick up my wireless driver. Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Thanks

  • How can Windows XP/7 users cleanly connect to Mac OS X Server 10.9.4 Mavericks with Active Directory integration?

    I’m a Linux/Unix systems admin who also manages a Macintosh server infrastructure & there is a lone Mac Mini in the mix running 10.9.4 that I would like Windows XP & Windows 7 users to connect to with little or no hassle. The problem? Windows users can’t seem to even get to the point of a password prompt yet connect. Mind you this server replaced a Mac OS X 10.6.8 server that had issues, but never had issues with Windows users connected. The gist of this post is: The tons of different messages out there about Mac OS X 10.9.4 Samba support are mind-numbingly confusing. Can anyone share some solid specifics here? I’ve read pieces like this one here that suggest turning off file sharing & then adding a share with AFP/SMB enabled would work. But the suggestion seems to apply to 10.8. And from what I know a lot has changed in Samba support in 10.9 let alone the iterations to 10.9.4. Then I found this great tutorial here that explains things step-by-step. Which seems like it should work, but the problem is the example given applies to a local user created on the Mac when I would like users in an Active Directory group—which the Mac is bound to—access the Mac Mini shares. There are also tons of great tips here on MacWindows.com but nothing seems solid to the issue I am facing. So from what I am reading these are my options: Local User Versus Active Directory: Setup a common local user on the Mac OS X 10.9.4 server to be used for Samba sharing since Active Directory won’t work. Is this really the case? Because loss of AD integration is a major pain. Do Extended File Attributes Get Retained from Windows Users: If this were to work, how do extended attributes come into play? Loss of metadata & related info is not an option. How Fragile is Any of this to Updates: How does any of this shake out with Mac OS X updates as well as Windows updates? Installing Official, Open Source Samba: Would upgrading the Samba install on the server to the official open source Samba via a package like SMBUp or via the Hombrew method described here help or make the issue worse? I fully understand there have historically been issues in mixed environments, but nowadays Windows users connecting to a Mac seem to have a truly hellish road ahead of them. Unless I am missing something?

  • Want to turn old Powerbook Mac into small form factor desktop

    I've got an old powerbook g4. Battery is totally dead, as is the superdrive. I've looked into selling but it's worth less than it would cost to ship it safely. So I'm considering cracking it open and and taking it's parts and creating some kind of small form factor desktop, probably for the living room. I don't need an optical drive, I really just would like Mac OSX, without purchasing a Mac Mini. Anyone got any tips?

    OS: Vista and Windows7 I have Microsoft Office Document Imaging installed. .tif and .tiff files association is set to " Microsoft Office Document Imaging" When I open a TIFF file, it opens in " Microsoft Office Document Imaging". Good so far. However, when I right-click on the TIFF file and invoke print, I see a "Print Pictures" dialog, ("How do you want to print your pictures?") I have some applications installed on my machine that print incoming TIFF files on the printer. They work fine on XP. However, on Vista and Windows7, I get this "Print pictures" prompt requiring an user intervention (i.e, click on Print button). How do I get rid of this "Print Pictures" prompt?

  • Debugging Samba/CUPS printer sharing with Windows

    I've got a HP Deskjet hooked up to a Slackware 12.2 box. I've got CUPS set up and can print a test page from the box just fine. I've also got Samba set up and have a couple file shares that work fine. I'm trying to share that HP Deskjet out via Samba, but I can't get it to show up in any Windows system. I see the server and its file shares in Windows networking, but when I open the Printers, no printer shows up. Running net view \\servername from the command line lists the file shares, but no printers. Here's the pertinent part of my smb.conf, if that helps: [global] workgroup = HOMENET security = share hosts allow = 192.168.1. 192.168.2. 127. load printers = yes printcap name = cups printing = cups log file = /var/log/samba.%m max log size = 50 [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/spool/samba browseable = no public = yes writable = no printable = yes guest only = yes Can anyone give me some pointers as to where to start looking for potential causes? Update: Running testparm shows no errors.   • Fonts in Google Chrome messed up

    I recently installed new fonts on my computer that my friend sent me so I can use them in Adobe Photoshop. When I downloaded the ".zip" folder containing the fonts I unzipped the folder, pressed Ctrl+A to highlight all of the font files and then I right clicked and clicked "Install". That is how I installed the fonts. Now the fonts in Google Chrome are messed up. When I go on websites such as Stackoverflow, Facebook, etc. the fonts are different and look really odd. Random parts of text are bolded or italized, etc. I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome and Windows 8 Pro. I took 3 screenshots to show you what I mean.

  • Full Disk Encryption for Mac (Not PGP)

    I purchased PGP Whole Disk Encryption for my Macbook Pro, and it's exactly what I need. After the Symantec acquisition, PGP no longer sells single licenses of the software so I can't purchase a second copy for my iMac. Since I can no longer buy PGP Whole Disk Encryption, can anyone suggest an alternative? I'm currently using Filevault, but I specifically want whole disk encryption. I'm using a quad-core i7 iMac running Snow Leopard and I'm also hoping to protect my Windows Bootcamp partition.

    Here is what I do: restart machine with Windows 8.1 determine "EFI System" parition with the Disk Management utility run command prompt as administrator type diskpart type select disk 0 then select partition 2 then assign open windows explorer windows+e refresh if the drive is not showing F5 try to open drive by double clicking What I expected to happen: I can at least look at my EFI partition files. What happened: after clicking continue after clicking "security tab" link, no security tab What do I need to do to access my EFI partition on Windows 8.1?

  • .NET Framework 4.0 installation is very slow

    On my Windows Vista, it takes a full 12 minutes to install the .NET Framework 4.0. a) Is this normal? b) If not, can something be done about it? The reason I'm concerned about the speed is because it slows down the testing of our product installer considerably. Testing an installer is time consuming already, but this new .NET Framework installer makes it almost undoable. Detail: I did the test on a clean Vista inside a VirtualBox virtual machine. This setup does not show any performance issues in other situations. I tried both dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe and dotNetFx40_Client_x86_x64.exe. They both take approximately the same time to install.

Now installing perl. # portmaster -g --force-config lang/perl5.14 # perl -v This is perl 5, version 14, subversion 2 (v5.14.2) built for amd64-freebsd-multi Now perl modules from the ports, # portmaster -g devel/p5-Moose #install Moose and its deps check with pkg_info and got zilion errors like: # pkg_info pkg_info: corrupted record (pkgdep line without argument), ignoring dpendecy check with portmaster - showing dependecies on perl5.12 #portmaster --check-depends Checking p5-Class-C3-0.24 ===>>> lang/perl5.12 is listed as a dependency ===>>> but there is no installed version ===>>> Delete this dependency data? y/n [n] when tried # perl-after-upgrade -f got: Fixed 0 packages (0 files moved, 0 files modified) In short: i got installed Moose into /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.14.2/ but all its dependencies into /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.12.4/ Yes, it is possible fix this with: # portmaster p5- what reinstall all installed p5-packages once again, now correctly for the 5.14 but it is terrible installing them twice... How to fix wrong dependency data on perl5.12 without the need install and reinstall them again What i'm doing wrong? Ps: know perlbrew and/or Local::lib - but for this case - want port versions.

  • What GPT partition type to use for protecting DRBD metadata?

    I'm planning to install a DRBD device on a (replicated) disk with two GPT partitions. DRBD requires some space for (preferentially "internal") metadata at the end of the underlying device. I'm hesitant to leave this space unpartitionend (or unformatted in a normal partition). I'd like to reserve an extra partition at the end of the underlying disk device for the metadata. (If I understand correctly, DRBD would not care about the partition or its type and could then use that space exclusively.) My question is: Which would be a suitable GPT partition type for such a metadata partition? It should not be a type interpreted while booting (such as EF00 EFI System). It should not be a type prone to be modified accidentialy by the booted OS (such as 8200 Linux swap, 8e00 Linux LVM, fd00 Linux raid). (The booted OS will be Ubuntu Linux 12.04.3.) It should not be a type indicating a normal filesystem (such as 0c01 or 8301), prone to be formatted correspondingly. It should not be a type requiring any special content in the partition (since the content is to be handled exclusively by DRBD). It should express the purpose of being reserved for something special (namely DRBD). (The types I listed are as provided by gdisk. I'm thinking about using some type unlikely to be used by the OS (maybe bf0a Solaris Reserved 4) or an invented(?) type such as fd01 (close to fd00 Linux raid…). Would something like this be suitable, too dangerous or even possible?)

  • Port forwarding to asp.net development server

In router's port forwarding I did the same thing as for the localhost but only changed port number so that it is the same as the one that is assigned to my application, but this doesn't work.   • Snow Leopard and NAS share

    Hi, I bought a BlackArmor 220 from Seagate. When I start Snow Leopard the NAS shows up with its full name under shares. The problem is that when I click the NAS only a folder BA_Backup shows up, all the other folders, I created, don't. When I click the NAS, it says I'm connected as "guest". I mean I can connect by "Go to server" and additionally add the folders to the user startup objects, so they show up when I start my Mac, but when the NAS already shows up, why can't I configure it?
