• PerformClick() for a radio button not working

  There is a usercontrol which has a radio button and that user control is called in a dialog box. I have written an onclick event for radio button and used performclick() to call it. But even though performclick() is being executed without any exception, it's not performing on click action. It's neither calling on click function nor reflecting a check in UI. But the on-click event works perfectly if I click it manually in the UI. I am using VS2010 and to test the case I created a helloworld project. I observed the app worked well when the Causesvalidation property of radiobutton is false, but doesn't when that validation property is true. How can I fix this? More: As I researched more I found out that Performclick doesn't work well when controls are called inside other controls and when this is done for many layers. It was same in my case, there were four layers to reach my radiobutton. So I replaced the prformclick function by calling onclick function directly and then making radiobutton.checked = true inside that function.

  I create a simple table in SqlServer .. key field integer, 4 strings and a Timestamp This Table is called Event .. which pluralizes to Events.(the checkbox was ticked) I run the Entity Builder in VS2010 just adding this table only. EntityModelXXX x = new EntityModelXXX(); // create an object 'e' here x.AddToEvents(e); produces an error : The EntitySet name 'EntityModelXXX.Events' could not be found. It doesn't seem to find the set .. why?

  Hi, on ScottGu's Blog is an Example how to use MVC2 Custom Validation with EF4: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/01/15/asp-net-mvc-2-model-validation.aspx So here the Problem: When the Designer in VS2010 creates the Objects for the DB, along to the example you have to add [MetadataType(typeof(Person_validation))] Annotation to that class. But when i change anything in the Designer all these Annotations are lost. Is it possible to keep self made changes to the edmx file, or is there any better way of applying System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations to the generated Entities? Thanks.

  I am trying to figure out how to get the DisplayAttribute in my MVC 2 ViewModel to work with the Html.LabelFor() helper. Neither public class TestModel { [Display(ResourceType = typeof(Localization.Labels))] public string Text { get; set; } } nor public class TestModel { [Display(Name = "test")] public string Text { get; set; } } seem to work. Localizing the Required Attribute works as expected: [Required(ErrorMessageResourceName = "Test", ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(Localization.Labels))] I am using VS2010 RC. Has anybody got that running?

  I'm trying to deploy ASP.NET MVC 2 project (VS2010) to Win Server 2008 R2 It works perfectly on dev machine. But strange error occurs at Server 2008 R2: When .ascx file has header that uses generic type: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MyProj.Web.Models.RangeViewModel>" %> Server reports Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MyProj.Web.Models.RangeViewModel>'. But when I declare somewhere in .cs file type like public class AA : System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<MyProj.Web.Models.RangeViewModel> { } and use it instead in <%@ Control header. Then it works as it should. Am I missing something?

• Excel get_Range missing when interop assembly is embedded in .NET 4.0

  I build an assembly referencing a COM interop DLL. If I embed the COM interop types by setting Embed Interop Types to True in the Reference's properties (VS2010), at run-time an error occurs "object does not contain a definition for get_Range". If COM interop types are not embedded then no error occurs. Does anyone know why a particular method, Worksheet.get_Range should be ommitted or how to work around this or have any other relevant insights? I should be grateful for any help. The interop dll contains a reference to Worksheet.get_Range(object, [object]). Using reflector on my calling assembly there is no mention of get_Range under Worksheet. The interop assembly I am embedding is generated from Excel9.olb. I am not using PIAs as the application targets multiple Excel versions.

  I'm starting a new project based on ASP.NET and Windows server. The application is planned to be pretty big and serve large amount of clients pulling and updating high freq. changing data. I have previously created projects with Linq-To-Sql or with Ado.Net. My plan for this project is to use VS2010 and the new EF4 framework. It would be great to hear other programmers options about development with Entity Framework Pros and cons from previous experience? Do you think EF4 is ready for production? Should i take the risk or just stick with plain old good ADO.NET?

• WatiN LogonDialogHandlers not working correctly in Windows 7

  I have recently updated to Windows 7, VS2010 and IE8. We have an automation suite running tests against IE using WatiN. These tests require the logon dialog handler to be used in order to log different AD Users into the IE Browser. This works perfectly when using Windows XP and IE8, but now using Windows 7 has resulted in the Windows Security dialog box no longer being recognised, the dialogue box is just being ignored. • Silverlight 4 application failing to build in Blend 4 Beta..

  Hi, I'm creating a simple silverlight application using Silverlight 4 and Expression Blend 4 Beta, but when I run the Application I get the following Error: C:\Users\WebDevelop1\Documents\Expression\Blend 4 Beta\Projects\SilverlightApplication1\SilverlightApplication1.sln.metaproj : error MSB4126: The specified solution configuration "Debug|HPD" is invalid. Please specify a valid solution configuration using the Configuration and Platform properties (e.g. MSBuild.exe Solution.sln /p:Configuration=Debug /p:Platform="Any CPU") or leave those properties blank to use the default solution configuration. Done building project "SilverlightApplication1.sln" -- FAILED. Build failed. I'm relatively new to silverlight and not really sure where to start. This has happened with every project I have created in Blend, but when I run it in VS2010 it runs perfect. Is this a known issue with the Beta release or am I possibly missing something?   I just installed VS2010 RC and launched the FullDuplex sample from NServiceBus 2.0.0.1145 and it ran fine.   Hello, I am using windows script host for some kind of installer application and I'm creating shortcuts in start menu with it. This problem came up when I switched to x64 environment (win7 ultimate x64+vs2010) I added a reference to Windows Script Host Object Model (from c:\windows\syswow64\wshom.ocx), it generated Interop.IWshRuntimeLibrary dll. I added 'using IWshRuntimeLibrary;' to my .cs files, but when I tried to create WshShell sh = new WshShellClass(); it throws an exception: Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.IWshRuntimeLibrary, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. I assume that I would need 64-bit version of that wshom.ocx for this to work, but I don't know what should I try. Or I'll just dump Windows Script stuff, but I need another way to create start menu shortcuts from .net application. Thanks

  I have recently moved my solution from my main dev machine using vs2010 pro sp1 to a new machine. The setup is supposed to be the same except its failing to build. Its giving errors like c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Microsoft.Common.targets(1360,9): warning MSB3258: The primary reference "C:\rep\hms\trunk\ikassystemv3\ikasDAL\bin\Debug\ikasDAL.dll" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the .NET Framework assembly "mscorlib, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" which has a higher version "4.0.0.0" than the version "2.0.0.0" in the current target framework. However all all the libraries in question are set to use the .net 2 framework and I need it this way or else it will break stuff that uses them. However for some reason it seems to think that somehow my .net 2 system libs are somehow referencing .net 4 stuff.   Hi, I'm trying to retrieve an object from my database using entity (framework 4) When I use the following code it gives an ArgumentException: An item with the same key has already been added. if (databaseContext.TryGetObjectByKey(entityKey, out result)) { return (result != null && result is TEntityObject) ? result as TEntityObject : null; } else { return null; } When I check the objectContext, I see the entities, but only if I enumerate the specific list of entities manually using VS2010, it works. What am I missing? Do I have to do something else before i can get the item from the database? I have lazy loading set to true. I searched google, but could not find any results, the same for the msdn library

• How to debug manifest errors?

  I am creating an application that depends on third-party library, which in turn depends on MSVCP90D.dll (it was compiled with debug symbols). While starting the application it fails to start and provides an error message: I have found such library in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\redist\Debug_NonRedist\amd64\Microsoft.VC90.DebugCRT and C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\redist\Debug_NonRedist\x86\Microsoft.VC90.DebugCRT. As you can see one of them is 64-bit, while the other is 32-bit. When I have placed 32-bit into the directory of the application the application silently crashes while loading (log from Visual Studio Output window is below). With the 32-bit one I get another error message: If I press Abort -- programs shuts down, Retry results in breaking into debug session for crt0msg.c file. This is system file and I have no idea how to debug it. If I press Ignore I get yet another error message: So the question is how to debug such errors? Please give me some links where I can read more about it or point me out what exactly I should do in such cases. I know this relates to manifest problems -- please give me a good resource where I can read about resources, since what I have found have confused me even more. • What version of the .NET framework ahould I target?

  I'm a desktop C# developer (that is not ASP) and am wondering about version targeting for small personal projects. These are, of course, trying to reach as wide an audience as possible, and so I've been targeting .NET 3.0 (which is the latest version on a Windows Vista system without any service packs) and 2.0 (which is simply the most compatible version compatible with VS2008). Unfortunately, this precludes me from learning any technologies such as LINQ introduced post 3.0, and, with an upcoming switch to VS2010, I'm wondering if I should target the new 4.0 platform at the expense of uses without the latest and greatest, or should I just stick to trying to reach as wide a userbase as possible?

  Hi, I installed the VS2010 and .NET 4.0, then I compiled an assembly and ran the gacutil using the exe available on %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\Bin\NETFX 4.0 Tools The output of the executable said the assembly was sucessfully installed on Global Assembly Cache. However, when I go to %WINDIR%\assembly folder I cannot find the assembly I installed using the .NET Framework 4.0 gacutil. I've seen some posts saying the .NET Framework 4.0 has a separated GAC, but what I haven't found was where it is located. May someone to help me to check where can I see the Global Assembly Cache of .NET Framework, as it used to work on previous version (%WINDIR%\assembly)?

To handle this, i have done this foreach(....) { .... .... try { _teamsTableAdapter.Insert(_teamid, _teamname); } catch (System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException e) { if (e.Number != 2627) MessageBox.Show(e.Message); } .... .... } But using try catch statement is costly, how to avoid this exception. I am working in VS2010 and INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE does not work.

  Any help is appreciated: I'm developing a C#.Net app in VS2010 that interacts with Excel. The app works correctly on my local machine. Uploading to a remote Windows 2003 server however, breaks the app. Originally, I received the following message Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80070005 After Googling the problem (which suggested a permissions problem) i tried this: Installing Excel 2007 Going into Component Services on the remote server and following the instructions here: http://blog.crowe.co.nz/archive/2006/03/02/589.aspx Now I get this message on the same operation: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC Google searches seem to be suggesting that this is a version match error. However, both the local machine and the remote server use Excel 2007. Any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks in advance. -Daniel

• Generate POCO classes in different project to the project with Entity Framework model

  I'm trying to use the Repository Pattern with EF4 using VS2010. To this end I am using POCO code generation by right clicking on the entity model designer and clicking Add code generation item. I then select the POCO template and get my classes. What I would like to be able to do is have my solution structured into separate projects for Entity (POCO) classes and another project for the entity model and repository code. This means that my MVC project could use the POCO classes for strongly typed views etc and not have to know about the repository or have to have a reference to it. To plug it all together I will have another separate project with interfaces and use IoC. Sounds good in my head I just don't know how to generate the classes into their own project! I can copy them and then change the namespaces on them but I wanted to avoid manual work whenever I change the schema in the db and want to update my model. Thanks

• WPF slow to start on x64 in .NET Framework 4.0

  I've noticed that if I build my WPF application for Any CPU/x64, it takes MUCH longer to start (on the order of about 20 seconds) or to load new controls than it does if started on x86 (in release & debug modes, inside or outside of VS). This occurs with even the simplest WPF apps. The problem is discussed in this MSDN thread, but no answer was provided there. This happens only with .NET 4.0 -- in 3.5 SP1, x64 was just as fast as x86. Interestingly, Microsoft seems to know about this problem since the default for a new WPF project in VS2010 is x86. Is this a real bug or am I just doing it wrong? EDIT: Possibly related to this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2788215/slow-databinding-setup-time-in-c-net-4-0. I'm using data binding heavily.

• What does double? mean in C# ?

  Hi, While reading the code of the NUnit project's assert class, I came across this particular construct - public static void AreEqual(double expected, double? actual, double delta) { AssertDoublesAreEqual(expected, (double)actual, delta ,null, null); } In this function the second input parameter is entered as "double?". The interesting thing is that this code compiles without issue in VS2010 (c# 4.0). Anyone know why this is NOT throwing an error ? Why is "double?" considered a valid keyword and is there any special significance to the "?".
