    I have the TestVisual class that is inherited by the Game class : class TestVisual < Game include MongoMapper::Document end class Game include MongoMapper::Document belongs_to :maestra key :incorrect, Integer key :correct, Integer key :time_to_complete, Integer key :maestra_id, ObjectId timestamps! end As you can see it belongs to Maestra. So I can do Maestra.first.games But I can not to Maestra.first.test_visuals Since I'm working specifically with TestVisuals, that is ideally what I would like to pull. Is this possible with Mongo. If it isn't or if it isn't necessary, is there any other better way to reach the TestVisual object from Maestra and still have it inherit Game ?

  • Could I ever want to access the address zero?

    The constant 0 is used as the null pointer in C and C++. But as in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2389251/pointer-to-a-specific-fixed-address there seems to be some possible use of assigning fixed addresses. Is there ever any conceivable need, in any system, for whatever low level task, for accessing the address 0? If there is, how is that solved with 0 being the null pointer and all? If not, what makes it certain that there is not such a need?

    I have a txt plain file that has a list of numbers. One number per line, like: 978-972-722-649-8 978-972-722-646-7 978-972-722-627-6 978-972-722-625-2 978-972-722-594-1 etc. This list is on a file called file.txt, was created and saved on TextEdit using Western (ISO Latin 1) encoding. Now I am trying to use Applescript to read this file and transform it on a list.     I have two servers - one Django, the other likely to be written in Python - and one is putting 'tasks' into a database and another is processing these tasks. They share a database, but I want the processor to react quickly to new tasks rather than polling periodically. Are there any straightforward ways for two Python servers to talk to one another, or does the task processor have to have web-hooks or something? It feels there ought to be a blessed way to do this...

  • Disposing a Bitmap through its Finalizer

    I have a complex program in which I have to first create, then use wrappers around bitmaps and send them across a lot of different classes. The problem in the end is deciding which classes should dispose the bitmaps. Most of the time the end classes don't know if they can indeed dispose the bitmap as the same bitmap can be used in several places. Also, I can't just copy the bitmaps because this is a kind of resource intensive algorithm and doing it would be dead slow. I looked up on reflector for Image/Bitmap's implementations and they seem to use the Dispose Pattern. So, even if I don't call Dispose(), the CLR will eventually call it some other time. Is it too bad if I just let the bitmaps be as they are, and let the finalizer take care of them?

  • RSpec: in-depth differences between before(:all) and before(:each)

    Ok, so I've ran into a very strange issue, directly connected with before blocks. I'm doing a integration testing via Watir and RSpec. For a simple test to check if user can perform a login I'm creating a 'user' record in the db by means of factory_girl. So I put the following code: before(:each) do @user = Factory(:user) end if "should perform a login" do # do stuff end In do stuff I call a browser and see how the user tries to login. Unfortunately, somehow he cannot do that — "Username isn't valid". After some investigation I discovered that if I put the code for creating user in before(:all) block, everything magically works. How's that? What's the difference between :all and :each in this context? Also, If I put the code for creating user actually in the test body, it still doesn't work (i.e. user somehow isn't added to the DB or something).

I am currently using rails 3.2.3 Basically I want to make basic routes like user/register on top of basic REST route for user.     How can I detect if a file is binary or a plain text? Basically my .NET app is processing batch files and extracting data however I don't want to process binary files. As a solution I'm thinking about analysing first X bytes of the file and if there are more unprintable characters than printable characters it should be binary. Is this the right way to do it? Is there nay better implementation for this task?

    Looking for the best way to determine if a URI exists in VB.NET without downloading the actual content. System.IO.FileExists/My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists can be used locally to determine if a file exists, is there an equivalent for the Web? Currently I am using a HttpWebRequest to check URI existance using the ResponseStream. This populates the stream if the target does exist and throws an exception if it doesn't. The function is being expanded to also check for PDF files (typically 5MB +), images, etc and it will be a waste of time/bandwidth to actually populate the content into a stream. In the case of "Success" (the target does exist) I do not wish to download the file or page, simply to end up with a Boolean which indicates the whether something exists at the end of this URI.

  • Can you use POST to run a query in Solr (/select)

    I have queries that I am running against out solr index that sometimes have very long query parameters, I get errors when i run these queries, which i assume are do to the limit of a GET query parameters. Here is the method I use to query (JSON), this is to show I am using the Http Extensions (the client i use is a thin wrapper for HttpClient) not an end to end solution. 90% of the queries run fine, it is just when the params are large i get the 500 error from solr. I have read somewhere you can use POSt's when doing the select command but have not found examples of how to do it.
