• Problem with HSQLDB & SequenceGenerator

  Hi, I have an entity which has an ID field: @Id @Column(name = "`U##ID_VOIE`") @GeneratedValue(generator = "VOIE_SEQ") private String id; The class has the sequence generator defined as well: @SequenceGenerator(name = "VOIE_SEQ", sequenceName = "VOIE_SEQ") and the Oracle schema has the requisite sequence present. Everything works okay. We also have tests, which uses an in-memory HSQLDB. Before running the tests, all the tables are created based on the Hibernate entity classes. However the table for this particular class is not being created. And error pops up, because ID is a String and the SequenceGenerator in HSQLDB returns an INT / LONG / Numeric value. The application is using a legacy Oracle database and ID_VOIE column must remain a String / Varchar. Any solutions?

  I use an API that expects a SQL string. I take a user input, escape it and pass it along to the API. The user input is quiet simple. It asks for column values. Like so: string name = userInput.Value; Then I construct a SQL query: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", name.replace("'", "''")); Is this safe enough? If it isn't, is there a simple library function that make column values safe: string sql = string.Format("SELECT * FROM SOME_TABLE WHERE Name = '{0}'", SqlSafeColumnValue(name)); The API uses SQLServer as the database. • EF problem with entity re-ordering and uniqueness constraint

  I am using Entity Framework and I've come to an interesting stumbling block. Let's say there is a db table "Item" with "sequence" column of type int (and others of course). Column "sequence" must be unique and it is used for (re)ordering of items. EF maps this table to "Item" class with "sequence" int property. Now let's say I want to swap position of two items by mutually exchanging each other's sequence number. Upon calling SaveChanges() EF throws an exception complaining about "sequence" uniqueness. It probably generates two UPDATEs and the first one probably fails. I assume that plain SQL solution to this issue is using a third UPDATE to introduce a unique sequence value in the process but I am stuck with EF. Any thoughts?

  i am not sure if this is the correct way of doing but i read that you not suppose to have a WCF Service Library reference in your web form project rather you add endpoints to your web.config, is that true? here is what i have done: 1) create a WCF service library project 2) create a simple service called "MyService.svc" WebForm: 1) Create a web project 2) create a WCF Service and in it i have this code <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Service="WCFJQuery.ContactBLL.Implementation.ContactUs" Factory="System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebScriptServiceHostFactory" %> 3) right click on the web proejct and "Add Reference" and add teh MyService.dll reference from WCF service library project. is this something how you suppose to do?

  Hello everyone, I'd like to add path to the openMPI library headers. So, after i found all openMPI headers are in /usr/lib/openmpi/include/* i added these two lines to my .emacs: (semantic-add-system-include "/usr/lib/openmpi/include" 'c-mode) (semantic-add-system-include "/usr/lib/openmpi/include" 'c++-mode) I think this is ok, but it's not working! • Import into Aperture 3 without moving files

  I like managing my own files, and this is definitely possible with Aperture 3. But there seems to be two ways to import into Aperture: either by dragging and dropping, or importing one folder at a time, manually, through the Aperture import window. BUT whenever I drag and drop the photos, it imports them into the Aperture library, making duplicates of everything. And if I add them manually through Aperture, I have to add each folder at a time, which is extremely tedious. Is there any solution?

• How do you handle browser cache with login/logout?

  To improve performances, I'd like to add a fairly long Cache-Control (up to 30 minutes) to each page since they do not change often. However, each page also displays the name of the user logged in (like this website). The problem is when the user logs in or logs out: the user name must change. How can I change the user name after each login/logout action while keeping a long Cache-Control? Here are the solutions I can think of: Ajax request (not cached) to retrieve and display the user name. If I have 2 requests (/user?registered and /user?new), they could be cached as well. But I am afraid this extra request would nullify my caching performance-wise Add a unique URL variable (?time=) to make the URL different, and cancel the cache. However, I would have to add this variable to all links on my webpage, not very convenient code-wise This problems becomes greater if I actually have more content that is not the same for registered users and new users.

I'm either open for troubleshooting help with this example, or if you have a better solution to the problem then please let me know what it is.

  Dear All, I have the following problem. I have a table in a db, with many columns. I can do different kind of select queries, to show, for example, for each record that satisfies a condition: all cells from columns with names ending in _t0 all cells from columns with names ending in _t1 ... To get the column lists to form the queries I use the information schema. Now, the problem: each query returns a record with a subset of the columns of the big table. This means that I can get a row of (all!) NULLs. How can I ask my query to reject such rows without having to type in explicitely the column names (i.e. by saying where col_1 is not null, col_2 is not null...)? Is it possible? Thanks in advance!!! I don't want to use primary key for the association (referencedColumnName). • Adding an Object to Vector loses Reference using Java?

  I have a Vector that holds a number of objects. My code uses a loop to add objects to the Vector depending on certain conditions. My question is, when I add the object to the Vector, is the original object reference added to the vector or does the Vector make a new instance of the object and adds that? For example, in the following code: private Vector numbersToCalculate; StringBuffer temp = new StringBuffer(); while(currentBuffer.length() > i) { //Some other code numbersToCalculate.add(temp); temp.setLength(0); //resets the temp StringBuffer } What I'm doing is adding the "temp" StringBuffer to the numbersToCalculate Vector. Should I be creating a new StringBuffer within the loop and adding that or will this code work? Thanks for the help! Eric

• Set binding for DataTemplate components in code

  Hi; sorry if I'm not clear, it's not really clear in my head too (especially after trying to find my way in other posts :p) What I'm willing to do is creating DataGrids in code, with zero to numerous columns containing a button, which will call one same function but with a "parameter" (different for each column). Here is what I got so far : DataGrid created in code DataTemplate defined in the xaml resources (with a button) DataGridTemplateColumn which uses the above DataTemplate Is it possible to bind the button's properties (in the DataTemplate), to the DataGridTemplateColumn properties (in my case, the column header would be ok), and how? Is there a way to get an access to the DataTemplate components (the button for example) in code, and modify their properties? Is it possible (and not hazardous) to create a DataTemplate in code? I declared mine in xaml because I found a post advising to do so instead of code. Thanks for your help.

• How do I compile Android Browser (or other android-supplied applications)

  I want to add support for Arabic (or other languages which are currently unsupported) to the applications supplied by android platform (e.g. Browser) without having root-access. To add Arabic support (at least displaying only) in a normal application (using developer SDK), I will need to: Add fonts Modify (reshape) the characters to be rendered For illustration, if I have string a aaa, I will need to change a aaa into a bcd because letter a at the beginning, middle, and end of a word need to be changed to b,c and d respectively) But now I want to compile android's Browser (and other apps). I am planning to get the source codes for these applications and their dependencies and bundle them as stand-alone applications which do not require root-access, and thus do not void the warranty. Other solutions which void the warranty can be obtained here. My Questions: Is the application's (e.g. Browser's) source code + 'developer SDK' enough to accomplish this? Do I need to get the source code + the development environment for the android platform? Any tips?

  After taking a look at this SO question and doing my own research, it appears that you cannot have a leading wildcard while using full text search. So in the most simple example, if I have a Table with 1 column like below: TABLE1 coin coinage undercoin select COLUMN1 from TABLE1 where COLUMN1 LIKE '%coin%' Would get me the results I want. How can I get the exact same results with FULL TEXT SEARCH enabled on the column? The following two queries return the exact same data, which is not exactly what I want. SELECT COLUMN1 FROM TABLE1 WHERE CONTAINS(COLUMN1, '"coin*"') SELECT COLUMN1 FROM TABLE1 WHERE CONTAINS(COLUMN1, '"*coin*"')

• C# Expression Tree Simple Arithmetic

  Hello, I've been trying to figure out how to achieve some simple maths using the Expression class. What I'm trying to do is this (1 + 10 * 15) When I try to do this via Expression.Add and Expression.Constant but the result I get is this ((1 + 10) * 15) Which is not right as it evaluates the 1 + 10 first instead of 10 * 15. Is there a way to combine Expression.Add/Multiply etc.. without it creating the brackets? I assume there is but I just can't find where or how! The test code I have is this var v1 = Expression.Constant(1, typeof(int)); var v2 = Expression.Constant(10, typeof(int)); var v3 = Expression.Constant(15, typeof(int)); var a1 = Expression.Add(v1, v2); var m2 = Expression.Multiply(a1, v3); Thanks for your time, Richard.

• configuring slime in emacs

  I am in the process of configuring slime for emacs. So far I have read about basic functionality for common lisp such as C-c C-q which invokes the command slime-close-parens-at-point which places the proper number of parens where your mouse is. Another command that seemed cool was invoked by C-c C-c and it would pass the code you are editing in a buffer to the REPL, and "compile" it. Why won't these commands work for me? Anyway, I have downloaded slime via M-x list-packages and do not seem to have this functionality (C-h w and then any of these commands tells me that these commands do note exist). So, I saw a bunch of other slime extensions such as slime-repl', 'slime-fuzzy' and 'hippie-expand-slime'. So I again usedM-x list-packages` and downloaded them. Still I did not have these commands.   Trying to insert a large audio file into an Oracle 10g database and keep getting this error: ORA-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested The byte array length of the audio file is 2702577.   Here is the scenario: I have a table that records the user_id, the module_id, and the date/time the module was viewed. eg. Table: Log ------------------------------ User_ID Module_ID Date ------------------------------ 1 red 2001-01-01 1 green 2001-01-02 1 blue 2001-01-03 2 green 2001-01-04 2 blue 2001-01-05 1 red 2001-01-06 1 blue 2001-01-07 3 blue 2001-01-08 3 green 2001-01-09 3 red 2001-01-10 3 green 2001-01-11 4 white 2001-01-12 I need to get a result set that has the user_id as the 1st column, and then a column for each module. The row data is then the user_id and the count of the number of times that user viewed each module. eg. --------------------------------- User_ID red green blue white --------------------------------- 1 2 1 2 0 2 0 1 1 0 3 1 2 1 0 4 0 0 0 1 I was initially thinking that I could do this with PIVOT, but no dice; the database is a converted SQL Server 2000 DB that is running in SQL Server 2005. I'm not able to change the compatibility level, so pivot is out. How can I accomplish this?

  I'm building a little app using Java and Swing in NetBeans. Using NetBeans design window, I created a JFrame with a JPanel inside. Now I want to dynamically add some jTextFields to the JPanel. I wrote something like that: Vector textFieldsVector = new Vector(); JTextField tf; int i = 0; while (i < 3) { tf = new JTextField(); textFieldVector.add(tf); myPanel.add(tf); //myPanel is the JPanel where I want to put the JTextFields i++; } myPanel.validate(); myPanel.repaint(); But nothing happens: when I run the app, the JFrame shows with the JPanel inside, but the JTextFields don't. I'm a total newbie in writing graphical Java apps, so I'm surely missing something very simple, but I can't see what.
