  • Getting identity from Ado.Net Update command

    - by rboarman
    My scenario is simple. I am trying to persist a DataSet and have the identity column filled in so I can add child records. Here's what I've got so far: using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connStr)) { SqlDataAdapter adapter = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from assets where 0 = 1", connection); adapter.MissingMappingAction = MissingMappingAction.Passthrough; adapter.MissingSchemaAction = MissingSchemaAction.AddWithKey; SqlCommandBuilder cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(adapter); var insertCmd = cb.GetInsertCommand(true); insertCmd.Connection = connection; connection.Open(); adapter.InsertCommand = insertCmd; adapter.InsertCommand.CommandText += "; set ? = SCOPE_IDENTITY()"; adapter.InsertCommand.UpdatedRowSource = UpdateRowSource.OutputParameters; var param = new SqlParameter("RowId", SqlDbType.Int); param.SourceColumn = "RowId"; param.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output; adapter.InsertCommand.Parameters.Add(param); SqlTransaction transaction = connection.BeginTransaction(); insertCmd.Transaction = transaction; try { assetsImported = adapter.Update(dataSet.Tables["Assets"]); transaction.Commit(); } catch (Exception ex) { transaction.Rollback(); // Log an error } connection.Close(); } The first thing that I noticed, besides the fact that the identity value is not making its way back into the DataSet, is that my change to add the scope_identity select statement to the insert command is not being executed. Looking at the query using Profiler, I do not see my addition to the insert command. Questions: 1) Why is my addition to the insert command not making its way to the sql being executed on the database? 2) Is there a simpler way to have my DataSet refreshed with the identity values of the inserted rows? 3) Should I use the OnRowUpdated callback to add my child records? My plan was to loop through the rows after the Update() call and add children as needed. Thank you in advance. Rick

  • ASP.NET AJAX Doesnt Work

    - by Petras
    I have a very simple AJAX example that doesn't work. It is from the Microsoft tutorials on AJAX. When I click on button "Button1" AJAX should execute but the whole page submits. Here is the code: <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="1111.aspx.cs" Inherits="_1111" %> <%@ Register Assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" Namespace="System.Web.UI" TagPrefix="asp" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <p> DropDownList AutoPostBack SelectedIndexChanged EventArgs Sort ...   • Force lowercase property names from Json() in ASP.NET MVC

    - by kouPhax
    Given the following class, public class Result { public bool Success { get; set; } public string Message { get; set; } } I am returning one of these in a Controller action like so, return Json(new Result() { Success = true, Message = "test"}) However my client side framework expects these properties to be lowercase success and message. Without actually having to have lowercase property names is that a way to acheive this thought the normal Json function call?

  • Predicate<T> through jQuery with ASP.NET MVC

    - by Stacey
    One of my co-workers wrote an ActionResult that accepts a Predicate as its input parameter. We need to call this method through jQuery - but obviously that doesn't work. Is there any way to pass a query through a method in jQuery that it will accept? public ActionResult List(Predicate<TModel> expression) { // ... } $('#item').load('/list', //... ??? )

  • Asp.net url rewriting and domain redirection

    - by GregM
    I have a domain "test.com" and I want this domain to redirect to "mydomain.com/test". I'm with 1and1 for my domain test.com and with discountAsp for mydomain.com. In the control panel of 1and1 you can set a redirection from a domain to another domain, so everything is fine. But when i'm on the page mydomain.com/test I want my url to be rewritten as test.com Is this possible to do that with IIS or in my asp.page (would prefer in my page) I'm using iis7 Thanks

  • .NET Thread.Abort again

    - by hoodoos
    Again I want to talk about safety of the Thread.Abort function. I was interested to have some way to abort operations which I can't control really and don't want actually, but I want to have my threads free as soon as possible to prevent thread thirsty of my application. So I wrote some test code to see if it's possible to use Thread.Abort and have the aborting thread clean up resources propertly. Here's code: int threadRunCount = 0; int threadAbortCount = 0; int threadFinallyCount = 0; int iterations = 0; while( true ) { Thread t = new Thread( () => { threadRunCount++; try { Thread.Sleep( Random.Next( 45, 55 ) ); } catch( ThreadAbortException ) { threadAbortCount++; } finally { threadFinallyCount++; } } ); t.Start(); Thread.Sleep( 45 ); t.Abort(); iterations++; } So, so far this code worked for about 5 mins, and threadRunCount was always equal to threadFinally and threadAbort was somewhat lower in number, because some threads completed with no abort or probably got aborted in finally. So the question is, do I miss something?

  • Fastest method for SQL Server inserts, updates, selects from C# ASP.Net 2.0+

    - by Ian
    Hi All, long time listener, first time caller. I use SPs and this isn't an SP vs code-behind "Build your SQL command" question. I'm looking for a high-throughput method for a backend app that handles many small transactions. I use SQLDataReader for most of the returns since forward only works in most cases for me. I've seen it done many ways, and used most of them myself. Methods that define and accept the stored procedure parameters as parameters themselves and build using cmd.Parameters.Add (with or without specifying the DB value type and/or length) Assembling your SP params and their values into an array or hashtable, then passing to a more abstract method that parses the collection and then runs cmd.Parameters.Add Classes that represent tables, initializing the class upon need, setting the public properties that represent the table fields, and calling methods like Save, Load, etc I'm sure there are others I've seen but can't think of at the moment as well. I'm open to all suggestions.

  • ASP.Net Cross Page Posting

    - by John
    Currently I have two pages: The first page contains an input form, and the 2nd page generates an excel document. The input form's button posts to this 2nd page. What I'd like to do is add a second button which also posts to the 2nd page; however, I'll need requests created from this new button to act differently, which brings me to my question: Is there a way I can tell, from the 2nd page, which button was pressed to submit the request? The main reason I'm asking is I'd like to re-use the 2nd page's logic in parsing the information from the first page if possible; I'd rather not have to copy it to a new page and have the new button post to that. Thanks!

  • asp.net ajax toolkit combobox doesn't work in hidden div

    - by sam
    I have a combobox inside a hidden div which I use css display = none to make it invisible, but when I make the div visible by setting display = block, the combobox just show the input and its button and ul list all have css as display = 'none', visibility ='hidden'. I can tell it is done by combobox inbuild javascript because I tried to use javascript to set the css manually with no luck. It is a bug of combobox. Urgent help needed. I spent a week to solve this, and our team put a lot trust on the toolkit. Please help me on this, all javascript gurus, thanks. Below is the code to reproduce the bug. When you run it, you can't see the dropdown: <%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="WebApplication1._Default" %> <%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" Namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" TagPrefix="asp" %> <asp:ToolkitScriptManager ID="ToolkitScriptManager1" runat="server"> </asp:ToolkitScriptManager> <div id="d" style="display:none"> <asp:ComboBox ID="ComboBox1" runat="server"> <asp:ListItem>a</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>d</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem>f</asp:ListItem> </asp:ComboBox> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text="Label"></asp:Label> </div> <div ID="Button1" runat="server" onclick="show();">click me</div> <script type="text/javascript"> function show() { var d = $get('d'); d.style.display = 'block'; } </script>

  • ASP.NET MVC Creating a impersonated user.

    - by Malcolm
    Hi, I have a MVC app where I have a User class and the user can also impersonate another user(Admin users only). So I have this code below that authenticates the request and instantiates my version of a User class. It then tries to get the impersonated user from the Session object but Session is not available in this method in the global.asax. Hope this makes sense. How else could I do this? protected void Application_OnAuthenticateRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { IMylesterService service = ObjectFactory.GetInstance(); if (Context.User != null) { if (Context.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated) { User user = service.GetUser(Context.User.Identity.Name); if (user == null) throw new ApplicationException("Context.user.Identity.name is not a recognized user"); User impersonatedUser = (User)this.Session["ImpersonatedUser"]; if (impersonatedUser == null) user.ImpersonatedUser = user; else user.ImpersonatedUser = impersonatedUser; System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal = Context.User = user; return; } } User guest = service.GetGuestUser(); guest.ImpersonatedUser = guest; System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal = Context.User = guest; }

  • Delete Duplicate records from large csv file C# .Net

    - by Sandhurst
    I have created a solution which read a large csv file currently 20-30 mb in size, I have tried to delete the duplicate rows based on certain column values that the user chooses at run time using the usual technique of finding duplicate rows but its so slow that it seems the program is not working at all. What other technique can be applied to remove duplicate records from a csv file Here's the code, definitely I am doing something wrong DataTable dtCSV = ReadCsv(file, columns); //columns is a list of string List column DataTable dt=RemoveDuplicateRecords(dtCSV, columns); private DataTable RemoveDuplicateRecords(DataTable dtCSV, List<string> columns) { DataView dv = dtCSV.DefaultView; string RowFilter=string.Empty; if(dt==null) dt = dv.ToTable().Clone(); DataRow row = dtCSV.Rows[0]; foreach (DataRow row in dtCSV.Rows) { try { RowFilter = string.Empty; foreach (string column in columns) { string col = column; RowFilter += "[" + col + "]" + "='" + row[col].ToString().Replace("'","''") + "' and "; } RowFilter = RowFilter.Substring(0, RowFilter.Length - 4); dv.RowFilter = RowFilter; DataRow dr = dt.NewRow(); bool result = RowExists(dt, RowFilter); if (!result) { dr.ItemArray = dv.ToTable().Rows[0].ItemArray; dt.Rows.Add(dr); } } catch (Exception ex) { } } return dt; }

  • Asp.Net MVC2 TekPub Starter Site methodology question

    - by Pino
    Ok I've just ran into this and I was only supposed to be checking my emails however I've ended up watching this (and not far off subscribing to TekPub). http://tekpub.com/production/starter Now these app is a great starting point, but it raises one issue for me and the development process I've been shown to follow (rightly or wrongly). There is no conversion from the LinqToSql object when passing data to the view. Are there any negitives to this? The main one I can see is with validation, does this cause issues when using MVC's built in validation as this is somthing we use extensivly. Because we are using the built in objects generated by LinqToSql how would one go about adding validation, like [Required(ErrorMessage="Name is Required")] public string Name {get;set;} Interested to understand the benifits of this methodology and any negitives that, should we take it on, experiance through the development process.

  • How to mask DLL in .NET ?

    - by ytrewq
    Let's say I have a DLL that provides math calculus functions. To use it, I include the using Colhq.Math.Basic; namespace. How could I use it by adding a statement like using Blala.Functions.Math; ? So how could I use everything (methods, enums, etc.) from a DLL by using a different namespace ? Is there a one-shot way to wrap or mask a DLL ?
