I think it makes things a lot easier since the Singleton only provides one instance, but I get two with this pattern. I was wondering if it would make sense to have it implement an interface so I can inject it into my domain layer.

    How do you distribute other files needed by your application that aren't in a jar file? For example, the application at http://www.javabeginner.com/java-swing/java-swing-shuffle-game . The download contains Shuffle.jar, Shuffle.bat, Score.dat, and an images folder with 3 images in it. I can see possibly putting the images directly in Shuffle.jar, but you wouldn't want to put Score.dat in the jar file because it changes. Is there somewhere you could identify this type of file in the jnlp?

    I see iframe/p3p trick is the most popular one around, but I personally don't like it because javascript + hidden fields + frame really make it look like a hack job. I've also come across a master-slave approach using web service to communicate (http://www.15seconds.com/issue/971108.htm) and it seems better because it's transparent to the user and it's robust against different browsers. Is there any better approaches, and what are the pros and cons of each?

  • even small file upload stops activity on apache/rails

    on my rails(2.3.5) app(currently 50-70rpm, maximum response time around 0.7s), uploading even 700k file(using paperclip plugin) locks up the server for web requests for everyone for 2 minutes! (other apps on same server work normally) does anyone have a clue why that might be happening? i am using some mysql transactions which lock the database also if that might be an issue i read http://www.therailsway.com/2009/4/23/uploading-files but it couldn't be locking server for 2 minutes for a small file, could it?!

The first time you hit the Show the div button, it works. Also, the Hide the div works. Then when I click to show the div again, it appears to the right of where it is supposed to be! Why is this?!?     I am trying to parse an xml file with a soap envelope from a web service using php. I would like to use SoapClient, but I get an error back that 'page must be viewed over secure channel SSL', which I think is an issue on their end, so I gave up on that. Currently I am using curl to get a result back. I've read quite a few other posts and have tried several different methods of getting the info and so far nothing has seemed to work.
