• Adding a virtual directory IIS 7.5 Windows 7 Ultimate x64

  Trying to get my IIS 7.5 playing nice with VS 2008 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I'm getting this error: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. This happens when accessing a virtual directory outside C:\inetpub\wwwroot. I'd like to be able to create virtual directories outside the root if I can. I've added the NETWORK SERVICE to the folder hosting the virtual directory, still no luck. This folder is on my C: drive, not a share. TIA

• Thunderbird message pane

  I have just switched from Outlook to Thunderbird and one feature that I am missing is when I would click a folder it would open a message in the message pane automatically. Now it is always blank. I have it set to remember the last one opened so if I switch back and forth it is there. But if I just click a folder the first time that I invoke it -- the message pane is blank. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change. This is Thunderbird 3.0 Thanks Mark

• MVVM Project and Item Templates

  Intro This is the first in a series of small articles about what is new in Silverlight 4 and Expression Blend 4. The series is build around a open source demo application SilverAmp which is available on http://SilverAmp.CodePlex.com.   MVVM Project and Item Templates Expression Blend has got a new project template to get started with a Model-View-ViewModel project  easily. The template provides you with a View and a ViewModel bound together. It also adds the ViewModel to the SampleData of your project. It is available for both Silverlight and Wpf. To get going, start a new project in Expression Blend and select Silverlight DataBound Application from the Silverlight project type. In this case I named the project DemoTest1. The solution now contains several folders: SampleData; which contains a data to show in Blend ViewModels; starts with one file, MainViewModel.cs Views; containing MainView.xaml with codebehind used for binding with the MainViewModel class. and your regular App.xaml and MainPage.xaml The MainViewModel class contains a sample property and a sample method. Both the property and the method are used in the MainView control. The MainView control is a regular UserControl and is placed in the MainPage. You can continue on building your applicaition by adding your own properties and methods to the ViewModel and adding controls to the View. Adding Views with ViewModels is very easy too. The guys at Microsoft where nice enough to add a new Item template too: a UserControl with ViewModel. If you add this new item to the root of your solution it will add the .xaml file to the views folder and a .cs file to the ViewModels folder. Conclusion The databound Application project type is a great to get your MVVM based project started. • In between multiple tabs, how to use Vimperator to open a tab after current one

  If you're a Firefox user you know that if you have 10 tabs open and say you're in the tab #5. If you open a new tab which will become #11 in order and search something, after you finish and close this #11 tab Firefox will direct you the the last active tab you were in which is #5. Using Vimperator You won't get the similar effect. In the same scenario, while you're in tab #5 you can go t and search for something which will lead to opening a tab at #11. Now you press d and where you are now ? #10 and you need to ctrl+p all the way back to #5. So in this case I am looking for one of these solutions. to be able to open a tab straight after the current tab (which closing it will capital D will put me back to my active tab) a way to close a tab and being brought back to the last active tab that I worked on. Will appreciate it if somebody got a solution for this. thanks

• A mechanism to include site title in every page, but not in <title> element

  Each site can have a name. For example, site x. Each page also can have a name (or a title) that should appear in <title> tag in the header. However, many websites out there use the combination site name - page name to provide the value for <title> tag. I find it a little far from being semantic. On the other hand, if you only include page title in <title> tag, search engines won't find your site by its name. For example, if your site's name is Thought Results and you don't include it in page titles, then if you search for Thought Results, you won't find your site in SERPs. Thus I'm searching for a mechanism to both include site title (not page title) in every page, and also only include page title in <title> tag to get more semantic results. Is there any way to achieve this?

• using svnadmin in a php script

  Howdie Scenario: Allow developers to submit new application packages to a market server. Developers run a bash script which contains a cURL call to market server (localhost/market/submit/$app-name). The submit script on the server creates a new folder in existing svn server with the name of the submitted app. Script on dev side waits for HTTP to issue a success message and then do a svn checkout in dev local machine. Problem: The submit script on the market server failed to create new svn directory through code: echo `svnadmin mkdir -m 'added new package $package' http://localhost/market/packages/$package`; this does not echo nothing and when I go on http://localhost/market/packages, the folder has not been added and the revision number has not been incremented. I've tried from a terminal in market server chown root:www-data /usr/bin/svnadmin but still no luck. Somebody has come acrosss similar problem? Any solutions? Thanks! • Focus follows mouse stops working when opening window from launcher and no click to focus

  This is 12.04 default desktop (unity). I set it to focus follows mouse, and changed the menus to be on the window. This worked for a while, then some unknown even, maybe an upgrade maybe some other setting change caused it to stop working. There are many ways for this behavior to start but one reliable one is to bring a window to the foreground/focus with the launcher. Now the focus is stuck on that window and not just the window but the regions within the window so the close, maximize, minimize and menus do not work. I have to use mouse middle and then mouse right and then focus follows mouse is restored for a bit. The exact details of the mouse action aren't clear, sometimes it seems like just mouse middle helps, sometimes just right some times a desperate sequence of clicks :-( I have tried switching to the gnome desktop and it seems to occur less there but it is not eliminated. I have tried switching mice to an old wired USB mouse. I have tried creating a new account and that has not worked. I have observed "split focus" where to scroll button scrolls one one window but the input goes to another. I go trapped recently where my keyboard input went to libre office calc, but I was selecting the search term in the chrome address window. The selection "grayed" but the keyboard input for the search went to libre. Regions in windows have very confused focus. I have to work hard to get focus on for example the close gliph (X) or the minimize gliph (_).

• Global vs. Local Monthly Searches in Adwords keyword tool

  I'm trying to learn how to use a keyword tool in Adwords. Here's what I entered: Country- Russia Language-Russian Desktop and laptop devices And the keyword was ???? ? ??????? (tours to Israel in Russian Cyrillic letters) . As a broad match type... Now... the results that I got were: Global monthly: 60,500 Local monthly: 40,500 If I got it right..."Global monthly" means in this context : worldwide average monthly searches for this search term in ANY language in any Google search site (google.ru, google.com.ua, google.com, google.fr etc.). It's all nice, BUT... Then I made an query for tours to Israel in English in the US...And I got: Global monthly: 60,500 Local monthly: 27,100 That doesn't make any sense to me though! How come the total sum (the global) is actually a smaller number than a combined sum of just TWO countries??? (27,100+40,500=67,60060,500) By "any language" they mean a translation of the term into ANY possible language???Or maybe by "language" Google means the language of searchers' operating system? or their browsers' language?

• Windows Server 2003 Hacked - Files Being Uploaded

  Blank directories are being created on my Windows Server 2003 virtual server with sub directories that are weird (for example: "88ÿ ÿ ÿÿþþ þþ13þ"). It looks like they are uploading bootlegged DVDs and pirated software. All of my bandwidth and file space is being eaten up. Could this be a shared permissions issue? Where should I look to further investigate this? My security permissions for the directory that is being hit are as followed: Administrators - ALL GRANTED IIS_WPG - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read Internet Guest - DENY SYSTEM - ALL GRANTED Users - Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read My Event Viewer is showing many Logon/Logoff with NO IP?

• Stuck on EULA screen when installing netflix-desktop

  I am trying to install netflix-desktop on my laptop running 13.10. I followed the instructions here: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ehoover/compolio sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install netflix-destop After a while, there is a EULA in my xterm that says I must agree to it to get the software. At the bottom of the screen there is ' I have hit , 'A', , typed 'OK' in that xterm but it never gets past that. The application is not available because if I try to launch netflix-desktop in another xterm, it doesn't know what I'm talking about and netflix isn't found on my system when I search search. Can anybody tell me what I'm supposed to do next or what I should have done so that I'm not in this situation next time? Thanks! Solution: I found out that I had to hit the down arrow several times till the lit up. Then I could hit to go to the next step. Then by using the arrow keys to highlight the proper respose(s), I was able to complete the installation. I haven't actually brought up Netflix yet, but it appears to be installing things as expected.

• How can I set up Eclipse to work with a Quickly program?

  I've installed PyDev in Eclipse and have configured my project so that the project lies under Workspace/Eclipse and the Quickly files lies under Workspace/Quickly. To connect the two I've linked the Quickly project by creating a new folder in Eclipse under the project and select the "advanced option" in the dialog to link a folder into the project. That way I don't need to have the Eclipse project files in my Quickly project. But there is two issues that arises for me: In Eclipse I have to select a Python interpreter and I have no idea what to do. I've googled around for an answer but I can't find if Quickly uses Python 3 or 2.7. Can someone help me make an informed choice? (I'm new to developing Python, that's why I can't tell the difference by the syntax - if there even is a difference) I can't press the "Run" button to launch the application. • Running rebaseall on Cygwin

  I tried building node.js on cygwin and that caused errors, so someone in #node.js on freenode told me to run rebaseall on cygwin to clean it up. So I tried that and I got the following message: $ rebaseall rebaseall: only ash or dash processes are allowed during rebasing Exit all Cygwin processes and stop all Cygwin services. Execute ash (or dash) from Start/Run... or a cmd or command window. Execute '/bin/rebaseall' from ash (or dash). So I closed cygwin, went to Start/Run and tried ash and dash but got the following alert: Windows cannot find 'ash'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search. So what am I supposed to do??

• How can I permanently remove default root hints from a Server 2008 DNS server?

  My network exists in private address space and I am unable to perform DNS lookups against DNS servers on the internet directly (blocked by firewall). There are other networks that exist in the same private address space as my network. I need to be able to perform DNS lookups for devices in these networks as well. There are 2 main internal DNS servers in this private address space, but not on my netowrk. I can perform DNS lookups against both of these servers for devices internal to our address space and names on the internet. I would like to permanently remove the root hints from our Server 2008 R2 DNS server and replace them with these 2 internal DNS servers. I have removed them from the dnsmgmt console, the C:\Windows\System32\DNS\cache.dns file, and from the RootDNSServers folder under the System folder in ADUC. Even so, they continue to repopulate into the root hints tab in the server properties for DNS after roughly an hour. Does anyone know how to permanently remove these entries?

NTFS is inconsistent. Run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot it TWICE! The usage of the /f parameter is very IMPORTANT! No modification was and will be made to NTFS by this software until it gets repaired. I don't have windows installed, how can I run chkdsk /f from ubuntu?

• How do I encrypt but share a number of folders?

  I want to achieve the following functionality. Is it possible? Boot up computer (possibly via WakeOnLan or WakeOnPlan). Either be automatically logged in, or log in via login screen, or log in remotely. I change this behavior occasionally, so full disk encryption wouldn't work for me because it requires a password on bootup (which would it would prevent the remote bootup options, and the automatic login option). I am only interested in encrypting data, not the entire harddrive. Once logged in either: a launcher/tray icon is available to launch encryption app (preferred) run encryption app from the dash Prompted to unlock encrypted folder(s) individually. Unlocked folders are available to: me, apps I am running (e.g. editors, SpiderOak) Ideally, folders that I share with bindfs can be locked/unlocked by other users too. A key point is that once I have unlocked an encrypted folder, I don't want to have to think about it again. I currently achieve this via TrueCrypt (except for the last part). Unfortunately TrueCrypt isn't well integrated with Ubuntu (licensing issues prevent Debian from including it in their repo, the interface isn't quite integrated with Unity, setting it as a startup app doesn't quite work, sharing encrypted folders isn't really part of its design). Is there an alternative to TrueCrypt that is better integrated with the Ubuntu GUI and would suit this workflow?

To resolve it I tried google read lots of but then find the following article MSIEXEC - The power user's install steps to solve the error: 1. Execute the following command from command prompt: msiexec /i program_name.msi /lv logfile.log where program_name.msi is the new version /lv is log Verbose output   2. open up the logfile.log in the editor 3. find the GUID in it I found it like the following Product Code from property table before transforms: '{GUID}' 4. Above mentioned article suggest  to search it in the registry but to find the uninstall command. Try if you like to see it in the registry. you need to search twice to to get there there you I tried the following command as it mentioned in the above mentioned article but it didn’t work for me. so I keep digging until I got Windows 7 and Windows Installer Error “Another installation is in progress” It mentioned the use of msizap.exe 5.   by combining the commands from both the articles I able to uninstall the service successfully execute the following command from the visual studio command prompt if you already have installed or get it from Microsoft website http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa370523%28VS.85%29.aspx   msizap.exe TWP {GUID} it did the trick and removed the installed service successfully

  I'm using IIS 7 on my own dedicated server. Let's say I have two web applications. One points to folder A, and one points to folder B. The first is used for production and the second is for staging. If I want to set up a scenario whereby I upload my aplication to staging, make sure everybody's happy, then swap the folders that each web application points at, thereby putting "staging" live and making the production environment the new staging environment, what's a good way to do this? I know Microsoft themselves use this methodology on their Azure platform and I've seen it used elsewhere too. How can I do it on my server with IIS7?

• SSDT gotcha – Moving a file erases code analysis suppressions

  I discovered a little wrinkle in SSDT today that is worth knowing about if you are managing your database schemas using SSDT. In short, if a file is moved to a different folder in the project then any code analysis suppressions that reference that file will disappear from the suppression file. This makes sense if you think about it because the paths stored in the suppression file are no longer valid, but you probably won’t be aware of it until it happens to you. If you don’t know what code analysis is or you don’t know what the suppression file is then you can probably stop reading now, otherwise read on for a simple short demo. Let’s create a new project and add a stored procedure to it called sp_dummy. Naming stored procedures with a sp_ prefix is generally frowned upon and hence SSDT static code analysis will look for occurrences of this and flag them. So, the next thing we need to do is turn on static code analysis in the project properties: A subsequent build causes a code analysis warning as we might expect: Let’s suppose we actually don’t mind stored procedures with sp_ prefixes, we can just right-click on the message to suppress and get rid of it: That causes a suppression file to get created in our project: Notice that the suppression file contains a relative path to the file that has had the suppression placed upon it. Now if we simply move the file within our project to a new folder notice that the suppression that we just created gets removed from the suppression file: As I alluded above this behaviour is intuitive because the path originally stored in the suppression file is no longer relevant but you’re probably not going to be aware of it until it happens to you and messages that you thought you had suppressed start appearing again. In simpler words, when a parallel operation is created for SQL Query, there are multiple threads for a single query. Each query deals with a different set of the data (or rows). Due to some reasons, one or more of the threads lag behind, creating the CXPACKET Wait Stat. Threads which came first have to wait for the slower thread to finish.
