• How do I do a fresh install of Google App Engine?

  I've been using GAE for months now, but very recently I've had difficulty getting the latest release (1.3.4) to work for me. I'd like to remove GAE and start from scratch and reinstall it. However, it appears that deleting the googleappenginelauncher.app is not enough to completely remove it, because when I install the launcher again I see that it remembers the applications it was running previously (so at a minimum, there are some config files out there that I'm not removing properly). I'm new to Macs, so if there are other things I need to do besides deleting the .app, please let me know. Thanks for your help!

Now I am looking for a tutorial, book or PDF that teaches these advanced concepts. I am not looking for a "what's a monad" tutorial aimed at beginners or online references explaining the type of replicateM. I want to learn how to think in monads and use them effectively, monadic "patterns" if you will.

  Hello everyone, I'm looking for a full stack framework (from persistency to view generation (CRUD)) for Java. I don't have experience with Rails style frameworks, like Grails, but I worked a lot with Hibernate, Struts, Spring ... I prefer a framework that let you naturally modify the business domain design with the less effort ( i.e. writing the sql querys to modify the tables and constrains, change the view pages, etc ... ). I was looking a bit about this topic, I saw Naked Objects for example but its development has stopped. So, I want to hear about your experience. Thanks in advance.

• Hibernate is performing unwanted SELECTs on call to saveOrUpdate

  Let's say I have a House entity which maps to many Person entities. I then load an existing House which has 20 occupants. beginTransaction(); House house = houseDao.find(1L); commitTransaction(); Later in the code, I can then add a new Person to the House: ... List<Person> people = house.getPeople(); people.add(new Person("Dilbert")); .... When I make the call: session.saveOrUpdate(house); Hibernate performs 21 queries: 1 to SELECT the House and 20 to SELECT each existing Person in the House. I'm sure it's a small issue on my part, however, what should I do so that I can add a new Person to the house without having such a heavy hit on the database in this situation? This is all done within the same session.

• In which layer should I join 2 entities together?

  I use Spring MVC and a regular JDBC. I've just learned that I should separate business process into layers which are presentation layer, controller layer, service layer, and repository/DAO layer. Now suppose that I have an Entity called Person that can have multiple Jobs. Job itself is another entity which have its own properties. From what I gathered, the repository layer only manages one entity. Now I have one entity that contains another entity. Where do I "join" them? The service layer? Suppose I want to get a person whose job isn't known yet (lazy loading). But the system might ask what the job of that particular person is later on. What is the role of each layer in this case? Please let me know if I need to add any detail into this question.

• Problem with number/type of arguments passed to an overloaded c++ constructor wrapped with swig.

  I am trying to wrap a c++ class (let's call it "Spam") written by someone else with swig to expose it to Python. After solving several problems, I am able to import the module in python, but when I try to create an object of such class I obtain the following error: foo = Spam.Spam('abc',3) Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "Spam.py", line 96, in __init__ this = _Spam.new_Spam(*args) NotImplementedError: Wrong number of arguments for overloaded function 'new_Spam'. • static constants return instance of specific class in Flex?

  So here's what I mean. Let's say I have a class ErrorMessages which holds all my error messages as static constants. So I could access them like ErrorMessages.PASSWORD_INVALID or ErrorMessage.PASSWORD_TOO_SHORT. I want to know if it is possible to have separate classes that hold subset of these constants and access them like ErrorMessages.PASSWORD.INVALID or ErrorMessages.PASSWORD.TOO_SHORT, etc. This way I can more structured static structure and makes it much easier to use autocomplete. I tried few different ways and couldn't figure out if this was possible..

  Let us say I have a table (everything is very much simplified): create table OriginalData ( bla char(10) not null ) And I would like to insert its data (set based!) into two tables which model inheritance create table Statements ( Id int IDENTITY NOT NULL, ProposalDateTime DATETIME null ) create table Items ( StatementFk INT not null, ItemName NVARCHAR(255) null, primary key (StatementFk) ) Statements is the parent table and Items is the child table. I have no problem doing this with one row which involves the use of IDENT_CURRENT but I have no idea how to do this set based (i.e. enter several rows into both tables). Thanks. • Cookie Value not available, why?

  I have tested this on my development computer, but now I have uploaded everything to the production server and I cant read out the value of the cookie.   We are investigating the Entity Framework to see if it will meet our particular needs. Here is the scenario I am interested in: I have a large table (let's call it VeryWideRecord) which has many columns, and it has a corresponding business object (it's also called VeryWideRecord). I would like to be able to query my database for a VeryWideRecord business object, but only have values for certain columns returned by the underlying SQL. Can I do this with the Entity Framework? I am uncertain as to whether this could be done with the Entity Framework's table splitting feature, because the application needs to be able (at runtime) to change the columns that are requested. The reason for this is that we are trying to minimize the amount of information that is going across the wire. I see how this could be done using NHibernate (example), but how can I do this with the Entity Framework?

  I have problems with saving derived type (TPT) with Entity Framework to database. Let's say I have base entity Animal and derived type Dog. I want to save Dog entity. I thought that I could do it like contex.AddToDogs(), but contex contain only base entity - Animal. So I can only save Animal object - contex.AddToAnimals(). I have also tried with contex.AddObject("Animals", dogInstance), but I get the following error: The member with identity 'NavigationProperty' does not exist in the metadata collection. But I have add EntityReference to the "NavigationProperty". So how to save derived type in EF?

I though about ArrayList that is serializable and we can put there everything but is not elegant way. I want to send different types of data because user can choose from a variety of options that server can do for it. Any advices?

  Hi Guys, I am trying to create a little php script that can make my life a bit easier. Basically, I am going to have 21 text fields on a page where I am going to input 20 different numbers. In the last field I will enter a number let's call it the TOTAL AMMOUNT. All I want the script to do is to point out which numbers from the 20 fields added up will come up to TOTAL AMMOUNT. Example: field1= 25.23 field2= 34.45 field3= 56.67 field4= 63.54 field5= 87.54 .... field20= 4.2 Total Ammount= 81.90 Output: field1+fields3=81.90 Some of the fields might have 0 as value because sometimes I only need to enter 5-15 fields and the maximum will be 20. If someone can help me out with the php code for this, will be greatly appreciated.

  Let's say we have def Foo(Bar=0,Song=0): print(Bar) print(Song) And I want to assign any one of the two parameters in the function with the variable sing and SongVal: Sing = Song SongVal = 2 So that it can be run like: Foo(Sing=SongVal) Where Sing would assign the Song parameter to the SongVal which is 2. The result should be printed like so: 0 2 So should I rewrite my function or is it possible to do it the way I want to? (With the code above you get an error saying Foo has no parameter Sing. Which I understand why, any way to overcome this without rewriting the function too much? Thanks in advance!

  Let's say I've got a window for which I want to simulate a mouse click at a specific x, y coordinate. I already have the hwnd but I'm not sure how to construct the lParam. I've used SendMessage in the past to click on buttons, etc., but I knew their hwnds. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also can't help but wonder if I'm going about this the right way. My end goal is clicking on a certain user on skype main window (for example). I used EnumChildWindows to find all the main window's children, but couldn't find the right one. So figured I would try to 'click' on it using coordinates.

  Hi Guys, Is possible in Solr 1.4 to specify which similarity class to use for every search within a single index? Let's say, I got 2 type of search (keyword and brand). For keyword search, I want to use the DefaultSimilarity class. But, for brand search, I want to use my CustomSimilarity class. I've been modifying the schema.xml to specify a single similarity class to use. But, I came to this requirement that I have to use 2 different similarity classes.   Let's say I have a table that has a varchar field. If I do an insert like this: INSERT MyTable SELECT N'the string goes here' Is there any fundamental difference between that and: INSERT MyTable SELECT 'the string goes here' My understanding was that you'd only have a problem if the string contained a Unicode character and the target column wasn't unicode. Other than that, SQL deals with it just fine and converts the string with the N'' into a varchar field (basically ignores the N). I was under the impression that N in front of strings was a good practice, but I'm unable to find any discussion of it that I'd consider definitive. Title may need improvement, feel free.
