• Updating .net 4.0 machine.config seems to have no effect

  I'm feeling stupid. I've just created my first ASP.net 4.0 site after working my way though over the years from 1.1 upwards. We have several settings at the machine.config level that I need to migrate to the new 4.0 machine.config. I though I had be adding the required connection strings to the connection string section of the following two files: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\machine.config C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\machine.config When I created a new website in IIS and assigned it to the ASP.net 4.0 Application pool I only get the default LocalSqlServer connection string. I tried editing the name of this in the two files above to indicate which file it was in, but there was no change. Are there machine.config files in other locations I should be looking at?

• Getting wireless N to work on Dell Vostro 3300?

  I have a Dell Vostro 3300, which has a Broadcom BCM4313 wireless. The point is that I cannot make it work in N mode. NetwotkManager applet says I'm on 54 Mbit/s. Of course, my wireless router is N capable. I've double checked. Anyone knows what to do?   During boot process my desktop shows both Monitors, but after log I only get one. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 When I go into Displays its still only shows on Monitor. If nothing is added before the word "Windows", perhaps it can be counted but if there is something else and the suffix does not match any popular suffix, it can still be counted.   I continue to work on a printer for F# quoted expressions, it doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd like to see what is possible. The active patterns in Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.Patterns and Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.DerivedPatterns used for decomposing quoted expressions will typically provide MemberInfo instances when appropriate, these can be used to obtain the name of a property, function, etc. and their "declaring" type, such as a module or static class. The problem is, I only know how to obtain the CompiledName from these instances but I'd like the F# name.   I've got a database where I want to store user information and user_meta information. The reason behind setting it up in this way was because the user_meta side may change over time and I would like to do this without disrupting the master user table. If possible, I would like some advice on how to best set up this meta data table.   I am trying to understand how can I make Azure Service Bus Topic to be scaleable to handle 10,000 requests/second from more than 50 different clients. This provides lot of good input to scale azure service bus like creating multiple message factories, sending and receiving asynchronously, doing batch send/receive. But all these input are from the publisher and subscriber client perspective. What if the node running the Topic can not handle the huge number of transactions? How do I monitor that? How do I have the Topic running on multiple nodes? Any input on that would be helpful. Also wondering if any one has done any capacity testing with Topic/Queue and I am eager to see those results... • Is it possible to deny access to SQL Server from specific programs?

  Currently one of our databases (SQL Server 2008) is accessed via a number of different mechanisms: .Net SqlClient Data Provider; SQL Server Management Studio; various .Net applications and 2007 Microsoft Office system (basically Excel). I see that in the sys.dm_exec_sessions DMV it is possible to see the program name of the program accessing the database for the current sessions. My question is: is it possible for one to deny access from a particular named program? First prize would be if this could be done for any named program, but we would gain a great deal of benefit from being able to deny access to this specific database from all Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel).

• Data validation between SQL replicated tables

  Hi All, I am trying to figure out a way to validate the data in my publisher and subscriber in SQL 2005 replication. I thought of using sp_publication_validation, but it needs db_owner permission and we are not allowed to have it in our company. So I did bit more reading and found out about two other SPs that I think work for me. First one is sp_article_validation, which I plan to run on the publisher. For each article that I call this SP, its gonna give the row count and a checksum. With that info, I intend to call sp_table_validation on the subscriber, passing the row count and checksum from the previous SP, there by validating both tables. What do you guys think? Is this a proven way to validate data in replication? There is very little documentation on these SPs.   The book of CLR via C# has this line at page 76. When you install the .NET Framework, tow copies of Microsoft's assembly files are actuall installed. One set is installed into the compiler/CLR directory, and another set is installed into GAC subdirectory I could find the GAC at C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\assembly, but I couldn't find the compiler/CLR thing. What's the physical directory name of compiler/CLR? I mean, where is it? Why there are two GAC in assembly directory? I find GAC_32 and GAC_MSIL.

  How can I get all items from a specific calendar (for a specific date). Lets say for instance that I have a calendar with a recurring item every Monday evening. When I request all items like this: CalendarItems = CalendarFolder.Items; CalendarItems.IncludeRecurrences = true; I only get 1 item... Is there an easy way to get all items (main item + derived items) from a calendar? In my specific situation it can be possible to set a date limit but it would be cool just to get all items (my recurring items are time limited themselves). • Sprite.js surface background

  I'm making a tile-based game using Sprite.js. It is not easy to redraw every tile each frame, so I tried to make a scrolling surface background. There is an example here http://batiste.dosimple.ch/sprite.js/tests/test_scrolling.html The example works, but it seems like ScrollingSurface.update is buggy or there is something I'm missing. What I tried to do is to draw 5x5 tiles and after 5 seconds draw another 5x5 tiles near the first ones. But it draws only the first ones. And surface.update() only updates the position of surface. Here is my code https://github.com/Sektoid/sprite.js/blob/master/tests/test_scrolling.html (You need also to set this.divider = 1.0 in scrolling.js to avoid drawing the same tiles 4 times.) There aren't any sprite.js-forums like with the other sprite- and game-engines have, so I'm asking here.
