  • Sandbox on a linux server for group members

    I am a member of a large group (academic department) using a central GNU/Linux server. I would like to be able to install web apps like instiki, run version control repositories, and serve content over the web. But the admins won't permit this due to security concerns. Is there a way for them to sandbox me, protecting their servers in case I am hacked? What is the standard solution for a problem like this?

  • How can you turn off alternate screen in OSX's Terminal.app?

    altscreen is evil. If you don't know what I'm talking about, see this page for visual demonstration. Problem is, there doesn't seem to be a way to stop it with Terminal.app (under OSX), when you're not using screen. Yes, you can edit terminfo definition, but that's rather blunt hammer. Plus that solution might break if Apple decides to update relevant term's definition in some patch. Is there some clean way to convince Terminal.app to block altscreen usage?

  • Need to open port in a router for two internal PC's

    I have two PC's behind a comon internet router and one service running in another network that needs to connect with both PC's through internet using a specific port. To avoid dynamic IP issues I have configured NO-IP accounts in both computers and opened the port in their respective Windows Firewalls. My problem is that when I open the port in the router it only allows me to assign it to one of the computers, but not to both of them. Is there any solution to this?

    I know Ghost and Clonezilla aren't able to build images of a system while the system is running(Without Rebooting). Haven't Checked on Acronis though, but i don't simpatize with private solutions. Question: Is there a software solution which is able to build a "Live" image? Would appreciate anwsers, since I'm one step away from building a Clonezilla test enviroment and this will just help on my decision. Thank you.

  • Which application may I use to open an old Microsoft access database?

    I have an old Microsoft access database (circa 2002 or so), which I need to extract data from. I don't have Microsoft Office available - the trial version I downloaded expired a week ago or so. I am looking for an open source solution or something similar that will allow me to open the database and extract the data - so I can throw away the database. BTW, can I use OpenOffice to access the data in the .mdb file? (I don't think the option is available IIRC)

  • how to use webdav with netbeans?

    i have a server i save a lot of files, i wonder how i use webdav with netbeans. eg. import a webdav folder edit the php files and save it the new changes apply immediately on the web server (cause the webdav folder is the same as the apache web root folder) i think this is a very smart solution so that you can change the website immediately, without having to download, change and upload. anyone that knows how to accomplish this? (feel free to propose other quick solutions for how to do quick edits)

  • PCIe network card deactivate DVI output (but NOT VGA output) on Shuttle SG41J1+

    It's all in the title :) Inserting a network card (or any other PCIe card, RAID controller, SAS, etc ) in the PCIe 16x slot of the Shuttle SG41J1 deactivate the DVI output. The VGA output still works fine. Shuttle support says that it's a chipset limitation (G41 + ICH7), but that doesn't make sense to me : the VGA and DVI share the same hardware but the D/A converter stage. Does anyone think that there may be some solution to this conundrum? Can a future BIOS update solve the problem?

I want to enable the following function -- when the sub-site administrator publishing a page, the administrator could select to publish to the sub-site only or publish to both root site and sub-site. Previously I used a google form to manage member registration, but now as the number of users becomes quite big I am switching to mysql. Currently I have around 500 members in the database, saved in a google spreadsheet. How can I do a bulk import from a google spreadsheet to a table in mysql?     I have one analog monitor connected through dvi adapter one digital monitor connected through dvi tv connected through hdmi I'm unable to run all 3 at the same time, when I try to extend desktop it asks me to disable one of the monitors so I can only have 2 at one time. I tried finding solution but according to some forums I should be able to achieve it since one is analog I should be able to run 3 outputs with hdmi that way. Does any one have any suggestions?     On windows server 2003 when one user connects to the server via RDP the default printer of the server for her profile does not change to the redirected printer of the session. This only happens with the one user all the other users default printers defaults to their session printer automatically.
