• Dead laptop screen rewired to external only right from boot-up?

  I have a Compaq CQ50-215CA laptop and after a year and 5 months, the screen is completely distorted now. I plan on removing the screen soon, but I realize that the BIOS screen, OS select and Vista boot sequence are all displayed on the laptop screen rather than the external display. Is there some way to get the laptop to display everything (From boot-up to shutdown) on an external display (VGA port)?

  I'm looking for a mechanism within notepad++ to replace runs of consecutive whitespace with a single space, like the "Compress whitespace" command in notepad2. Essentially, in regex form: s/\s+/ /g I know I can do it with the find-replace form, but I would prefer soemthing that I can bind to a keyboard sequence. EDIT Find and replace cannot be recorded as a macro in some versions of Notepad++. Update to the latest if you have trouble.

• Mysql innoDB corruption after server crash

  Yesterday my server died because an outage in the data center. Today it's back up, but having some problems with mysql. First of all my mysql server was not able to start. For this reason I deleted the files ib_logfile0 and ib_logfile1 in /var/lib/mysql folder (I still have the old failing files). After this my server was able to startup again. But now I see a lot of issues in the mysql log file. The possible reasons are: the master's binary log is corrupted (you can check this by running 'mysqlbinlog' on the binary log), the slave's relay log is corrupted (you can check this by running 'mysqlbinlog' on the relay log), a network problem, or a bug in the master's or slave's MySQL code. If you want to check the master's binary log or slave's relay log, you will be able to know their names by issuing 'SHOW SLAVE STATUS' on this slave. • Thinkpad speaker turns mute - Linux Codec issue?

  At some point a few days ago the speakers on my Lenovo Thinkpad T410 (Model number: 2537A11) suddenly stopped working randomly. This error happens every time I watch a video or listen to a music file. The sound just abruptly stops. At the moment, I can't produce a single sound no matter what I do. I am using Debian GNU/Linux on this laptop and there doesn't appear to be anything else wrong (the fan is working, no abnormal heat (staying around ~40°C), no other obvious errors or problems). Reason: The error occurs in my installed Debian Linux, an Ubuntu Live distribution and Windows XP No error-message appears in all of the OS. The sound just keeps running and i can't hear a thing. I tested different setups, including OSS, ALSA and the pulseaudio server on top If i use my new usb-headphones i can hear sound all the time without any sudden silences. So obviously, although hard to believe, my laptop speakers are not okay (never heard of similar cases). I'll award the bounty to anyone who can point me to good tutorials or the procedure how to exchange my T410 speakers (i still have warranty. The laptop was bought in Germany, but now i am in Denmark). Or to someone who can explain me the output from hda-analyzer (big log above).

  How do I change the colors in a Cygwin mintty session which is already open? Is it possible? Use case: Under environment-imposed time constraints, multiple terminal windows have been opened without forethought. In order to reduce the risk of typing the commands for system A into the terminal for system B, it would be nice if they were different colors. Is there some escape sequence or whatnot that can change the color scheme for a running session?

  Is there a way to watch Linux boot as though it was a program compiled with GCC on a Linux environment using the -g switch so, say, I can step through the entire boot sequence from GRUB onwards, choosing to step through at C source level or assembly when necessary/desirable, by using GDB or a GDB-like tool? I suspect it would require a virtual machine at least, to watch the boot on a host environment. Any elaboration on this topic of observing a boot would be appreciated!

  I would like to customize the name of the tab in Tilda (I guess that it doesn't change anything from the Gnome-terminal's behavior), but I can't find the exact sequence ... so far, I figured out that Bash does it when displaying my PS1 prompt: echo $PS1 \[\e]0;HELLO\a\]\[\033[01;32m\]\u\[\033[00m\]@\[\033[1;35m\]\h\[\033[00m\]:\[\033[01;34m\]\[\033[00m\] I guess that \[\e]0;HELLO\a\] is responsible for the title to be set to 'HELLO', but when I start echo -ne "\[\e]0;HELLO WORLD\a\]" only writes '[]' what's wrong with my command ?

  Is there a way to forcibly terminate an SSH session in PuTTY, short of closing the PuTTY window? For example, in OpenSSH, I can use the ~. escape sequence to kill the connection. This is useful when the SSH session stops responding for some reason, but I don't want to lose any of my current session-specific settings. In that case, I'd like to kill the session and then use Restart Session to reconnect.

  I have a few applications that are installed using InstallShield -- during the installation one or two parts of the application are installed with msi's. I've tried recording an iss file to instruct the installation process, but these installations always seem to freeze up. I've also tried installing in a sequence, first installing the msi's, but this doesn't prevent the main installation from trying to install these. Any tips/suggestions/ideas? Thanks!

Please explain to me how this key combo works in IE7 because I can't figure it out.

• SWF -> Compatible YouTube format and retain ActionScript

  I have an swf (just a sequence of slides with audio, timing controlled by actionscript) that I want to convert to a compatible YouTube format (flv, mp4, etc.). I've tried using the Moyea SWF4Tube software but when it was converted all of the timing was gone. • Dynamic ARP Entries turning into Static ARP entries

  I recently acquired a client that has a strange ARP caching issue on one of thier servers. I have a server that will eventually start turning it's dynamic ARP entries into static ARP entries. This causes problems because when the machine that has a static ARP entries on this server receives a new IP via DHCP, then the server is not able to communicate with the clients. Clearing the ARP cache resolves the issue and the server is fine for about a week and then it starts slowly turning ARP entries into static ARP entries. I haven't narrowed it down to when or how many it starts to do, but slowly you start seeing 1 static ARP and then 5 and then 10. The server in question is a Windows Server 2003 SP2. It is a DC, DHCP, and DNS server. I've checked the DHCP scope options and there's nothing in there that would indicate anything to do with static ARP entries. The only thing different between this DNS server and our other DNS server is that the 'Dynamically Update DNA A and PTR records for DHCP clients that do not request updates' is checked on the problematic server. I've done a bit of research about this and it seems that this may happen if any PXE type services are running, from what I can tell, there is nothing running a PXE server. I'm a bit lost as I have never seen dynamic ARP entries start to turn into static ARP entries. Right now my solution is a schedule task that runs every 24 hours to clear the ARP cache (arp -d *). I would like to not rely on this schedule task. Has anybody seen this before or have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

  I have tried using Google DNS and the one provided with DHCP. At some point my PC (Windows 7) stops resolving domain names, but DNS server is perfectly pingable. What can be the reason? Thanks! Edit: It is really weird. It can stop and start working in few seconds. The problem is that DNA requests are timing out, and the problem is that the DNS server is pingable at the same time. • The Wifi is working fine but no internet connection in Windows 8 [migrated]

  I'm currently having a Problem with my msi GT70 laptop. my laptop is running windows 8 and yesterday it requested a Restart to Update. after the Restart and the update I tried to surf the net through google chrome, the WiFi connection is perfect but the page I tried to access is not loading at all, after a while it shows failure to load page. I disabled and reenabled the WiFi chip through the device manager but still no internet connection. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, still no internet. I updated the Driver of the wifi, still no internet, I even went to Wifi configuration and tried to change the DNS and reset it back to automatically, still no Luck.. I'm really lost I don't know what to do, I don't want to go deep and play with Laptop DNA "aka: registry file" and screw things up. I really appreciate any help in this matter. thanks in advance. Note: I tried to access many pages but no luck. I even tried Firefox, Opera, even ie still no luck. The internet is working fine on my tablet and cellphone, except for the Laptop.

Curiosity on the other hand is equipped with a radioisotope power system that generates electricity from the heat emitted by plutonium’s radioactive decay. The plutonium weighs around 10 pounds and can generate power required for operating the rover close to 23 weeks. The best part of the new power system is, Curiosity can roam around in darkness, light and all year around. 3. Rocket powered backpack for a science fiction style landing The Curiosity is so heavy that NASA could not use parachute and balloons to air-drop the rover on the surface of Mars like it’s previous missions. They are trying out a new science fiction style air-dropping mechanism that is similar to sky crane heavy-lift helicopter. The landing of the rover begins first with entry into the Mars atmosphere protected by a heat shield. At about 6 miles to the surface, the heat shield is jettisoned and a parachute is deployed to glide the rover smoothly. When the rover touches 3 miles above the surface, the parachute is jettisoned and the eight motors rocket backpack is used for a smooth and impact free landing as shown in the image. Equipped with Star Wars style laser gun Hollywood movie directors and novelist always imagined aliens coming to earth with spaceships full of laser guns and blasting the objects which comes on their way. With Curiosity the equations are going to change. It has a powerful laser gun equipped in one of it’s arms to beam laser on rocks to vaporize them. This is not part of any assault mission Curiosity is expected to carry out, the laser gun is will be used to carry out experiments to detect life and understand nature. 5. Most sophisticated laboratory powered by 10 instruments Around 10 state of art instruments are part of Curiosity rover and the these 10 instruments form a most advanced rover based lab ever built by NASA. There are instruments to cut through rocks to examine them and other instruments will search for organic compounds. Mounted cameras can study targets from a distance, arm mounted instruments can study the targets they touch. Microscopic lens attached to the arm can see and magnify tiny objects as tiny as 12.5 micro meters. 6. Rover Carrying 1.24 million names etched on silicon Early June 2009 NASA launched a campaign called “Send Your Name to Mars” and around 1.24 million people registered their names through NASA’s website. All those 1.24 million names are etched on Silicon chips mounted onto Curiosity’s deck. If you had registered your name in the campaign may be your name is going to reach Mars soon.
