• What do I change in my domain name's DNS if I get a new Internet provider?

  My company is about to get a new physical connection to the Internet, replacing the old provider. They, of course, are giving us the allotted IPs, Gateway, and DNS servers. My domain name is registered with a provider like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc. When this new connection goes in, what do I change in the domain name providers DNS? I know to change what Host point to. That is my new IP address. But what about the name servers? I am confused because the company gave me IP addresses for the name servers, but at the provider is has a DNS server name like ns1.somedomain.com. Also, How do I update the Internet's DNS servers? • Eee PC brighness contol with 12.04 release

  is there a solution to the low screen brightness issue with the Eee PC and release 12.04? When I use the brightness control, the screen goes through three adjustment cycles of dark to semi bright, but never gets to bright. As you index the control up, brightness increases, then suddenly cuts back to dark. use the brightness button to further increase the brightness and the same cycle happens. As though there are three distinct brightness events, each one setting back to low level. Under no circumstances other than initial boot up can you get to a bright screen. I just finished installing 12.04 on two Acer (Gateway netbooks) with no brightness issue. Just on the Eee PC

  I use the following script to make my netbook a full-fledged wireless accesspoint. • How to safely collect bank account from website?

  I want to collect bank account information from my customers on my website. I'd like to do that trough a form, then I will download it to a PC, print it, and then delete it from the website. Or eventually, send it somewhere external right after the user submitted the form so it never gets stored on the website. The goal is to recieve the payment information without having to ask the customer to print, fill manually, and send it over fax. And accomplish this without having to use an external payment gateway. • Do Apple and Google ask for a share if custom payment is done in a free app?

  I have a multiplatform game (web/iOS/Android) in the making. In the free version the core game is still fully playable but people who choose to pay will get more social features (and no ads, of course). I was thinking that rather than having a free and a paid version for all the platforms I may release the apps just for free and if the users want more, they have to register and pay a one-time fee (through a payment gateway or PayPal). The extra content would then be available in all the clients they have access to. Theoretically, this means a better value for the players and less maintenance and headache for me (obviously I have to handle all the payment troubles myself). Does it fit into the business model of Apple/Google? Or will they still claim their share of the registration fee?

• Installed UBUNTU12.04 in Legacy, when changed to UEFI just runs the Terminal, not GUI

  Well, I installed Ubuntu 12.04 in a Gateway NE 522 with Windows 8. First, I had to install it in Legacy mode, because in UEFI it would not run the bootable USB. In the Legacy mode it runs perfect. Once done that with help of the "Boot-Repair" I changed it to the UEFI and disabled the secure boot mode. GRUB runs fine but when I run ubuntu I get the following message: microcode: failed to load file amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam16h.bin kvm: disabled by bios kvm: disabled by bios kvm: disabled by bios and then I just get access to the terminal. From there, I have already tried with reinstalling unity and gmd. When I try to install amd64-microcode the same error ocurrs ( microcode: failed to load file amd-ucode/microcode_amd_fam16h.bin ) by the "updating the microcode on all online processors..." phase of the installation. Can somebody tell me how can I recover the graphical interphase of ubuntu from the terminal? Thanks a lot

• why would Remmina stop working?

  Until sometime last night, I had remmina working fine. I could run RDP through an SSH tunnel and all was well. Then it stopped working. I can get as far as the password dialog for my work machine, but then it just says "Cannot connect to RDP server localhost". I can't even find any logs that look interesting. I've re-installed remmina, cleared my .remmina directory, restarted my machine, and even restarted my gateway. Just to make it really weird, my laptop (which has the same setup -- latest Ubuntu and Remmina) can make the connection just fine. It is even going through the same router, albeit wirelessly. Any thoughts?

• Steps to diagnose SNU5600 disconnection problem

  I have a Philips SNU5600 WiFi dongle plugged into two machines (ie I have two SNU5600 dongles, one in each machine). One machine is running 10.10 and the other is running Linux Mint. The dongles work absolutely fine, except if I do a lot of file transfers to a NAS attached to the wireless router. After a while the connection to the router will go. To get the connection back I either need to run sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart or I need to unplug and plug in again the dongle. Otherwise the dongle works fine (web browsing, streaming, etc). Output of lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0471:1236 Philips (or NXP) SNU5600 802.11bg Output of lsusb -v at http://pastebin.com/dXYKkF01 What steps should I take next to resolve this? Is it a known problem? Could it be the router? It is a 3Com "OfficeConnect Wireless 11g Cable/DSL Gateway Version 1.02.15".

• Finally found a replacement for my.live.com&hellip;

  As I had alluded to before, the transition of http://my.live.com/ to http://my.msn.com/ caused me serious grief. I've been an RSS addict for many, many years and I found the my.live.com UI to be the ultimate RSS reader and gateway to the web. It had been my home page for a long time.  My.msn has a LONG way to go before it matches the elegance and performance of my.live. The site I ended up going with is http://www.netvibes.com/ .   It’s the closest thing I could find that could do four column tiles with a reasonable amount of information density .  I’d still prefer a lot less “chrome” and better use of space, but it’s as close as I’m going to get… One feature I really do like about netvibes, is the pagination feature.  The built in feed reader is also quite nice… All-in-all, I’d recommend netvibes…

• Enabling DHCP without being connected

  I was installing Ubuntu server the other night and I was not able to hook up to the network while installing because I don't have a monitor for my desktop machines. I had to go into the living room and connect to the HDTV instead. This leaves me without network connectivity. When installing it asks how I would like to set up the network. I would like to enable DHCP but it tries to detect a gateway when I do this and obviously it doesn't find anything. It won't let me move on without setting up an IP manually at that point. Isn't there a way I can enable DHCP for the next time it boots up instead? Why the need for it right then and there?

• Why my site is not ranking for particular keyword

  My site is only 3 days to be 6 months old. This website is unique, that is there is no competitor to this type site in India, providing comparison of payment gateways in India, besides the payment gateways companies itself. I've optimized it for key word : "payment gateway" I've changed the url's twice, latest being 3 months back, in which case Google Webmaster gave plently of 404's. I corrected the useful 404's and left meaningless ones as it is. What is the reason it's not ranking well for payment gateways? Even site with single page about "Payment gateways" seem to be ranking better than this. Is it does to: 1) Lot of outbound links to in-context companies and information 2) 404's as reported in Google Webmaster My another site is successfully getting 1500 unique visitors daily and is up in Google ranking. I don't know why it is not!

• Help with Kodak esp 3250 printer driver on Lubuntu 12.1 SOLVED!

  First my system: pentium 4 -don't remember the speed-, 1g ram, dual boot to separate physical drives, Fdos and Lubuntu 12.1 second my lan: I have four computers operating for the same printer. 1. Intel quad core i5, 4g ram, running Windoze 7 64 bit, printer connected and shared from here. Kodak ESP 3250 2. Gateway 17" laptop running Windoze 7 32bit 3. Asus tablet (small laptop) running Lumbutu 12.1 4. My dual boot system running Fdos and Lubuntu 12.1 The problem: I downloaded c2esp_25c-1_i386.deb, tried to install it using DEBI Package Installer, it loads the files, looks for cups driver and ends with an error: "Dependancy is not satisfiable: libcupsdriver1 (=1.4.0)" What do I do now? Is there some place that I can get the correct cups driver? further information: The Asus tablet was running Ubuntu 12.1 (very slowly and with a few crashes) and could print from the lan printer with no problems. Is there something in Ubuntu that can be loaded into Lubuntu? noobee user hoping for answers, Paul

• What's the correct MAAS DHCP configuration?

  I've set up a MAAS controller by following this documentation: http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs1.4/cluster-configuration.html However, when I got to the DHCP configurations I was a little puzzled. The controller I created is at 172.16.142.61. It looks like that's the address for the "IP" text field. Going down the rest of the list I'm unsure of though. Should I just put in the subnet/broadcast/router (is that the gateway?) that the MAAS server resides in or am I suppost to just list the static address of the MAAS server and then define my own "virtual" subnet in the fields below?

• Connman not connecting to internet

  I wanted to try connman as I heard it will be replacing network manager. I kinda liked its looks and feel but the problem is I donot get connected to internet. I am using ADSL and it connects to my adsl router but doesnot ping google or any other sites. I tried to change the default gateway as well as use static ips but to no avail. It displays I am wired but doesnot open any sites or ping to any external sites except for 198.168.1.1 which is my router ip. Can anyone help ?   A Resource-STS (others call it RP-STS or federation gateway) is a necessity for non-trivial federated identity scenarios. ADFS v2 does an excellent job in fulfilling that role – but (as of now) you have to run ADFS on-premise. The Azure Access Control Service is a Resource-STS in the cloud (with all the usual scalability/availability) promises. Unfortunately a lot of (the more interesting) features in ACS v1 had to be cut due to constrained time/resources. The good news is that ACS v2 is now in CTP and brings back a lot of the missing features (like WS* support) and adds some really sweet new ones (out of the box federation with Google, Facebook, LiveID – and OpenId in general). On a related note – ACS v2 works out of the box with StarterSTS – simply choose the ADFS v2 option and point the management portal to the StarterSTS WS-Federation metadata endpoint. Have fun ;)

  I have an eth0 and eth1, eth0 has dynamic ip and on eth1 i setup static ip: auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 10.10.0.1 netmask 255.0.0.0 gateway 10.10.0.1 ` and then i setup the "isc-dhcp-server" with the fowling command: INTERFACES="eth1" Finally... I went to this one "dhcpd.conf", with the fowling comand: default-lease-time 650; max-lease-time 79520; option subnet-mask 255.0.0.0; option broadcast-address 10.10.0.255; option routers 10.10.0.2; subnet 10.10.0.0 netmask 255.0.0.0 { range 10.10.0.10 10.10.0.250; } When I try to "sudo /etc/init.d/isc-dhcp-server start", I get "start: Job failed to start" Anyone knows whats wrong? :/

• Connecting to VPN / proxy with different port number

  I have an IP address, port, username, and password for one of those VPN / proxy services that allows you to use an IP address other than what your ISP gives you, but in the 'Edit Connections VPN' GUI I don't see where to enter a port. I enter the IP address under 'Gateway' and the username and password where it asks for it, but it doesn't work. I try to enter it with the IP address ending with a colon, followed by the port, but that doesn't work either (e.g. "1.1.1.1:9999"). Any idea how I could make it work? I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. But DHCP is still there? $ ps aux | grep dhc root ... dhclient3 -e IF_METRIC=100 -pf /var/run/dhclient.eth0.pid -lf /var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.eth0.leases -1 eth0 Is that normal? If not, how to restart interface in static IP while stop DHCP at the same time? Thanks a lot.
